The most “boys will be boys” things the gang do

• Steve, Soda, Dally, and Darry stay walking around half naked, ESPECIALLY in the summer. Their shirts are never on. Soda’s jeans are unzipped half the time smh

• as much as they really really try, the Curtis boys are known for leaving their dirty laundry everywhere 😟 no matter how messy they can be though, Two-Bit’s room will always be exponentially worse

• one time Steve and Soda wanted to see who could eat the most chocolate cake so they each ate a whole half of a cake and threw up later

• Johnny do not be washing his clothes 😭😭😭 it’s rly not his fault but Darry will offer to wash up some of his stuff with Ponyboy’s and Johnny will be like “no thank you it’s not that bad 🙂” bros jean jacket probably carries the plague

• they literally don’t stop eating. It’s canon that the Curtis brothers all have big appetites, everyone else is just as bad. Most of their money goes to groceries bc they literally just eat and eat

• Ponyboy tries to lay in bed directly after track practice before showering bc he’s tired and Sodapop is appalled

• so so so many wrestling and football injuries. Pony’s always tripping and falling face first. Steve is a fucking pincher when they’re wrestling so Soda and Two-Bit always have little ass bruises on them from him 💀 during football Johnny is really good at slipping between people bc he can be pretty quick but one time he managed to take Steve down with him and they knocked their heads together

• Dally unfortunately enjoys driving around and yelling obscenities when he has Buck’s car. No one is off limits. He’ll trail behind Johnny and be like “ay what that mouth do” and Johnny just lets out the most defeated sigh

• Ponyboy and Curly were each other’s first kiss “for practice” and didn’t rly think much of it until they realized they’d only been kissing each other even tho they didn’t need practice anymore and never tried to get w anyone else 😭😭😭

• if Two-Bit sees any kind of animal worth catching in his mind like an armadillo or some shit he will indeed try to catch it and bring it to the Curtis house and Darry is just like if you don’t get that damn armadillo off my porch

— once the bell rung and it was time for lunch and you made your way to her class. walking into her class you made eye contact with the one and only johnny cade

— johnny cringed and looked away in embarrasment, “ of course ms. jones, when should i start? ”

— that day johnny had came over your house and the two of you only got closer there on

— johnny noticed how you werent like the other socs, you never made fun of someone because of their social class and had a good image amongst both socs and greasers

— the only person who knew that you and johnny had been talking was ponyboy, johnny would reguarly vent to him on how he wanted so badly to confess but he wouldnt want to tarnish your reputation

— as johnny and you spent more time studying together at your house, the tension between you two grew. one day, while going over notes for the upcoming exam, johnny couldn't contain his feelings any longer. he looked into your eyes and confessed how he felt, his voice trembled a bit from nervousness. It was a sweet moment that made your heart skip a beat

— after the confession, you both couldn't help but smile and laugh, feeling a weight lifted off your shoulders. from that day on, your study sessions turned into moments of shared affection and stolen glances. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship

— once you and johnny got together, ponyboy was so proud that it ended up slipping out to sodapop, and of course it wouldnt take long for the whole gang to find out

— they all bombarded johnny with questions,

— everybody was happy for johnny, while dallas on the other hand was a little upset on why he was just finding out johnny had a gf

— he wouldn’t want some soc girl to break johnnys heart so he still had his guard up around you

— once dallas got to know you better he seen that your intentions with johnny were pure and even looked at you like a little sister, not by any means would he ever admit it though

curly squeezes ponyboy’s hand, pushing his shoulder into his as the ground rumbles with the sound of a familiar car’s tires infront of them.

“get in the car, pone.” darry leans his head out, anger visibly present on his face. he grinds his teeth together when ponyboy makes no rush to push himself into the passenger seat. “ponyboy. get in.”

curly glances at darry, then back at ponyboy before he stands up and walks over to the car.

“i just wanna say-“ darry glares at him, but lets him continue. “-ponyboy didn’t do nothin’ it was me, he was just there.” he pauses, leaning in so that he can’t hear. “you gotta be good to him, he’s all messed up again.”

darry frowns at that, peering over curly’s shoulder at the obviously distressed ponyboy who had his head resting into his scraped hands.

darry pushes his door open, lightly shoving curly out of the way and squatting down next to ponyboy.

“pony,” he starts, voice soft in the way hes been using more and more often since windrixville. “you gotta get in the car, i’m gonna take ya home.”

ponyboy barely twitches, salty tears dropping through the gaps in his fingers.

darry wraps an arm around his shaking shoulders, making comforting whispers and noises into his ear.

ponyboy shifts, lifting his head up to reveal his red and swollen eyes.

“i ain’t runnin’ away again, i don’t have to this time. right?”

darry inhales sharply, exhaling even more so.

