poly141 & f! reader ♡ | slight somno, smut, squirting, a whole lotta cum, piv ༝
Tumblr media
"pretty thing welcoming us home like this."
"been teasing us so much 'fore we left, 's only right that we fuck you good now hm?"
barely comprehending your situation in your state of lethargy, your bones still weary with sleep, your eyes blinked open to price sitting next to your curled frame on the spacious couch. his hands grabbing your flimsy camisole to push the cotton fabric down, exposing your tits. you gasped as you lumbered slowly awake to gaz peeling your shorts off and down your legs, price lifting your upper body to rest your head upon his lap.
"w-what?"
"s okay darling, we'll take good care of you."
simon manhandles you up on your knees on the soft cushion, your knees pressed open wide by gaz revealing your panty clad cunt to his and soap's gaze. you blinked up at price, tears now pooling in your eyes. he smirks and presses a soft kiss upon your forehead, strong fingers cupping your cheek to keep your gaze firmly on his, he must find your reactions to this unexpected foray amusing.
"i- i didn't know you guys would be home s-so soon!"
you exclaimed exasperatedly, tone rising in pitch when soap takes hold of your panties and pulls to reveal your pussy lips, the minuscule fabric now only covering and pressing tightly against your clit.
"and what a pretty gift we got waiting for us here at home."
"we've been waiting so long to fuck you baby, and we come home to you like this sweetheart..."
tears spill from your eyes, as john chortles and rubs them slowly away.
"nothing to be 'fraid of darling"
you jerk in simon's grasp as you feel fingers slip your panties to the side, baring your pussy to the cool air. fingers that are wending it's way to your clit, rubbing tight circles over the nub as your legs trembled at the unexpected yet pleasant stimulation.
"can see your little hole clenching sweetheart, does she need something baby? she want my fingers and my cock yeah?"
gaz dips his fingers slowly in your now weeping hole, and thrusts shallowly, johnny's thumb now engulfing your clit rubbing firmly, drenching gaz's fingers with more of your slick.
"already so wet darling, so ready for my cock."
tears cling to your lashes as you feel the blunt head of gaz's cock rubbing over your slit, gathering your wetness and tapping harshly against your clit. your face still held in price's grip, looser now that you can turn your head to watch gaz as the head of his cock enters your hole, easing his way in one thrust, engulfing his cock in your tight, wet hole. he groans at the warmth suffusing his cock, your pussy's grip on his thick cock tight as a vice. you moan at the intrusion, your hole stretched to forcibly take the entirety of his manhood in a solid thrust.
price brings your face up to his as gaz starts thrusting, bottoming out in every thrust, the wet sounds of your pussy accommodating his cock and the plap of skin against skin, price slotting his lips over yours to get a taste of you an effort to appease you, to get you even more pliable than you already currently were. your pussy clenches tightly gripping gaz's cock as price pries his tongue into your mouth, johnny's fingers back on your clit as if impatient to witness your release.
"go on darling, come on my cock sweet girl."
"such a good lass."
you felt the twitch of gaz's cock as you came, him following not long after, his milky cum gathering on your hole and dripping down his balls with the force of your orgasm and his continued thrusts to ride out both your highs. pressing a kiss on your shoulder he eases his cock out of your cunt, the spill of his cum obscenely pooling out of your hole and down your thighs, making a mess of the couch.
your legs still firmly in place by simon, who's bulge is at your eye level, your eyes widened at the sudden feel of another cock, undoubtedly johnny's if the sudden handful of your ass that he was currently grabbing to pull you and fill you with his cock was anything to go by. the frantic thrusts and fingers that never left your clit and continued toying with your pebbled nipples, grabbing every inch of your skin that he could fondle. his moans a surprising delight as you mewled when his cock reached particularly deep parts of you in his eagerness. drenching his cock in your cum, he didn't hesitate to pump you full of his in return.
now limp yet still alert in simon's hold, he handed you over to price his fingers digging into your hips, his pants and boxers open just enough for his cock to be out. sinking you down on his cock and elevating you so he could thrust from below, deep into your pussy.
"good girl baby, such a good girl f' me."
"taking my cock so well yeah? pretty pussy feels like it was made just for us baby."
price's thrusts were slower, making a point to reach your more sensitive spots that made you moan so pretty on top of him. you cried out in overstimulation, the mess of cum spilling from your messy hole lubricating his fat cock, the filling stretch making you whimper and wail, docile on his chest.
"oh don't cry baby, just a little bit more. pretty pussy gonna make me cum. gonna fill you up sweetheart."
you came at the rough scratch of his happy trail over your clit, a quivering mess on his chest as he pumped you full of his cum.
you were a disarray who was put back together again the moment simon stuffed you full of his cock in a mating press, his cock the thickest and most filling of them all, you felt stretched wide yet he was ever so patient in feeding you every inch. kissing you, as his heavy balls slapped against your ass with every deep thrust of his cock, the vulgar stretch of your hole to take his cock. it was no wonder that you squirted over the sheer stimulation of his thrusts, making a mess of his abdomen at your release over his thrusts, the slick pool of cum a lewdly gathering mess over his cock and your cunt.
"such a pretty girl squirting on me like that, pretty cunt loved my cock so much she couldn't help but make a cute mess."
the mess of cum and squirt dribbling out of your gushing hole they'd contend was their greatest masterpiece.

“who are you?” you asked the dark figure on your doorstep, his hat shielding his face from your lanterns. “your husband.”
you almost slammed the door in his face, opting instead to grip your rifle tighter. “no, you’re not.” he tilted his head down like he was talking to a small child. “yes i am.” you shook your head vigorously. “my husband’s s’pposed to be johnny.” the stranger swallowed hard. “johnny’s dead. i’m y’r next best thing, sweetheart. now let me in ‘fore the neighbors start callin’ the sheriff.”
or a western au where johnny was your arranged husband until he died and ghost took his place.
(more coming soon???)

Working at a restaurant with 141! (Part 1)
Let's get this out of the way, the restaurant fucking sucks. Don't even know how it's still open. The food is terrible. The owner is an incompetent drunk who's never there. You got referred to the job from a friend of a friend. You did an interview with the head chef/manager, John. He hired you because you were hot.
"The fuckin ass on that one, huh?"
Just like any man that works in a restaurant, they're all horny fucks who love to tease you. You'd run back to the kitchen and ask to tweak an order. Price would wink and say:
"Next time it's gonna cost ya."
When it gets slow (which was all the time), you'd sit in the back and chat about how they met and what they did with their lives. They all get paid under the table for various reasons. Johnny takes smoke breaks with you, sometimes Price joins. Gaz pours shots for everyone after "busy" nights (busy meaning there was an hour where there were two tables to serve instead of one). Ghost... well he's strictly work. Sometimes he engages in banter with the guys, but he only acknowledges you when needed.
Your first month flies by, you basically get paid to sit around and talk with the most charming men on the planet, and Simon.
"He'll warm up eventually. Just gotta loosen 'em up, just like any tight ass."
Soap smirked as he leaned against a counter while everyone was wrapping up for the night.
"Don't you have dishes to put away?"
Ghost snapped while wiping down his station. At least he was nice to look at.
You and Gaz would roll up the forks and knives talking about bullshit, knees touching. Soap and you would light each others smokes by touching one lit end to the unlit one, all while still holding the cigarettes in your mouths (he called it a cigarette kiss). Price would constantly make food for you:
"Gotta plump you up 'fore it starts getting cold, yeah?"
He'd look you up and down while sliding you a basket of fries. And Simon? Cold as ever. Even when he started driving you to and from work because your car broke down. He drove like a madman, but it was totally silent. You made the mistake of reaching for the radio once, he gave a admonitory grunt and you snatched your hand away.
As time went on, you got comfortable with everyone and they got comfortable with you. It started with suggestive jokes.
"Simon's just straightforward, doesn't beat around the bush."
Price said one day while prepping vegetables with Ghost.
"What are you talking about? He beats around the bush all the time Price, you know that."
Soap walked by with a shit eating grin while he was carrying a bucket of dishes to the back. Uproar from the guys. Ghost storms off following Johnny, knife in hand. You want to stop him, but Gaz places a hand on your shoulder.
"Best not to do that, just let 'em settle that amongst themselves."
Johnny comes back disheveled, wearing a different shirt. Simon is stone faced as usual as he goes back to prep. It only got worse after that.
You'd watch as the boys messed with each other more; pats on the back, that turns to squeezes on the shoulders, that turned to slaps on the ass.
"They're just handsy," you think to yourself.
Eye contact that lingers for a second too long.
"They're just close friends," you think to yourself.
Compliments that boarder on harassment.
"They're just joking around," you think to yourself.
Then you entered the walk-in freezer, only to make direct eye contact with Johnny as he has Kyle's dick down his throat.
"Oh, uh-huh..." you think to yourself.
You didn't look at their faces for a week, they acted as if nothing happened. Then, the flirting only got worse.
"Behind!"
Price would yell while grinding up against Simon's ass when passing behind him.
"Yes, Chef."
He'd respond while he continued cooking, unfazed. They seemingly shared clothes: the younger guys preferred to don John and Simon's apparel all the time. You stopped going into the walk-in for a while, you figured you'd give Gaz and Soap some privacy (although they didn't seem to mind an audience). Christ, was everyone fucking everyone here?
You were taking a smoke break with Price when he leaned back on the railing and adjusted himself, it wasn't really adjusting himself as it was more him gripping his thick dick and looking directly into your eyes. You nearly choked as he smiled.
Ghost threw you a hoodie when he dropped you off one night. It started raining before you got home and you were complaining about just getting your hair done. You tried to give it back but he refused to take it.
"Keep it. I don't care about that one anyways."
He shrugged. You'd wear the oversized hoodie to bed, the smell was comforting. Smoky, dusty, boozy, like Javanese vetiver. It smelled like a grown man. Delicious. Accidentally wore it to work one day when you were in a rush getting ready. That started a trend for the rest of them to get you to wear their clothes. It less of a trend and more of a competition honestly. They'd "accidentally" spill drinks or food on you.
"No worries, I've got an extra shirt in my car!"
They'd have a wide, cheeky smile plastered on their faces while giving you their shirt. Of course, they wouldn't take them back either; so you had a growing collection of huge shirts that you'd wear around your apartment. Eventually, you had to go back to the walk-in. Thankfully, there were no exhibitionists present. You were reaching to grab some ketchup when the door opened. You and Johnny stared at each other for a long moment.
"Need help getting that, bonnie?"
Before you could respond he was reaching over you, pressing his chest on your back. He handed you the bottle while his dick grew hard on your ass. He was breathing hard in your ear, waiting for your reaction. You pushed back on him and that's all he needed, he gripped your hips and grinded into you. Even through your jeans you could feel his dick twitch when you moaned. It was a hot minute of panting while he pulled you back onto him desperately, like he was trying to fuck you right through the denim. The door handle clicked. You both froze, staring at the entryway.
"Johnny?"
Gaz's head popped in. Your face got hot while he stared back and forth at the two of you. One thing led to another, and your pants are around your ankles while Johnny is face first in your wet folds. Kyle is standing behind you, fucking your thighs and leaving sloppy kisses on your neck.
"Pretty doll, how long have ye bin waiting fur this, huh?"
Soap looked up at you with so much adoration, like he was servicing a goddess.
"Gonna cum Johnn-"
Gaz whimpered and bit your shoulder to muffle his groans as he came right between your thighs and cunt. Soap cleaned up the mess greedily, savouring the taste of both your juices. He didn't stop eating you out until you finished. Gaz held you up while your knees buckled when you came undone. Gentlemen they are, pulled up your pants for you and wiped the smeared lipgloss from your face. You stumbled out of the freezer, walking past the kitchen. Price's eyes crinkled as he saw you head out onto the floor.
~
"You shouldn't do that in there. It's unsanitary. And a health code violation."
Simon looked straight ahead as he weaved between cars. You opened your mouth, but no words came to mind, so you just nodded. Your leg bounced nervously. He grabbed your thigh, stopping the movement. His hand stayed there until you were in front of your place. You stared at him, his brown eyes boring into you.
"G'night."
He pulled his hand away, placing both of them on the steering wheel. You walked into your apartment, dizzy with confusion. "What the fuck is going on?"

My brain is open to your bartender Ghost thoughts
Give me them all 🙏
Lordy this au isn't even an hour old and I have so many thoughts
He doesn't really know what to expect when you come in the morning after the interview. At eight am sharp, he watches as you trudge inside, wearing ripped tights, shorts, knock off combat boots, and a baggy shirt that's messily tucked into your waistline. It looks like you had put on eye liner last night and gone to bed, black lines smudged in a perfect "bedhead" look.
"Really?" He asks, arms folded and muscles buddging. "Come t' the interview in a skirt 'n dress shirt, n' show up t' the first shift lookin' like a wannabe biker chick?"
You scoff, pulling your hair up into a bun. "Didn't realize I'd be walking into the asscrack of "The Devil Wears Prada"..."
He huffs and shakes his head. You hve tough skin - good.
He had Soap come in early that day - poor man usually worked between 4 pm 'til whenever Ghost decided to close. He's still rubbing his eyes and yawning when a pen and spiral notepad are shoved into your hands, Simon pushing you towards towards the cook's table with a hand on your back.
