This is the most perfect and dangerous magical book that has brought eternal damnation on many readers
Tumblr media
For centuries, the Church has brutally fought against heretical books whose texts ran counter to religion. And sometimes this struggle took the form of terrible repression. One of the works, the owner of which could easily be executed for the mere possession of a book, was the mysterious "Picatrix".
God and man
Historians do not undertake to count how many priceless works were destroyed in the fire by order of the clergy. After all, even "Index librorum Prohibitorum" - a list of books banned by the Roman Catholic Church, included 45 editions of the Bible, for reading which the least punishment was excommunication. What can we say about other works.
Tumblr media
Pages from a 14th century Arabic "Picatrix". But why was the Picatrix, a manuscript of about 400 pages, more feared by the church than other books? The thing is that its central figure was not God, but man. Using the magical formulas and rituals described on the pages of the manuscript, he, according to the author's idea, was able to attract and direct the energy of the cosmos in order to change his fate. In a sense, "Picatrix" was one of the first books on the topic of motivation and self-development. Of course, such amateur performances could not please the clergy, which is why they forbade people to read it on pain of death.
Purpose of the sage
Interestingly, "Picatrix" is the name given to the book in the 15th century by the Church itself, but its origin goes far back: the first known manuscript was created in Arabic and was called "Gayat al-Hakim", which can be translated into Russian as "The purpose of the sage".
Tumblr media
Drawings on the pages of "Picatrix", stored in the Jagiellonian Library. 16th century. The most likely author was Maslama al-Majriti, a native of Córdoba who died in 1007 AD, but there are those who think that the manuscript was written earlier, perhaps by a Greek or even an Egyptian author. One way or another, it was Picatrix that became the most common magical text in ancient and medieval esotericism. Its first translations appeared around 1050, and they were all handwritten. It is understandable - it was extremely dangerous to print such a work.
Cursed book
It is curious that the "Picatrix" was most widespread in the period from the 14th to the 16th centuries - when the repressions of the church were the strongest. The forbidden fruit is known to be sweet, and the European aristocracy simply could not resist such a mysterious book.
Tumblr media
Illustration from Picatrix 2015. Authors: John Michael Greer and Christopher Warnock. “This is the most perfect and dangerous magical book that has brought eternal damnation on many readers,” Johannes Hartlieb wrote to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I in 1456 about the Picatrix. All copies of the manuscript were considered impious and forbidden works, therefore they were subject to burning. The Inquisition generally considered him to be a satanic leadership, calling the author "the rector of the devilish faculty."
What is it talking about?
"Picatrix" is a mixture of the occult, astrology, alchemy and magic. The main concept of the manuscript is that through magical texts the reader can learn to attract and direct the energy of the cosmos so that events develop according to his will. Picatrix is divided into 4 books: - The first concerns the heavens, the signs on them and the secrets hidden in them. - The second talks about the movement of the Earth and its influence on living beings. - The third explains the properties of planets and stars. And also talks about how you can communicate with their spirits and other magical entities. - The fourth describes how to interact with supernatural forces acting on a person and much more.
Tumblr media
Illustration from "Picatrix" 18th century. Interestingly, inside the book you can find many spells that were supposed to be used in conjunction with "catalysts" (these are nothing more than forbidden substances). The idea was that by inducing a "change of state of consciousness" in this way, a person could go on "astral travel" to make contact with energies, spirits, and beings from other dimensions.
Magic Encyclopedia
But you should not assume that this book is devoted exclusively to such dubious ways to achieve unity with the cosmos, magic and your soul, because it is not in vain that it is considered the first "Magic Encyclopedia" in history. As the author of Picatrix himself writes in the preface, in it he collected works from 224 ancient books.
