BEHOLD! The 90’s TV Dad Molecule

Seven actors all connected together in three movies or less, without using John Ratzenberger (who connects three of them via Pixar).

I also discovered afterward that John Goodman, Jon Lithgow, and Joan Cusack (who was also in Toy Story 4) were all in Confessions of a Shopaholic together, but I didn’t know that at the time, so it doesn’t count. I did it without it.

Today's the big day

1987.

The first thing Ben Stiller did on television was this mock film trailer for Saturday Night Live.

It featured Stiller as Tom Cruise, Anne Meara as a bartender, Jerry Stiller as a bowler, and John Mahoney as Paul Newman.

I’ll never forget when this episode first aired and the elongated scream of horror that I let out as Niles was almost pulled over the railings.

But I wasn’t the only one. The moment it finished it felt like the entire world went straight to the old ATF Frasier message board to express their horror to David Lee for scaring us all like that. If I remember correctly all he did was laugh at us, Lori Kirkland too for that matter.

Two months later and it sort of happened again when Cranes Go Caribbean aired:

Does anyone else remember around that time when there were reports in the press that John Mahoney wanted to leave the show and they were planning on killing Martin off with a heart attack?

When that rumour started to go around people asked David Lee on ATF if it was true. He denied it obviously and that was the end of that…until Cranes Go Caribbean aired and Martin began to groan and hold his arm as he lifted his coconut to toast Niles and Daphne on their anniversary. We all went into full panic mode again before making our way onto ATF where David Lee had already posted under the episode heading in anticipation, laughing his head off. I still wonder if that was added deliberately just to torture our little message board community.

I miss those days. They were a lot of fun.
