if you don’t have time since I know you have to balance real life responsibilities too, as a fellow jonsa author I recommend doing a oneshot with the potential to expand so you don’t feel overwhelmed. I know I over did myself with all the ideas and eventually shut down. Which slicks because writing was supposed to be my hobby. I have only recently started to write again, since I found out Sophie and kit might be acting together again 😂😂

Ah could I be that firm in my conviction to stick to one-shot; even my one-shots here on Tumblr became a series. It's my hyperfocusing inability to state off an idea as soon as I have it.

usually I do follow my golden rule, at least have 5 chapter in and a raw idea of where I wanna take the story before posting it.

I am glad you are back and hope you feel better after having to put a stop to it because it became so much. More than a hobby I started out to practice my English as I am not a native speaker, and then it kind of son me over and I ended up actually becoming a fanfic author.

Go figures. I guess there were more stories I wanted told than I had realized.

I have a whole story on ao3 with potential beginning of stories so that I can write it out of my system and then try to focus on other things, so that I don't overwork myself.

But when the muse strikes... she does.

Although I do take breaks and hiatus they never last long, because thankfully, for now I managed to balance it all.

I hope to read more of your return to the Jonsa writing field, without overwhelming ourselves, because as you reminded me we must always take into account also our wellbeing. Even the most beloved of hobbies can become too much when we don't have balance.

jonsa antis claiming jon and sansa hate each other and that’s why jonsa won’t happen is so funny to me. they absolutely do not hate each other and you need to reread the books if you think they do. but even if they did, literally when has two characters hating each other ever disqualified them from having a romance? have none of you heard of enemies to lovers? did you somehow forget about pride and prejudice? why are we even having this discussion??

Gee, I love a good ol’ show verse Sansa-centric story with such great characters as bAMf lyANna mOrmoNT and Arya Stark who absolutely hates her sister more than she hates Cersei, Joffrey, and the entirety of House Frey combined, yet needs to be coddled like a precious little baby to even begin to treat Sansa with a shred of humanity.

All the while Sansa just has to take one insult after another because of course she will. It’s not like she can or even deserves to stand up for herself at this point. Better leave the talking to Jon, because if anyone can get through to the cool girlies of the fandom, it’s him. And in the end, they do have a point, right?

Jfyi, more than once i tried to send comments on ao3 but the function was blocked. It happened both with FP and TNS. Honestly, I thought there were people bothering you, which is in fact pretty unbelieveble considering that everyday you post is a happy day 🥰 to me. I'm rarely on tumblr and I never remember my password (I had to use a new one for this 😅) so I was really sorry not being able to tell you how lovely TNS was and FP and now G too! Thank you very much for what you do. 😘

what the fuck??? how did Frozen Pines also have restricted comments??? I definitely didn't turn that on. AND THE NIGHT SHIFT. what is happening. why is ao3 suddenly defaulting to restricted comments? It also affected your heartbeat next to mine. I'm genuinely so confused, this has apparently been going on since JULY and I never noticed and no one ever said anything???

I just tried to create a new work and sure enough, it defaulted to restricted again

Ok I googled it and apparently yeah, it's a new thing because of all the bot comments that were going around, now it defaults to users only. At least I know now, and I can set it back so anyone can comment. that's kinda frustrating lol.

I don't honestly get that many negative/mean comments, definitely not enough to make me want to restrict them, especially because most guest comments are super sweet

do you think the asoiaf series have an issue with romanticizing incest ? sometimes i feel like even a pulpy series like flowers in the attic better managed to communicate the horror of incest by making it a sort of family curse

It's not romanticizing incest any more than it is romanticizing violent abuse of power. GRRM's storytelling style is geared around the reader having to make their own judgments of whether or not a character's actions and choices are "good" or "bad" or harmful or life-affirming, or destructive or effective.

