Channel 4 Idents from Optical Arts on Vimeo.
Optical Arts worked with 4creative and Art Practice to direct and create five new idents for Channel 4, following their new masterbrand launch.
The idents consist of 25 unique looping scenes, designed to reflect what life is like in the UK today – through the eyes of 17 creatives, artists, and filmmakers. Each scene was developed from an open brief which invited each creator to interpret one of five themes: Identity (who we are), The Land (where we live), System (what controls us), Release (how we escape) and Love (all that really matters), with the idents being divided up into 5 sets of 5 films, each with its own distinct style and voice.
Our work is included alongside that of a diverse range of hugely talented directors, creating a unique and ambitious project, portraying a snapshot of Britain today.
Two of our scenes highlight some of the dark realities that technical advancement brings - widespread digital observation, and machine control. Whilst the other two address more human themes - the effect of serotonin on the brain and the experience of a broken heart.
We are thrilled to see our work within these idents as part of this epic and memorable project. Channel 4 have made some of the most iconic idents in TV history, and we are delighted to play a small part in continuing that legacy with this work.
Optical Arts directed and created 4 scenes: Shattering Room, Chemicals, Robotic Fulfilment Centre and Digital Tracking. Dinner Party was directed by Dan Tobin Smith, the studio’s founder.

“Don’t you ever look where you are going,” Jordan grunted. His gaze lowered to the petite blonde girl in his embrace. The one he ran into earlier. The one he couldn’t get out of his thoughts, still feeling the attraction he felt earlier during her dance. Electricity zipping through him mixed with the anger and frustration he felt earlier.
“Don’t you?” she parried as angrily, throwing his hands off her shoulders and taking a step back increasing the distance between them.
“I watched,” he snapped, taking a step forward, looming over her. Ignoring the sharp pain in his hip. Their eyes locked onto each other blazing with fury.
“Funny thing as this is already the second time you run into me. So now if you excuse me I need to go,” snapped Rachel, abruptly turning around.
But as soon as she took a hasty step forward her heel gave way and she felt how the ground started to slip from under her feet until she felt his strong hands on her, grabbing her firmly by her hips and steadying her in place.
Her back pressed to him and she could feel how his chest raised and fell heavily with each breath. The electricity from his touch struck through her and she gasped quietly from the feeling.
Slightly she wiggled away from him, brushing her ass against his crotch. Feeling how his fingers flexed, digging into her hips. His hold on her firm but gentle and she could swear that she heard the barely audible hiss leaving his lips before he turned her to face him.
Their lips just a mere breath away from each other, and their breathing elevated from the increasing desire and attraction flaring up between them.
“For Christ’s sake, what is your problem!” huffed Rachel hoarsely, barely recognising her own voice. Feeling how his body pressed into hers, while his fingers dug into her hips with tiny pressure, making her groan from the feeling, involuntarily arching closer to him.
They both stared into each other's eyes. Their lips parted, breathing heavily, feeling how the electricity crackled between them. Their eyes dropped to each other’s lips simultaneously, and before they could realise what is happening they moved toward each other. Their lips crashing in a passionate hungry kiss intensified by the anger that was still sizzling in them before their minds switched off, giving way to lust. Their kisses grew hungrier and more desperate, fuelled by the fury that they felt only a moment ago. Their lips meeting in a bruising kiss. Their hands exploring each other's bodies, not able to break contact.
“Yours or mine place,” Rachel asked between kisses. Her voice - just a little bit shaky, when the question she didn’t plan to ask dropped from her lips embarrassingly breathless.
She could feel how his body went rigid under her touch. His lips froze just a fraction away from hers not really touching anymore. Immediately missing the heat of his lips on hers. And even though she wanted to feel relieved, she felt nothing but disappointed.
She tried to order herself to move... to pull away from him, but apparently her brains had other plans, even though she didn’t want to acknowledge that. At least not so openly, and not with her body betraying her so shamelessly. Not wanting to admit, that the moment their eyes met across the dance floor her body awakened the way she didn't realise was possible. Making her want him the way she never wanted anyone before. Feeling the sparks of electricity coursing through her. Thinking that they both felt it, but apparently it was only her.
She was only a second away from stepping back, but before she could do that he kissed her again. And it felt as if all the world around her froze the second their lips touched. Feeling the desire zipping through her from the way his body pushed against hers pressing her into the wall. Feeling his arousal against her abdomen. Instantly silencing all the thoughts she had just a moment ago.
She hooked her leg around his hip, the heel of her shoe digging firmer into the flesh of his jeans clad ass, bringing him even closer to her. His firm thigh slipped in between her legs pressing against her core with the perfect amount of pressure. Making her gasp softly, when he slowly rolled it against her.
His hand traveled up under her dress, caressing her soft skin. His fingers flitted across her thigh and toward her soaking center, raising a rush of goosebumps in their wake. She groaned when his thumb grazed the dampened material, dragging it over her panties toward her clit and pressing it firmly against it.
The question took him by surprise, but he tried not to show it. Her body moved over his thigh pressing firmer against it, while the most delicious sounds he ever heard were leaving her lips. The mix of the breathless gasps and soft moans made his cock throb with desire, and the way her body moved made him groan in return. His fingers flexed on her hip and his thumb worked over her clit with strong but careful strokes, holding her just on the edge of the climax, but not letting her go yet.
He swallowed hard, feeling how his control slipped away from him, grabbing harder to it in an attempt to catch the last bits of self-restraint before taking a minute to assess the situation.
He never was the one to rush into something without calculating the risks. Always was the one to think through the consequences of his actions, making sure that both parties knew exactly what they were going into. Needing to know first if the decision wasn’t spurt by her anger and fueled by the alcohol she consumed. Needing to know first that she could think clearly before he would give her reply. So instead of answering he deepened the kiss, making her shudder with the single sweep of his thumb over her sensitive clit, swallowing her scream.
He could feel the mix of tequila and lime on her lips. The taste was strong enough to know that she had her fair share of shots during the evening. But the way she spoke without slurping, kissed him surely, showed that her mind was clear enough for the decision to be made without it to be blinded by alcohol she consumed. Good enough for him to give her his reply and continue that somewhere more private after she would stop shuddering in his arms.
“Yours,” he groaned after a moment. Feeling how much wetter she became. Feeling how much harder she made him. “I have a roommate,” he mumbled, cutting out everything that she was about to say with the kiss.
The mix of alcohol, lust, and frustration heightened their need for each other and they stumbled toward the exit, catching a taxi. He couldn’t make the address she gave to the driver, not even caring how far this place was from his. The only thing he cared at that moment was to get in bed with this girl and fuck her senseless. For once in a long time not caring about the reasons behind that. For once just wishing to forget about everything. Forget his mother and the pain she caused to both her children. Forget about what he did and saw during the war. Forget at least for the night how many of his friends lost their lives during this ill-fated night in the desert. For once not even caring about the reasons why this girl in his arms was willing to jump into the bed with a complete stranger. For once not even questioning her motives. Just wanting her.. needing her. Complete stranger he will never see again after this night.
It took them twenty-five minutes of the ride to get to Rachel’s place. All the way, they were on each other. Kissing, caressing, touching.
Doing things, they would never do sober, with the person they just met. When they got to her place, he pulled her out of the car effortlessly before paying the cab without waiting for a change. His hands sliding under her thighs, lifting her up so her legs would wrap around his waist. Without even looking around they stumbled toward the house kissing hungrily. He pinned her against the front door. His kisses grew impatient when she struggled to open the front door. His teeth grazed the sensitive spot at the juncture of her neck. Sunking them with the slightest amount of pressure into her soft skin, eliciting a hoarse moan from her lips, before the door finally gave way, letting them in.