“no, no honey. you ain’t even in trouble, just had to fork over a bit of cash ta get the cops off your backs.”

“johnny’s disappointed ain’t he?” darry’s eyebrows furrow in response. “i promised him..-“

“johnny ain’t here to be mad, pone. and even if he was, he wouldn’t be.”

curly, for once, has nothing to interject with. just filled with the everpresent sense that he’s messing with something bigger than he can tame.

he slides back onto the brick wall next to them both, gulping slightly.

“cmon pony, it’s gettin’ cold and i bet you’d rather be in bed.”

ponyboy’s tears finally dry on his cheeks and he stands up.

“i know he’s gone. i dunno why i thought-“

darry kisses the top of his head and rubs a fist onto his chest.

“he’s still here, pone.”

“that ain’t good enough.”

Darry’s not used to having older siblings? He is the oldest, that’s just the way the world is-

Your brothers though? I have a feeling he’d be one of the boys who are the least afraid of your brothers

Like yeah, your brothers are well-known for being the tough hoods they are, there’s practically your own little family gang just between them

But Darry’s not going to be cowering beneath them, shaking in his boots afraid of them

He’s going to try and be a gentleman? He’ll shake your brothers’ hands, make conversation with them when he picks you up before dates

It’s just Darry being Darry, his mama taught him his manners and he’s going to use them <3 he’s a good person

SODAPOP CURTIS

I just have this gut feeling that without a doubt, Sodapop’s going to be at the very least, slightly afraid of your brothers

At least in the beginning, y’know? Meeting your brothers was probably one of the scariest moments in his entire life

They’re just sort of intimidating, I’m sure they’re the type to try and strike fear into all of the suitors who come for their kid sibling

After he proves himself though, either by protecting you from something or standing up for you somewhere, your brothers are pretty alright with him

Now he’s just got a few more older siblings who like to nag him for things!

I feel like he’d get along with them too, now they’re asking for you to start bringing him around more     

PONYBOY CURTIS

Unlike his older brothers, Ponyboy is, in fact, used to having scary older brothers! So yours probably won’t bother him at all

He’s very used to the whole tradition of giving your younger sibling’s date the third degree whenever you meet them for the first time

But honestly? There really isn’t a reason for your brothers not to like Ponyboy, he’s doesn’t really do a lot of bad stuff

Unless your brothers have beef with the Curtis gang for some reason, Ponyboy’s a pretty safe choice to bring home to them!

He’s respectful with them too, he does his best to make conversation when the occasions call for it and he’s polite when he stops by your house

They like to say hi to him when he walks you home from school, waving from the house or the front yard when you guys show up

DALLAS WINSTON

Do we really think Dallas is going to be off-put by you having big, scary, older brothers? Cause I don’t-

Your brothers don’t scare him in the slightest, and if they do, he’s never going to admit it Dal likes to brag that he’s seen worse up in New York and that your brothers are nothing in comparison to some of the hoods he’s dealt with

He’s going to be rude, he’s going to push your brothers’ buttons a little and pull you closer and kiss you deeper than is polite 

Honestly? I bet your brothers don’t really like him, they think you can do a lot better than Dallas Winston and will probably tell you that on the regular

However, if Dally takes down some Socs for you or something, plays a protective role that your brothers usually occupy, maybe they’ll start to like him a little more

That it doesn’t mean they’re going to be any more lenient when it comes to the rules about him hanging around though-

JOHNNY CADE

Probably your safest choice of a boyfriend when your brothers are as big and bad as they are, they’re very overprotective of you probably

Johnny has never done anything wrong in his life, is super duper polite and won’t push any of the lines your brothers draw

They don’t want him spending the night at your house? Johnny’s alright with that, he’ll give you a soft kiss on the porch before he heads off for the night

He’s respectful guys, he’s not going to push the rules and he’s going to be considerate of your brothers

If you ask him, he’ll probably tell you that he’s not afraid of them, only slightly scared but I can see Johnny kind of looking up to them like he looks up to Dallas

TWO-BIT MATHEWS

Hoohoo, oh boy, Two-Bit is going to run your brothers ragged-

Two-Bit likes to be annoying and your brothers are overprotective and it’s just so easy to get them all riled up

He’ll try and push the line sometimes, argue with them about silly things and just be a menace whenever he’s around them

Two’s not afraid of them like at all, he probably should be at least a little afraid but there isn’t one ounce of fear in his body when it comes to them

It’s another one of those, he’s gotta prove himself to your brothers? They think you can do better than Two-Bit, blah blah blah

But just one time where’s comforting you when you really need it or just being there for you when you need him, your brothers are a little more accepting of the hood

STEVE RANDLE

My version of Steve is an only child, so that’s going to affect this a little cause my Steve isn’t used to having siblings in general-

Is Steve afraid of your brothers? The answer is yes, very much so, thoroughly afraid of them

