R.I.P. John Mayall
John Brumwell Mayall OBE (29 November 1933 – 22 July 2024) was an English blues and rock musician, songwriter and producer. In the 1960s, he formed John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, a band that has counted among its members some of the most famous blues and blues rock musicians. A singer, guitarist, harmonica player, and keyboardist, he had a career that spanned nearly seven decades, remaining an active musician until his death aged 90. Mayall has often been referred to as the "godfather of the British blues", and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the musical influence category in 2024.

Song Review: John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers - “The Stumble (Manor House)” (Live, 1967)
The abominable sound that now seems certain to dominate John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers’ Live in 1967 – Volume Three is more tolerable on instrumental selections.
Following previous singles “Brand New Start” and “Stand Back Baby,” the band’s version of Freddie King’s “The Stumble” proves it. Mayall’s keys are barely audible, Mick Fleetwood’s drums are trashy sounding and John McVie’s bass is muddy. But Peter Green’s tearing-it-up solo is upfront and the ferocity of his playing is evident even in the gritty recording.
Live in 1967 – Volume Three lands Sept. 8.

Behind the Mac Mask: Rick Vito Turns 75
Less well-known than Peter Green, Bob Welch and Lindsey Buckingham and probably as recognizable as Bob Weston, Rick Vito nevertheless has something in common with all of the above.
He, like they, is one of the many men who was once a guitarist and singer in Fleetwood Mac. Unlike his comrades, Vito, born Oct. 13, 1949, turns 75 today.
Coming, like so many musicians (including Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie) out of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Vito played with Fleetwood Mac from the 1987 Tango in the Night tour until 1991, when the band finished promoting Behind the Mask, the only studio album on which he appeared.
In addition to making more than a dozen solo records and his Fleetwood tenure, Vito’s worked with Todd Rundgren, Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band, Bonnie Raitt and Mick Fleetwood’s Blues Band among others. And he’s held the same Mac job as Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Welch, Weston, Buckingham, Mike Campbell and others.
That’s good company.