When inside he turned them around pressing her firmly to the opposite wall. His mouth moved along her neck. Kissing, biting, sucking on her sensitive skin. The air between them grew heavier by the minute, crackling with tension and passion they felt. Each lick and suck of his lips, each bite on her skin made her moan louder and more desperate, and he silenced them with his lips, crushing them on hers.
Her legs tightened around his waist even more, bringing him closer to her, grinding against his throbbing jeans-encased erection. He groaned, stumbling toward the stairs, breaking their kiss just for a second. Their eyes meeting, filled with something more than raw anger and lust they felt before. When he started to speak his voice was husky and breathless, and his eyes burning deep into hers with an intensity she never knew existed.
“Where?” the only word he mastered to say, his hands rested under her butt, already halfway up the stairs, taking two steps at a time. Their lips moving in unison, stumbling through the door into the room she pointed, shutting the door behind them firmly with a loud thud.
As soon as the door got shut behind them, Jordan turned them around, pinning Rachel against the door. Her legs were still wrapped around him, locking tightly behind his back, and her hands tangled in his hair. Their lips moved frantically against each other's. Their tongues danced together, and their moans broke the quietness of the house.
She tasted like tequila and lime with notes of salt following them. His tongue traced hers, sucking on it gently. Mixing her taste with his, sharing the taste of all the drinks he downed this evening.
His hands ran along her long legs toward her soaked center, feeling how turned on she was for him already, as turned on as he was for her. Their anger turned into a primal need, the need they never knew existed. The need that only they could satisfy for each other.
Feverishly his fingers found the waistband of her panties, ripping the flimsy material off her with a sharp firm tug. Her hands reached for the hem of his shirt, lifting it over his head and throwing it aside. Her fingers ran along his muscles, feeling them ripple under her light touch, making Jordan inhale sharply. His hands roamed over her body without missing an inch of her heated skin before gripping her sides roughly.
His hands roamed over her body without missing a single inch of her heated skin he could reach before gripping her sides roughly and grounding her against him. Her head fell back with a guttural moan, feeling his rigid member through the material of his jeans. His lips finding hers, catching them in a sloppy searing kiss.
The intoxicating scent of her arousal and the sound of her breathless moans made his head spin, and his hands found their way under her thighs, gripping them tightly. Without another moment of hesitation, he turned around, carrying her to the bed and dropping Rachel on it. She could hear how the husky curse left his lips, while his eyes darkened even more, standing at the foot of the bed, and watching her bounce on the mattress until she stopped. Tantalisingly slowly she lifts on her elbows, taking off her dress, and tossing it aside.
Her legs opened wide, not letting go of his gaze, not missing a flicker of lust and desire shooting through his eyes. His gaze turned black as night, running along her body toward her glistening core. His hands reached for his belt unbuckling it, yanking his jeans and briefs off. Rachel’s eyes widened when her eyes landed on an impressive member that was finally freed from the constraints of his clothes. It wasn’t just big... It was huge and thick with the long pulsating vein running up the side of his shaft. And she couldn’t help it but lick her lips, feeling how her breath hitched with the unexpected desire to wrap her lips around him.
Not letting her recover from the view, he pounced on her, pinning her against the soft mattress with his body. His erection firmly pressed into her, his lips finding hers, catching them in a fiery kiss. He groaned, feeling how she arched toward him, her slick core gliding against his throbbing member. After a moment, he broke a kiss as abruptly as he started it, kneeling between her legs. His hands spread them wider to accommodate his body between them, reaching for her centre and thrusting his fingers deep inside her warmth, coating them in her juices. He could feel how soaking wet she was already, and he made a guttural sound not able to wait even a moment longer.
Grabbing his cock in his hand, he spread her slick nectar over it, aligning himself with her slit. He groaned, pressing firmer into her before thrusting all the way in till the hilt. Jordan’s eyes shut up instinctively from a sensation of her tightness around him, and he clasped her hips in an ironclad grip. His body started to move faster, thrusting in and out of her pussy, his teeth digging into his lower lip, and his jaw tense, trying to suppress a groan and not to lose control.
He thrusted in faster and faster, getting as deep as he could. Rachel’s moans and his groans filled the room, and in a moment he could feel how her body started to tremble in his arms. Letting go of her hips, he braced himself above her, holding his weight on his outstretched arms. Their lips meeting again and again in a fiery kiss, while he continued to pound her faster and deeper. Her legs locked behind his back pulling him closer, deeper. Her hips lifting up to meet him, and the change of angle, that’s all that was needed for them both to fall apart. Her body shuddered under his and her throbbing pussy clenched tightly around his length, while his hot seed shot deep inside her, milking him till the last drop.
After a moment, Jordan rolled to the side, both panting heavily. Their chests heaving. Their eyes raised to the ceiling above them, feeling exhausted and satisfied. Feeling how alcohol finally started to take over, drifting them both to sleep.
Tumblr media
Rachel woke up later than usual, her head throbbed with a headache, and she could barely remember the events of yesterday or why she drank a little too much.
She groaned, stretching her body, instantly freezing when an unfamiliar weight on her hip caught her attention. Frowning, she hesitantly turned her head to see what this could be. Her eyes widened when they landed on the guy she bumped into yesterday, who lay now next to her completely naked with his leg thrown over her hip and his hardening erection against her butt. The loud scream left her throat, and she pulled the blanket with all her might, making a startled man next to her fall to the floor.
“What the hell,” groaned Jordan, getting up from the floor, feeling how his head was throbbing after yesterday. He rubbed the back of his neck, at a loss looking around the room, his eyes landing at yesterday’s stranger in front of him sitting on the bed and glaring at him.
Her body wrapped in a blanket and her hand rested above her bosom. His eyes widened and he blushed slightly at a sight in front of him, and from the fact that he was completely naked. Frantically, he began to look for something to cover himself up, grabbing the first thing that came into his hands. His hand wrapped around a plush teddy bear from the nightstand table, covering his member. His throat tightening not able to form a word.
“Who the hell are you? And what are you doing in my bedroom? How did you get in here,” cried out Rachel, throwing daggers at him, with her gaze. Having some vague idea of what may have happened yesterday from the way her body still hummed in satisfaction, and the wetness between her thighs.
“Even though I don’t remember much, but it doesn’t take a genius to assume that we had sex...,” frowned he, nodding at their clothes that were scattered around the floor, trying not to let the blush cover his cheeks as if he would be some inexperienced boy. “Can you…. hmmmmm…. Can you not look at me? I mean until I get dressed,” asked Jordan, nodding to his half erect cock. Noticing, with the spark of satisfaction, how her eyes widened, landing on his massive member barely covered up with her plush toy. Trying to suppress the smirk, when the blush dusted her cheeks.
“Really? Now you are shy? Don’t you think that this is a bit too late,” asked he rolling his eyes.
“Shut up,” she grumbled half heartedly. But before he was able to reply she raised her gaze to his. Her eyes widened and the blush disappeared from her cheeks instantly, making her look paler than the moment before. “Shit,” she whispered. “Wait did we… Did we use protection?” asked Rachel cautiously, panic gathering inside her and she bit at her bottom lip nervously, feeling a liquid pulling between her legs.
“I don’t remember,” grunted Jordan, lifting his boxers and jeans from the floor and starting to dress. “But I’m sure I did… And if not I can assure you I’m clean and you are on the pill. Aren’t you?” he asked cautiously, watching her, while she shook her head, turning paler than the moment before. Her eyes widening even more, while she rushed toward the en-suit bathroom with the blanket wrapped around her.