But he won’t act like he’s afraid, he just tries to toughen up by pushing his shoulders back and his chin up whenever he’s got to talk with them

Their approval is sort of important to him? He wants your brothers to like him, that’s really all he wants, he seeks the validation

Steve’s going to be polite then, making sure to have you home on time so you won’t break curfew

Your brothers probably think he’s a good enough kid, they’ll nag him every now and again, tease him just enough to keep him on his toes, it’s a brotherly kind of love guys 

TIM SHEPARD

Tim’s not afraid of your brothers, like at all-

He’s a gang leader guys, he deals with “big and scary” guys all the time so your brothers aren’t going to be any different

Tim’s got an attitude, that’s for sure, and it’s not going to change when it comes to your brothers, he’s still going to be a jerk and pester them and push all their buttons

He’s not rude? Like he follows the rules they’ve set for you, but he’s a little passive-aggressive, whispering comments that you’ll smack him for and just being a menace

Tim doesn’t take too kindly to teasing, he’s not going to let them push him around and your brothers will probably figure that out really fast  

Again, your brothers probably don’t like him, whether they don’t like Tim himself or they don’t like the Shepard gang? No one will ever know

CURLY SHEPARD

Your Brothers Either Don’t Like Him Or Just Don’t Like The Shepard Gang Pt.2

Curly’s not the greatest kid, he gets into trouble and does things he shouldn’t, but he’s used to having a scary older brother

Tim’s pretty good about keeping him in line, so he’s not too surprised when your brothers make rules about him coming around

Is Curly going to follow all of them? Probably not, he treats them more like guidelines than actual rules, curfew is more of a recommendation in his mind than a hard rule to follow

He takes care of you though, that’s something your brothers have to admit about Curly, he takes good care of you

From making sure he’s between you and whatever danger you might find yourself against to simply sharing his food with you if you’re hungry <3

ponyboy is the only one who doesn't try to throw a punch on a scare actor or one of the props. yes, johnny went for a swing.

steve makes fun of ponyboy for getting a little startled then immediately has a much bigger reaction.

two-bit uses darry as a shield from scare actors.

tim and curly are both banned from the haunted house for pulling a knife on one of the actors.

dally is banned for nearly setting a table cloth on fire but he sneaks in so he can keep an eye on ponyboy and johnny.

soda and darry went in telling ponyboy they'll protect him and that he shouldn't be embarrassed for getting scared, and came out gripping his shoulder's looking like they've witnessed a murder.

an actor dressed to look like a zombie looked a little too much like johnny's father and his fight or flight kicked in. ponyboy has to wrap his entire body around him while dally wrestles his switchblade out of his hand.

soda and steve always go through as soon as they can, so they can go back in with cute girls and look brave. two-bit will tag along to point out all the spots they got scared by.

darry accidentally scares the gang because he doesn't make a lot of noise and he's a lot scarier than usual when he randomly emerges from the shadows.

everyone thinks cherry is going to flip out but she comes out completely unphased and complaining about the costume quality. the soc boys she came with are literally shaking in their boots.

ponyboy gets scared by a frankenstein actor then rambles to the gang about how "frankenstein is actually the one who made the monster" and all that nerd shit, and it successfully distracts the gang long enough to get out.

Modern outsiders headcanons

Because of the way he acts and dresses Curly gets mistaken for an E-boy.

The gang have a communal Spotify that they all pitch in to pay for.

Darry drives a second hand minivan.

Two bit is banned from the aux cord.

Steve and soda have been dating since freshman year.

Darry had parental locks on pony and soda’s phones until they turned fifteen.

Dally basically lives with the shepherd’s he shares a room with Curly.

Ponyboy and Curly are 'secretly' dating.

They're not allowed to be left alone unsupervised unless they're in public and they're only allowed in ponyboy’s room if the doors open.

Curly sneaks ponyboy into his room at night to just hang out without being constantly watched.

Dally has caught them multiple times and the only reason he hasn’t snitched is because Curly’s bribing him.

The only person Dally really cares about is Johnny.

Dally and Curly both have piercings, dally has an an ear piercing and eyebrow piercing, Curly has multiple ear piercings( he wears fake ear stretchers he stole from Claire’s) snakebites, an eyebrow piercing, a septum piercing all of which they gave each other while drunk the piercings were done with safety pins and needles sterilised with vodka (that somehow didn’t get infected), they also have stick and poke tattoos mainly just of stupid stuff but Curly had the bright idea to get ponyboy’s name tattooed under his collarbone ponyboy thought it was stupid but kinda romantic. Darry did not.

The shepherds are mixed (black and white).

Dally’s platinum blonde but dyes it black. No one knows except curly who caught him dying it black with the hair dye he supposedly stole for Sylvia.
