tell me more about classic filk i know a few songs but never got deep into it
Heck YEAH
"Filk" is music (often but not always folk music-style, often but not always song parodies to the tune of famous pre-existing songs) about sci-fi, fantasy, and other fannish topics. Filk circles are popular events at science fiction conventions, and that's really where the genre started. The word "filk" actually arose from a typo in a convention program once, and people just rolled with it ever since!
Some of the most iconic albums in the filk world are the anthology albums "Minus Ten And Counting" (songs about space exploration and the real-life space program), "Carmen Miranda's Ghost" (songs about sci-fi space shenanigans and space ghosts), and "Finity's End: Songs of the Station Trade" (songs set in the world of CJ Cherryh's Alliance-Union novels, and my personal favorite. I've never read any of CJ Cherryh's books, but these songs paint such a vivid world.) "Space Heroes and Other Fools" is another big one, it's more hit-or-miss for me but it's iconic. Other really good and foundational ones are "Divine Intervention" by Julia Ecklar, "Avalon is Risen" by Leslie Fish, and "We Are Who We Are" by Vixy & Tony.
I lean more towards sci-fi and space than fantasy, but fantasy and paganism are huuuugely popular filk topics too.
Some of the most popular names to look into include Leslie Fish (intensely prolific, barely a fraction of her work is on any streaming or music service), Julia Ecklar (famous for her "ose," the filk-world word for sad songs - because they're "ose, more-ose, and even more-ose), Juanita Coulson, Kristoph Klover, Vic Tyler (who just recently died :( rest in peace), Duane Elms, Kathy Mar, Bob Kanefsky, Alexander James (trans, with lots of filk under his previous name as well), Vixy & Tony, and Seanan McGuire. (I like Seanan McGuire's filk music better than her books, hah.) Some other great ones include Cat Faber (most acapella), Astrisoni, The PDX Broadsides, Kari Maaren, and Sassafrass (also mostly acapella. Includes Ada Palmer). Heather Dale, Tom Lehrer, and Jonathan Coulton are kind of honorary filkers too haha.
The best place to get the ones from 80s and 90s cassettes are on the Internet Archive or Youtube; a few filkers who are more currently active have their stuff on Bandcamp.
And I'll leave you with a few of my Favorite Ever filk songs:
"Sam Jones" by CJ Cherryh and Leslie Fish
"Pushin' the Speed of Light" by Julia Ecklar and Anne Prather
"Chickasaw Mountain" by Leslie Fish
"Fire in the Sky" by Jordan Kare
"The Phoenix" by Julia Ecklar
"Freedom of the Snow" by Leslie Fish
"Burn it Down" by Vixy & Tony
"Hope Eyrie" by Leslie Fish, or this Minus Ten And Counting version
"Rocket Rider's Prayer" by Kristoph Klover, Ernie Mansfield, and Cecilia Eng
"Dawson's Christian" by Duane Elms, performed by Vic Tyler or Vixy & Tony
"Somebody Will" by Sassafrass
"Chances & Choices & Fortunes & Fates" by Astrisoni
... my tastes lean sentimental and ose but I swear there's a lot of very funny filk out there too
"Never Set the Cat on Fire" by Frank Hayes (a famous one)
"Banned From Argo" by Leslie Fish (an INFAMOUS one)
"Don't Push That Button" by Duane Elms and Larry Warner
"No More SF Cons" by Juanita Coulson
"One More Ose Song" by B. J. Willinger
everything Bob Kanefsky writes