Few minutes later, when Jordan pulled on his t-shirt and was zipping up his jeans, she walked back into the room, her face almost white as a sheet.
“Well, this answers the question,” she mumbled quietly, looking at him, “you didn’t, in fact, use protection.”
“Shit,” swore Jordan, watching her with concern. “If… if this may be a problem,” he asked, feeling the blood drain from his face, and he sat back on the bed, raking his hand through his thick dark hair. His ocean blue eyes met her forest green.
“I don’t think so. This shouldn’t be a problem as days aren’t right. So we should be okay,” replied she, getting out from the drawer a pair of shorts and a shirt and sitting next to him to get dressed.
“Thank God,” said Jordan, breathing a sigh of relief. “Then I probably should be going. I just moved in, and I haven't even met my new housemate yet. And I don’t want him to think I have no manners.”
“Ohhhhh, yes… I doubt that his first thought when meeting you will be the lack of manners,” mumbled Rachel under her breath, rolling her eyes, while he was heading toward the door. She followed behind, catching up with him next to the door. “Yes, you probably need to go… Also, let’s hope that my housemate didn't hear what we have done yesterday or stayed somewhere else,” said she, letting him out of her room.
“Do you have a housemate?” he asked, his eyes widened. “You didn’t say it…”
“Didn’t I?”
“I don’t recall it, and as I have an eidetic memory, so either no, or…”
“Or you were so drunk that you simply don’t recall this. You know, considering how you fucked me last night, and even not remembering doing that or the fact that you should use protection I doubt you would even remember a word I was saying to you,” hissed Rachel, marching downstairs to shove him out the door.
Her anger and frustration at this irritating rich boy, returning. He followed after, feeling how his blood started to boil from her accusations but stopped dead as soon as his eyes landed on the familiar blazer, hanging near the door.
“How… How did this get in here? I don’t… I don’t recall wearing it to the club… I would never,” he breathed, a cold shiver running through his spine.
“Maybe it is my housemate’s blazer but like yours?” she asked, already holding the door wide open.
“No…,” he groaned, his face turning pale. Abruptly he turned back, taking off toward the living room, ignoring Rachel’s protests. She growled irritatingly, following after him, trying to keep up. She barely managed to stop in time, preventing a collision after he abruptly stopped. Both standing in front of the fireplace, where a photo of two was standing on a shelf, their eyes widened, and they both gasped.
“I thought we went to your place last night,” husked Jordan, his eyes still fixed on a picture of him and a young woman standing right in front of them.
“We did,” confirmed Rachel, looking perplexed at the photo she didn't recall seeing in front of them.
“Then how, can you explain that my and my sister’s picture is in your living room,” demanded he, still refusing to believe in the most obvious and logical explanation.
His eyes roaming around the room. His face paled even more when his eyes catched the sight of another picture next to this. The young man of Jordan's age in a Marine’s uniform was hugging a younger girl with blonde hair and forest green eyes. Both smiling happily. Slowly he turned to Rachel, meeting her eyes with a mix of horror and faint recognition.
"How... How do you know him?" he asked hoarsely.
"This is my brother, Brandon," replied Rachel furrowed her brows and looking at him questioningly.
“No… this is…. This is not happening. This cannot be happening,” he whispered under his breath. Feeling as if he would be punched straight in the middle of his chest, while the single thought flew through his mind.
I slept with my housemate… I slept with my best friend’s little sister.

The Help - Movie
Tumblr media
The Help takes place in Jackson, Mississippi the year of 1963. This period of time was during the Jim Crow laws and racial segregation and discrimination in the southern United States. Even though the Civil War abolished slavery, blacks were still being discriminated against. The Jim Crow law, that Aibileen Clark was deathly afraid of, demanded racial segregation in all public places, such as public schools, public transportation - buses and trains, separate entrances to public facilities such as movie theaters and restaurants, separate drinking fountains and restrooms for whites and for blacks, and to go so far as prohibiting blacks from living in some towns, some black people couldn't vote because they couldn't pass a voter literacy test, and interracial marriage was illegal. The Jim Crow Laws were finally overruled by the Civil Rights Act in 1964 that was initiated by President John F. Kennedy before he was assassinated.
Upon returning from Ole Miss College, Skeeter Phelan (a white socialite woman) desired to be a famous write someday. Skeeter's publisher (Miss Stein) told her to write about what disturbs her. Skeeter became very uncomfortable with the racist attitudes and the disrespectful ways her wealthy socialite friends (Elizabeth Leefolt, Hilly Holbrook, Jolene French) acted towards their maids. It was those uncomfortable feelings that guided Skeeter to write a book depicting the view from the help - the maids. Skeeter's conversation with Miss Stein: "These colored women raise white children, and then in twenty years those children become the boss. We love them, and they love us, but they can't even use the toilets in our houses. Don't you find that ironic, Miss Stein?"
The main character in the movie, Aibileen Clark, is a black maid that takes care of Mae Mobley - Elizabeth Leefolt's daughter. Aibileen takes pride in her work as she states, "Taking care a white babies, that’s what I do, along with all the cooking and the cleaning. I done raised seventeen kids in my lifetime. I know how to get them babies to sleep, stop crying, and go in the toilet bowl before they mamas even get out a bed in the morning."Mae Mobley loved Aibileen. In one scene Mae Mobley caresses Aibileen's cheek and says, "You're my real mama, Aibee."
Minny Jackson is Aibileen's best friend and is notably "the best cook in Jackson, Mississippi." Minny is the maid of Mrs. Walters - mother of Hilly Holbrook. Because of Minny's temper, her brash tongue, and her attempt to use the Holbrook family bathroom, Hilly fired Minny.
Hilly was adamant that black people shouldn't use white people's bathrooms, "Tell Raleigh every penny he spends on a colored's bathroom, he'll get back in spades when y'all sell. It's just plain dangerous. They carry different diseases than we do." (Bathroom Segregation video https://youtu.be/E-g9PX-cAWs). Hilly sent her, "Home Help Sanitation Initiative," to the governor to sign - it would ban all black servants from using their white employer’s bathroom.  All the maids in Jackson feared Hilly because she could destroy a maid if she had a grudge against them - which she unfairly did to Minny.
Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter take on the task of revealing the truth (both good and bad) about the way southern white women and families treated their black maids and service people.
Skeeter first interviewed Aibileen, then Minny decided to help. Soon other maids came forward to share their stories of how they spent their entire lives taking care of southern families and the treatment they received from them. Skeeter also shared her story of being raised by a black maid, Constantine Jefferson, that worked for the family for 29 years. Skeeter loved Constantine like a mother and reveals how her mother broke Constantine's heart when she fired her. The maids believed that telling their stories to be published in a book, they were doing their part to end the inhumane treatment of the black people and it was their way to help with the Civil Rights Movement. The book was to be published anonymously, however, the women became fearful that their stories would be recognized in their small community and retaliation would ensue. Aibileen reveals that she was more afraid of authoring the book, than she was afraid of the "Jim Crow" laws. Minny reveals her "terrible awful" secret that she thinks will be insurance that could keep their stories a secret - her secret chocolate pie ingredients.