"Hey, welcome to the 141." You say, no attempt at politeness in your tone. Ghost huffs fondly, appreciating how you cut through the bullshit. "Any appetizers today?"
"None o' that keech," Soap says, squeezing his eyes shut and pinching his brow. "Canna have a rusty nail 'n th' smash grunded, wel doon 'n with the bun scud - cannae stand th' aoli. Chips oan the side."
You stare at him, eyes wide in disbelief, before turning to Ghost. "Do they all sound like that?"
He grunts. "If they're drunk."
"Are you drunk?" You ask Soap.
"Feck if I know, tryin' tae figure it oot myself." He groans.
Ghost helps you decipher the words Soap had vomited out. You successfully punch it into the POS, only needing a few pointers from the giant over your shoulder. For the rest of the morning amd afternoon, he taeaches you which button on the soda gun was which, the difference between tonic water and club soda, how to run the industrial sanitizer - with a "ye best make sure that shite is rinsed 'fore ye stick em in there" from Soap - where the new kegs go when Gaz brings them in, where to find napkins and condiments in the walkin, how to cut fruit for the bar, and lastly, how to split your tips.
"But why do I have to pay you?" You ask Ghost, sitting at a table with your calculator app on your phone and a basket of fries between the two of you. "You make loads of tips just pouring liquor."
He chuckles, watching you pop a fry into your mouth. "'N you get a cut of sales from the kitchen, since you're part of it."
You perk up at that. "I do?"
"Seven percent." He confirms. "A decent payout on weekends."
"And Soap doesn't get tips."
"Johnny boy gets paid by th' hour."
"I don't?"
"If ya do well enough, ya won't have to." He says, resting his meaty forearms on the table. "You'll be walkin' out with hundreds."
You chew your lip nervously; Simon's eyes linger on the movement, shifting his weight - the polyester seat creaks beneath him as he observes you fretting silently, the silence only broken by the sound of Soap prepping in the kitchen. "Don' worry too much 'bout it. You're young - jus' keep a smile on 'n you'll be fine. Soap 'n I got your back tonight, but I'm not pickin' up your slack after the week passes."
The fry you're steering towards your mouth falls to the table as Simon stands up. "Tonight?!" You exclaim, shimmying out of the booth.
"Yep. Sixteen hundred."
You glance at your phone. "That's in an hour!" There are kegs stacked by the front door, unpolished and enrolled silverware on the bar top, and half of the chairs are still stacked on the countertops.
"Best get to work then, hmm?" Ghost says, grabbing a container of lemons and moving behind the bar.

I'm just imagining Ghost having a non-existent love life due to his past trauma. After much prodding, Soap convinces him to hire an escort to fulfil his needs. Not just any escort, either, but one of his old schoolmates who specializes in "the complete girlfriend package". (She's also plus-sized.)
-
"She's a right classy bird. Chooses her Johns real carefully." Soap admits, leaning against the bar top. He pulls out his phone and begins to scroll through his Instagram feed. "She's a lil' pricey, but look. She's got a private villa that she'll keep ye in the whole weekend."
Soap swipes through clusters of photos. The villa is beautiful and the interior has a rustic, home-y vibe to it. It doesn't look like a manufactured place, but like someone actually lives there. Ghost is intrigued just by that fact alone. He's never really had a place to stay when on leave. Well, he doesn't count his shithole flat as much of anything.
"She'll cook fer ya too. N' I think she's some type of masseuse?" Soap prattles on, flicking through even more pictures. It seems he was right. In one of the extra bedrooms there's a massage table set up.
"What she look like?"
Soap smiles sheepishly.
"She's not the type of bird I've seen you go for in the past." He admits before pulling up a folder of pictures on his phone. "But she's bonnie, Lt. A right knockout, I swear."
He scrolls towards the bottom of the folder, looking for a more recent picture. Ghost notices the the skin colored thumbnails as they pass by in a flurry. He already knew, didn't really care, but decides to press on it for his own amusement.
"You one of her Johns?"
Soap nearly chokes. He stops scrolling and looks up at Ghost.
"Well, um...yeah." He admits. Ghost taps on one of the juicy thumbnails. It opens the video. Despite himself, Soap blushes.
Neither man say anything else for a minute. They quietly watch the screen as a pretty cunt is being stretched out by a cock they both know the owner of. She's wet and dripping and glistening in the phone's flash. Her cunt is visibly softer, rounder, with thick outer lips and even cushier looking inner thighs.
Ghost is instantly intrigued by the sight of this woman's body. He'd always found himself in situations with toned or muscular women. He never thought much of it at the time. Ghost was rarely around civilians, and even then he never frequented places a soft girl like her would be seen. Now, in the rec-room, watching a video of Johnny fucking open this girl he realizes he's been going about things all wrong.
Johnny's not being very nice to the girl in the video either. Its apparent he's putting his whole weight and stamina into his thrusts. Ghost couldn't remember ever fucking a woman like that. He'd always had to go slow, angle himself just right to avoid hurting himself or his lovers. A tinge of jealousy shoots up his spine when he notices how the soft pudge of her thighs cushions Johnny's much sharper hipbones.
"Hm..."
"You like 'er?" Johnny asks. "She told me she's looking for 'new clients' if yer interested."
Ghost taps through even more of the photos and videos. They're mostly of her pretty cunt being fucked out but there's a few of her looking cute and relaxed in lingerie or nothing at all. She's got a decent face. Better tits though. Ghost doesn't think he's ever seen a set that fucking soft or suckable.
The last video in the folder is of her bare ass. She looks over her shoulder, smiles flirtatiously, then proceeds to shake her body in a way that makes her ass bounce rigorously. Johnny's hand comes into frame. He grips roughly at one of her cheeks and spreads her apart. A thick glob of cum spills from her slightly gaping, inner lips. The video ends.
Ghost raises his brow at Soap.
"She lets you cum in 'er?"
"Ya know I don't like rubbers, Lt. Can't stand the wee fucks." Soap laughs nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. "I jes' get a copy of my physical from the doc. Send it over t' her 'fore I drop by."
Ghost huffs.
"Here, lemme give you 'er number."
Ghost doesn't try to stop him when Soap fishes his hand into his jacket pocket. He already knows the security code.
"I'll let 'er know yer a friend 'o mine. 'F I vouch for you she'll take ya in no problem." He nods. "I think you're gonnae thank me after all this s' said n' done, Lt."
For good measure Soap texts her a simple greeting from Ghost's phone. She replies within a few seconds. Ghost's eyes glint at the little notification flash.
"We'll see..."

Ren wants her story told, y'all 😂 She keeps feeding me ideas.
previous
The pounding on your door wakes you. "Need to get scran 'fore the mess closes!" Johnny bellows.
You disentangle yourself from the covers and roll out of bed, shaking off the remains of sleep. Captain Price had you training on the rubble last night at 2300 hours. He wanted to be sure things were dark enough. He sent you in alone or with one of the others practicing with the night vision goggles, a first for you, and following directions blind. He also had you with him, being Soap's or Ghost's or Gaz's eyes. "Never know who's gunna be where when shit goes sideways. Need to know you can follow the path even if ya can't see it. An' tha' ya can get the others ta safety."
Well not as physically demanding as the training had been, the night had been grueling nonetheless. The green glare of the night vision goggles through you off more than you expected, and despite listening well, you still ended up covered in bruises from when you accidentally walked into a wall or other debris. By the end of the night though, you were proud to say that you'd gotten a sense of distance without a visual and how it differed man to man so when Ghost told you, "Take 10 steps then turn right," you knew to account for his stride and took 15 to avoid collisions.
Giving directions was the hardest for that same reason. Your stride and your frame so much smaller than that of the men on the team that you were constantly correcting your own calculations. You knew it would take a little bit of time, but you hated the thought that you were holding them up.
"Nae worry," Johnny said when he overshot the opening you were trying to get him through. Thankfully, he knew the terrain well enough not to go galavanting off and was able to backtrack to where he needed to be.
It was on one of the stretches where you were practicing your instructions to better fit the task force that you realized how cold you were despite the jumper you wore. Sometime after half two, Gaz tapped your shoulder and held out a plain grey ASDA fleece blanket.
You'd somehow missed the small stack of them on the back seat of the golf buggy, but you recognized the ASDA tag on the blanket at the bottom and took what was in Gaz's hand gratefully. Though thin, the blanket somehow held all the warmth of home. You wrapped it around your shoulders anytime you we're in the buggy with Price, making a note to yourself about triple checking the weather before your next training and to speak to Adam about top layers in your size.
Now the blanket, along with the borrowed jersey and overly large top layers, lay piled on the top of your bed. Since he'd pulled the jersey from what you assumed was a communal footlocker, you felt you had to bring it back to the barracks once clean. From how Price talked about them, you don't think the top layers need to be returned. The blanket you planned to keep because it was so warm and so easily replaceable.
You crack open the door and see Johnny's smiling face in the hallway. He leans against the jam as you turn to get ready. He looks avidly around your room, but you don't invite him in, and he respects the sanctity of your space. "C'mon, lass, brekkie ends soon. Ye doan wan' tae miss a meal when we'll be trainin' 'gain later."
You refrain from groaning but had hoped Price was only kidding when he said you'd be back out at the training facilities again in the afternoon. Instead you ask, "Do I have time to get cleaned up?"
He makes a big show of looking at the time on his phone. "Aye, Ah guess." You grab clean clothes and hoist your shower tote as he says, "Meet us in the mess in 10, yeah?" He heads off towards the mess as you dart into the bathroom.
As you quickly clean up, Soap heads to the mess to grab a tray of food for you in case the mess lines close before you get there. He quickly piles two plates full. He's watched you at meals and knows how much you gravitate to fruits and vegetables, so he dumps a double portion on your plate. He adds a bowl of yogurt and granola so you have protein for the day. His plate is covered with rashers and eggs.
He finds the team and puts both plates down. At Price's raised eyebrow, Johnny comments, "Ren was still sleepin' when Ah went tae find 'er. Told 'er to be here in ten. Ah think trainin' is wearin' 'er down."
Price hums. "Maybe we can find a way for a break soon."
Ghost hasn't taken his eyes off Soap since the Scot sat down. "What else, mutt?" He leveles a glare at the man. "Ya look like yer schemin'."
Soap smiles wide at his pack, leaning over the table to draw the others close. What he has to share isn't for others to hear. "All yoor things are on 'er bed." He pauses, long and pointed, before delivering the news he is giddiest to share. "Almost looks like she's makin' a nest."

John MacTavish used to spend parts of his summers in England visiting extended family and this is where he ends up meeting a boy a couple years older than him named Simon. Surprisingly enough, they hit it off. His bombastic, extroverted personality somehow manages to compliment Simon’s rather timid, introverted one. Joined at the hip, the two of them quickly call themselves best friends, and, as children tend to do, develop a bit of an innocent crush on each other – going so far as to promise to marry one another if they haven’t found anyone else by the time they’re both twenty-five.
But then autumn arrives and goodbyes are made and their promises to meet up again never come to fruition.
He doesn’t forget him though. Their friendship remains a fond memory, even a decade later, though much of the details are blurred with time. Perhaps it’s because they’d been each other’s first kiss – if the chaste peck of lips-on-lips can be called as such – or it’s the ring of twined straw, brittle as tinder, he has tucked away in his box of mementos that make that particular summer an unforgettable thing.
That and his steadfast insistence no one else is allowed to use a certain nickname for him.
In any case… those faded months are far from his mind when John Price is showing him around their base of operations, introducing him to people as they go along. The one-four-one consists of near enough two dozen operatives though he’s told it’s not uncommon to be mostly paired off with a select few of his fellow soldiers if they play to each other’s strengths. He nods along and pushes for the use of his callsign when folks wish to be friendly. Until, eventually, he finds himself face-to-face with a man who needs no introduction. A living legend as it were; who’s records Soap had worked hard to beat.
“Well then, last but not least. MacTavish, this is Lieutenant Simon Riley. Also known as–”
“–my future husband,” John finishes for him, based on a name, twelve percent of a full thought and the manc accent he’d spied when hearing him dismiss a batch of recruits.
Youngest to ever make the SAS and about to be the quickest one ousted, he thinks miserably when the eyes assessing him narrow at his declaration.
“Johnny?”
Oh.
“So ye do remember me!” Pivoting from mortification to delight, and heedless to any gawking voyeurs, John slings an arm around Simon’s shoulders to draw him into a loose side-hug. “No’ long now ‘fore we need t’ get hitched, aye?”
“Courthouse is a twenty minute ride,” Simon says drily.
Soap laughs, brighter than he can remember doing for a long time, before he immediately starts teasing Ghost about not proposing properly.
(He does, of course, do so years down the line.)

Beams of dappled sunlight streamed through the window. Groaning, I rolled over on my side, tucking into my lover's warm embrace. He hummed, pressing a soft kiss to my temple. His stubble scratched my skin.
“Mornin’,” he cooed softly, palm splaying over my back. My eyelids fluttered open, taking in the mess of covers and tangled limbs. Glancing over Johnny's shoulder, I narrowed my eyes.
“Where’s Simon?” I asked, bringing my gaze to his cerulean eyes.
“Out at the gym. Di’nt wanna wake you ‘fore he left.” His lips felt soft against my neck, gently gliding over my skin. I slipped my arms out from underneath the duvet, wrapping them around the back of his neck. His body pressed flush against mine.