Given how thoroughly it's diffused into popular culture it's obviously not gonna go away for any reason other than being unfashionable, but I really do find that "Chudjack" grotesque.
Like, you guys know it's a caricature of a real guy, right? Patrick Crusius? A real guy who killed 23 real people?
I can't even imagine what it'd be like to have a loved one taken away from me like that, only to see their killer's image take on such a ghoulish half-life.
I am not interested in seeing memes where the icon of Patrick Crusius is depicted as a cartoonish stand-in for online reactionaries. I do not want to see subversive takes on Patrick Crusius where he is depicted as "redeemed". He murdered 23 people. He's still on trial (state charges) for murdering 23 people. On the federal level he pled guilty to 45 murder and 45 hate crime charges.
Remember that.
Remember Andre Anchondo. Remember Jordan Anchondo. Remember Arturo Benavides. Remember Leonardo Campos. Remember Angie Englisbee. Remember Maria Flores. Remember Raul Flores. Remember Guillermo "Memo" Garcia. Remember Jorge Calvillo García. Remember Adolfo Cerros Hernández. Remember Alexander Gerhard Hoffman. Remember David Johnson. Remember Luis Alfonzo Juarez. SEASON TWO WRAP UP: 2x04
I’m going to do some of 2x04, the Alexander mentions, and some other random ones. I wanted this to be organized but it’s become unhinged thanks to me. I’m really trying to move passed all this so I can start season three but there’s so much to go though 😭
Maryse going from all for a downworlder to Alec I’m so proud of you will always be iconic

this is one of the many reasons why I will never like or tolerate jace. Izzy almost died (also Alec) and jaces first instinct is to go to clary. I get she looks all sad there and just lost her mother but Izzy is going to be going down a destructive path of yin fein AND jace has known Izzy longer. can you imagine constantly being overlooked by the person you save no matter what?

she’s fine, she has Simon there
I get it’s traumatic for clary to lose Jocelyn but I’m glad she was killed off. one of the best decisions the show made. I’ll never forgive Jocelyn for her treatment of Alec and Magnus and Jocelyn didn’t even try to be a better parent. she’s so focused on being clary’s friend and “protecting” her, that she doesn’t think about what clary wants or needs. I don’t even like clary but Jocelyn is the reason why clary is such an awful person. if someone would have parented her right, maybe she wouldn’t be so insufferable

Alec with his bow and arrow skills 🏹
also Alec could have killed that demon there and then but they probably wanted to showcase clary’s “skills” or whatever

Magnus inspiration

I love in the beginning of season two Magnus being there for downworld and helping them. they really should have kept this up all season long. unless they were trying to make Magnus incapable of balancing both downworld and Alec. his relationship with Raphael is so sweet

Simon as usual has the worst timing

this is one of my favorite Magnus scenes. Magnus has priorities

this was the one and only time where I saw jace attempt a second of accountability

I’m giving all my points to Alec. Clary hardly tries being a shadowhunter and Alec has to put up with it. yes it’s hard but it’s called effort clary. I really think her rune gift is a shortcut. I would love to see clary actually being a shadowhunter the way everyone else does with actual work

also can we talk about the irony of Raphael being tortured and then he tortured Heidi? look I hate Heidi as does the next bitch but it’s an interesting turn of events. also Raphael deserves so much better. literally everyone looks at him as some monster when there are worse characters out there. Aldertree is torturing Raphael for information while Raphael just wanted to be a daylighter so he could see his sister. while it’s still wrong, it doesn’t seem to get mentioned that while Simon gets his family most of the time- Raphael does not. it was so calculated what Izzy did by showing they could get to Rosa just to make Raphael back off. I’m sorry but I feel more for Raphael than I do for Simon

Simon has ALL the support. he’s got Raphael, magnus, Maia, Izzy, Alec, clary, jace, some of his family, Jordan- he’s got everyone there helping him anyway he can. while Raphael has Magnus but he’s mostly been alone for decades, having to be under Camille’s rule, and having to see his family die while he can’t do anything about it. so yes, I will feel for Raphael more than I’ll ever feel for Simon. while I do like Simon, I love Raphael
and Raphael being tortured also gets overlooked. I’m not saying, spend every episode on every characters trauma but cut out alot of the heavy clace shit and save clace campaign, you have room for so much more content