During the Reconstructionperiod, blacks began to take leadership roles and were pushing hard for legislative changes for equality. Trying to disregard the progress of the blacks and to keep blacks and whites separated, the "Jim Crow" laws were established. Skeeter obtained a copy of "The Mississippi Code of Conduct for Non-Whites" and began to read the laws that were being enforced on black people. Here are a few examples of the laws: Books were not to be used between the white and colored schools, they could only be used by the race first using them. Black barbers could not serve white women or girls. Anyone who printed, published or circulated materials about social equality between whites and negroes is subject to imprisonment. Interracial marriage was illegal. Most blacks couldn't vote because they were unable to pass a voter literacy tests. Blacks couldn't use the same public facilities as whites, nor live in many white towns, or got to the same schools as whites. During the Reconstruction period the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was established to impose violence on both black and white leaders because they were wanting to reverse the laws and progress of the Reconstruction advancements. To further undermine the progress made, the US Supreme Court stated in the Plessy v. Ferguson case that facilities for blacks and whites could be "separate but equal." Years later, in the "Brown v. Board of Education"case the US Supreme Court made segregation illegal in the public schools. The Civil Rights Act of 1957, signed by President Eisenhower, declared that anyone trying to prevent someone from voting could be punished with federal prosecution. In 1963 the March on Washingtonwas a civil rights movement organized by Civil Rights leaders of Martin Luther King, A. Philip Randolph, and Bayard Rustin. It was a peaceful march of over 200,000 people to bring attention and to force civil rights legislation and job equality for everyone. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech became the slogan for equality and freedom. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, signed by President John F. Kennedy, proclaimed equal employment for all and federal authorities could be used to make sure all public facilities were integrated. The Voting Rights Act of 1965banned the use of all voter literacy tests. 1968 the Fair Housing Act became a law that prevented housing discrimination based on race, national origin, religion and sex. Civil Rights Leaders and activists, Martin Luther King, Medgar Evers, Malcom X, and President John F. Kennedy all fought hard for the Civil Rights movement. However, during that time, they were assassinated.
The book was published and was a huge success - except Ms. Hilly didn't like it. Ms. Hilly read the book and immediately knew Chapter 12 of the book was about her. She threatened Skeeter with a law suit but got no satisfaction from that threat. Aibileen got retaliation as Ms. Hilly pressured Ms. Elizabeth to fire her. The most touching part of the movie: https://youtu.be/FuyAt68pj3I

How do children learn about race, biases, and prejudice? Racism is how people interpret, adopt, and repeat inequality. Are we born with preconceived concepts of racism? Babies are born capable of learning things without being taught - how to suck for nourishment, how to make sounds to communicate, how to crawl, and they learn to talk by listening to others. As children grow they learn to sort things by colors and shapes. At an early age they begin to sort their world and form their own ideas. Children use this cognitive development to sort people too. However, they are not forming racism, they are observing and categorizing. Erin N. Winkler from the Africology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has studied the topic of "how children form their ideas about race during early stages of development" (https://www.wiscontext.org/how-kids-learn-about-race-stereotypes-and-prejudice).
"As curious young minds begin to figure out shapes and colors, they're also seeing visible differences among people and determining their own identities - including racial awareness.  Of course, this development doesn't mean that children are inherently bigoted - rather, their thinking about race stems from normal processes of observing and categorizing." (Winkler, 2009)
Studies have been conducted as far back as the 1940s-1950s when Mamie and Kenneth Clark did their "Doll Study." The study gave African-American children a choice between a black doll and a white doll. (The Life and Challenges of Mamie and Kenneth Clark: https://youtu.be/kG90mSaWUpE). The majority of the children preferred the white doll and gave more positive qualities to the white doll.

There was a racism experiment conducted in a classroom by a 3rd grade teacher, Jane Elliott from Riceville, Iowa. Her experiment was carried out after the assassination of Martin Luther King. She wanted her students to internalize and begin to understand what racism and discrimination felt like. Brown Eyes and Blue Eyes Racism Experiment: https://youtu.be/KHxFuO2Nk-0. In Jane Elliot's experiment she began by dividing her students into two groups of eye colors - The Brown-eyed group and The Blue-eyed group. She told the children that the children with brown eyes were "superior and smarter" and gave them extra privileges and praise. She then told the children with blue eyes they were "inferior, unruly, and untrustworthy," and treated them like second class citizens. The next day roles were reversed. Jane Elliott was shocked at what she seen. “I watched what had been marvelous, cooperative, wonderful, thoughtful children turn into nasty, vicious, discriminating little third-graders, in the space of 15 minutes.” Jane Elliot explained to the children that what they learned over the last two days was "a filthy, nasty word called discrimination," which means "treating people a certain way because they are different." Through her experiment, she was able to teach the children what it felt like to be victims of prejudice.
At the University of Yale's Baby Lab that supports the research of Erin N. Winkler. Are babies born with a type of bias? is produced by CNN's Anderson Cooper as he visits the University of Yale's Baby Lab where researchers study the minds of infants - https://youtu.be/3EoNYklyShs.
Two more studies were conducted from the University of Yale's Child Study Center where they investigate human development to understand the mental health of children. In 2010, AC360°team reinvestigated the original "Doll Study" to determine what are children's current racial beliefs, attitudes, preferences, and skin tone preferences at two different developmental stages. This is the outcome of that study: of Inside the AC360 Doll Study: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYCz1ppTjiM. To further this Doll Study, parents were interviewed as to what their responses were about their children's answers in that study, I Was Upset of How My Child Views Race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm_CfET1Ffg.
My understandings from the three videos and research is that racism or racial bias is a significant problem. If we don't believe it is a problem, then why are so many black children choosing the white dolls over their own skin toned black dolls?

Kids on Race: The Hidden Picture did another study: A Look at Race Relations through a Child's Eyes. This study interviewed 145 Kids at 6 schools across 3 states. The children were majority white, majority African American, and racially diverse. Children were shown two pictures with one white and one black child, both near a swing. The study reveals that 70% of white children interpreted there was something negative happening, as opposed to only 38% of the black children. https://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2012/images/03/29/ac360.race.study.pdf
Skin Color - The Way Kids See It (https://youtu.be/JcAuO0PNnrs) shows that there is hope that change in children's perception or racism is shifting.
Kiri Davis, a young filmmaker, conducted a documentary, A Girl Like Me: (https://youtu.be/z0BxFRu_SOw) that shows there is still a racial gap in our American Culture. In this video she interviews young African-American women and they discuss finding their own identities and being accepted. She also conducted her own "doll test" on 21 black children. 15 out of the 21 children chose the white doll. Why do African-Americans still feel the effects of racism so many years after the Civil Rights Movement?
What needs to happen to  ensure children become more accepting of people of all races and cultures? "Children are aware very young that color, language, gender, and physical ability differences are connected with privilege and power." (Derman-Sparks) Jane Elliott stated: "Racism was something that people learned" - something adults need to stop displaying and teaching. Adults need to educate themselves, so they can be knowledgeable and accurate when talking to children about racial discrimination. We need to be aware of our own actions as children learn about their world and the people around them from their observations. We need to talk about what acceptance of all race and cultures should look like and feel like. We need to discuss openly, age appropriate conversations, about racial differences and treat people as equals, worthy, and have potential. Children should not be brought up as "colorblind" and not understanding what racism is. We need to empower children to be racially conscious and teach them how to combat inequality and discrimination. They need to learn how to celebrate diversity and to recognize their own identities. Children should be taught what it is like to live in an unequal society.  Children should not learn about negative stereotypes, biases, or racism from social media, movies, or inappropriate role models. As we teach children, adults need to empower them in building a positive self-identity that can "develop critical thinking and the skills for standing up for oneself and others in the face of injustice." (Derman-Sparkes) Children need to learn about racism from a trusting adult that will teach them not to discriminate and to treat everyone equally - we are all the same, just a little different.
