The Opals - You Can't Hurt Me No More (1964)
Curtis Mayfield had so many great tunes that he could give them away - this one to the Opals, a Chicago girl group. I’m not sure who recorded it first, Gene Chandler or the Opals, but both versions are really good.

Throwback: The Impressions-I'm So Proud
"I'm So Proud" was one of Curtis Mayfield's songs he recorded as a member of The Impressions for their 1964 sophomore album The Never Ending Impressions. Mayfield's lyrics, falsetto, and the group's harmony were the purest expressions of love in the song. "I'm So Proud" was another R&B hit for the group who had already been successful off their first album thanks to the rise of "It's All Right." Johnny Pate started working with Mayfield on the second album after initially teaming up with him for the 1963 single "Sad Sad Girl and Boy." Pate's role continued with the group and Mayfield after he went solo in 1970. The Impressions were one of the premier soul groups of the time and "I'm So Proud" was just one example of their excellence that grew and asserted Chicago's importance to music. The Main Ingredient, Deniece Williams, The Isley Brothers, Isaac Hayes, Phil Perry, and Todd Rundgren have covered "I'm So Proud." The Impressions released more than 20 albums when they retired in 2018. The lineup changed and they continued to make music but their best music was during the Mayfield era. Their influence has been recognized in numerous spaces and by several artists. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.

FATE IS FATED
fate loves a date
do not be late
stand by the gate
sit, eat for a sate
peace will be late
crackers and pate
do not under rate
bitterness spate
swallow the hate
it is all, that’s fate

Gene Chandler - You Can't Hurt Me No More (1965)
You never know where you’ll hear some fantastic song - I heard this one while watching basketball when an Apple commercial with a crash test dummy came on. This is some great Chicago soul written by Curtis Mayfield. I actually knew the version by the Opals, which is also so wonderful that I’m gonna post it too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Robert Alda, Erykah Badu, The Beatles’s 1970 HEY JUDE (AGAIN) LP, Lazar Berman, Buffalo Bill, Michael Bolton, Bunny Briggs, Jonathan Cain, CL, Dane Clark, Jaz Coleman (Killing Joke), Paul Cotton (Poco), Ida Cox, Mark Dacascos, Fats Domino, Bill Duke, Cyrus Faryar, William Frawley, Jackie Gleason, Hagood Hardy, Bob “Bear” Hite, Victor Hugo, Betty Hutton, John Harvey Kellogg, Husband E. Kimmel, Marta Kristen, Christopher Marlowe, Max Martin, Seth Morrison, Michael Pate, Pepe, Corrinne Bailey Rae, Tony Randall, Nate Ruess, Mitch Ryder, Doug Sandom, Schubert’s 1869 Symphony No. 4, Levi Strauss, Dub Taylor, Yōsuke Yamashita, and the legendary singer-songwriter, musical pioneer, actor, and Bible scholar Johnny Cash.
No matter where I went as a kid, the “boom-chicka-boom” of Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Three were playing in the background, with emphasis on the Sun sessions and the prison albums. Cash was one of the unifying sound-streams amongst family and friends who’d, otherwise, never agree on what to listen to. With his own brand of rebellious humility, he sang about the temporal and the eternal, intertwining the world view of a hardscrabble working man with that of a mystic. Throughout my life, in consistent and sometimes surprising patterns, Cash spoke to me about spiritual matters, even if I didn’t get it on the first pass. Musically he proved that stark and simple could be amazingly effective. HB JC and thank you for being a role model. Please enjoy my cover of “Ring of Fire”…