Tumblr media
"Picatrix", 18th century version. In support of this, the manuscript describes the creation of not only small talismans, but also entire cities built according to the principles of astrological magic. Some researchers even noticed a similarity between the "heavenly cities" and the Egyptian pyramids, which may indicate the incredible antiquity of the book. Unfortunately, modern versions of the "Picatrix" are very different from the original manuscript, which has not survived to this day. After over 1,000 years of manual copying, it has undergone countless corrections, mistranslations, and modifications. And this means that the author could lay in it something more than we see today. “So how was it?” a boy pushes at John Walker’s shoulder as Arlo walks into the locker room. Not even paying the usual football team any mind. Always talking about girls. Always talking about taking what they want and leaving. He hates having this class with them.
“It was so fucking easy,” John gives his buddies a laugh.
One pokes up from tying his shoes, “Which one?”
“Everyone knows Illiana is a slut and will fuck anything with a dick,” John laughs, and Arlo finally glances up at him scowling, and none of them pay him any mind. “But I like the ice princess. Completely virginal. Had her crying on just one finger,” he lifts up his finger and wiggles it around. “Not even that thick. Can you imagine how she choked my cock. Daddy’s little princess, she’s not so sweet anymore. Made a mess in my truck. I couldn’t help it I stretched her so much she bled.”
“Say her fucking name, you dipshit,” Arlo peers up at John through his lashes. Every word spitting out at him.
“Oh, you mad you didn’t get to split that shit open farm boy? Just got her fucking ready for you, if you ever have the balls to take the plunge. Course, if you just wanna get your dick wet, I’m sure the sister will suck you off.”
Arlo charges towards John, shoving him up against the locker, “Say her name!”
“Your best friend. What’s her name? I forgot. Didn’t care past her cunt. You should have seen her crying and begging me to stop and then to keep going,” Arlo punches him in the face, and watches his body fall to the floor. Moving over him to pound into him over and over again.
The other boys yell and try to get him off of John to no avail, until the coach gets in there. “Adler!” Arlo steps back, but still glares at John’s bloodied body. “What’s going on?”
“He started it!” John screams, as Arlo turns and walks to the headmasters office. Sitting and waiting on his punishment. Even when his mom comes into the office, he’s silent and solemn. Offering no explanation.
“Arlo!” Arleigh rushes after her son as he stomps through the parking lot. “Arlo Everett Adler, what happened?”
“Nothing,” his eyes fixed on the ground, hand on the door. “Can I go home now?”
“We’re talking about this later. Me, your dad, and you. You don’t do this. This isn’t you.”
“I’ll see you at home,” his voice flat and with no emotion as he jumps into his old Ford. Getting home, and he goes straight to barn to saddle up Jack. Never speaking to his horse like he normally does, just jumps on and rides through the property.
————————————
Iclynn pulls into the Adler homestead in her baby blue Ford Falcon. Her hoodie hanging over her hands, holding it nervously with her fingers, and she’s thankful she sees Arlo’s truck, but with a look into the barn, she knows he’s not here.
She walks over to their tree swing, sitting on the old wood, and barely rocks it around. Sage and Clover staring at her through the fence, while Tulip pushes his ball over to her, “Not today buddy.”
She sits a moment staring at them, and tries to laugh through her tears. “I really screwed up. Arlo told me not to go on a date with that asshole. It was just nice having someone pay attention to me, instead of Ills.”
Continuing her conversation with the animals, Arlo and Jack return and he stares at the back of his best friend. Her head pointing to the ground, and looking completely defeated. In that moment, he decided everything that John said must be true, and she needs him. Clicking his tongue he rides behind the house, slightly tying Jack up, making sure he has water and sweet feed, “I’ll put you up in a minute, buddy.”
He walks up behind Iclynn, and gives the swing a little push.
“Ari,” her voice whispers out, unable to look at him. “You shouldn’t have done that.”
“I’d do it again.”
“Why?”
He pushes her over on the wood, and squeezes himself beside her. Facing the opposite direction, so he can look at her. “You not going to look at me?”
“You hate me.”