# I wonder how fast information could have spread and how many people would have been reached if digital activismwas available during the Civil Rights Movement #

Jordan Williams never was the one who scared easily, or backed out of his decision for that matter.
Former Marine, even though his parents didn’t support him or approve of it... the one of the few survivors of his platoon… The hero, who single handedly carried his friends out from the burning hell on Earth not knowing if they were dead or alive. Who by some miracle survived, but was left with the nightmares to remind him of how lucky or cursed he was, and with the ugly scars to never let him forget of the ones who weren’t as fortunate. Limping on his right leg, but at least breathing and moving.
And today even though he still wasn’t scared, he was nervous. This was the last Friday before he was starting his new life. No more deployments. No more deaths, at least not on his watch. And as many lives as he could save after he would learn how to do that. After he would become one of the best surgeons and open the clinic for the people like him, who would survive beating all odds. For Doctors without the borders who wouldn't be scared to help people in the burning hells... who will be ready and willing to help as many dying to survive, be it soldiers or civilians, something that he failed to do then. But damn him, if he wouldn't do it now, after he would learn how to do that.
And he was determined to learn how… nothing and no-one would stop him, that is what he swore to himself that day. That is what kept him going no matter how difficult it was.
Trying to block the nerves raking through him he gripped the steering wheel firmer trying not to think of the only thing that overshadowed his new beginning. Of the fact that the place that he found for the living, was already occupied, which meant that he would have a housemate, something that he was determined never to have. The main reason why no matter how hard his best friend tried to convince him to rent a house together, he did not succumb to his persuasion. Preferring solitude instead to the company. Not wanting anyone to see him at his lowest or to hear his screams during the nights, while he would wake up sweating from yet another nightmare night after night. And as a result of that he got himself in a situation in which he was now, fated to share the house with the person he even never met.
He huffed, driving toward the lonely standing house, someone’s car was already parked there. He looked around, leaving his car in a free space. Getting out of his SUV, Jordan went toward the house.
Getting inside, he noticed still packed boxes in the hall, but he couldn't hear or see anyone else, which meant that his housemate left without unpacking.
Typicall. He thought, walking further into the house, entering a living room he would be forced to share with someone else. He looked around the neat and cozy room, two armchairs were standing opposite the fireplace, the massive bookcase was located along one of the walls.
He was about to go and check the kitchen when he heard his phone calling. Taking it out, he checked the Caller’s ID before answering the call, listening for a familiar voice coming from his mobile.
“Hey, Jody.”
“Morning to you too, Brandon,” replied Jordan, putting his keys into the bowl and moving further into the kitchen.
“I take it, you finally get to your new place? Settled in okay? How is your new housemate? Still not regretting not moving in with me?” questioned Brandon in his carefree manner, as if he wasn’t on the verge of death no more than six month back after he would save Jordan's life, and in return Jordan saved his. His cheerful voice caused a surge of amazement through Jordan while he listened to his friend.
“You know I hate it when you call me that,” Jordan growled frowning after finally the questions stopped in that annoyingly abrupt manner he hated. “And yes, I already got to my new place but had no chance to settle in just yet. Answering your last question, I have no idea who my new housemate is as I can see only unopened boxes there. But I do hope that the person I share this place with is someone who will not interrupt my study or throw constant parties... Although based on the fact that instead of unpacking, this housemate just left… I guess I can say goodbye to that…”
“Yes, yes… Got it,” brushed him off Brandon. “About your studies. Even though I still don't know why you need it in the first place, you always could join the forces, but what I do know, is the fact that you need to unwind before it starts… let loose... have meaningless one-night fun... sometimes I really think you forget how to have fun spending all your free time buried in books,” said Brandon, making Jordan flinch at his choice of words. He could be buried… they both could be... as were most of the guys from their platoon.
Pale, bloodied faces appeared in front of his eyes. His hand is suddenly covered in blood right in front of his eyes… screams deafeningly loud dying on their lips twisted in agony, leaving only few of them alive, and if no one would come soon they would join their comrades, their friends… faster than they could finish the prayer…  not that either of them believed, not after what they have seen or could lose.
“What do you mean?” forced out Jordan, closing his eyes and letting out the slow breath.
“I mean that you wouldn’t recognise fun and beauty even if she bumped into you... And you are coming with me to the party. I need a wingman, and you need to unwind. Hopefully with some cute girl, whose face you will forget the next morning,” chuckled Brandon, making Jordan frown moving his phone a bit further from his ear.
“Never,“ cut Jordan, shaking his head. He was done with partying or with women. Done… "You know I don’t do parties… not anymore.”
“Yes, but you also know I will not give up until you say yes. So let’s make it easier on both of us. Should we?,” laughed Brandon.
“I need to unpack my stuff, and it may take the whole day. Also, I need to go to the library to pick up some books for my studies as tomorrow the library will be closed. So this time you will need to manage this on your own.”
“If these are the only reasons then I don’t see any reason why not.”
“I told you, I will not have…,” Jordan tried to say.
“Nope, still cannot see why you wouldn’t have time for some fun. I will be at your place in twenty minutes and will help you unpack, and then we will pick up your books before crashing this party.”
“You will not give up… aren’t you?”
“Man, you should know by now that never.”
“Fine…” sighed Jordan exasperatedly, looking at his watch. “Be here in twenty minutes, but I will leave the party before 10 pm. Understood?”
“See you in twenty minutes,” replied Brandon, ending the call.
Almost an hour later Jordan finally heard a knock on the door. Grudgingly, he opened it, letting his best friend inside the house.
“You are late,” stated he, holding one of the boxes in his hands. The pain shot through his body, but he didn’t even flinch, still staring at his friend.
“Sorry, I met my new neighbours. Movers bailed on her and her little boy, so I helped her to carry boxes inside,” shrugged Brandon nonchalantly passing by Jordan feeling not even the slightest bit sorry for his delay.
Another hour later and unloading the last boxes that Jordan brought with him, they finally started to unpack them. And in another three hours, they were finally done.
All the stuff that Jordan took with him were put neatly to their places. The bookshelf in the living room stocked with books he brought, and a picture of him and his older sister was put above the fireplace. They both looked in satisfaction around the room putting the empty boxes into the storage place. Brandon patted Jordan on the back before going toward the door.
“So now, when we finally finished unpacking,” started his friend. His eyes widening, when he noticed how Jordan with displeasure looked on his new housemate’s still packed boxes.
Quickly his friend marched back to him grabbing his hand and pulling him toward the door, letting him only grab his keys on the way out. “Don’t you even dare to think about that. You are NOT touching your roomies’ stuff. Now…. let’s go to this place, where you need to be quiet and bore yourself to death or we will be late to the party.”
That word again… thought Jordan. The word that made him flinch every time, remembering the day of his friends’ deaths. Still blaming himself that he couldn’t have saved them all, didn't see approaching danger earlier and when he did it was already too late to warn guys as all hell broke loose just a second after he sensed the danger.
“Can you stop calling it that? And the library can be fun when you know what you are looking for,” he snapped, hoping his friend missed his reaction before they both exited the house, shutting the door behind.
It was already three o’clock when they rushed toward the library, trying to get on time before it was closed. After another ten minutes of arguing that Brandon should wait for him in the car instead of constantly complaining about the place or flirting with every single girl they would meet, Jordan ran up the stairs taking two steps at the time before disappearing behind the heavy doors. When he was about to round the corner, he felt someone bumping straight into him. The heavy books the person was carrying fell to the ground hitting his foot painfully. Making him swear under his breath, looking at the person in front of him with the frown.