I could feel his heart beating, his chest rising with every breath. His breath fanned over my skin, warm against the crisp morning air. His fingers skated up and down my bare back, idly tracing shapes into my skin.
His kisses, soft and deliberate, slowly grew rougher, turning to bites and licks. My fingers slipped into his hair, sliding up the back of his head, tangling in his curls. He groaned against my skin, teeth sinking into my shoulder. A soft noise, barely audible over my breath, spilled from my lips. I grazed my finger over the marks, feeling the indent of his teeth in my skin.
“Someone’s eager today,” I said with a laugh. He pulled away, his cerulean eyes fixated on me. Heat rushed to my face. I brought my hand to my face, hiding my embarrassment.
“Y’ look so good, doll,” he hummed, pushing me onto my back. His fingers wrapped around my wrist, gently pulling my hand away from my face. The mattress shifted beneath us as he moved to lie between my legs. His stiffening cock nudged against my thigh. A soft noise fell from my lips.
“My hair's a mess,” I hummed, turning away from his burning gaze.
“Dinnae care,” he huffed, leaning in to trail kisses over my bare ribs. I gasped, my back arching off of the mattress. His tongue circled my nipple, taking the delicate skin into his mouth. His lips wrapped around the bud, sucking harshly.
“I haven’t brushed my teeth or anything,” I said through heavy breaths, my fingers clutching his locks. He didn’t respond, only offering me a hum as his fingers skated closer to my core. His teeth grazed my nipple, pulling a shaky breath from my lungs.
He pushed a finger inside of me. Moaning, I tossed my head back against the pillows. He pulled off my chest with a soft pop, blue eyes taking in every reaction I offered. He pushed the blanket away, biting down on his lip as he watched his digit sink inside of me.
He added another finger, blue eyes trained on my core. My brows furrowed, soft moans falling from my tongue. His fingertips curled upward, brushing against my nerves.
“What about Simon?” I asked, wrapping my fingers around his wrist.
“We’ll be quick, right?” He smirked. “Just need someone tae take care of this pussy.”
He slowly kissed down my stomach, growing closer and closer to my core. He settled his free hand on my knee, nudging my legs apart. My eyelids fluttered closed as he leaned in, swiping his tongue up my core. He groaned against my skin, sending jolts of pleasure up my spine. My fingers gripped the sheets, knuckles turning white.
He wrapped his lips around my clit, sucking harshly as he rocked his fingers in and out of me. My hips bucked forward, jutting closer to his mouth. A low laugh rumbled in his chest as he added another finger. My fingertips carded through his hair, latching onto the locks. He shook his head, nuzzling impossibly closer to my core.
Pressure slowly built in my stomach, growing tighter and tighter with every flick of his tongue. The drag of his fingers against my insides pulled soft noises from my throat.
“Johnny, please!” I whined, squirming under his touch. He grunted, slinging his arm over my stomach to hold me still. I writhed against his hold, desperately seeking the sensation.
The sheets beneath me were soaked in my arousal. A dark spot slowly grew with each passing minute. He grunted against my cunt, rutting his hips against the mattress. Heat bloomed in my face as I watched him get off on my pleasure.
Drool pooled in the corner of my mouth, running down my face. The soft noises that left my lips grew louder, drenched in desperation. He pulled away, a silver string of saliva connecting his plush lips to my core.
The pace of his fingers sped up. The muscles in his arm tensed as he forcefully pistoned them in and out of my cunt. My vision blurred, unrestrained noises falling from my lips.
“C’mon, cum for me,” he grunted. Pushing my leg further apart.
My cunt squelched as he fucked his digits into me, rough and unrelenting. Hot tears brimmed in my eyes as the sensation bordered on overstimulation. My thighs shook, clamping down around his wrist, only to be forced apart again.
My muscles tensed under his touch as a wave of pleasure washed over my body. Warmth blossomed in my core as I gushed around his fingers, soaking the sheets beneath us. With his other hand, he swiped his palm over my clit, pulling a scream from my chest.
“That’s it, so good fer me,” he cooed. He slipped his fingers from my core, wrapping the sodden digits around his cock. Pushing forward, he nudged the head of his cock inside of me.
A desperate whine left my lips. My ankles crossed behind his back, keeping him flush against me as he slowly sank inside of me. With a soft grunt and a heavy sigh, he bottomed out inside of me.
“Fuckin’ squeezing me,” he groaned. He leaned in, his lips meeting mine in a messy kiss. I could taste myself on his breath, along with his morning coffee. His tongue slid across my bottom lip before pushing into my mouth. Groaning against my lips, he swirled his tongue around my own.
The mattress squeaked as he slowly rocked his hips. His tip nudged against my cervix with every thrust forward. Every thrust ignited my nerves, sending jolts of pleasure up my spine.
A soft clatter drew my attention. Johnny pulled back, breathing heavily as he looked over his shoulder. I followed his gaze, my eyes widening when they landed on Simon.
He was dressed in gym clothes, his hair dampened with sweat. Beside his foot was a duffel bag. He stood, leaning against the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. Johnny stilled inside of me, staring at the man with wide eyes.
“Go on,” Simon grunted.
Biting down on my lip, I turned my attention back to the brunette in front of me. His blue eyes raked down my body. He leaned forward, pushing my knees against my chest. My eyes locked onto his cock as it disappeared inside of me.
“Johnny,” I whined. Slapping echoed throughout the room as his hips roughly met my ass. Sweat beaded down my chest. My lungs burned as I panted, shallow breaths leaving my lips.
His blue eyes glazed over as he sank further into his own pleasure. A stream of soft groans left his lips. His fingers dug into the flesh of my ass, pulling my hips against his, and meeting every thrust.
“Feel s’ good,” he sputtered, his hips stuttering as he thrusted forward into me. He was close, twitching inside of me. His grip on my hips tightened, nails digging into my skin.
I exhaled a shaky breath, glancing over at Simon. I clenched around Johnny as my eyes trailed down the Brit's body. His shorts were hanging low around his thighs, thick fingers wrapped around his cock. He narrowed his eyes at me.
“Keep your eyes on him,” he spat.
Choking out a moan, I turned my attention back to Johnny. His lips found mine in an instant, meeting in a sloppy, open-mouthed kiss. He groaned against my lips, grinding his cock against my insides.
He slipped his hand between our bodies, circling his thumb around my clit. My hips bucked into his hand, a whine falling from my chest. Tension settled between my hips, growing with every thrust. I could feel his thrusts in my chest, pushing the air from my lungs. I gasped, breathlessly mumbling praises.
“I’m so close, so close-” he sputtered, eyes squeezing shut. I ran my fingers through the short curls at the base of his neck.
His pace grew erratic. His fingernails dug into my skin, leaving behind angry red marks. I crossed my legs behind his back, keeping him flush against me as he stilled. Warmth flooded my insides, spilling down my thighs.
He dropped his weight onto me, his chest meeting mine. His hot breath fanned over my sticky skin. He pressed messy kisses to the crook of my neck, slowly riding out his orgasm.
“Keep going,” Simon grunted from the corner of the room. I turned my attention to the blonde as he slowly stalked over to the edge of the bed. Johnny breathlessly shook his head, burying his face into my neck.
“Hope you didn’t think this was over.” His thick fingers tangled in his curls, pulling Johnny off of my chest. The Scot’s face contorted, a moan ripping from his chest as Simon sank his cock inside of him.
“It’s over when I say it’s over,” the Brit huffed.
“I can’t- please!” Tears spilled from Johnny's blue eyes as Simon pushed his hips forward into me. He choked out a sob, gasping as Simon wrapped his arm around his neck. Simons biceps tensed, pressing into the Scot’s neck.
“You can and you will,” he groaned, thrusting harshly into Johnny. “You wanted this, you’ll fucking take it.”
Johnny's cock twitched inside me as thick tears streamed down his face. My nose scrunched up, eyes shutting tight as I sunk into the feeling of his cock dragging against my insides. I was painfully close, shallow breaths leaving my sticky chest.
Simon loosened his grip on the brunette's neck. Chuckling as Johnny took in deep gasping breaths. A moan left me as I took in the scene before me. Brown eyes locked onto me. Heat rose to my cheeks as his gaze burned through me.
“Feelin’ left out?” He said with a crooked smile. “Go on, Johnny, give ‘em some attention.” The Scot merely let out a whine as a response. I bit down on my lip, quelling the noises that threatened to rise.
His pace didn’t relent for a moment as he waited for a coherent response. He narrowed his eyes, huffing as he bullied his cock into the Scot. A stream of whines and whimpers left the brunette's puffy lips.
“Do I have to do everything myself?” The Brit sighed, spitting on his fingers. He brought the digits to my core, messily circling my clit. I choked out a sob, tossing my head back against the pillows. My cunt fluttered around the Scot, pulling a whine from his throat.
Pressure swelled in my stomach. Like red hot iron being dropped into water. Bubbling away, nearly at a boiling point. My thoughts faded, replaced by the sensation of his cock against my insides. Replaced by every whine and whimper he let out. Replaced by the fingers toying with my clit.
My legs tensed, stiffening under their touch. I seized, my back rising off of the mattress. Pleasure surged through my body like a live wire, lighting up every nerve ending. Sweat poured from my skin as I slowly rode out my orgasm.
“Fuck- please!” Johnny cried, his jaw going slack. My back arched off of the bed, hips jolting forward into Simon’s hand, judging Johnnys cock even deeper inside of me. He whined, spilling inside of me. Simon grunted, biting down on his bottom lip.
Simon's grip around Johnny relented. The Scot whined, pulling out of me and falling onto his side. I turned my head to face the brunette. Leaning in, I pressed a kiss to his temple. My fingertips skated across his forehead, brushing the damp curls away from his flushed face.
His breaths were heavy, intertwined with soft sighs. He stared at me with half-lidded eyes, his pupils dilating once they settled on my face. He leaned into my touch, draping his hand over my own. I whispered soft praises, only audible to the brunette beside me.
I whined as Simon’s thick fingers wrapped around my ankle, pulling me toward him. He slipped his fingers beneath the condom, pulling it off of his leaking length. Heat rushed to my face as he reached forward, spreading my cunt with his fingers. Thick ropes of cum slid down my thighs, sinking into the sheets below.
“Made quite the mess, didn’t he?” Simon said, his voice rumbling deep in his chest. I clenched around nothing, biting back the moan that rose in my chest. His fingers wrapped around the base of his cock, guiding it towards my cunt. He nudged his head inside, groaning at the feeling of his lover's seed inside of me.
“You’ll take what I give you, huh?” He said, bottoming out inside of me. My jaw went slack, heavy breaths leaving my tongue. I stared at him through my lashes, nodding as I felt him twitch inside of me.
He lowered himself, lips meeting mine in a hasty kiss. The mattress squeaked beneath us as he rutted his hips into mine.
Desperate noises fell from my tongue. Simon hummed, swallowing up every one of my noises with a satisfied smirk. My hips ached, struggling to accommodate his large frame. Tears brimmed in my eyes as he nudged against my cervix, cock thrusting into me unrelentingly.
He pulled back, brown eyes taking in my expression, soaking in every twinge of my eye, every grimace I offered. Pain melded with pleasure, becoming indistinguishable from one another. I took it all, sinking further and further into the feeling as I lost any sense of my surroundings. It was only him, only his cock inside of me.
“Wan’ you to squirt for me, like you did with Johnny, yeah?” He huffed, pistoning his hips into me. Loud slapping filled the room. His hand snaked between my legs, rubbing sloppy circles against my clit. Pain swelled in my eyes as they rolled to the back of my head. My jaw clicked as it went slack. Drool pooled in the corner of my mouth, running down my face.
I wrapped my fingers around his wrist, nails digging into his pale skin. My legs tensed under his touch, pulling taut like string. With a whine, my back arched off of the mattress. He let out a low laugh, his toned chest heaving as he watched me squirm beneath him. He held me tight against the mattress, keeping me still as he roughly fucked into me.
It was all too much and yet not enough. Somehow, I was barely teetering on the edge, threatening to spill over, growing closer and closer with every thrust. I gripped the headboard tight, knuckles turning pale as they tensed around the wood.
I choked out his name, tears running down my blotchy cheeks. My cunt fluttered around him as I reached my peak. Burning hot tendrils wrapped around my limbs, my body contorting under his touch. Static subsumed my vision, tinnitus taking over my hearing as my pleasure took over me. His voice sounded distorted, reverberating through my empty head as he spoke.
“Come on, you can do better than that,” he clicked his tongue, continuing his relentless assault on my clit. Snot ran from my nose, tainting my tongue with its salty taste. I kicked my legs, thrashing underneath him. He didn’t let up for even a second, brown eyes locked onto my fluttering cunt.
A biting cold sensation shot up from my toes, climbing until it reached my spinal cord. I went limp under his touch, screaming his name as I gushed around his cock. He grunted, roughly swiping his palm against my clit.
He stilled, eyes fluttering closed as he reached his peak. He only offered a single grunt as he came inside of me. I felt the burning blue gaze of Johnny, eyes wide as he took in my fucked out frame.
Simon pulled out, nudging my legs open. Heat rushed to my face as his brown eyes fixated on the dripping mess between my legs. His thick fingers spread my cunt, a low groan falling from his lips as he took in the sight. I was marked, my insides claimed by the two men.