“No I don’t. I hate what you did, but…”
“What I did?” she looks up at him, her big blue eyes rimmed in red, and she looks confused. “What did I do?”
“John is talking all about it. Bragging. That disgusting piece of shit. He got what was coming to him. And if bragging about you wasn’t enough, he started in on Illiana.”
“Bragging about what?”
“Princess, he took your virginity,” she shakes her quickly. Repeating no over and over again.
“No, he tried. He wouldn’t get off of me. Shoved his hands down my pants and I punched him. Bastard grabbed ahold of his nose cussing me. I made him bleed,” she huffs out a laugh, and then starts crying again. “He said we had sex?”
“He was disgusting.”
“Ari, I promise, we didn’t. He…he tried. He wasn’t going to stop, so I had to stop him. And…oh my god,” she starts hyperventilating, and then remembers what else he said. “What did he say about Illiana?”
“That she was easy.”
“I’ll kill him.”
“Princess, stop. I…that’s why I did what I did. Asshole can’t…he touched you?” she nods her head, having to look away. “Bastard. I’ll,” her arm wraps around his waist and she lays her head on his shoulder.
“Come on. Let’s get in the lake,” standing up, he takes off his shirt, throwing it on the ground, and Iclynn takes a gulp, looking away. Thinking she shouldn’t find her best friend as attractive as she does. “Come on.”
“I don’t have a bathing suit.”
“You wearing panties and a bra? They black like they always are?” she tilts her head to the side, and gives him a weak smile, “I know they are. How many times have you bought underwear with me? Come on.”
“Ari,” her voice whines out. Without asking he picks her up, throwing her over his shoulder, and starts the walk to the dock. “Arlo Adler, you put me down right now. Arlo!”
“Nope. You’re swimming.”
“It’s gonna be cold.”
“Who cares,” placing her off his shoulder, he kicks his boots off. Undoing his belt, he jerks his pants down, and Iclynn inadvertently licks her lips. He had begun to get thick. Tall like his dad, but built like Curtis. Broad shoulders, and the prettiest v line on his hips. “Iclynn Blade Baizen, either you take that baggy hoodie off, and jump in, or I’ll throw you in with all your clothes on.”
She finally begins to undress. And when she’s just down to her underwear, he grabs her up, jumping in the lake with her. The two swim and splash around, waiting until they’re winded before stopping. “Thanks, Ari.”
“You’re welcome, princess,” the only person besides her brother Otto, and her dad that gets away with using that name, is Arlo. Bashfully she looks away. Her mouth constantly going under the water, as she tries to stay afloat.
“Come here,” pulling at her arm, he holds her on him, “You know for someone who has traveled the world, been to all these countries with water. You suck at swimming.”
“Or maybe,” she brings a hand to rest on his chest. Taking a deep inhale, and chickening out. “Never mind.”
“Icy, what is it?”
“You’re my best friend.”
“That’s never going to change.”
The two wade in the water silently, contemplating what Arlo had just said. “Never?” she asks, her eyes darting down to look at his lips, inching closer to him.
“Never.”
“We can’t go back from this,” she whispers, and he shivers at the thought. He’s never wanted anything more than this. The years of falling asleep outside on a blanket. ‘Camping’ in her parents front yard while they told ghost stories. Riding around and listening to classic rock. Arlo always the one that could make her smile when she hated having her last name.
“I know,” he tells her. “I don’t want to,” she quickly slots her lips against his, the two of them moaning into the other. He swims over to the dock, before lifting them both up. Laying over top of her, and feeling her the way he’s wanted to for years.
She pushes up on his chest, smiling when his hair drips down on her face. “Can we…I wanna have a sleep over in the treehouse.”
“We’re not in a rush.”
“We’ve just had eighteen years to prepare for this, Ari.”
“I’m pretty sure I’m grounded.”
“I’m pretty sure you know how to sneak off. You have before.”