“Haven’t you ever been taught that you need to look where you are going?” huffed Jordan in annoyance, crouching in front of the girl with the blonde hair and helping her to collect scattered books. “Next time, watch where you are going,” said he with a scowl on his face, shoving the books into her arms before looking at her for the first time.
The girl looked at him with the wide open forest green eyes that looked somehow familiar, no matter how silly it may sound. He quickly raked his gaze over her, taking in every detail of her petite form, before hastily returning it back to her eyes. The tongue darted out running over her lips, making his gaze drop to them darkening just for a split second, while following the movement. Her rosy lips parted as if forming a reply, but he quickly shook himself out of his state and before she could utter even a word he raised to his feet and strolled into the library, leaving a startled stranger behind.
“What a jerk,” she mumbled, standing up with the help of her friends and adjusting her skirt.
“But he is a handsome jerk,” whistled an athletic-looking guy, watching after Jordan, throwing a hand over the blonde girl’s shoulder. “Isn’t he, Heath?”
“Ohhhh, yes. He is yummy, and that ass in low cut jeans,” moaned Heather turning to face her friend. “And did you see his lips? Rae-Rae, if I would bump into him… he wouldn’t leave… so easily,” said she with a wink.
“You two are just ridiculous... I hate you,” groaned Rachel, covering her face with books she was now holding in front of her. Her cheeks flamed. “Can you think of anything, but sex?”
Heather and Derek, the guy, who threw a hand over her shoulder, shared an incredulous look, before shaking their heads and answering in unison.
“Nope… never… And you love us, girl.”
“Don’t you have a boyfriend?” frowned Rachel, raising her head to look at her friend.
“Yes, I do. And this is why I don’t try to get the boy myself. Also, because he is straight,” shrugged off Derek, with a wide smile.
“And how exactly do you know that?” questioned Rachel rolling her eyes.
“Did you see the way he looked at you?” asked Derek, sharing another look with Heather, the plan already building in their heads.
“Okay, you two… drop it. I know this look, and you will not try to hook me up with him. He looked at me the same way as any other rich boy in town would look at me. He is a jerk and a snob. And I’m not interested. Besides you know I have a lot on my plate right now. So stop even thinking about this. Be thankful I even agreed to go to that party with you, because if my brother finds out I lied to him... He will kill you first for dragging me there and then lock me up until graduation... or death in solitude,” she mumbled quickly before taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. “And Derek, don’t you dare to forget that you promised me to do our dance. We need to practice.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll remember. I’m always up to show my new moves,” he said, wiggling his brows.
“Okay, then let’s go. You know I need to change first and unpack my boxes before my housemate will arrive, which you also promised to do with me,” reminded Rachel, and they went to her house, laughing on their way there.
By the time the clock struck seven, Jordan went into a club hosting a party, scowling at the number of people there. His posture was stiff and on alert while he looked around. Ready to jump into an action at any time.
“Brandon, tell me again, why exactly did I agree to go with you?” said he in a loud voice, while trying to get through the crowd and not to lose his friend from the view, who already scanned the crowd for the distraction for the night.
“To have fun, plus I needed a wingman... Actually... scratch out the last one, I see a target at the bar, bored, single, challenging, redhead. Wingman not required,” Brandon said with a wink, when they finally got inside, instantly starting to move into the direction of the petite girl who captured his attention leaving Jordan behind.
He followed his friend with a glance before looking around the floor. His attention immediately drew to a dancing couple in the middle of the dance floor. Both moving as a whole to the sounds of Latin Music. The sensual dance attracted the drunken crowd closer to them, creating a commotion on the dance floor from enthusiastic screams and whistles. His brows furrowed instantly when he recognised the same pretty blonde girl he met earlier today. Her hair laid in soft waves. And he felt how his gaze unintentionally riveted to her, watching her every move, unable to tear his gaze away.
He watched how the guy led her into a low dip. His hand shifted to the small of her back when another traveled along her neck caressing her body as if they were in the confidentiality of the bedroom. His hand slowly reached for her knee making her stretch out her leg. A beautiful red dress flowed around her body, dancing around her petite frame like flames. At some point during the dance, she looked straight into his eyes, and he felt as if falling under her spell. Her soft forest green eyes were burning with fire, alighting something unexplored inside of him. Something that had died with his friends that day, something that they never will have and something that he will never deserve.
He could feel how his heart sped up beating as never before, and his breath elevated, from the beats of sultry music and the way her body moved in another man’s arms. Waves of golden hair refracted the lights of the club, and she moved, holding his gaze as though burning him alive from the inside. As if under the spell, Jordan moved closer to the dancers not even realising it until a buzzing of his mobile broke him out of his daze.
It seemed that eternity had passed when in reality it was only a splitting second, second that he would be not able to get out of his mind. He could feel the pounding of his heart increasing with impending anger as he looked at the caller’s ID, blinking once... twice at the phone clenched in his hand. Contemplating for a moment to just let it go to the voicemail. Not wanting or ready for another confrontation that was inevitably coming.
Deep down he knew that it wasn’t a solution and no matter how long he would avoid it his mother would find the way to get to him, so before he could think about that more he went outside of the club to take a call, not even sparing another glance to the dance floor... or to the girl who’s eyes looked so familiar.
“Mother,” he said, taking a call. “Sorry, I…,” he started, interrupted by his mother’s voice “No mother, I didn’t… I’m with Brandon… Yes, he is still my friend,” replied Jordan, trying to stay calm, while listening to his mother. His grip on the phone was getting firmer and firmer with every word she said, surprised that it didn't break in half by the time he had a chance to speak again. “Mother, no I still plan to study Medicine and not business,” said he, annoyed by yet another remark from his mother. “MOTHER,” he said, raising his voice and losing control just for a split second, before taking a deep calming breath and closing his eyes. “This is my life, and I have all the right to decide what I want or don’t want to do with it. Look what you've done to Leslie? Isn’t it enough…,” exasperatedly said he, only to be shut up by his mother once again. “Yes, mother,” he gritted through his clenched teeth, feeling how his blood started to boil again, wanting nothing more than to get drunk, and to get away as far as possible from his family as he did while he served in the Marine Corps, until he couldn't do that anymore.
His hand reached for his hip by instinct. The wound was deep enough to make him bleed to death on that ill fated day leaving him dead, but it didn’t happen... Instead it made him limp, but he could manage that. This he could hide from everyone with the prescribed medicine when the pain got to the point of unbearable and with the gritted teeth when he just wanted to limp, not caring if somebody will consider it a weakness. And it took him the hell of a lot of willpower to remember it. To remember that he cannot allow himself to be weak, couldn’t allow to show it. No one knew how bad it was... no one except Brandon, who was there for him after he saved his life. The only person who knew that if the bullet would have hit the inch higher or if the help would get there a little bit later Jordan would bleed to death. The only person to whom he told how bad it is and how much pain it causes him even now.
“No, I will not change my mind,” said he on autopilot before ending the phone call abruptly without listening to what else his mother wanted to say. After a moment, he finally shoved the phone back into the pocket of his dark blue jeans moving back into the club and walking toward the bar.
The music has changed to something slower and sensual, and when he looked on the dance floor his eyes landed on the same tantalisingly beautiful stranger who was in the middle of the argument.
He could see how some man grabbed her hand, but she jerked it from him and stormed toward the exit.