I still can’t get on board with clary being a capable fighter. if they showed clary training more, it would have seemed believable but without the showing, it just makes it look like clary doesn’t have training and somehow she’s capable enough to defeat Izzy and also demon Izzy. no it’s the most unrealistic shit

Alec always being concerned about Izzy

even though Alec feels guilty about killing Jocelyn, he’s here to make sure Izzy is okay first

#anti cassandra clare#anti cc#just my stupid opinions#alec lightwood#magnus bane#shadowhunters tv#show alec is superior#show magnus is superior#show malec is superior#shadowhunter show is superior#marking this as season two wrap up#anti jace herondale#Alec always making sure Izzy is okay#it’s just not believable#Izzy almost dies and jace doesn’t care

I'm devastated because my first one just got deleted before I even had a chance to send it and it had many paragraphs... Anyways I will write it again 😭
I think her favorite ex was fabien considering back to december but atj and ben barnes is on the list too 👀
Charlotte & Selena and her hanging out together??? ICONIC. I love when women get messy tbh. We need more cuntresses in this bad world.
Dupe might trying to act unbothered but we know (everyone tbh) she's shaking, crying, vomiting, banging her head against the door every night (as well as charles) because at the end of the day she was also a fan and imagine getting in a feud with your fav when you also know you will inevitably lose at some point 🤭 she's just trying stall everyone atp.
Charles is making me ???? more in every update because my brother in Christ (I don't believe in anything tbh) why don't you say or do anything???? You fumbled THE bad bitch, lost most of your friends, made public enemy #1 in a few months and still no comment from your side? Not even a single one? Are they keeping you hostage because it's weird now??? Even your mother still liking and commenting on your ex gf's pictures (especially the one where she debuted her revenge era) your brother is still in contact with her... I know he realized what a big mistake he did but it's too late now. Cry about it honestly.
I hope lando will push him into barriers or something but considering it's ferrari it won't be that hard. I think the new season hasn't begin yet in this au so I have an idea: when she get a new boo, upgraded one, they should get invite by some team in the new season. And just imagine... They are walking through the paddock or etc, being THE iconic couple, and dupe and her bf just sees them... I know one of them or both of them wouldn't shut up and and her new boo just defends her while being the biggest simp??? He's like "I know my gf doesn't need protection from anyone but I will be damned if I let her ex bf who's gonna throw up in a second and her dupe to talk shit about her.." so in short : SHE NEEDS A SIMP.
So let's get into the new boo discussion 👀. One thing my mother (taylor) taught me is that you should never get back with your ex because you tried to work it out once and it didn't work, who's gonna say it will work the second time? Yes you can make up and be friends with them again but I don't think getting back together with one of her exes is what she needs right now. IMO she needs someone entirely new and will be the biggest simp for her. But you need to make a survey or smth for potential new bf options because girl everyone has an idea and all of it makes sense 😭😭
Michael b. jordan would be perfect tbh. Their age is similar, he's def a upgrade, I see the potential. But I don't think he fits with the pretty girl friend x obsessed boy friend trope tho. Still it's your choice so imma just put it out there 👀
Cillian murhpy while is an amazing man he wouldn't do drama... Though his dry tone and dry insults would probably make charles cry so it's a plus. But I don't think she would go out with someone who's older than her father tbh 😭 at least not after dicaprio now we know...
Henry cavill is so respectful tho he doesn't do drama too 😭 we need someone who will get messy without a fear and and being a simp without a doubt.
Also what about skarsgard brothers 👀 bill has a dry sense of humour and style too but alexander would troll the shit out charles so... Tho alexander is older than nando 😭😭
Anyways I can't wait for the next update, I don't why but I'm so invested in this story like you have no idea omg.
🦋
wait this is so thought out. you made some really valid points too😭

'23 SKIDOO
Before rattling off a list of my top ten movies for the year, I should offer a disclaimer. As with most years, it's based on incomplete information. There are still quite a few significant movies I haven't yet seen. But here, based on what I've seen and how I'm feeling at this writing, is my Top Ten List for 2023.