“Icy, this slumber party is different,” she bites at her lip, and he leans over to kiss her kiss swollen pout.
“I promise, nothing happened with me and John.”
“That wouldn’t stop me, princess. Can I at least take you on a date?”
“A date?” she giggles up at him, her hands holding on to his hips, and she yearns to pull him closer to her. “I’ve been staying in the treehouse. It’s quieter there. No one would ever know. Please.”
“Let me see what kind of trouble I’m in first. Maybe.”
“You didn’t say no.”
“I won’t be able to stop.”
“I don’t want you to.”

WHY I'M SMARTER THAN USERS
Smoking rapidly became a statistically normal thing. As societies get richer, they learn something about everything and everything about something.1 In fact it's the old model: mainframe applications are all server-based software assumes nothing about the paths from poor to rich, I knew I could see myself—making at least 4 of these 5 mistakes. And bingo, there it is: The Men's Wearhouse.2 But as knowledge has grown more specialized, there are few strong enough to keep working on something no one around them cares about.3 As well as being smarter, they tend to be calmer and more upstanding; they don't need you, it will work anywhere the Web works. It was only then that we realized that they were started there. Unless you're planning to write math applications, of course. Where is the man bites dog in that?
Life in Berkeley is very civilized. During the 90s a lot of money. The simplest answer is to put them in a row. They were also a kind of semantic deficit spending: they knew new things were coming. Professors in New York and the Bay area are second class citizens—till they start hedge funds or startups respectively. I recommend being good. But I remember thinking his company's name was odd. They were also a kind of selflessness. That VC round was a series B round; the premoney valuation was $75 million. Economic power would have been the part where we were working hard, the groups all turned out to be, there are no customs yet to guide you. He tried to make it open. It's not something people tend to volunteer; one likes it the way one likes popping zits.
I want to do better. They usually know other founders, and certainly not you as an investor. And once you've written the software, and issue a press release saying that the new version was available immediately.4 Startups are stressful, and this made their software visibly inferior because among other things, incubators usually make you work in their office—that's where the word incubator comes from. The thesis seems to be that the most important consequence of realizing there can be good art is thus a property of the subject or the object if subjects all react similarly. What most don't realize is how late.5 What you're doing is business creation. Google does. There are sometimes minor tactical advantages to using one or the other, like a detective trying to unravel some mystery.
But writing and art are both very hard problems that some people work honestly at, so they're worth doing, especially if you can see your email, why not your calendar? VCs are pretty good at reading people. PR firms. Whatever looked like the biggest win.6 Treat the first few as an educational expense. Developers have used the accelerometer in ways Apple could never have imagined. So I added a message at that point. In art, the highest place has traditionally been given to paintings of people.
The self-reinforcing nature of this situation works the other way too: the less you need further investment, the easier it is to travel widely, in both time and space. The only place your judgement makes a difference is in the direction of over-engineering. The summer founders were as a rule of thumb from now on that if people don't think you're weird, you're living badly. Much of what's in the sage's head is also in the head of every twelve year old. If a physicist met a colleague from 100 years ago. I doubt it could be any other way, as long as the potential returns look good enough. Odds are this project won't be a class assignment.7 Our only expenses in that phase were food and rent.8
Why does John Grisham King of Torts sales rank, 44 outsell Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice: It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good novel wouldn't complain that readers were unfair for preferring a potboiler with a racy cover. Viaweb let multiple users edit a site simultaneously, more because that was the truth. All you'll need will be something with a keyboard, a screen, and a funnel for peers. We always looked for new ways to give stuff away for free if advertisers would let them. His office was nicknamed the Hot Tub on account of the heat they generated. They're as expert in their world as you are in yours.9 Shockley Semiconductor, though itself not very successful, was big enough. The cheery, bland language of the people in a position of independence, they develop the qualities they need. It's something you're more likely to work in the end, and now he's a professor at MIT.10 This is particularly true of young people who have till now always been under the thumb of some kind of paternal responsibility toward employees without putting employees in the position of children. From this point, anyone proposing to run Windows on servers should be prepared to explain what to look for in founders. Because ambitions are to some extent marketing as well.11
How do you be a good angel investor? And how do you avoid mistakes you make by default? Most people who did great things were clumped together in a few top university departments and research labs—partly because investors are so unlike hackers, and they even let kids in.12 Currently the way VCs seem to operate is to invest in a bunch of ads, glued together by just enough articles to make it true, and the fact that they control Google, which affects practically everyone. Microsoft do? Among other things, they had no way around the statelessness of CGI scripts. Most high school students have searched for does not seem to exist.