He huffed, downing one drink after another, not paying attention to what he was drinking, his eyes dropping back to the bar in front of him. His thoughts involuntarily returned to the girl, but he pushed them away. Frustrated and angry by the fact that he couldn’t get her out of his head for some inexplicable reason. Hurt and angry by the fact his mother managed to get under his skin once again.
By the time he was done and ready to leave the club, the anger boiling inside him reached the limit. Jordan rose abruptly, almost tripping over his feet, when the pain in his hip shot through his leg, making him curse under his breath, taking a moment to compose himself.
He looked around, searching for Brandon, but couldn’t find him anywhere, so he typed him a quick message letting him know that he was heading back to his place. When he was just about to exit the club, he felt someone bump straight into him. His arms instinctively wrapped around the person’s shoulders, preventing them both from the fall.

“How do you know him?” asked Rachel in a quiet barely audible voice, looking at Jordan with wide eyes, reminding him of the deer caught in the highlights of the approaching car.
He suspected she already knew the answer to this question, knowing how close Brandon was with his sister, but he answered the question anyway.
“We served together…,” he replied, swallowing hard.
“Right…,” she mumbled under her breath.
They looked at each other for a long moment, while reality slowly sank on them. The deafening thundering of their hearts was filling the silence between them, and Jordan could feel how the panic started to rise inside him beating the excruciating pain in his hip that he started to feel.
He opened his mouth to say something, anything… but the flight reflex kicked in and without saying a word, he abruptly turned around and rushed toward his room. He walked up the stairs trying to ignore the pain that followed him every step until he finally got into his room and shut the door behind.
His back pressed to the wooden panel, and his head hit it with a thud, making him moan in irritation. His eyes closed and he gritted his teeth, trying to get his pain under control, breathing in and out, while he leaned against the door waiting for the pain to become less. After some time he let out a low growl and limped to bed, falling on it facing the ceiling. He didn’t know how much time had passed, nor what time it was when a buzzing of his phone snatched him back to reality.
He took it out of his pocket, taking a call without looking at the caller’s ID, groaning when a loud voice came through the device. His body tensed instantly, when the recognition hit him, and his muscles flexed. His head throbbed with pain, and he shut his eyes, trying to suppress a shooting pain in his temples.
His voice weak and distant, but he grudgingly reassured Brandon that he is well and alive, barely believing in it himself. Feeling like he cannot not only move but also breath. Pounding in his head only increased, when Brandon invited himself over to meet his housemate, making Jordan sit up straight, grunting in pain.
Shit… Shit… Shit… thought Jordan, no longer listening to Brandon. Trying to come up with something he could say to stop his friend from coming. Not sure for how long he would be able to do that. But before he could say even a word the line went dead, leaving him to the deafening silence, broken only by his thunderous heartbeat.
Great… just perfect. Grunted Jordan, watching the screen of his phone going black, before shoving it back into his pocket. This is why I never had friends before… till joining Marines… before the hell we went through that made us closer. Probably my mother was right and this was just a waste of time. No friends, no pain, and nothing to lose. No people to care about and no deaths to witness… He thought in frustration, closing his eyes.
The memory of his dead friends… Jack… Denise… Steve… Nick… immediately floated to his mind. Followed by the vision of the comrades he cared about but couldn’t save… Anthony… Noah… Henry… Luca… Ava… and finally concluded with the images of bloodied bodies he barely could recognise… Alexander… Jonathan… William… Baby Jack… and many, many more faces he would always remember and would never forget… The guys and girls who would never ever have a chance at just having fun or building a family… or even breathing… So why should he have a chance at anything? And probably losing Brandon, the only best friend who survived, would be the fitting price to pay for him trying to forget… trying to have fun, while so many couldn’t anymore. It was as if fate was punishing him for surviving… for trying to continue to live.
Quickly, he pushed the thought away, feeling how the lump already started to form at the back of his throat. His thoughts instantly moved to his sister before involuntarily going to Rachel thinking of what to say to his friend… what would he feel if anyone from his friends would sleep with his own sister? Using her for just one night because of anger and lust and trying to forget… to forget at least for a little while the weight of the guilt for staying alive and feeling. Would he forget and forgive? Or would he punch the asshole who would do it to her without thinking of protecting her first?
And he knew the answer to that… NEVER… He would NEVER forget and forgive such betrayal.
After an hour, Jordan heard a distant knock at the front door, and the muffled voices reached him after some time.
“Heeeeey….” said Rachel, opening the door. Her voice faltered at the end, and Jordan, even before hearing another voice, knew exactly whom she saw at the porch.
“Rach?“ a surprised voice sounded at the door.
“How… How did you find me? I just was planning to send you my address,” she said trying to sound genuinely surprised, but from the notes in her voice Jordan could say how nervous she felt. Even without seeing her, he could picture how her beautiful forest green eyes widened and her coral lips parted while she took a barely audible shallow breath.
Why the hell do I even know how she looks nervous? Jordan thought, frowning.
“I wasn’t looking for you. I actually was looking for my friend… but… what are you…,” started Brandon.
“If you speak of a handsome, tall stranger with blue eyes and nice body then he is upstairs. And in regards to what I’m doing here… I’m living here. You know it was the only place near the university I could find, so please… please don’t ruin it for me with your unbearable overprotectiveness.”
“I’m not…”
“You are, and I love you, but let’s make it perfectly clear I’m not interested in your friend. So please… please don’t get all big protective brother on me,” her voice a little bit shaky with the memory of their morning, but no less convincing.
“Rae, whatever you think I didn’t even plan on doing that,” laughed Brandon, giving Rachel a hug. “Plus, Jordan would never betray our friendship like that. I know the guy and I trust him. On top of that I saw him yesterday leaving with some super hot blondie so I think we are good.” said Brandon.
I was that blondie… almost blurted out Rachel hating to keep a secret from her brother, but stopping at the last moment.
Meantime upstairs Jordan was listening more closely to the conversation between siblings.
I screwed up… I royally screwed up… thought he, banging his head on the mattress. But I cannot come clean now… not after hearing that she obviously doesn’t want him to know… Shit…
“Ohhhhh, so his name is Jordan?” asked Rachel, laughing at Brandon’s surprised expression.
“Wait a minute…. did he even not introduce himself,” incredulously asked Brandon looking at his sister, watching her shake her head. “God, it’s so typical of him… same as sneaking out to the library while it’s closed. So… you said he is in his room? Alone or does he have company?”
“Yes, your friend is hiding in his room. And regarding the company, how can I know?” mumbled Rachel, feeling how her face started to heat up.
He had some a little bit more than an hour ago… she thought, turning to close the door, to hide the blush from her brother, waving him toward his friend’s room.
“God, I missed you sis,” laughed Brandon, hugging the girl and lifting her effortlessly off the ground, twirling her happily before putting back.
“I missed you too, big brother. After your return, the last time I saw you was in a hospital bed, flirting with some poor unsuspecting nurse and then you moved here, leaving me behind,” sighed Rachel, hugging her brother and kissing him on the cheek. “Now go,” she said, shoving off her brother lightly toward the stairs.
In a moment, Jordan heard a sound of footsteps on the stairs, followed by the knock on the door.
“What do you want?” he snapped, abruptly sitting up on the bed, still embarrassed and angry from the fact how little self-control he showed yesterday. He looked at the door, unconsciously hoping to see Rachel, whose name he knew only from Brandon, but instead his friend stuck his head through the ajar door.
“Brandon, what are you….?” he asked, furrowing his brows. Not expecting to see him, thinking that he will spend a little bit more time with his sister.
“For a smart guy as you, you ask too many stupid questions and too few right ones. Considering, you didn't even ask your new housemate’s name.”