Killers of the Flower Moon--Martin Scorsese's epic yet intimate nightmare about the Osage murders in Oklahoma in the 1920s is a masterpiece; one of his best works and probably the best movie of the year.
Oppenheimer--Half of the midyear smash duo, this chronicle of the atom smasher of White Sands is a dazzling directorial performance by Christopher Nolan, fracturing his narrative yet keeping us focused. Possibly a hair overlong and anticlimactic, it's riveting at its best.
Barbie--The other half of "Barbenheimer." Greta Gerwig's brightly-colored take on the Mattel icon is crazy, imaginative and deeply goofy, yet in its own way no less serious in its ambitions. Margot Robbie is improbably touching in the title role.

American Fiction--Jeffrey Wright is quietly marvelous as an African-American novelist who so resents being expected to pander to white ideas about the black experience that he does so with a vengeance and becomes a smash. Cord Jefferson's adaptation of the Percival Everett novel Erasure is both rueful and hilarious, often at the same time, and beautifully acted by Sterling K. Brown, Tracee Ellis Ross, Leslie Uggams, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Issa Rae, Miriam Shor and the criminally underutilized Erika Alexander.
Maestro--It's not so much a biopic in the usual sense as a portrait of the marriage of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre. Bradley Cooper is luminous as Bernstein, and his reserved directorial style balances Bernstein's grand self-dramatizing manner beautifully. Yet it's Carey Mulligan's Felicia who emerges as the movie's guiding spirit.

Godzilla Minus One--The Lizard King stands in for postwar despondency in this one-off, one-of-a-kind monster spectacle that's also a surprisingly moving portrait of a nation coming to terms with utter defeat, and gradually starting to rise from its own ruins.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret--Judy Blume's classic for adolescent girls was a long time coming to the screen, but under the direction of Kathleen Fremon Craig it struck just the right note; sweet and lighthearted.
Air--Sneakers have become such a cultural touchstone that it's probably inevitable that we'd get an origin story for athletic footwear. Ben Affleck's account of the development of the Air Jordan line and the issues around it is absorbing and amusing.
The Holdovers--Alexander Payne's '70s-period comedy, set at a private school in Massachusetts, is essentially a vehicle for the performances of Paul Giamatti as a splenetic ancient history teacher, Da'Vine Joy Randolph as a bereaved cafeteria manager and Dominic Sessa as the kid they're stuck with for the holidays. But what performances they are.

Saltburn--After her stunning debut with Promising Young Woman, Emerald Fennel's second feature, a neo-gothic take on class, is by comparison a little overwrought and sour. But it's no less brilliant, and it comes together joltingly at the end.
A few others that I found to be worth my time: The Blackening, A Haunting in Venice, Dumb Money, Jules, Theater Camp, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Thanksgiving, Somewhere in Queens, Cocaine Bear, Renfield, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Napoleon and The Boys in the Boat.
A superb 2024 to us all!

I made AI write a Hendo/Trent fanfiction
Time-Travel Legends Unite
In the bustling city of Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson found themselves facing a new challenge – not on the football pitch, but in the unpredictable realm of time travel. As they stumbled upon a mysterious artifact at Anfield, an unexpected portal whisked them away to the historic moments of Liverpool FC.
Their journey took them to iconic matches, where they witnessed the triumphs and tribulations that shaped the club's legacy. Through each time jump, Trent and Jordan discovered the profound impact they had on Liverpool's history – moments of brilliance, decisive goals, and the unbreakable bond of their friendship.
As they navigated through time, facing dilemmas that tested their loyalty and determination, Trent and Jordan realized that the true strength of Liverpool FC extended beyond the pitch. Their camaraderie and leadership became the driving force behind the team's success, transcending the boundaries of time and space.
Amidst the chaos of their temporal adventures, the duo forged a deeper connection, strengthening the friendship that had been the backbone of Liverpool's rise to glory. Through the ups and downs, they learned that true legends aren't only made by victories but by the enduring spirit that unites a team and its fans.
As the final time jump approached, Trent and Jordan stood at Anfield, reflecting on the incredible journey that had brought them back to the present day. With a newfound appreciation for the history they had lived, they stepped onto the pitch, ready to create the next chapter in Liverpool's storied legacy.
And so, the echoes of their time-traveling adventure lingered in the air, a testament to the timeless bond between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson – two legends whose impact on Liverpool FC transcended the constraints of time itself.