I got tagged by the wonderful @like-the-rest-of-la 💖💖
🎶✨️When you get this you have to put 5 songs you actually listen to, publish, then send this ask to 10 of your favourite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) ✨️🎶
1. Dancer by Flo Rida My dance instructors played this during one of our lessons and I immediately fell head over heels. The beat is perfect for west coast swing and it's super fun to sing along to! For a bonus, imagine Buck and Eddie dancing to this à la @rewritetheending's dirty dancing au or @hetrez's dance instructor Eddie fic.
2. America by First Aid Kit This is a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's song, but I adore this version. A half-formed SSAA arrangement based on it is swirling around in my brain, and I wish I'll find the energy and motivation to actually put it together some day!
3. We Built This City by Starship I downloaded a custom map for this to Beat Saber, and it might be one of my favourite tracks to play now. It's impossible to sit still and/or not sing along while listening to this!
4. On the Way Down by Ryan Cabrera I thought making a photoset of it would make it stop playing in my head, but no such luck! It's so vibey, and, yes, the buddie vibes are there. The brainrot is terminal.
5. Mä Elän Vieläkin by Pate Mustajärvi feat. Harri Marstio, Jorma Kaariainen and Topi Sorsakoski This is a beautiful cover of Jimmy Webb's Highwayman (made famous by Johnny Cash with the Highwaymen quartet) that never fails to reduce me to tears. The longing, melancholy harmonies stab me right through the heart. It's unusual for me to imprint on a Finnish song, but this one did it. (The lyrics are completely rewritten for the Finnish version - I encourage you to look them up, if you listen to this, even if google translate can be a bit iffy)
Tagging the aforementioned @rewritetheending and @hetrez as well as @onward--upward @dearestdiaz @alyxmastershipper @elvensorceress @annansmith @toboldlynerd @thatsveryood @oneawkwardcookie (sorry if anyone is double tagged, I did not check anything lmao)
#tag games#me feeling the buddie vibes about one (1) song and immediately proceeding to push it onto others

Just an usual day - Ghost x OC (+Soap)
HELLOO
I haven't been here for a while but I'm back (I think, I'll probably disappear again tbh).
It's basically a dream I had the other night, enjoy <3
WORDS: 509
“I love how some people call themselves vegans and still drink water. That’s a fish house!”
“Soap, I swear to God, it’s 8 am, it’s too early for that shit.” Ghost said with harsh voice and gave Soap quick glance. Price walked into the room and grabbed himself a cup of coffee.
“Is it too early if I didn’t go to sleep?” Anna asked with serious face which caused Ghost to look at her. His browns furrowed as he tried to process the question.
“What?” He finally asked and kept looking at Anna.
“That’s a good question.” Soap said quietly and poked his food with a fork looking up like he was trying to reach the answer.
“What’s wrong with you too?” Ghost asked looking between Anna and Soap.
“I have part hear loss.” “I’m depressed.” They answered at the same time. Ghost just blinked still processing the events of the morning. Price took a sip of his coffee.
“You heard that?” Ghost asked turning to Price. He patted Ghost’s shoulder.
“It’s your girlfriend and your friend, you choose them.” He said and gave Ghost quick smile. Anna and Soap still debating if it’s too early if Anna didn’t sleep.
“Fucking hell.” Ghost closed his eyes and covered his clothed face with his hands. “What the fuck did I get into?” He took a deep breath and laid his eyes on Anna. She was taking a sip of her coffee as she noticed Ghost’s eyes on her. His eyes gave away that he was smiling. She gave him a smile back. “It’s still too early if you haven’t sleep, sweetheart.” Anna’s smile grew even more at the answer.
“By the way why didn’t you sleep?” Soap asked and took a bite of his food.
“Someone kept me awake.” She answered and ate her own food. Soap chocked on his breakfast and Ghost just rolled his eyes as he stood up to help his friend.
“Come on, Johnny, you’re alright.” Ghost pated Soap’s back.
“I regret that I asked.” He said and drank his coffee. Ghost chuckled and shook his head. He sat down and took last bite of his toast. He took the plates and placed them at the sink.
“I’ll clean that later.” He said.
“No way, you made breakfast so I do the dishes.” Anna made her way to the sink and started to do the chores. Ghost stepped behind Anna and wrapped his arms around her. He buried his head in the crack of her neck.
“Someone’s sleepy?” Anna asked softly and Ghost just hummed in answer.
“I’ll leave you two, gotta tell Gaz about those fake ass vegans.” Soap said as he placed his cup in the sink. Ghost growled and buried his face even more.
“Admit it, you love us anyway.” Anna said smiling as she dried her hands. Ghost sighed and turned her to face him. She lifted his balaclava just above his lips. He was smiling at her.
“You have no idea.” He said as he placed soft kiss on Anna’s lips.