“How did you know I didn't?” asked Jordan, raising his brow sceptically not ready to admit that his friend was right.
“I know you. Aaaaand you didn’t give her yours so following the logical conclusion you didn’t ask hers,” rolled his eyes Brandon, sitting on a bed without invitation. “By the way if you would have a little chat with her, you would know that her name is Rachel. She is my little sister and she also first year Medical student as you are,” he said, falling silent for a momen before starting to speak. “Man, I know I can trust you, but I cannot trust all the other assholes who would creep their way to her and hurt her,” grunted Brandon.
“What do you want me to do?” growled Jordan flopping down on the bed once again, his eyes trained on the ceiling, his thoughts far away.
“What you do best… watch my back… keep an eye on her… get closer to her... make sure that no one else gets too close.”
Great… just what I needed… get close… keep your hands to yourself… protect her… mumbled quietly Jordan.
Distantly, he could hear Brandon continue to speak, but he could barely hear anything. His thoughts wandered to the previous evening trying to remember at least something from what led him to the bed with a complete stranger, furthermore none other than his best friend’s little sister, the one who always will be off limits for him. Still feeling embarrassed about what happened. Still feeling guilty for losing control, and still angry that he couldn’t get her out of his head, no matter how hard he would try.
Absent-mindedly, he took out his phone, scrolling through his calls and notifications, half-listening to Brandon. His eyes caught on one received phone call from his mother, followed by three missed ones straight afterward. And a few voicemails.
Mentally, he noted that he would need to listen to them, in case it was something urgent, and to call his mother, surprised that she still didn’t call him. The distant, but familiar feeling, that the last phone call from her did not go too well, gnawed at him. And he knew that this time she managed to get under his skin. This is why he lost control. This is why he felt frustrated and angry. And this is why whatever happened was on him.
He closed his eyes, straining his memory to restore the events that got erased by the amount of alcohol that he consumed and by the heat of the moment that followed after. He knew that before anything happened he made sure that she wanted this as much as he did. Made sure she knew what was happening and agreed on that knowing what she was doing. But it didn’t make him feel less guilty and didn’t make her less off limits. His thoughts returned back to try and reproduce the events that led them to bed, including their second accidental meeting.
My mother got me again… and I drank… and drank… and drank. I drank so much that I barely could think, blinded by anger and alcohol. And when my body collided with Rachel’s in that dark hallway I felt something else apart from the anger. It was like I was struck by the lightning that zapped through me... I barely can remember what happened after that. But I know that whatever happened I knew what I wanted. And I wanted her as much as she wanted me. Thought Jordan. The flash of him emptying one glass after another, without even registering what exactly he drunk, striking him. As through the daze, he heard Brandon’s voice, snapping him back to reality, and for the first time, since he entered the room, he looked up at his friend.
“So did you score with her? Or tell me that you at least got her number as I told you to do,” grunted Brandon, while Jordan looked at him in confusion.
“What do you mean you told me to get her number?” asked Jordan, furrowing his brows.
“Man, pay attention… I sent you a text, or did you not receive it?”
Quickly, Jordan looked back at his phone, scrolling through his texts, clicking on the new message received yesterday just after 10 pm.
“Just seen you bump into a pretty blonde. She is tiny, but with killer legs and ass to die for. Go for it or at least ask for her phone number. Tell her you are asking for a very single and a very available friend ;)  And if you don’t plan on taking it further than the lip-lock then let me know, I totally will. B.”
Jordan’s eyes widened at the message while he reread it again.
Shit… he is hitting on his own sister… just exactly what I needed. Jordan cursed, frowning at his friend.
The memory of him bumping into Rachel flashed in front of his eyes and he grunted remembering her hands against his chest, so small and so delicate. The golden hair blurred his vision the second prior a pair of beautiful forest green eyes met his in surprise before a flicker of anger and mistrust shot through them.
He could feel how his own anger was fuelled by hers in the same instant joined by a sudden spark of electricity zapping through him. His hands balled into the fists, gripping the phone firmer. The quiet groan of frustration escaped his throat, watching her eyes move closer and closer until all he could see was the forest-green light in front of him, burning with flames of passion fuelled by her anger.
Brandon’s voice faded to nothingness when visions started to explode in front of his eyes, unsure of what was real and what was just a figment of his imagination. Trying to figure out what he could trust, and what could be considered a fantasy, he never thought he had. Not sure why, but trying to reproduce the events of the previous evening.
His heart jumped when a blurred image of a blonde girl flashed before his eyes, and he felt a wave of heat running through him from the vision. Her lips pressed to his, kissing him firmly, hungrily. He couldn’t make out her face or anything about her, just the feeling of her lips and a faint taste that was slipping away every time he tried to remember it. His pants and boxers hung around his ankles, and his back pressed against the cold frame of the front door. Her hand wrapped around the base of his cock, stroking him firmly before sliding to her knees, wrapping her lips around the tip of his dick.
The blurred image disappeared as quickly as it emerged, leaving him breathless.
“I cannot believe she did this. Did she…? Did she really give me a blowjob on a porch…. outside of the house?” he sputtered internally, his eyes flying open and his breathing became uneven. A sheer terror filled him, and his pulse skyrocketed at the thought. “How? How is it even possible I let her do this? Oh my God, did I really let her suck my dick, where everyone could see us? Degrading her like that… God, if Brandon will ever find out he will kill me.” thought he, feeling how the guilt almost swallowed him, bringing him to his knees. Needing to remember more, needing to know what he had done or let her do to him. His fists firmly clenched at his sides, desperately straining his memory further, trying to remember what had happened between them. Hoping that the reality wouldn’t be worse than a blurred vision he just has seen, hoping that this wasn’t real. And finally, after a kaleidoscope of blurred images flashing in front of his eyes, he saw the sequence of the clearest visions he could, feeling the full extent of the desire he ever felt in his life. The desire that was only fuelled by the image of her eyes. Feeling how his length started to harden just from the memories.
There it is… the clear image of him holding a blonde girl with soul-piercing eyes in his arms. Her legs wrapped around his waist, while she tried to open the door. Their kisses grew more heated and desperate, the faint taste of tequila and lime haunting his distant memory. Her sinful coral lips, moving against his, their tongues dancing together.
He could feel how the wind was knocked out of him, leaving him breathless, his eyes wide opened, when the image of her squirming body beneath him emerged in his mind. And he could feel how her soaked tight pussy was pulling him deeper into her warmth with every spasm of her body, making him gasp for air. The clear memory of the strongest orgasm he ever had, hit him hard, making his heart skip a beat. Making him almost cum instantly in his jeans without even a single touch.
I’m screwed… I’m so screwed. Thought Jordan, sitting straight on his bed, his eyes wide, as the weight of reality hit him hard. Oblivious to his friend’s distress, Brandon still continued to speak. Talking about how wonderful it would be for them to hang out at Jordan’s place more often, letting him see more of his baby sister.
Jordan swallowed thickly, thinking of how possibly he could allow this to happen. How he possibly could sleep with the girl who is his best friend’s baby sister and who always will be off limits. The one who always will be too good for him or anyone else.
The frustration and guilt, mixed with anger for letting this to happen overwhelmed him. And he raised his eyes at his friend. The panic filling them, unsure of how possibly he will be able to share this house with her. Unsure of how possibly he could betray his friend like that and what possibly he would be able to do to fix it. Wanting to come clean, but not able to find the right words to do that except of just being honest.
I slept with your sister… mumbled Jordan, but too quietly for Brandon to hear.
