Time Machine - 2024 - No. 1
First in the new Time Machine Playlists for 2024, they will appear once i have 40 songs in each one. Mixed genres of music, from 1950-2022. Already begun No. 2 so could out soon. Enjoy it and share it, might find some bands/artists you like and want to explore their back catalogues!!
I feel 40 is good number of tracks not too long or too short in listening time for your enjoyment. The whole playlist is only two hours and thirty three minutes long.

Man Or Astro-Man? Announce Vinyl Box Set 'ROYGBIV (Recordings From The BBC)'
Photo courtesy of the band. Even at the time, it felt implausible that Man…or Astro-Man? would do over a dozen sessions at the mighty British Broadcasting Company. Initially it was the legendary John Peel who had the band on his Radio 1 show—six times between 1993 and 2000—after Birdstuff sent him a postcard ordering him never to play the band. Available on Chunklet Industries Sept. 1 –…

CD REVIEW: APB – The Radio 1 Sessions (2024)
In the musical alphabet, APB (1979 - first single release) come before ABC (first chart hits in 1981).
APB, being The Sound Of Young Scotland, very much Do It Yourself in those days but a combination of Aberdeen-grit, hard work and innovative talent quickly brought them to the attention of BBC Radio 1's "new music" champions of the golden hours, David "Kid" Jensen, John Peel and Peter Powell.
The Radio 1 Sessions are just that, 19 cuts, from their halcyon period from 1981 to 1984.
Tracks: My Love (John Peel Session, 12/23/81), Higher The Climb (John Peel Session, 12/23/81), Crooner’s Lullaby (John Peel Session, 12/23/81), From You And Back To You (John Peel Session, 12/23/81), Danceability (David Jensen Session, 5/23/82), Crazy Grey (David Jensen Session, 5/23/82), Stop Before I Go (David Jensen Session, 5/23/82), Out Of Town (David Jensen Session, 5/23/82), Got It In One (John Peel Session, 12/13/82), Play It (John Peel Session, 12/13/82), Wonderdrug (John Peel Session, 12/13/82), Back Inside Your Heart (John Peel Session, 12/13/82), Hypnotic Love Affair (Peter Powell Session, 8/9/83), Don’t Close The Door (Peter Powell Session, 8/9/83), Take Me To A Good Place (Peter Powell Session, 8/9/83), What Kind Of Girl? (David Jensen Session, 3/29/84), You Can’t Have Her (David Jensen Session, 3/29/84), Something To Believe In (David Jensen Session, 3/29/84), So Many Broken Hearts (David Jensen Session, 3/29/84).
APB also toured the USA and made many friends, particularly in the New York area on college radio.
All in all, post-punk to dance to, and therefore a "cure for the blues".
An excellent body of independent work.
apb - APB post punk from Aberdeenshire Scotland (apbtheband.com)
Rating: 10/10
Released 26 July, 2024 and available from Wienerworld.

A-T-3 284 The Smiths - Accept Yourself
The bane of hayfever suffers Morrissey in full gladioli swinging mode. The Smiths second single This Charming Man had three b-sides across its 7" and 12" versions (as well as the two initial releases there are the François Kevorkian Remixes initially intended for New York DJs but picked up and put out as a 12" by Rough Trade in the UK a few months later)
This Charming Man is a great record and still gets a lot of play today so I'm pulling Accept Yourself out of its shadow. The studio version of Accept Yourself appears on the b-side of the 12" version of This Charming Man, with the track Wonderful Woman as b2. Like the a-side it was first recorded for a BBC Radio 1 session. This Charming Man was recorded for John Peel and broadcast in September 1983, Accept Yourself was recorded for David "Kid" Jensen and broadcast a month earlier. It's the session version I'm including here, engineered by Mike Robinson it just a has more energy to it. It's this version that appears on the compilation Hatful Of Hollow
In the song Morrissey anticipates the practices of wellness and positive thinking by eloquently and wittily going through doubts we might have about ourselves. Then ultimately it turns out mocking Mozza has been negging us all along, the twat