And he is definitely not writing "horror" in the sense of chilling you to the bone emotionally. (Which is valid, too.) He's writing a bit more intellectually than that. He's examining the subject. From multiple angles.

Why is incest harmful? What is harmful about it? Given a general lack of natural inclination toward it, what underlying forces are bringing it forth in the story? Are they similar to the underlying forces that cause other forms of harm?

When characters romanticize incest in the story, or when they normalize it (fictional historians or other characters about the Targs, mainly) this too is the author asking you to use your brain and question that.

If you read Fire and Blood and expect that the author is presenting you with Protagonists to Identify With instead of A Problem To Analyze, you're reading it wrong. It's fictional non-fiction. Literally a fake history book.

As for the actual novel series, you're still not seeing him romanticizing incest through characters like codependent Lannister-supremacy murder twins Jaime and Cersei, or Viserys's abuse of Dany, or Craster, or the rumors of Black Walder Frey. They all involve misogyny and objectification, supremacist disdain of "lesser" people, and/or outright generational cycles of sexual and emotional abuse.

Jonsa as a concept, too, is an examination of the underlying forces. In the so-called "original outline" (really one of many), GRRM directly plays with the concept of an incest romantic attraction between Jon and a Stark half-sister (named Arya in that case) that "torments" them, and is likely to be at least in part a commentary on the distortion of family relationships through the rigid status differences enforced by their oppressive feudal, patriarchal society. As in, the incest is not fetishized or romanticized, it is a problem that has to be miraculously overcome by the revelation of Jon's actual degree of relation, which paves over the "perversion" that existed because there was no natural family bond.

So... no, absolutely not. There is no romanticizing. The book series absolutely requires critical thinking, there is meant to be some emotional distance induced by the excesses it depicts, giving you room to question and analyze. If you swallow it all as a form of "different in-universe morality" then you're missing the point.

Hi! I was reading a college setting Jonsa fic the other day and vaguely a scene not from the fic entered my brain abt a Jon surreptitiously admiring Sansa in a vidcall with Robb and *snap* off to reread Skirling!

That was the first thing I (re)read in 2025 and it’s one of your fics that I’m super fond of in the way it just crept up on me and the more relatable the older I get, when it comes to new beginnings and finding peace.

It’s not… like event-immediately-after-event or as action packed as some of your other fics (Who Else Would I Be?, Captain Crow, wildling!Jon series, Follow Me Into Blackwater… I’ve read and reread your fics and appreciate the comfort of their Jonsa endings while going through sooo many genres and settings!!! Thank you what a blessing you and your works are to the fandom!)

I think Skirling was a great read to mark the New Year!

Also hilariously at least 3 diff posts on wolves kinda started being reblogged by Jonsas as “them coded” lol around this time, and Im laughing thinking of the Jonsa of it all! But one was like, tracking the same wolf pair for years having raised their pack and then I was like, oooh I’d like to think something like that was Sansa’s observations in Skirling. (They had to write the wolves with numbers as identifiers no names but i know in my heart she probably named them in her private journals).

Anyway thought I’d share! Your fics are wonderful and are being read still. (Match Days is my comfort domestic life/established Jonsa read esp if I’m crying over a post-S6 angst ridden canon fic. Heck prob if i ever reread asoiaf too.)

So, I'm sitting here writing and getting way too wrapped up in tiny details and feeling imposter syndrome coming on when this ask appears. This is absolutely the kindest ask I've ever received. You made my day, darling. THANK YOU!

Dr. Sansa in Skirling absolutely named those wolves lol. That one has a special place in my heart. Dealing with grief and loss as a writer is cathartic for me and I think it's something our favorite couple makes it easy to explore if you consider all the trauma from canon they've endured. I don't know if that's why they work so well in so many different time periods and settings, but I'm sure it's part of it.

I'm so happy to know my Jonsa stories are still being read and enjoyed. I expect they'll continue to be there even when we finally get Winds of Winter in 2035 or something.