Nike, Jordan Brand, and Converse Deliver a Show-Stopping NBA All-Star Weekend

NIKE, Inc. is dominating NBA All-Star Weekend, displaying its dedication to the game with exclusive exhibitions, events and product drops across its industry-defining portfolio of Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse.
Nike’s Future Game will feature a competitive showcase for future basketball stars, appearances from All-Star Nike athletes and exclusive product debuts.
Jordan Brand’s Bay Area presence will be anchored by the Jordan Fam Fest: the ultimate celebration of the Brand’s culture, legacy and family, in collaboration with Oakland icon Marshawn Lynch.
The centerpiece of Converse’s All-Star Weekend activation will be an immersive brand experience influenced by NBA All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Converse’s Creative Director of Basketball.
NIKE, Inc. is dominating NBA All-Star Weekend, displaying its dedication to the game with exclusive events, exhibitions and product drops across its industry-defining portfolio of Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse.
Drawing on their distinct legacies in basketball performance, innovation and culture, the three brands’ presence in the Bay Area reminds us of their unparalleled position at the vanguard of the game — fueling the future of basketball with a shared commitment to growing the sport, supporting hoopers at all levels and creating best-in-class basketball product.
Nike Showcases the Future of the Game at All-Star Weekend
Nike will celebrate All-Star Weekend by showcasing basketball’s future at the brand’s Future Game experience. This is the latest example of Nike’s continued focus on elevating the game for the next generation of one-of-one elite hoopers and providing a best-in-class youth basketball experience.
The three-day immersive event opens to the public February 13 at the Henry J. Kaiser Center for the Arts in Oakland and will feature competitive showcases for future stars, including Nike NIL athlete AJ Dybantsa, who will take the floor with Utah Prep against Dynamic Prep on February 14 at 8:30 p.m. PST. Nike Basketball athletes of the past and present will appear throughout the weekend, and local designers will create product customizations exclusive to the event.
Nike will also debut its new Black Label Collection in the Bay Area during All-Star Weekend. The all-black line cuts out noise and is unified by materials that embody each silhouette’s namesake athlete: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Sabrina Ionescu, LeBron James, Ja Morant and Victor Wembanyama. The quantity of each silhouette coincides with the year each Nike athlete was born.
The Nike Black Label Collection also features the new G.T. Cut 3 Turbo, which leverages the most advanced technologies built for the quickest players in the game.
The full collection launches February 14 at Future Game, Nike San Francisco (278 Post St.) and Foot Locker’s NBA All-Star experience (150 Powell St.).
Nike will also unveil several classic silhouettes, restyled to meet the moment of today: Nike Zoom KD 4 colorways that honor Kevin’s mother, Wanda, and the team colors he wore while earning his scoring titles; a galaxy-inspired Nike Air Foamposite One with constellation graphics, flight tags and glow-in-the-dark outsoles; and Nike Air Force 1 and Nike Dunk Low models that nod to the 2000 NBA All-Star Game, the last played in the Bay Area, and take cues from that era’s “We Believe” team.
Jordan Brand Shows Out for Bay Area Basketball Community
Four decades after Michael Jordan stepped onto the NBA All-Star stage for the first time, Jordan Brand will invite the Bay Area to experience what the Brand has always known: Greatness is unbannable.
Creating the next 40 years of greatness alongside the next generation of athletes and sneaker fans, Jordan Brand will bring the best it has to offer to the Bay Area — showcasing sport, competition and sneaker culture with exclusive drops, immersive exhibitions, community showcases and more.
At the center of Jordan Brand’s Bay Area presence will be the Jordan Fam Fest: the ultimate celebration of the Brand’s culture, legacy and family, built in collaboration with Oakland icon Marshawn Lynch. The February 15 event will feature planned visits from Jordan Family athletes, an immersive journey of the Brand’s most notable moments from the past 40 years, and unique consumer experiences that represent the future of the Brand — all beginning at 11 a.m.