With a sigh and a soft squeak from the mattress below, he was gone. I whined, rolling over onto my side. Gritting my teeth, I tucked my legs into my chest, pushing through the burning ache in my hips.
I tensed as every ache and pain slowly came back into focus. The haze of my orgasm faded, leaving behind a sense of clarity and the burning sensation of lactic acid in my veins.
In the other room, I could hear the faint sound of the tap. I sniffed, wiping the snot on my upper lip with the back of my hand. The mattress dipped again, squeaking as Johnny disappeared from the bedside.
Faintly, over the sound of the faucet, I could hear his accent. Unable to make out anything besides hushed voices, a booming depth that could only be Simon.
“Go. Now.” The Scot said.
Soft footsteps padded across the hardwood floor, stopping just before the edge of the bed. I opened my eyes, looking up at the man before me. His brows furrowed, eyes anxiously flicking across my face.
“Lovie, you awright?” He asked, gently draping his hand over my back.
“I think I fucked up my hip, Si.” I sniffled.
“You pulled your flexors,” he said, thumb gently stroking my skin. “I ran a bath. Do you need me to carry you?” I nodded. A faint smile crept across his face as he leaned in, pulling me into his embrace. I groaned as pain blossomed in my lower limbs.
I hooked my arms around the back of his neck, nuzzling my face against his chest. He stepped into the bathroom, a cloud of steam washing over the both of us. Johnny was already settled under the water, his head tilted back against the rim of the tub.
“Jesus, ah told you y’ went too hard, ye numpty,” Johnny said as Simon set me on the edge of the tub.
“I know- I know,” Simon sighed, gently moving my legs. I slowly dipped my feet into the hot water. “I’m sorry, lovie.”
“Y’ not gonna say it to me? Ah can barely sit!” Johnny leaned forward, gently easing me into the water. His hands settled on my hips, tugging me into his embrace. His soft lips pressed gently kisses to my cheek and down my jaw.
“I’ll put a kettle on.” Simon turned, starting toward the doorway.
“Si,” I called out after him. He glanced at me over his shoulders, deep eyes welling with tears. “I love you,” I spoke softly. He turned on his heel, stepping forward, reaching out with his hand.
His lips met mine in a tender kiss. I leaned forward, melting into his touch and the faint taste of protein powder on his tongue.
When he pulled away, his eyes didn’t leave me for a moment. Resting my hands on the edge of the tub, I smiled at him.
“When you’re done, why don’t you join us?”

being hit on at the gym is something that you’ll never really get used to. especially when men don’t take the hint.
“hey.”
you look up to find the man you’ve been trying to avoid since you walked in. you give him a silent nod before continuing to stretch.
“haven’t seen you in a while.”
silence.
“don’t wanna talk?”
silence.
before he could respond to your silence, a tall man appears in your peripheral view.
“hey, sorry to bother. do you mind spotting for me real quick until my friend returns?” a tall man asks. you spot his tattooed arm, sweat glistening against his skin, telling you he’s well into his workout at this point.
your eyes flicks between the two men, opting to help the stranger you just met over the creep who won't leave you alone.
standing up, you walk with the stranger to his spot, him occasionally turning to look at the man you’re avoiding.
“do you know that guy?” he asks, purposely blocking the creep’s view of you.
taking notice of his actions, you give him a grateful smile. “not really,” you sigh. “he always tries to talk to me when i’m here.”
he nods. “i’m johnny, by the way.” he extends his hand and you quickly grab it, introducing yourself to him as well. “are you planning on doing a set, too?”
“i was, but considering that guy is lingering, i might just leave after this.”
“i can stay until you’re done, i don’t think it’s fair you have to leave because of that loser.”
“would you really?” your eyes light up the offer, causing johnny to smile. “what about your friend? would they mind?”
johnny chuckles. “i came alone. i noticed how uncomfortable that guy was making you and thought that he’d leave you alone if you were busy,” he turns to see the guy still waiting around. “but he clearly isn’t.”
“that’s nice of you, thank you. i’ll gladly take your offer, if you don’t mind.”
he nods, a small chuckle part his lips. taking his position to continue his workout, you place yourself near the barbell and your hands carefully hover over his movements as he lifts the bar with the weight plates attached to the ends of the bar. he does it with ease, easily impressing you.
when he’s done, he helps you finish your workout in return. he occasionally blocks your view from the creep, who shamelessly tries to get a better view of you from different angles. when he gets uncomfortably close, you see johnny’s frustration spill over.
“can we help you?” he snaps, eyes narrowing at the persistent pervert who just can’t seem to leave you alone. “if not, fuck off.”
“i just want to talk to her.”
“no, not a fucking chance.” johnny retorts, towering over the incessantly bothersome man.
you sit up, watching as johnny continues to block you from view. a worker takes notice of the commotion and quickly defuses the situation, escorting the gym creep out the door.
you thank the man you met that night. “you really didn’t have to, but i appreciate it a lot.” grabbing your gym bag, johnny does the same, following you out the front doors.
"did you drive here?" he asks, looking around. "i can walk you to your car, if you'd like."
you pause for a moment before taking up his offer. “seriously, thank you for tonight,” you let out turning to the tall man next to you as you both walk to your car.
he smiles, the street lights illuminating his tired features. “do you come here a lot?” he asks, hand gripping tighter on the strap of his gym bag.
you nod. “all the time,” you giggle before you stop in front of your car.
johnny’s mind tugs back and forth, debating on asking what he wants to ask you but a few seconds later, he clears his throat. “where’s your phone?”
you pull your phone out of the front pockets of your gym bag, looking at johnny in confusion.
without a word, he quickly airdrops his number with you.
“if you need someone to come with you to the gym or if you’re wondering if i’ll be there, feel free to text me.” he pauses. “just in case, y’know?”
your heart swells with joy, although you try to hide it with a kind smile. you don’t protest.
that’s how it started.
since that night, you’ve been going to the gym with johnny. the men who hit on you slowly dwindle to the occasional one or two guys who quickly leave you alone when they notice you’re with johnny.
after every work out, johnny walks you to your car without fail.
tonight you notice his demeanor change ever so slightly, almost as if something is weighing heavy on his mind.
“are you okay?” you ask, placing a gentle hand on his arm.
“yeah,” he forces a smile. “i’m fine.”
you stop in your tracks. “are you sure? did i do something wrong?”
johnny lets out a small laugh. “no, not at all.” sharply inhaling, he pulls you aside. “i’ve been wanting to ask you something.”
“sure.”
“please forgive me if i have my wires cross,” his voice trembles a bit. “i’ve been really enjoying coming here with you and the texts here and there.”
your body fills with anxiety — your heart races and you begin to lightly pick at your nails, unsure of where he’s going with this conversation.
“i was thinking, if you’re okay with it, maybe we could hang out outside of the gym.” johnny avoids eye contact, something you’ve noticed he rarely does.
a breath of relief leaves you. “like a friend hang out or a date?” you ask.
“i was hoping for more of a date,” he clears his throat. “but if you don’t want that, i get it. we can just hang out as friends. that’s totally fine.”
“when and what time?”
“tomorrow night? how does 7 sound?” he takes his bottom lip between his teeth, something you notice he does a lot.
you grin up at him, heart fluttering with happiness. “it’s a date.”

The front door shut, and the social worker left, leaving you alone with all these tall, strong men who now just stared at you. You stood near the door, backpack over your shoulder, tense as if ready to bolt at the slightest thing.
The men seemed to notice this, the bear hybrid and the harpy exchanging glances, before the former slowly approached you, taking note of how you kept your feet angled to the door, a sure sign you were ready to run. He didn’t blame you. The past children they had fostered had been the same at first, timid, shy, spooking easily. You just seemed to have a worse case of it.
He stopped about a foot in front of you, slowly getting on one of his knees to be almost at eye level with you. The air felt suffocatingly thick. You returned his level gaze with a wary, untrusting one, like a wild animal’s.
“I’m John,”
He spoke. His voice felt like a Sunday night bonfire, the whiskers of a cat, and warm ashes still flickering red. It was a bit comforting, and you wondered why until you saw the way his chest was shaking just a little bit.
He was purring.
You hadn’t even known bear hybrids could purr, but as soon as you realized that, you were back on edge. He knew that even if you were fully human, your body would still relax in response to most forms of purring. He was essentially using your body’s natural responses against you.
“And you are?”
He then asked, bright blue eyes watching you. Observing. All of them were, you could feel it. Especially the maybe-wraith, you could practically feel his eyes digging holes into you.
“Y/N.”
You replied. Your voice shook despite your best efforts to keep it level and calm despite the storm of emotions you were experiencing.
You watched as the werewolf almost lunged forward, stopped only by the wraith, who placed one hand on his shoulder, shaking his head, and the wolf let out a low sound that looked like a whine, ears flattening, but the wraith didn’t budge. Strange.
John nodded, getting back up off of his one knee, gesturing to each other members of the pack one by one, the harpy was first.
“This here is Kyle,”
Kyle gave a gentle smile, eyes full of what seemed like empathy for how uncomfortable he must know you are. They probably knew every single thing you were feeling, considering a hybrid’s insanely good sense of smell. His feathery wings puffed up, then resettled in a matter of seconds.
“Here’s Johnny, but we call ‘im Soap.”
The werewolf. You didn’t know why he was nicknamed ‘Soap’, and you didn’t want to know, either. He gave a sheepish smile, pearly whites gleaming.
“And we’ve got Simon, our Ghost.”
The wraith. He gave a small nod, which looking back, was more like a jerk of his head. His eyes were a dark chocolate brown.
You quickly decided that Kyle was your favorite, for now. John was a close second, and Johnny and Simon were on an equal level.
“Kyle, take ‘er to the room while me and the lads have a chat.”
John said, gesturing you over to Kyle, who waved you over, leading you out of the main living room area, and down a hallway to the right. You dragged your feet, curious to hear what John was having a ‘chat’ with the other boys about.
“…need to quit chompin’ at the bit, Soap, making the girl nervous.”
“Cannae help it, she’s so small—“
“You’d better help it, ‘fore I do for you, Johnny.”
The conversation continued, Kyle glancing back, noticing you lingering back, raising a brow with a little knowing smirk.
“C’mon, nosy. We spent a good few hours putting this room together for you.”
Cheeks heating slightly at being called out, you picked up the pace, beat-up sneakers padding against the wooden floor as you followed the large harpy, observing his feathers, most of them being long, a shade of honey brown fading into a warm blonde, shining under the light, shifting into different shades when you changed the angle you were looking at them from. The shorter feathers looked fluffier like they were just growing in.
You saw a pin feather on his right wing, sandwiched between other feathers.
Unable to resist the temptation, you reached for it, fingers gently enclosing on the crackly, thin casing around the feather, pulling, only for his wings to twitch as he whirled, startling both of you, as you held what had been of the pin feather in your hand.
Both of you stood still for a moment before he must’ve realized what happened, letting out a huff of laughter with an amused sigh. His hand reached out, giving you a little pat on the head.
“Thanks, kid. Just ask next time, yeah? My wings are sensitive.”
He said, and you nodded, shock wearing off right as a voice came from down the hallway.
“Everything alright?”
Sounded like John.
“Yup, just having a grooming session.”
Kyle called back, chuckling to himself as he led the way to a doorway, opening the door to reveal a decent-sized room with a bed, a dresser, and a little desk across from the bed. The walls were a light purple. The floor was wood, with a small circular fuzzy carpet in the room.
It looked comfortable.
Kyle stepped out of the way, gesturing for you to enter your room, and you hesitantly stepped in, eyes scanning every square inch. There was a window to the right of your bed, locked, probably.
After it passed whatever mental test you’d conjured up, you walked over to the bed, nose wrinkling in mild distaste at how the bed was set. The blankets were tucked tightly into the mattress, so you yanked them out, before taking the pillow, putting it on the floor, and kicking the absolute life out of it for a few minutes until it was placed back onto the bed.
You then proceeded to plop into the mess of blankets and sheets, pulling the blanket up over you. It was soft and fluffy but not fuzzy.
“She’s nesting-!”
You heard a voice squeak from the entryway, only to see Johnny grinning like a maniac, pushing Kyle out of the way to see into the room. John was behind him, giving an unimpressed flat stare to the excited Scottish man, and Simon was looming behind Kyle, tall enough to see over his wings.
“Humans don’t nest, Soap.”
Kyle said flatly, and Johnny threw him a glare.
“Well, she’s doing whatever the human equivalent to nesting is.”
He retorted, and Simon gave him a look that said he thought he was brain-dead.
“Making the bed?”
He said, and Johnny huffed, getting into it with Simon while you watched from your bed, listening to them argue, until you got sick of it and pulled the blanket over your head, hiding under it.
“How ain’t that nesting—?”
“I make my bed every mornin’. Don’t mean I’m nesting.”
“Can it, both of you.”
They both shut up after the verbal admonishment, John sighing, and a moment later a man approached the bed slowly, making sure you could hear the wood creaking beneath his feet. He didn’t want to surprise you. You made your mental bets between which one it was.
Johnny’s head popped up from under the blanket a few moments later.
“John says I’m not being very hospitable,”
He said, as if he was whining to you, giving a loud, dramatic sigh that you heard John, who seemed to be walking down the hallway now, grumble at. It almost made you laugh, and he must’ve seen the smile pulling at your lips because he grinned big and wide. Only his head remained under the blanket, the rest of his body kneeling beside the bed.
“How about we play a game, hm? Help ya learn the house a lil while Price and Gaz make dinner.”
You paused, before nodding. The house didn’t have too complicated of a layout, you thought. You’d seen what looked like a second floor, maybe there was a basement.
A hand slid under the blanket, calloused and rough, and you promptly ignored it, simply sliding the blanket off. You weren’t there yet, not with any of them. It would take a good while before you started willingly touching.
“How about…tag?”
You shook your head almost immediately at that one, and once he really thought about it, it made sense. No child would want to be chased around by a big hybrid in a place they don’t know.
“Hide n’ seek?”
You didn’t say anything at first, until nodding.
“You wanna hide or seek first?”
“Hide.”
Hiding was essentially the only part you were good at. You didn’t have the nose to sniff out hiders, but you did have plenty of practice hiding, for various reasons. Being a human wasn’t the easiest. You were prey, essentially, easy to be picked off when alone or vulnerable.
Johnny’s big hand tugged the blankets off, getting up off of his knees, gesturing to the doorway where Simon loomed, sharp eyes watching the werewolf, a slight narrowing of them when they both exchanged gazes, silently communicating.
Johnny turned to face the wall once you both got out into the hallway, the door clicking quietly shut while Simon watched.
“I’m gonna start counting, I’ll give ye a good…20, how’s that?”
He asked with a grin, and you nodded. You didn’t know this house other than the hallway, your room, and the main living room in the front, but you were determined to find a good hiding spot. It might’ve been years since you last played hide and seek with someone his age, but you were competitive.
“20, 19….”
You bolted.
Down the hallway, taking a right, seeing a staircase. You decided to go up.
“18, 17…”
A mini-hallway up the stairs. You took your hoodie off as quickly as possible, opening a door and randomly throwing it inside. The scent would probably throw him off.
“16, 15…”
You slid down the stairs, running down the same hallway, taking another turn, moving past the kitchen where John was stirring a pot and Kyle was cutting vegetables. They raised a brow but didn’t comment as you pulled one shoe off, tossing it around a corner.
“14, 13, 12…”
He was speeding up, the cheat.
You took the other shoe off, finding another door to open, this time being a closet, before throwing it in and shutting the door behind you.
“11, 10, 9…”
With three different things to throw the freakishly good nose most werewolves had off, you figured it was time to find a hiding spot. He was in the single digits now.
“8, 7, 6….”
You rounded a corner, finding a door with a different style handle than the others. It was golden and round, older, while the others were silver and slim. You opened it and were met with darkness and a staircase.
You hesitantly descended, the light switch not working.
“5, 4…”
You needed to find a spot. Now.
The scent of laundry detergents hit your nose when you finally reached the bottom, daylight from a small basement window providing the bare minimum of light to let you see. To the right of the stairs, there was a thin little room that was a laundry room.
All the scents would surely mask yours well, too.
“3, 2, 1…”
You heard his muffled voice grow more excited when he was finally close to being able to start his hunt.
You found a shelf next to the wall with a little crawl space underneath the different cleaners it was holding. Flattening your body to the floor, you squirmed under, struggling to breathe for the first few moments until you adjusted.
“Ready or not, here I come!”
He called out, and you heard the creaking of the floorboards under his feet as he stomped around the house, John calling something out you couldn’t hear from down here.
As your eyes adjusted to the darkness, you suddenly noticed a giant spider and her web only a foot from you. Your skin was suddenly crawling, your imagination running wild, and you heard doors opening and closing upstairs.
The first one.
The second.
The third, he must be getting close.
He’d gone through all your distractions. You heard his heavy panting from here, heard the footsteps coming down the rickety old stairs.
He didn’t even try to flick on the switch.
He wouldn’t have to, not with his built-in night vision. The huffing grew louder as you heard his mutt-like sniffing, deep and full. Your skin began to crawl for a different reason, limbs tensing unconsciously.
He was a predator. He had teeth that could shred you within seconds, claws that could rip you open. And then you weren’t under the shelf anymore.
The scent of wet hay and animals surrounded you as the itchy sawdust rubbed at your skin, leaving it red and irritated.
You heard him before your eyes adjusted enough to see him. The furry form, at least three times bigger than your small body, claws dragging against the walls of the wood, teeth gleaming in the full moonlight.
He wasn’t just finding you, he was enjoying this.
Enjoying being able to sniff out your terror, the scent of it soaking through your clothes without you even knowing.
He paused.
The hay crunched beneath his feet as he shifted, taking a deep whiff of the air, a sound coming out of him resembling a crow’s raspy caw, except it sounded like an imitation of laughter coming from his maw.
The hay crunched again. Closer.
You held your breath, silent tears rolling down your cheeks.
A tail swept by, as if he’d somehow not seen you, but then—
“Rah!”
The familiar Scottish lilt to his voice felt all too comforting compared to what you’d just remembered moments earlier. You think you screamed. Your mouth had opened, you just hadn’t heard the noise coming out.
You tried to make sense of it.
Key word, tried.
He must’ve seen how you sniffled, body shaking slightly and breathing unsteady. He noticed. His hand swiped the large spider, which had been crawling ever close while you hadn’t even noticed, away, his other hand going to lift the shelf for you to get out.
“Jus’ a spider, nothin’ to worry about.”
He mumbled with a small chuckle, watching as you scrambled out from under the old shelf, walking over to the stairs without even needing him to lead you around. It seemed you were eager to get out of the dark.
He didn’t blame you.
The stairs creaked behind you as he headed up, swiping some dust that clung to your hair and clothes still. When you opened the basement door after fumbling for the handle for a moment, you were greeted with your shoes and jacket right near the entrance.
“Clever trick ye pulled, never had such a wee little bairn pull ‘at on me.”
He said with a warm chuckle. At least you’d tricked him a little bit. Even if he’d still found you depressingly fast.
You stepped into your shoes, shifting around until your feet were in properly, picking your jacket up and carrying it with you as you stepped to the side, meaning to let Johnny through, only for your back to hit a warm body as you let out a noise of surprise, whipping your body around as you flinched and jumped nearly a foot back.
It was Simon, who didn’t react much, other than a subtle tilt of his head. His eyes narrowed as he looked you over, looking as if he knew something was off.
Johnny raised a brow at the silent staring contest between you and the wraith, shutting the basement door behind him as Gaz’s voice called for them.
“Dinner!”
Simon gave you one last glance, before turning and walking to the table. Johnny flashed you a sympathetic grin.
“Don’ be scared of the brute, he’s really a sweetie underneath it all, just gotta get used to ye is all.”
He said, a bit quieter as if not wanting Simon to overhear. You watched him walk away, having a feeling he heard every word, and that he heard a lot more than he let on.
Johnny tried to place a hand on your back which you jerked away from, murmuring an apology as you followed him to the kitchen. The game of hide and seek helped you learn the layout of the house, but it would still take a while to fully memorize.
The smell of something delicious, namely potatoes and some form of meat and barbecue, reached your nose as Kyle pulled a chair out for you, setting his hat on the seat to your right to claim it, Johnny sitting across from you. Simon’s seat was on one end of the table, and you assumed Price’s seat was on the other end.
It was some form of pot roast, you quickly learned, bowls being passed around the table with napkins and silverware. A glass full of water was put near your plate. The rest of them settled for tea except Johnny. Kyle put a spoonful of sugar and a small container of cream in his tea, mixing it neatly in. Simon drank the tea black. John put half a container of cream in, mixing it in and taking a long drink.
Johnny settled for a can of orange soda the others called ‘pop’.
John put his hands together, bowing his head and closing his eyes in a gesture of prayer. Simon didn’t. Johnny poorly mimicked John, clearly more interested in his food. Kyle mumbled something under his breath on his own, digging into his food right after.
You’d been in houses with religion before. It wasn’t as surprising as it had been at first, with the different concepts of prayer and gods and everything that came with it. You just didn’t know exactly what to do.
You looked around the table, John praying, Kyle eating quickly but nearly, and Johnny quickly mumbling under his breath. Simon was the only one eating slowly, taking his time. Probably because of the scar that ran over his lips, leaving a bit of his canine exposed.
He didn’t get the chance to eat fast.
You accidentally locked eyes with him, unsure of what to do. It felt rude to stare, but you couldn’t just back down from the silent challenge in his brown eyes, seeming to dare you to keep looking, assuming you wouldn’t.
He’d watched your eyes dart around, a look he’d seen too many times before. You didn’t know what to do.
He paused, still not breaking eye contact as he slowly blinked, scarred fingers closing around his glass as he raised it to meet halfway between you two. It took you a few seconds to realize what he was doing, brows furrowed in confusion before releasing with realization as you picked your glass up, lifting it to clink against his.
The sound brought both Johns out of their prayers, John chuckling as he raised his glass, Johnny and Kyle soon to follow.
“To our new little bugger.”
Simon muttered, brown eyes glittering with mirth as he glanced down at you, lips twitching almost up.
And as the rest of them filled the space with chatter and words, you thought that maybe, even if it wasn’t always easy or comfortable at first, you could be happy here.
Maybe.

(blame @devil-in-hiding for my continued obsession with himbo!johnny)
cw: smut (minors—DNI), reader is afab and uses she/her
himbo!johnny lives in muscle tees and 5 inch inseam shorts, loves nothing more than to show as much skin and muscles as he can. not because he likes other people staring but because he likes how flustered in makes you
always has his hair mussed up into his messy mohawk, but he usually leaves it free of product when it’s just a weekend-in with you because he likes feeling your fingers brushing through it (and maybe because he remembers the first time you saw his unstyled hair and you called him “the prettiest boy” and it made him so hard)
openly refers to himself as “your good boy” and beams with pride because of it. does not hesitate to introduce himself to people with that title because where other men would be embarrassed, johnny has the most shit eating grin
you’re the ceo of your own company and absolutely dread bringing johnny to company functions because of what happened last time (“m’sorry we were a wee late tonight—the missus promised i’d get a taste ‘fore we left”). you were so mortified and quickly ushered johnny to the restroom, where you proceeded to, instead of giving him the lecture and stern warning you meant to, were draped unceremoniously against the porcelain sink and had his tongue trying to worm its way to your cervix
himbo!johnny also always calls you ma’am. like yes ma’am/no ma’am is INGRAINEDDDD into him. you want him to open a jar for you? yes ma’am. you want him to shut the fuck up and listen to you for two fucking seconds? yes ma’am. you need his dick to ride on? yes ma’am, right away ma’am. like even uses it in public, when you ask him to go get you a drink at one of your company events he’s kissing your temple gently and whispering a “yes ma’am” under his breath. and you try and tell him it makes you feel like a old woman when he says it but he’s pouting up at you and saying “nae, tha’s nae what i meant, lass—say it ‘cause i respect you s’much. wanna be respectful when ‘m talkin’ to ya”

You’re kept behind Johnny’s back as you both exit the treeline, and you feel yourself quivering with unease.
What would Lord Wilkin do to you? Drag you back? As the shelter of the trees leaves you, you tighten your grip on the blacksmith’s tunic, breathing out a shaky puff of air. Cobalt eyes look back at you, trying to reassure you as the first calls start up from the guards.
Johnny whispers out, his accent deep. “It’s gonna be just fine.”
“She’s here!”
Hounds dash forward but with a sharp bark of, “Get back!” They skid along the dewy grass and halt with rabid barks instead, fur bristled and spittle flying. The men surge forward, and you gasp as they grapple at Johnny’s arms.
One tries to snatch at the neck of your cloak, but a strong arm traps the armored wrist and twists it sideways, snapping the bone as you stare wide-eyed as the guard screams; jerking back and stumbling to his knees. With a fluid motion, Johnny grasps the handle of the downed guard’s sword as he writhes with agony, unsheathing the blade and laying it upon the breast of the other with a dim call.
He glowers and glares, eyes like burning coals.
“I suggest you step back,” you watch, holding your breath from over his shoulder as the blacksmith leans closer to the man, one arm kept behind him and resting on your hip. “‘Fore this gets bloody.” The guard raises his hands and backs up quickly, fear splashing his eyes.
All of the others watch nervously from the sidelines, either reigning in steeds or holding their hands to the pommels of their weapons. Waiting.
You swallow the saliva in your throat and ask, quietly, “Are you alright?”
“Don’t twist your head about me,” Johnny reassures, eyes traveling around the homestead as the guards shuffle and share glances. The Scot grits his teeth and tries to think of a way out of this.
If you had run, just as the man had anticipated, they would have caught up in no time.
The clop of hooves from your left draws both of yours’ attention in a quick succession of perked heads and pounding hearts. You feel your blood drop to pool in your feet at the face that meets you. Johnny growls and shoves you farther into his shadow as Lord Wilkin comes closer with a horse of bay coat, decorated with all the finery of his station. Gold, great coat with an embroidered tunic, and riding boots. Strapped at his waist was a dagger encrusted with gems made of blood and diamonds.
Never mind all that wealth, he looked ugly and cruel to you—a glint of arrogance in his eye. You glare and grit your teeth, rage coming off in waves from Johnny as well as yourself.
Wilkin’s old face is the same you remember smirking down at you as he drove the ceremonial blade into your palm, and your entire hand flinches in memory, digging your nails into the Scot’s waist.
He puffs a sound of reassurance but otherwise doesn’t move an inch from in front of you.
“And who might this be holding my bride hostage?” The Lord’s voice is sly. Black eyes dart up and down Johnny’s form and the man you latch to has to restrain a rabid grunt of anger. Stay his molten tongue. A blacksmith?”
“It’s MacTavish, to you,” Johnny calls, tone dead and laced with danger. Your body restrains a shiver as his warm skin sinks into you; the memory of his lips on yours is addictive, even now. “Be best for you to remember it, eh? Considerin’ I’m the one who supplies your fucking guards with arms.”
Lord Wilkin utterly ignores him, his gaze sliding to you halfway through his sentence. You stay silent, lungs tight inside of your ribs. The unfortunate truth was that Johnny still had more standing here than you did, anything that you said would come up as null and void; in fact, it would be better to be completely mute.
But with how the Lord was looking at you, your teeth had to bite into your lip to silence yourself. You had to come up with a way out of this. Soon.
“Take my bride away from this brute. Chain him.” Wilkin hides a smirk, pulling at his steed’s reigns to shift the beast away with a snort and a flick of a dark tail. “I want his head on the block in the town square by tomorrow. I have a wedding to finalize.”
“Let the fires of hell go cold if I go anywhere with you,” you say, stepping out slightly from behind Johnny, much to his hesitation, but still, he watches over you and lets you do as you please. The blacksmith would rather not have this Lord’s eyes anywhere near you if he’s being honest with himself.
This Scot had made you bold—his words gave finality. If he said nothing would happen to you, you believed him. Perhaps that made you foolish, but his word meant far more than anyone else. Johnny kept his promises.
Lord Wilkin’s horse is jerked to a stop, its head snapping back and forth with a frothing mouth. His eyes travel back and a slow sneer pulls at his lips, sitting under a mustache of white hair. You restrain a cringe, and Johnny barks an order to the advancing guards to stay back as his large feet set themselves.
“If they grab me,” he mutters, speaking over his shoulder, “run, Little Lady. I’ll be sure to give you an opening.”
Your eyes widen in shock and horror, but before you can answer, your husband-to-be calls to you. The Blacksmith’s expression is the picture of defense as he angles the sword in his grip at the far-off Lord when even the barest hint of his tone indicates you.
A low grunt was ringing in his throat like that of an animal—as if the bear fur inside of the house had come to life and was a shield of muscle and iron shavings.
Your eyes blink, and something begins forming in your head, but it’s gone before you can really grasp it.
“My Lady,” Lord Wilkin states, his guards taking up places beside him, glaring. The hounds have still not gone silent, and Johnny eyes them nervously. “I believe you’ve been overcome by some…” He grumbles and gnashes his teeth in rage. “Spell of disobedience. I’ll have a physician examine you and keep you in my home for a stay of recovery—”
“The lady said she’s not goin’ with you,” Johnny seethes, pupils slits. Your hand rests on his back, spread over the swell of his broadness as you feel his pulse. Hot and racing. “So pack the fuck up and scatter! And take the bloody mutts with you!”
You spare a worried glance at the back of his head. The blacksmith can’t possibly believe that threatening them will make Wilkin pull back, and when he meets your eyes, you know he doesn’t just by the wrinkles by the sides of his lids.
He’s nervous, shifting his feet in small increments to try and push you nearer to the tree line. Your body hardens.
You’ve already made your mad dash—there was no more running. Certainly not if your new center of affection and protective build wasn’t coming with you.
Wilkin raises a brow. “Quite demanding for the man surrounded…Woman!” You flinch at the sudden shout, the quick rage of his snapping head, and the quick switch. Johnny glares and his hands are strangling the hilt of the sword, white and held still. The Lord barks, “Your parents gained valuable gifts for your well-bred hand—would you enjoy them being taken away? I can do so.” Dark eyes sweep over you. A smirk. “Forget this spark of madness and consummate what you know to be done.”
Johnny lunges with a snarl, eyes burning with horrible anger and the intent to cut the head off the snake. The guards meet him as he yells to you, “Run, Dearie!”
But your feet are stone.
When the man realizes you’re going nowhere without him, his eyes gain a sheen of panic as his blade clashes with sparks of steel with another. A dance of feet and wit that speaks to years of careful study; practice from both parties. Wilkin looks smug as Johnny lets off a loud curse and has to turn his attention back to the fight.
“Seems the woman’s come to her senses. Praise God, perhaps there’s hope for her yet.” You breathe heavily, hands clenched under your cloak. Your mind wished for a dagger—one to show this pathetic excuse of a man how much it hurt to try and have someone mark you for the pleasure of ownership. Like some common branded cow.
Wilkin nods to you as Johnny gazes on in horror, narrowly dodging a swipe at his side before he elbows a guard in the face, splaying him out along the ground in a heap of leather and fabric.
“What are you doing?” He yells, voice booming out over the forest. You don’t look at him before you suck down a breath and steady your nerves; standing taller and setting back your shoulders.
The trained grace that had been shoved down your throat on a silver platter came back easily. Forks and spoons sliding under your teeth, all engraved with images depicting holy scenes of sanctity while the blood of your flesh spills at the poke of thorns sitting on your head. A halo of bloody martyrdom.
A tool.
You can be a tool, you decide, flinching when Johnny’s body is tackled to the ground; form ricochetting as he growls and writhes. His sword clatters to the ground. They have him in binds, cheek shoved into the dirt, and great shackles that skirt the line between animal and human restraint. A guard’s hand forces his face deeper into the earth and Johnny bellows, ordering with wild eyes, “Run, dammit! Get out of here!”
Sending a stiff glance, you stare blankly into cobalt eyes and blink away just as quickly, standing and staring down Lord Wilkin as he watches in contentment at the scene of the raging blacksmith and his seemingly placated bride. At the twitch of his lips, you raise your voice high.
“Release him.” Dark eyes turn to slits before they slowly slither back to you.
“Pardon?” You grit your teeth and feel Johnny glaring, a snarl ripping out of his mouth as he coughs through the grass.
“Dearie, no!” A punch hits his stomach as he’s jerked up to his feet and attacked; chains rattling as hounds bay for blood. You sense your gut roll with bile as Johnny fights back—tree-like legs laying a kick square into one's abdomen.
The two guards hang onto his arms, shouting at each other to try and restrain him further.
“I ask my husband-to-be to release the man that graciously gave me shelter during the storm,” staring hard, you’re trying to stop yourself from running to Johnny. You know you have nothing to help him with—it would be pointless and utterly stupid.
Your brow raises, but a nervous twinge is still in your voice. “Does My Lord not take pride in the fact that the men of his fiefdom are so open to taking in those less fortunate than themselves?”
Wilkin’s cheeks go tight, skin pulling as the eyes of the free guards travel to him. The struggle gradually dies down across the way; cobalt eyes darting back and forth with panic.
“Don’t bloody do what I think you’re doin’!”
A trade would happen, but only for a moment. In your head, you were whipping past possibilities and scenarios. There was something on the cusp of discovery—so close to giving you the upper hand, but what was it? Like a thorn in your foot, you continue to walk over it; ready and willing.
Johnny had your back last night, it was time you had his.
“Let the honorable blacksmith go,” you level. “And name your price.”
The response is immediate. A flashing smirk. “Deal. I’ll take my bride back, just as was intended.”
“No!” Johnny’s tunic is all ripped up, tears from gripping hands only making the damage larger—nail scrapes along his hardened flesh from the guard’s ruthless hold. Skin white from the force.
If you look at him, you’ll lose your mind.
Under your cloak, your hands shake as Wilkin descends his horse, coming closer.
“Keep your fuckin’ bastard hands off of ‘er!”
Think. His footsteps march closer—thin and sly-looking like a sharp-eyed Egret. Think!
Before his hand can snap at your wrist your mind sparks in a panicked moment, and you’re exclaiming with a loud voice before you can stop yourself or think the sentence through. You stutter at first but quickly gain your footing.
“I-In good faith, I cannot accept—I am unfaithful to you, Lord!”
The entire homestead goes still, and those struggling with Johnny’s binds freeze. Lord Wilkin goes confused, his wrinkled visage peeling in like a rotted corpse. But no faces are quite as good as the blacksmith’s, who goes so pale and wide-eyed before he can school himself in secrecy; his jaw loose. His heart pounds in his breast, shreds of tunic waving in the wind. You continue with utter conviction, so much so that you even start to believe the lie you’ve crafted with a swift mind. “See the evidence upon the blacksmith’s sheets—where we lay last night in the throes of lust; I am no longer a pure bride.” Breaths get caught in throats; eyes bugging to a nonsensical degree. You swear someone choke. Your face burns as you continue, faking a shameful falling of your chin.
“I cannot marry you!” It’s almost enough to break you, the realization on Johnny’s expression as he darts his vision to your hand—which you hide inside your cloak; wrapped around your waist with false fear. Blood on your hand.
Blood on the sheets.
“It would be shameful to do so, do you not understand? I am not but a used good.” Fake or not, the last comment still makes Johnny’s hands clench his jaw working itself with a restrained growl.
But pride furrows his brow. A smirk was forced back from his lips.
You just took away what Wilkin loves more than anything else—control.
The older man halts, his mouth going agape and a vile sheen coming to his cheeks. He stutters, “I...what?” It’s a violent snarl, but the man balks back from you as if you’re infected. “You dare lie to me, Girl? Play off this fallacy?”
“It’s no lie,” you say, gaining confidence with how Johnny watches you closely, only once rumbling at the guards that hold him when they tighten their grip. “The evidence is plain as day in the Blacksmith’s bed.”
Wilkin’s eyes flash, and he barks an order to one of his men to enter the main house. Only when his dark eyes are off of you do you spare a look at Johnny.
You sag softly, shoulders losing some tension.
Blue eyes lock with yours, firm. Sending an apologetic squint of your eyes, the man only slightly shakes his head, mouthing out, “Don’t worry your little head about it.” A quick, barely-there smile flashes his lips—but then you have to look away before you let the shaking of your body be known. No matter how hard you plead with your muscles to stop vibrating, they do so instinctually.
You know what lying about this will cost you, successfully or not. You’d be labeled for the rest of your life; separate. But Johnny’s eyes on you ease the pain. Lets you breathe. If the worst thing that could happen to you was living out your life in his homestead and being at his side, then perhaps social execution was the only thing that pleased you at the moment.
You just hoped that it didn’t lead to an actual execution.
“Lord!” The guard returns as Johnny continues to watch you, panting, with sweat dripping down his chin. His ribs hurt something awful, but he only glowered at the men holding him and stayed his violent tongue to let you work your strengths like fine iron wrought in the fire of his hearth.
Wilkin’s lackey was hurriedly carting the length of the Blacksmith’s sheets behind him—clutching in his fist the vibrant red stain of your blood and displaying it to the light. Thinking about what they saw it as, instead of your wound opening, you cringe and restrain a sound of disgust.
Even being around Johnny for as little time as you had, despite the kiss and infatuation, you had forgotten how crude the rest of these men could be. It’s like this sanctuary of trees and dew-soaked ground was in an entirely different world, and these intruders were wrecking it. By Johnny’s face, he felt the exact same.
Half of the Scot wanted to save your honor and tell them you were lying, but the desperation of the situation was far more serious than that. He couldn’t let you go back to Wilkin—he’d promised. So Johnny took down a tight breath and stayed silent; face burning and glaring at the ground with clenched fists shaking for blood.
The guards holding his arms slightly release their grip, listening intently themselves.
Blanking, the Lord’s eyes lock onto the stain as the man brings him the fabric. Not a moment later his hand snaps out to drag it to his face, looking daggers into the redness as his eyes snap from place to place.
“...You did this on purpose,” the slow dead tone takes you aback, hands around your abdomen digging further into your flesh as a dread spills into your stomach with blossoming unease.
“M-my Lord?” Johnny tenses, eyes sharp like a wolf.
“You did this so you could spite me, you little,” the encrusted dagger is unsheathed from its scabbard. “Whore!”
“Shut the fuck up!” The blacksmith bursts with wrath, jerking forward so violently that he drags the guards holding him along the ground, their calls of alarms making the hounds go ballistic.
You take a small step back as Wilkin gets nearer to you—the point of the blade setting itself right under your chin; tilting your head up. Breath going tight, you stare with wide eyes and a pounding heart.
He wouldn’t kill you…would he?
The Lord’s eyes are brimstone and deeper than Hell, holding sinners in the bars of his pupils while devils of brown specks prod the pool of obsidian. If a man could be on fire and still be living, Wilkin was an inferno incarnate.
“You belong to me,” he grits his teeth as Johnny’s voice blurs in the background, having to be forced to his knees by three men yet still nearly throttling one with the force of his arms. “I paid for you.”
“Then you should find it a lost investment,” you shakily reply, not knowing how you have the strength to stare into Wilkin’s eyes. But you do. You stare and you hold your hands tight into your flesh until the skin under your gifted fabric aches. A small prick of the blade makes you suck in a tight inhalation, a tiny droplet of crimson sneaking down your throat.
It’s a battle of wills, and before you say what you’re thinking, you’re nearly sure that in less than three seconds you’ll be grasping a slit throat.
You clear your throat softly and speak in a dim whisper. “How will your guards react to you killing a woman in anger?” Expressions freeze. “What does God say about that?” You swallow, throat bobbing. Hit him where it hurts. “...What would the townspeople say? Mercy is not above our great Lord, that is an earthly prospect. I believed that was your greatest quality, is that not what everyone believes?”
Wilkin stares, his mustache twitching. Dead face. Dead eyes.
It’s a long, long moment before anything else happens, and when it does, you flinch.
The dagger disappears from your chin and you instantly back up several steps, breathing unevenly. Pointedly, you place your uninjured hand on your slowly dripping skin.
Johnny’s taken down three of the guards, their faces bloody and your blacksmith’s nose broken. He yells and screams curses. You feel your heart constrict at the sight, pain zooming down your veins in bursts of adrenaline, but it’s seconds later that Wilkin speaks, loudly so that everyone can hear.
“I would never harm a woman,” you hold back a violent scoff as your hands shake, wanting to be taken into Johnny’s arms now more than ever—feel his heat and inhale his scent. Wrapped in a blanket of steel and ash. “In my good graces, I will pray for your salvation, Miss. But being soiled—”
“Bloody piss off!” You send Johnny a quick glance at the outburst. He’s forced back face-first into the ground with a grunt and sputtering of grass in his mouth.
“I no longer wish to be joined with you in holy matrimony. It would be dishonorable to my station.” Dark eyes swim with hatred, but the tone of his voice is easy and pliable. The Lord was a good fake—he plasters on an appeasing smile for his men and waves a quick hand in the air as he turns to his horse. “Release the brute. Let the pair roll in their sin of carnal desire. God will be their judge.”
Johnny struggles as they unlock his chains, but the second he’s out he’s springing full-force towards you; his skin sliding across your cloak as you’re guarded far better than any loyal hound or King might be.
“Johnny,” you grapple at his biceps, sighing raggedly in relief. He doesn’t brush you off, only curling his side around you and angling his head to the mounted horses; pupils slits and lungs heaving. His nose looks awful. “Don’t, don’t,” you plead, “It’s over.”
The man doesn't respond, looking feral as his hair goes this way and that; coiled around your body about to strike at anything that comes close.
“I’ll kill him,” Johnny grunts. “I’ll rip his damn throat out for speakin’ to you like that—for puttin’ a knife to your throat. I’ll rip him into bloody bits and pieces, you just say the word, Little Lady.”
Your arms encase the one of his you’re holding, dragging the limb to your chest. Cobalt eyes dart back to your face. It’s a long moment, but his expression softens slightly—the wrinkles beside his eyes easing while his lips twitch down. Blood drips off his lower face, spread around his under eyes, and stains his stubble with crimson gore.
“Please,” you mutter.
He looks down and nods stiffly, even if he doesn’t like it.
The horses are rallied, the hounds called, and with a throw of dirt from their hooves the convoy is off. Silence returns in slow increments of nothingness.
Wind, the call of a bird, and the babble of a far-off stream echo through the pines. Only when they’re entirely out of sight and the dust has cleared that Johnny swiftly moves, picking you up into his arm. You squeak as he carries you speedily into the main house, rushing to place your backside on the table.
His large hands immediately tilt your head up to spy the tiny mark from Wilkin’s blade, and you feel his shuttered breath against your throat as you go heated.
“J-Johnny, what are you…” But you don’t get an answer, the man disappearing before coming back with a wetted rag. Once more, the man cleans your wounds with delicate presses of the cloth—ridding you of all blood.
His jaw is clenched, and as you watch, your hand in your lap twitches.
In a broken act of pain, you lightly run your fingertips over the swelling of his nose. The man stops, but serious eyes stick to your throat—unable to meet your gaze; there’s a red sheen to his neck and ears. Anger or embarrassment, you know not.
“I’m so sorry,” you whisper, guilty, and his widened gaze rips itself to lock with yours. Your vision blurs, afraid to touch him fully as if it might burn him.
“No,” he’s shaking his head. “No, you never tell me that. What you did, Dearie…I,” Johnny stutters, closing his mouth before opening it again. “I should be apologizing to you. It wasn’t fair to make you do that. Any of it.”
A wobbly smile flicks your lips.
“Are you saying I should have left you?” Johnny moves his face farther into your hand, blood contaminating your skin but you don’t pull away. You let him sag into your palm instead, reveling in the scrape of his stubble against your soft hands.
“I’d not see you harmed,” is all he answers.
You sigh and blink away your tears, stealing the man’s rag so you can dab at the bloody nostrils. Johnny’s pulse is still fast under you—like the pound of his hammer.
“Well,” his eyes dig into yours and you smile. “I believe my priorities are the same. I may have only met you yesterday, but I’ve grown quite fond of you.”
“Aye, well, everyone will know how fond soon enough.” He’s more worried about this than you are, a stubborn and almost grumbly tone to his words.
“Is my purity that much of a sore point for you?” You can’t help but tease him, even in the circumstances. “I had no idea.”
His face goes more crimson than his own blood, and he blinks at you rapidly.
“I…That isn’t what I…” You chuckle gently and press your forehead to his, whispering.
“I was just joking.” He sags with relief, his hands coming up to rest on your hips with the care of a man unbefitting to his station. Again, you have to ask yourself how an individual so intimidating can be, at the same instance, kind and generous.
His lips mutter, brows tight. “Are ya sure you’re alright, Hen?”
You think, wondering about the run through the forest when this all began, the plea for shelter. Such a deep coincidence that you’d end up here—perhaps the most safe place in the entire fiefdom. Everything had lined up perfectly, barring a few bumps in the road. You doubted Wilkin will mess with this place after the spreading of your ‘promiscuous’ behavior.
He was too sly for outright violence if given the option.
“Yes,” you know, and thin your lips. “What about your nose? A-and everything else?”
“Don’t think about it,” the Scot smiles, eyes still glinting with worry. So many hours and you’d barely gotten any sort of break. “I just want you to rest, then, eh?”
Maybe it was outwardly obvious, but the entire ordeal had left you drained; shaky, and still coming off of panic. What if they had killed Johnny…?
You’d go back to Wilkin and live as his wife, producing heirs and locked away in his estate for the remainder of your life. What kind of existence was that? No, you knew, you’d never live like that.
You’d never live like that here.
With a shaky breath, you watch Johnny’s eyes flash with concern for a moment by your silence, but before he can speak you’re pressing your lips to his in a firm and honest kiss—sinking in every emotion you could.
The man grunts in surprise, but doesn’t move back; if anything, his grip on your hips increases, sliding up to your waist.
After a moment of tasting flesh, you pull back and whisper, “Thank you.”
Johnny breathes heavily, a glimmer in his blues, “Well,” he grumbles, “I’d say you did most of the work.”
You both share a chuckle before you’re lifted again, carried gently over to the bed without sheets. You’re placed atop the bear fur and wrapped in that instead after your cloak is unclipped and folded neatly, set on the floor. Outside, the call of a far-off storm hits your ears and you blink to the window.
“Stay with me?” You ask before you can stop yourself or can even think.
The blacksmith’s breath catches, his fingers flinching as they were pulling the fur tighter around your neck.
It’s a moment before he asks in a quiet tone.
“You sure you want this, Dearie?” His lips go tight, eyes narrowing in inner conflict. You stare and already know the answer just by how he speaks to you. “I’m no King. I…I can’t give you fine jewelry or fancy clothes. There’ll be no grand suppers beyond the game I catch or what I can afford to buy. Long winters.”
The air goes quiet with worship, and your eyes go wide with care. His broken nose is crooked, but it doesn’t seem to bother him at all. You wonder if that was for your sake or his.
“I’m not someone worthy of your beauty,” he rubs at the back of his head, bending down by the edge of the bed. “Certainly not your smarts. I’m only a blacksmith, Little Lady.”
“Only?” You huff a chuckle. Johnny looks at you in confusion as the black clouds outside roll in, seen through the window of this quaint and lovely home. The hearth is warm, the scent of food still in the air, and the memory of a dash through the forest behind you.
“If you’re only a blacksmith, Mr. MacTavish,” you’re sent a fake stern look as the back of a hand goes to brush your cheek. You shiver. “Then I’m only a runaway bride.”
“Aye,” Johnny admits with a growing smile of adoration, “but still a bonnie one, at that.”
“...Stay with me?” You ask again.
The man breathes out, “Tell me why.”
“The trees do not deny what they need to make them whole, Blacksmith,” you whisper. “Why should I?”
He’s clambering under the fur, wrecked clothes, and blood on his face but never feeling more whole. Is so little a time enough to fall in love with someone? What deity had tied your souls together so soon with ribbon soaked in rainwater—tinged with blood?
His lips meet yours as you sigh into him, hands gripping his arms as they circle your waist tightly. Johnny breathes you in and lets his hands span your back, fingertips digging into your clothes. Into his mouth, you whine a plea for him to keep you close and hold you tight. It’s all your need from him. It’s all you want.
For the wise know best: there is nothing better than a simple life.

Training for Two
Chapter 5. Back to Square One
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masterlist
Summary: Simon's rapidly growing obsession with you comes to a halt.
Warnings: obsessive behavior, cursing, slight nsfw
Tumblr media
The drive back to Simon's house was quiet and dark. Price had turned on the radio, letting classic rock play quietly in the background. He tapped the steering wheel every so often, humming to whatever lyrics he could remember.
Simon sat in the passenger seat, staring at the cars ahead, occasionally glancing at the signs that whizzed by the truck. Each sign that brought him closer to home made him ache. He thought about his bed. He thought about Riley. And, of course, he thought about you. He knew you most likely wouldn't be there - it was after midnight. But he liked to imagine that you'd be waiting there, sitting on his couch with your book and mug of tea, Riley settled next to you, ready to greet him with your smile - the smile that he'd been thinking about in every stolen moment during the mission.
"Alright there, Simon?" Price cut through the silence, dragging Simon back to earth.
He cleared his throat. "Yes sir. Jus' ready to be back."
Price scoffed. He knew Simon didn't consider his house a home. If anything, it was a safe house between missions. "I'm sure Riley will be happy to see you."
"We'll see about that." Simon said with a chuckle. "This dog-sitter might've stolen her from me."
"Nah, she's yours. Been with 'er through it all." Price said as he turned into Simon's neighborhood. "I'm sure she enjoyed the company, though."
Simon grunted. "Seems like it." He said, remembering the picture you had sent him; the way Riley had cozied up to you, the way she seemed so docile and calm in your presence. He imagined you running your fingers through her fur, the perfect ratio of scratching to gentle pets. He wondered what it would feel like on his scalp...
A shiver ran down his spine. How does one become jealous of their own damn dog? It was ridiculous.
"Speaking of the dog-sitter..." Price said, "Johnny mentioned she's a real-"
"Whatever Johnny told you, you can disregard." Simon grumbled. "I told him not to worry 'bout it."
Price chuckled, which made Simon burn with frustration. "Touchy subject, eh?"
"There's nothing to discuss." He replied bitterly. Quite frankly, he didn't like the picture Soap had managed to paint of him. His entire team thought he was whipped by someone he had barely known. Despite it being entirely true, it was the complete opposite of the image he had built of himself - and he had a reputation to keep.
"Right." Price nodded. Simon could tell he didn't believe him, but as long as he didn't try to pester him anymore about it, Simon would take it as a win.
Price pulled into the driveway, and Simon immediately unbuckled. He reached into the back and grabbed his duffel bag, then yanked his door open and got out.
"Y' know this isn't over." Price said, right before Simon could close the door. "We most likely 'ave a week 'fore we get sent out again. Just don't get too comfortable 'ere."
"Never do." Simon replied, shouldering his bag. "I'll wait for your call."
Price nodded, sending Simon off with a wave. He watched as he closed the passenger door and walked up the path to his house, before pulling out of the driveway and heading towards his own home.
Simon sighed as he fished his keys from his pocket. He heard Riley barking on the other side of the door, and a small smile formed on his face. When he pushed it open, she immediately jumped on him, whining and sniffing him all over. He knew she could smell the others on him, and probably wondered why he didn't bring her this time.
"Hey, girl..." he said, yanking his balaclava off and kneeling down to ruffle her fur. "Sorry I's gone so long. Miss me?"
She stood her front paws on his knees and licked his face, still whining and swinging her tail rapidly.
"Yeah, missed you too." He chuckled. "D'ya have fun? Did she treat you right?"
Riley dropped down to the floor as Simon stood. She turned towards his duffel bag and began sniffing, eyes focused on the fabric as she took in all the new and familiar scents.
Simon sighed. "'Bout time for a proper cuppa." He said, making his way into the kitchen. Despite it nearing one in the morning, it would be a while before he was decompressed enough to fall asleep.
He reached into the cupboard for a mug, ignoring the way his back popped. When he placed the mug down and reached for a teabag, he saw a note on the counter. With a furrowed brow, he picked it up and read it.
Hello Simon!
Hope your deployment was fun good! Riley and I had a blast! She learned how to play dead - if you want to try it, just make sure to give her a biscuit for it (she's only had one today, and she was a bit bitter that I left before giving her a second one). Also, she's had her medicine for the day. I gave her last dose around 9 pm.
Can't wait to spend more time with her, but I'm sure she's happy to see her dad! Let me know when you need me next!
Have a nice evening!
P.S. I had to use your washing machine, I hope that was alright. I got a bit muddy trying to teach her the new trick.
He stared at the note for a good amount of time. His eyes wandered over your meticulously neat handwriting. He noticed how often you liked to use exclamation points - the same way you did in your texts and emails. It made him annoyed - but not with you. He was annoyed that he found it... adorable. He shouldn't. You were too bright and happy; your personality should burn him, not warm him up.
He tried to brush it off, blaming his obervant behaviour on the recent mission. Old habits die hard, he lied to himself.
"Riley, c'mere."
Upon hearing her name, Riley meandered into the kitchen and stopped in front of Simon. She sat on her hind legs and looked at him expectantly.
He looked back at her - he felt a bit silly, commanding a retired veteran dog to do simple party tricks. But, it sounded like you put a lot of effort into teaching her this - not to mention, you had somehow dirtied your clothes over it - so he decided to entertain the idea.
"Play dead." He said firmly.
Riley immediately flopped down onto her back, sticking her paws into the air. She even let her tongue hang out of her mouth to really sell the image.
He felt an immediate rush of pride. "Atta girl..." he praised, kneeling down and patting her affectionately. Despite all the annoyance he felt a moment ago, Simon couldn't stop the smile from creeping onto his face.
She twisted and sat up, snuffling and groaning as he rubbed her fur. She barked once, sharp and demanding.
"Yeah, yeah- suppose you deserve a biscuit, huh?" He stood up and grabbed the box of peanut butter and bacon treats, fishing one out and tossing it to Riley. She caught it perfectly, crunching it with an open mouth and licking her lips afterwards.
He watched her with a smile, his arms folded over his chest. Sure, tricks were dumb, something only glorified house pets did for small rewards. But he was impressed that Riley had so effortlessly followed a new command, especially after being out of work for so long. And he was warmed by the fact that, not only did you watch her, but you engaged with her. He was confident he'd found the perfect pet-sitter.

After starting a load of laundry, Simon had taken a cold shower. He scrubbed his eyeblack off with nothing but his hands and the generic body wash from the corner store. He slathered some of his 3-in-one hair gel into his scalp, giving it no more than seven scrubs before rinsing it out. He stood there for a while, letting the water beat against his sore back as the details of the previous mission swarmed throughout his head. He picked apart what he could have done better, what had nearly gotten him killed, and what had probably saved his life.
His eyes flickered to the corner of the tub; there was a cluster of travel-sized bottles, labeled "face wash", "body butter", and so forth. He let himself imagine - who was he kidding, he had no control over his thoughts when it came to you - your body, standing under the stream of the shower. You probably liked hot showers, didn't you? You most likely stayed in there for an hour, going through your meticulous routine, lathering yourself in scented soaps and creams... you'd be appalled if you had seen the three-minute showers he takes, wouldn't you? Maybe you would pull him into your routine, once Simon did eventually get the balls to ask you out, despite how much the thought of being romantic with someone made him scoff. He'd let you wash his face, or shave his balls, or do whatever it is you would do to him.
He suddenly snapped out of his trance, realizing he was holding one of the bottles labeled "conditioner". His thumb was on the edge of the cap, ready to flip it open and take a whiff of the scent - but he quickly stopped himself. He put the bottle back with the rest, then splashed cold water over his face. Quit being a fuckin' creep... he thought.
After turning the shower off and drying himself with a towel, he went into his room and grabbed a pair of sweatpants. He made his way back into the basement, patting Riley on the back as he passed her by the door. He pulled his laundry out and placed it on top of the washing machine, and opened the dryer. Just as he was getting ready to toss his clothes in, he noticed something hiding in the back of the barrel of the machine.
He reached in and pulled it out - it was your flannel. The same green-and-grey one you'd been wearing during your interview.
He paused for a moment, posture rigid as he held the fabric in the air. He wasn't quite sure what to do with it. It was just a flannel... but it was your flannel. He fought with his muscles, resisting the urge to bring it closer and inhale the scent - he tried to reason with himself. Maybe she used my soap, and it would just smell like my detergent. Nothin' special.
He dropped it on top of the dryer, still wrinkly and warm - but, strangely, that felt too rude. It's a fucking piece of clothing, for Christ's sake... he thought. Not her dead nan. He then attempted to hang it on the rack, but that felt too formal. He groaned, rubbing his eyes with irritation. How something so insignificant was causing him so much turmoil was beyond him.
He ended up bringing it back upstairs. Riley sniffed the fabric as he passed her - she thumped her tail eagerly on the floor as she smelled your scent. Once again, Simon was jealous of the dog being able to act so carefree with you - he knew for sure that if he tried sniffing your flannel, he would be a certified creep. Or, worse yet, he might not care, and wouldn't be able to stop himself.
He tossed it over the back of the couch, planning on forgetting you had ever even worn it. He dropped himself onto the cuhions with a groan. Riley immediately took her place in her bed, just a few feet away from him. He grabbed the remote off the coffee table and turned on the telly, flicking through the channels until he found some action/drama that caught his interest. He watched it boredly, drowning himself and his thoughts in the drone of the movie.
Suddenly, Riley barked. Simon looked at her - his gaze was met with hers, mouth opening and tail thwapping against the wall.
"Hmm?"
She let out an impatient, garbled sound. She lowered her head to the edge of her bed, still looking at Simon.
He shrugged internally and looked back at the screen. He settled further into the cushions and let his eyes fall shut. He thought about maybe drifting off then and there - the din of the telly might help keep the nightmares at bay...
Riley barked again, making Simon jolt. He snapped his head towards her - she was standing at the foot of the couch, ears back and panting.
"Wha' d'you want?" He asked in an annoyed tone.
She barked again, shifting her weight from one paw to the other.
"Ya need to go out?" He asked. He stood from his seat, only for Riley to scamper back to her bed and plop down on it. She looked at him expectantly.
Simon huffed. "'M not following." He dropped down to the sofa again. Riley groaned, making a scene of dragging herself out of the bed again and walking over to Simon.
"Now, don't you go 'n start aga-"
She cut him off with a shrill yap.
He pressed his lips into a thin line. He knew it couldn't be time for her medication - you had just given her some at nine. But he was entirely stumped on what she was trying to communicate to him. Was she hungry? She wasn't usually, after she'd had dinner... did she want to play? But... she was acting like she wanted to go to bed.
"What are you on 'bout?" He asked, leaning down to ruffle her fur. She dodged his hand and backed up a bit, yowling out a frustrated sound.
He scoffed. "Fuckin' hell..." he mumbled, pulling his phone from his pocket. Only one way to fix this, he thought, as he tapped through his contacts, until he landed on yours.
He stared at the picture for a moment, familiarizing himself with the details he had spent so long ogling at: your smile, your damp hair, the curve of your cheekbones, the way you marked your spot in your book with your fingers-
Riley barked again, making Simon scowl.
"A'right- just hush." He ordered, sending her a stern glance as she shuffled back to her bed. He started the call - he felt unusually nervous, his gut twisting as he listened to each ring on the line. Maybe he really was whipped, he thought.
Eventually, the call picked up. His shoulders tensed as he heard shuffling on the other end of the line.
"... m... hello?"
Fuck. You sounded tired- no, you sounded like you were still asleep. He quickly pulled the phone away and checked the time; it was nearly two in the morning. Of course you'd been asleep.
"Uh... hey." He said, mentally cursing himself. "Shit, I, uh... didn't even consider you might be asleep."
"No..." You mumbled - were you even awake at all? "No, iz fine... yeah..."
Simon waited a moment, expecting you to say something else - but you didn't. Eventually, he heard the soft sounds of your breathing again.
"Hello?" He asked cautiously.
"Up... 'm up... what's up?"
Simon shifted in his seat, slightly ashamed that he hadn't put two and two together and ended up calling you so late. "Right- jus' a quick-"
Riley barked again, staring at Simon impatiently.
Simon covered the speaker to his phone and sent her a harsh glare. "Oi! 'M workin' on it, hush!"
Your sleepy giggle wafted through the phone and into Simon's ear. "Sweet baby..."
Simon's breath caught in his throat, and he coughed nervously. She means the dog, the fucking dog, you idiot.
"Uh, sorry- jus' got a question for ya."
"Hmm?"
"Well- she's acting a bit funny," he stared at Riley and held a cautioning hand up as she shifted her weight and whined, "she's runnin' around and yellin' at me. Keeps gettin' in 'er bed, then comin' back like- like she wants somethin'. I have no bloody idea. Just wonderin' if she was doin' this with you."
"Oh, yeah..." Simon could hear your smile through the phone, and he desperately tried to push the image of your tired face from his mind. "She wants her blanket."
Simon paused. "She- she's got her blanket."
"No- she wants you to tuck her in."
"She wha' now?"
You laughed again. "You need to tuck her in her bed. She's right under the air vent and she gets cold."
He looked back at Riley. She was now sitting down, mouth closed, as if agreeing with what you said. He scoffed, rising from the couch and shuffling towards her. She slowly thumped her tail as he approached.
"Never 'eard of a dog gettin' tucked in..." he grumbled. He grabbed the felt blanket behind her, swaddling it around her body. She groaned, slowly blinking at him in an appreciative manner.
"Ya spoiled, you hear me?" He said quietly, tucking the blanket in between her and the cushion of the bed. She sighed happily, completely unaware that he was insulting her. She licked his cheek when he bent down close enough, and he grumbled and wiped the spittle away.
You giggled in his ear - Christ, you've got to stop doing that, do you have any idea what it does to him? - as he sat back down on the sofa. "All better?" You asked.
"Seems t' be-" he replied, watching Riley as she settled into her cocoon, "ya turnin' her into a princess."
"Well, she is one." You quickly replied - Simon could hear you stretching your limbs, followed by a long exhale.
He wanted to talk to you all night. Hearing you prattle on was like a balm to his jagged mind. But he knew he couldn't. You were half asleep, after all.
"Well, tha's all I needed- oh, and you, uh..." he grabbed your flannel off the back of the sofa. "Y' left your flannel here."
"I did?"
"Yeah. The green one."
"Oh, bullocks, I knew I-"
"Who are you talking to at this hour?"
Simon felt his heart stop when he heard the other voice. It had hit him like a train, flooding his veins with adrenaline. His brain went into overdrive, thinking of the worst possible scenario. Break in? Crazy stalker? Murderous ex? "Y' aright, love?"
"Simon." You said, and he couldn't tell if you were talking to him or someone else. Were you trying to warn him? To ask for help?
"Talk to me."
"Who the bloody hell is Simon?"
"My client, ya git."
"Oh- sorry love-" Simon heard more shuffling, then a kiss, followed by a grunt from you. He let himself linger in the confusion of what was going on - but, in the back of his mind, he understood it completely.
"Got me right in my bloody eye-"
"Oh, hush."
"Left your flannel at his house."
"My green one?"
"Yeah."
"I thought you were using the grey one!"
"Well, I was, Tyler, and then I wanted the green one!"
"That's it - I'm stealin' all ya knickers tomorrow."
You laughed again - this time. The sound nearly shattered Simon. He felt like it was wrong to hear you laugh so sweetly.
"Well, uh-" he was speaking before he even realized it. "You can pick it up- or I'll drop it off- or, uh, I can drop it- I mean, I'll-"
"You can shove it in the closet until next time, if that's alright?" You said, yawning shortly after.
Simon paused. He needed to get it together. "Yea, that'll work. I'll let you go then - sorry to call so late."
"It's fine, really. But let me know when you'll need me again, ok?"
"'Course I will. I'll send you an email, as usual."
You scoffed. "I know you said we should only text for emergencies, but you can text me if it's something small, Simon."
"Right, will do. I'll text you."
"Is everything ok?"
"It's fine. You should sleep. I'll talk later."
"Ok. Goodnight, Simon."
"G'bye."
He ended the call, staring at the screen for a moment, until your contact photo faded away. He leaned his head back and sighed. His thoughts suddenly came rushing back - except this time, they were about you. How he should have expected you to have a partner. How could you not? You were so bright and bubbly, of course you'd be snatched up. He felt stupid for thinking you'd be single. Maybe this whole idea of you falling for him was stupid. Maybe this was better - he was saved from rejection, even if this situation stung painfully within his chest.
Whatever. Hopefully, your personality would finally drive him over the edge of annoyance and anger, and you'd be more of a nuisance to him. That'd be the easiest way you could let him down.
He looked at the flannel in his lap. It's not even hers. He thought. He crumpled the fabric into his hand and flung it behind him.
Riley's head snapped up at the movement, and she floundered out of her bed, chasing after the flannel.
"Riley, no- don't-" he sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose as he heard her scuffling across the floor. He kept his eyes closed as he heard her come trotting back, before she stopped at the edge of the couch.
She whined and tilted her head. Simon opened his eyes and looked at her.
"That's not even hers, ya ninny." He said. He looked away and turned up the telly, hoping that everything in his head would just disappear into the back of his mind.
Riley stepped around Simon's feet as she carried the flannel in her mouth. She then hopped onto the couch and settled next to Simon, depositing the (now damp) clothing onto his lap. He grunted as she laid her head down on his leg, whining and flattening her ears. She looked up at him with curious eyes, slowly thumping her tail on the cushion.
He exhaled through his nose. He stared at the flannel, then back at Riley. "Ya really like her, eh?"
She licked her lips and blinked, sighing through her nose.
He chuckled, patting her side and looking at the ceiling. "I know. I do too." He closed his eyes.
"We'll be alright, girl."