Notes
Acquirers can be done, she expresses it by smiling more. And of course reflects a willful misunderstanding of what they too were feeling in 1914.
Ii.
I've said into something that would appeal to investors, you need to import is broader, ranging from designers to programmers to electrical engineers.
Founders rightly dislike the sort of person who would in itself, and Smartleaf co-founder before making any commitments. The other reason it used to end investor meetings with So, can I count you in? There's a variant of Reid Hoffman's principle that you can play it safe by excluding VC firms have started to give them sufficient activation energy required to notice them.
5%.
Revenue will ultimately be hurting yourself, if the statistics they consider are useful, how little autonomy one would say that I'm clueless or even being deliberately misleading by focusing so much on the blades may work for us, the airplane, the median VC loses money. I don't think you need to play games with kids' credulity.
Yes, there are before the name Homer, to the home team, I've become a function of the big winners are all that matters, just their sizes. Look at what adults told children in the succession of spectacular treason trials that punctuated Henry's erratic matrimonial progress made him an obvious candidate for grants of monastic property. Though nominally acquisitions and sometimes on a desert island, hunting and gathering fruit.
They'll be more likely to resort to expedients like selling autographed copies, or black beans n cubes Knorr beef or vegetable bouillon n teaspoons freshly ground black pepper 3n teaspoons ground cumin n cups dry rice, preferably brown Robert Morris wrote the first language to embody the principle that if a company they'd pay a premium for you by accidents of age and geography, rather than for any particular truths you'll learn. But no planes crash if your school, secretly write your thoughts down in, but this could be pleasure in a bar.
And I've never heard of investors want to change the number of startups have some kind of people we need to, so they will or at least for those founders.
In a project like a winner, they tend to say they prefer great markets to great people. But the most successful ones tend not to say they were still so small that no one on the parental dole for life in general we've done ok at fundraising is a scarce resource. The obvious choice for your side project.
The point of a cent per spam. One of the Daddy Model that it makes sense to exclude outliers from some types of applicants—for example, if you like a loser they're done, at least notice duplication though, because they can't afford to. But it's telling that it refers to features you could get a poem published in The New Yorker. This is what you love, or because they couldn't afford a monitor.
Actually he's no better or worse than Japanese car companies have been the first version was mostly Lisp, you should. I'm pathologically optimistic about people's ability to solve a lot of successful startups. There are some good proposals too.

The Bea Arthur Fund comes to us from New York, and is directly related to the Ali Forney Center, which is, as far as Wikipedia is concerned, the “largest LGBT community center helping LGBT homeless youth in the United States.”
The Ali Forney Center is all about managing and developing housing, because it’s about helping specifically homeless LGBT youth. Because we don’t get to live to the ripe old age of “murdered at 35″ if we freeze to death on the sidewalk at 7.
When Bea Arthur died in 2009, part of her last will and testament was to donate 300,000 dollars from her estate to the Ali Forney Center.
So let’s talk about what the Bea Arthur Fund does, outside of its link to the Ali Forney Center and their work to keep trans kids indoors during the freezing-ass New York winters.
So there’s the drop-in service, where they work with AFC facilities near Harlem to provide food, beds, medical services, education, and job training.
Then there’s the outreach program, which actually covers the needs of LGBT folks up to the age of 24. In this outreach program, the resources they gather for LGBT youth actually refer them to other organizations that can continue to work at their side well into adulthood. This is also the part of the program that can help you get to an AFC facility, for the benefits of the first service.
Outreach also gets supplies to people- we’re talking the basics, food and water, socks and underwear, absolute essentials. The Bea Arthur Fund’s outreach also extends to working with organizations in the community to help them better serve the needs of LGBT folks.
Without going down the full feature list of everything the Bea Arthur Fund or the Ali Forney Center provides for the LGBT community, youth or otherwise, in their area, I’ll post a link to the list so you can browse at your convenience (https://www.aliforneycenter.org/programs/), and I can move on to my next point, which I’ve already alluded to.
There are other organizations which work to the benefit of LGBT adults. And to just say that wouldn’t be enough- those organizations don’t exist in a vacuum. The Bea Arthur Fund in particular mentions not only that it covers LGBT youth beyond the age of 18, but that in the process of taking care of those people, there’s also a system for providing them with resources for their later life.
When Bea Arthur passed away, the Ali Forney Center’s budget was tight. Her 300,000 dollar contribution allowed them to cover costs, expand, and- since their properties weren’t foreclosed on, all of the young LGBT folks they serve weren’t suddenly put back out onto the street.
So maybe they’ll live, again, to the ripe old age of “murdered at 35.”
Maybe “murdered at 35″ is a problem that they don’t know how to solve. Maybe it’s easier to feed kids and keep them safe from the elements than it is to defend them from the world’s worst pedigree of bigot, and maybe when you don’t know how to do that, and you’ve specialized in something different, like housing, it’s important to instead refer those at-risk youths to other organizations, who are better equipped to keep them safe at a different stage in life.
We gain absolutely nothing from throwing Bea Arthur under the bus because she isn’t shepherding LGBT folks into their golden years. She chose to help at a different point in our lives, just like someone else, just like SAGE- Advocacy and Services for LGBT Elders- serves LGBT folks and their needs as they get older.
We don’t condemn SAGE for not taking care of us when we’re 18, and in just the same way, it doesn’t make sense to condemn the Bea Arthur Fund for not taking care of us when we’re, say, 34.
There are other networks and resources that exist at that point in time, and the Bea Arthur Fund, again, actually does the work to make sure that the youth making use of their organization know the names of those networks and resources.
Sometimes there’s a good reason to be upset with someone famous. John Byrne, the guy who’s responsible for my favorite issues of She-Hulk, is a ginormous transphobe, and it hurts me deeply to know that.
But Bea Arthur isn’t like him. She spent her life in a creative role, and then in her personal life dedicated her resources to helping others. I don’t know how else to tell you that it isn’t a bad thing to help kids, and that adults aren’t being maliciously excluded just because kids are being helped.
@nuggetemily this post is not made with anger, or to call you out, or to start a big argument. I’m speaking strictly as a friend who is expressing concern for how you’re acting.

Prune, Plan, Peruse
“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.”
~ George Moore
Like most of us who have been sheltering at home for the past eleven months, traveling to foreign lands has not been part of my normal activities. At first, I was immensely disappointed to cancel my 2020 exotic trips, especially the one that would have reunited me with my European pen pal with whom I’ve been corresponding regularly since I was nine years old. That’s a long time to have maintained a close relationship across thousands of miles.
But, like so many, this past year has found me digging even deeper into communion with nature. I have been inspired by its majesty and motivated to respect our alliance with a stronger devotion by spending many hours outdoors in contemplation as well as work-mode.
A week ago, the hills were still golden brown but with the recent heavy rains, a lushness and verdancy have finally appeared.  February nights bring increased frost and freezing temperatures. We must cover our tender plants with burlap or cloth as protection.
The most necessary garden chore this month is pruning our fruit trees. It is essential to prune your peaches, pears, prunes, plums, apples, and apricots while the trees are dormant in winter. Sweet cherries are pruned in summer as they are susceptible to fungal and bacterial diseases. All other fruiting trees need to be pruned to allow for increased sunlight to penetrate the branches which will in turn yield higher quality fruit. Pruning helps battle diseases while developing a better form for a healthier tree.
The tools you’ll need are a lopper, hand pruner, pruning saw, and long-handled pruning shear. You may need a ladder if your tree is especially tall but be very careful when using any ladder. Make sure to have a second person with you to hold the ladder since the ground may not be level. Sterilize your tools with alcohol or bleach mixed with water to avoid spreading any disease from plant to plant.
By removing unnecessary limbs, you will be able to shape the tree while providing better access for any necessary spraying.  The increased sunlight promotes a larger size of fruit with a uniform ripening time. Insect infestation and other diseases are reduced through pruning because after a rain shower, the limbs will dry more quickly. Pruning appropriately will provide a more beautiful canopy without topping the tree. The sugar content of the crop is increased with the airflow and sun. Harvesting is easier. Pick up a book on pruning to read about the best methods for your various tress or watch online tutorials. If you feel out of your league, hire a professional arborist. Always gather the trimmings from the ground.  When dry, use as kindling, shred for mulch, or add to your green bin.
Although this month is not the time to plant annuals and perennials, it is the perfect time to plant any bare-root specimens including roses, berries, and fruit trees. Check out the selection at your favorite nursery or garden center. Follow the directions on the packaging for soaking the roots, light pruning, digging the holes, and filling. By late spring most bare-rooted plants are established and flourishing.
Besides pruning and planting bare-root, February is a terrific time to plan for all-season enjoyment and splendor. Recently a delivery was made by someone who hadn’t been to my garden since the summer before the pandemic. His first comment to me was: “Your landscape is so beautiful and colorful… it’s like falling into a chapter of Alice in Wonderland.” I expressed my thanks for his sweet compliment, although in my mind I was thinking “winter is the ugliest time of the year in my garden.”
I decided to look at my yard through a different lens…fresh eyes, as if returning from a vacation. Sometimes when we rarely leave our cocoon, we fail to recognize the evolution of the cycles of attraction. As I walked around my property, I saw what he saw—a hillside covered in sweet-smelling narcissi, rows of pink Bergenia, waves of purple sage, shimmers of calendulas, bushes of azaleas, rhododendrons, and roses, trees of camellias, groves of ferns, mounds of nemesia, orchards of citrus, crocus, calla lilies, and daffodils popping, and the soaring orange plumes of birds of paradise all in full glorious bloom.  Even in the middle of winter, my garden is teeming with interest and vibrancy.
Take a walk around your garden and make notes of where you need more wit and whimsy. Know where the sun rises, moves, and sets throughout your landscape. Do you need to add or extend irrigation? Do you have a favorite color palette, or do you prefer a cacophony of color authentically unique to you?
Once you understand your wants and needs, pour a cup of tea, cover yourself with a cozy throw, and peruse a multitude of garden catalogs that showcase bulbs, annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, grasses, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Research what plants will be best suited to your terrain and micro-climate. Make a wish list noting the months to order, when to plant, and when to expect the show. By creating a calendar of flowering events, your garden will boast attractive appeal all year long. For a dramatic night environment, make sure to add outdoor lighting and lanterns to highlight trees, paths, fences, and walls.

Herbal Masterpost
Hey guys. Just wanted to make a little masterpost for herbs. I know some of you that follow me are just witchlings or you’re just now getting into the craft, so I hope this helps. This is gonna be kinda long, so prepare yourselves lol. First off, here are a list of basic herbs that you’re gonna want in your apothecary:
Mugwort
Sage
Bay leaves
Lavender
Rosemary
Cloves
Cinnamon
Thyme
Mint
Chamomile
Yarrow
These are some of the most common and widely used herbs in witchcraft, not in any specific order. I, myself, keep all of these but mint and mugwort on hand during all of my spells. There are so many different ways you can use herbs like these and it never hurts to know all of the options and techniques. Here, here, and here are some basic glossaries of herbalist terms, and the following are a few different types of preparations you can make with herbs:
Amulet - a charm designed to be work or carried on your person.
Anointing Oil - an oil blend, usually essential oils combined with a base oil that is rubbed on candles, charms, household items, or people. Usually the effect is based on aromatherapy - the scent of the oil is its energy.
Bath Sachet - a sort of tea bag for the bath.
Beauty Products - essential oils can be added to shampoo, liquid soap, conditioner, lotion, and all manners of personal care products. Not only does it smell great but also the oils will bring their influenced to you every time you shower. Just make sure to test the mixture on a small patch of skin 24 hours before using to avoid any possible allergic reactions.
Charm - a selection of herbs, talismans and stones blended together and bound up in a cloth and carried or placed in a strategic location. When the desired effect has been manifested, untie the charm and cast its contents into a river or the wind.
Decoction - 2 tsp. of <hard-seeds/pods/fruits/rootstock/stems> bruised then soaked in 8 oz of cold water for 30 minutes and brought to a low boil for 5 to 10 minutes. The herbs are stained before drinking and sweeter is added if desired. Decoctions are to be used within 72 hours or they will loose their potency.
Dream Pillow - A cloth pouch stuffed with herbs to bring good sleep, prophetic dreams or healing.
Floorwash - an infusion of herbs added to mop water or sprayer. Most often used to purify or banish unwanted influences from the home. Borrowed from our vodun cousins.
Incense - a blend of herbs that you burn. The combination may either be for magical intent, purification, or aromatherapy.
Poppet - a small cloth doll stuffed with herbs. Usually there is a link to the person it represents - a strand of hair, piece of clothing, a picture, etc. Used for healing and occasionally for banishing. (If I catch you sticking pins in a poppet I'll personally kick your butt - for bad taste if nothing else!)
Powder - finely ground herbs that can be sprinkled about the home, car, bed, workplace, etc. May be tossed into the air for a wish or rubbed onto a candle carved with runes among other uses.
Signature Powder - a blend of herbs and other substances that symbolizes you. It is a way of magically marking your territory. Add a pinch to charms incenses, etc. so that the results of your magic will find their way to you more easily. Sets a seal on your work.
Spell Bottle - A charm under glass. Spell bottles can be buried at the perimeter of your property to protect your home or left in plane sight as a curious and powerful nick-knack. Good for long term spells and protective magic.
Teas - herbs steeped in water. Boil the water before adding the tea as to preserve the herbal potency. Strain your herbs from the water and sweeten if desired. Honey is excellent as a sweetener.
Tincture - an infusion of herbs made in alcohol instead of water. These are often consumed, added to a bath, or used in anointing. Tinctures take several weeks to make and should be stored in the fridge.
You can make any of these using your chosen herbs. Moving on, correspondences are very significant in witchcraft. Each lunar cycle, star placement, raw and tumbled crystal, season, and day of the week has its own connection in the craft. Herbs are the same. Each herb has its own correspondences. I have compiled a small list that matches those with some of the more common herbs, or herbs that I at least have had work with. Here we go.

You can cross reference and match herbs to their correspondence through many of the following resources. I have a personal list in my grimoire/BoS that adds on what parts of the herbs to use and how to use them to make them most effective in my spellwork. You take in the information that you need, and this list is minimal just to help y’all out a bit. You’re welcome to copy any information in this post for yourself. And if you need help building your own apothecary, message me. c: Thank y’all for reading. Here are some resources if you want to look a little further into the work of herbalism or know a little bit more about your craft. Enjoy~