Ahead of the Fam Fest, some of the country’s best young hoopers will take over the Bay Area as Jordan Brand’s Link Academy joins other top youth teams February 14 at the Nike EYBL Showcase at the Future Game experience.
The best of Jordan Brand retail will also appear throughout the Bay Area, with expressions of all the greatness the Jumpman inspires on display at Shoe Palace locations in San Francisco’s Union Square (February 14–16) and on Oakland’s Telegraph Avenue (February 11–17). The Union Square experience will feature the latest women’s streetwear products and experiences, including an exclusive drop of the new Jordan Brand Women’s Brooklyn boot, while the latter will include more exclusive product launches and a one-of-one premium retail experience.
Converse Celebrates Basketball and Skateboarding Culture
Converse will round out NIKE, Inc.’s All-Star Weekend presence by blending its distinct legacies in basketball and skateboarding to deliver programming that celebrates both pastimes’ intersections with style, art and culture, leaving a mark on the Bay Area that extends far beyond the final buzzer on February 16.
The centerpiece of Converse’s All-Star Weekend activation will be an immersive brand experience influenced by its Creative Director of Basketball, NBA All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Bringing fans closer to Gilgeous-Alexander as an athlete and creator, the studio space at 300 Grant Ave., just off Union Square, will feature Converse product customization, exclusive apparel and footwear, and surprise guest appearances February 15 and 16.
With deep local ties and investments in the Bay Area skate community, Converse will also unveil an expansion of the UN Skate Plaza, created in partnership with The Skatepark Project (TSP) and City of San Francisco. The upgraded plaza, designed by Converse CONS rider and MIT-trained architect Alexis Sablone, will feature skateable art sculptures and redesigned paving to make the space more accessible and fun for skaters of all levels.
To kick off the revitalized space, Converse, TSP and longtime partner Skate Like a Girl will host a day of community programming February 15, featuring product giveaways, a trick competition and demos from Converse CONS team riders. The brand will also partner with DLX Skateshop for further programming, live music and giveaways as part of national Skate Shop Day.
In addition, Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse will join forces with Foot Locker to demonstrate their commitment to the game with complementary exhibitions, including Jordan Brand’s Heart of Sneakers event, February 13 through February 16 at Foot Locker’s NBA All-Star experience.

The Fashion Killa - A$AP Rocky
A rapper from Harlem New York, A$AP Rocky is no stranger to getting dressed and looking stylish. Since his come-up on the music scene back in 2011, he is known to rap about high fashion designers and streetwear brands, and is considered to be one of the pioneers for mixing high fashion together with streetwear, which is a very popular style for the youth today. In 2013 he released a song called "Fashion Killa" where he raps about his love for fashion and stylish women which references over 27 fashion brands and designers. This includes Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga, Jil Sanders, Alexander McQueen, Raf Simons, Rick Owens and much more. The music video also features Rihanna, who plays as his love interest which is very ironic because 11 years later, they are now dating and have two sons together. Here is the iconic video below.

Rocky's style doesn't only come from his expensive clothes, but also his confidence to wear whatever he feels like because he knows he's going to look good no matter what. His bold approach to experiment different styles such as mixing designer clothing with streetwear is what sets him apart from other fashionistas around the world. His love for fashion is also very authentic and apparent as he literally raps about being a "fashion killa" which is why he is one of the most notorious fashion icons in pop culture and is here to stay for the future.
Here are some of his best outfits below that showcase his style of high fashion mixed with streetwear:
