It was impossible to travel to Ylfrness without learning of Sigbjorn’s pack. He was named Wolf-father after the birth of his daughters: six fearsome wolves, each one large enough to eat a man whole, whose strange human-like eyes possessed a terrifying intelligence. Even as a child, Magden had heard the rumors—that Sigbjorn’s line was rife with mad men, those berserkers who took the shape of wolves and chewed on the guts of their brothers—but now, he knew it to be true. There was something inhuman living inside of Sigbjorn’s blood, and he wanted to taste it.
Seven Daughters Sired in Blood
WIP Introduction A Short Story/Novelette
∙ Genre ∙ Norse mythology inspired dark fantasy ∙ Target Word Count ∙ 8k - 12k words ∙ Trigger Warnings ∙ Pregnancy, gore, body horror, violence ∙ Rating ∙ 18+/Mature
∙ Summary ∙
Ten years ago, Magden and his sister Johanna, ventured into the wilderness of the Redhaven estate. Already scorned by their family — Magden, for being transgender; Johanna, for being a woman — they made a deal with the witch of the woods: bring her the flesh of an eldritch beast, and she’ll teach them the rituals she dragged from her boreal homeland, Somerkeld, to the fae-touched land of Ettenwain.
Now, the Lord of Redhaven is dead. Magden and Johanna have been exiled from their ancestral lands by their younger brother, a man rightfully paranoid that Magden will fight tooth-and-nail for his rightful inheritance and place the sorceress Jo on the throne. He will.
Decorated with the last of his finery, Magden travels to Somerkeld to solicit the help of a childhood friend, Sigbjorn Svanhildsson, Jarl of Ylfrness. Here, he will lie about the circumstances of his exile, sure that Sigbjorn will ally himself with a wealthy lord.
Yet, the more he learns of Sigbjorn’s household, the more entranced he becomes. Sigbjorn, the descendant of werewolves, has sired six fearsome monsters by his lover Guiscard. Reminded of the deal he made so many years ago, Magden sees a new path to power: bear Sigbjorn’s seventh daughter and bring home the newest beast of Ettenwain. But, with such strange and supernatural forces at play, Magden will soon learn that there are consequences for his deception.

Norwegian / old norse names and places
Every now and then I come across a book, movie, TV-series, fanfic, game or whatever, that mention a fictional "Norwegian" or "norse" place or person, and it just sounds so wrong it makes me either cringe or ROFL. Really. I still haven't recovered from the 1995 X-files episode, "Død Kalm", which took us to the port of "Tildeskan" where we met "Henry Trondheim", "Halverson" and "Olafsson". Hopefully this list will keep others from being that “creative” with names. :)
Common names for places, towns and villages in Norway
These names are very generic and suitable for a place, village or town anywhere (and pretty much any time) in Norway. Mix and match prefixes with suffixes for diversity. Bonus: All of these can also be used as surnames. Name (meaning) - usage
Nes (headland, cape, ness) - Standalone Bø (fenced-in field on a farm) - Standalone Fjell (mountain) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Fjell- / -fjell Haug (small hill / large mound) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Haug- / -haug Vik, Viken, Vika (inlet, the inlet, the inlet) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Vik- / -viken / -vika Ås, Åsen (hill, the hill (larger than "Bakken")) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Dal, Dalen (valley, the valley) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Berg (small mountain) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Berg(s)- / -berg Sand (sand) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Sand- / -sand Strand (beach) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Strand- / -strand Li (hill) - Standalone or prefix/suffix: Li- / -li Gran (spruce) - Standalone or prefix: Gran- Bratt (steep) - prefix only: Bratt- Myr (bog, mire) - prefix only: Myr- Neset, Nesset (the headland, the cape, the ness) - Standalone or suffix: -neset / -nesset Odden (foreland, headland) - Standalone or suffix: -odden Våg (cove, bay) - Standalone or suffix: -våg Lund (grove) - Standalone or suffix: -lund Sund (sound, strait) - Standalone or suffix: -sund Skog (forest) prefix/suffix: Skog- / -skog Øy (island) prefix/suffix: Øy- / -øy øya (the island) - suffix only: -øya bakken (the hill) - suffix only: -bakken gard / gård / gården (farm / farm / the farm) - suffix only: -gard / -gård / -gården elv, -elva (river, the river) suffix only: -elv / -elva stad (old word for town/place) suffix only: -stad vannet (the lake) - suffix only: -vannet
Common words that can be used as prefix to any of the suffixes above Svart- (black) Lille- (little/small) Sol- (sun) Brei-/Bred- (wide) Stor- (big) Lang- (long)
Common Norwegian surnames (contemporary)
Heredatory surnames didn't become mandatory in Norway until 1923. Many took the name from the farm or place they lived, or just changed their primary patronyms into hereditary patronyms. Example: Helgessønn/Helgesdatter (son of Helge / daughter of Helge) became Helgesen.

Names usage Double names, like Ragnhild Johanne or Ole Martin are common in Norway. Just keep them as two names and don't use "-", and you'll be safe, even if it ends up a tongue twister. Using only one of two given names is also common practice.
In Norway everyone is on a first name basis. Students call teachers and other kids' parents by their first name, workers call their boss by their first name, we call our Prime Minister by her first name (journalists will use her title when speaking to her though). Some senior citizens still use surnames and titles when speaking of or to people their own age.
There are some exceptions. For example, a doctor may be referred to as Dr. Lastname when we speak of them, but first name is used when speaking to them. A priest is "the priest" when speaking of him/her and their first name is used when spaking to them. In the millitary only surnames (and ranks) are used. If you meet Harald, the King of Norway, in an official setting you will refer to him as "Kongen" (the king). If you run into him at the gas station, or while hiking, he is "Harald".
If you don't know someone's name it is okay to use their title, or just say "you".

Bynames Bynames, or nicknames, could be neutral, praising or condescending. Usually bynames described a person's
body, bodyparts, bodily features
age
kinship and descent
territorial origin
knowledge, belief, spirituality
clothing, armour
occupation, social position
nature
Examples: Eirik Blodøks (Eirik Blood-Axe), Gammel-Anna (old Anna), Halte-Ása (limping Ása). I suggest that you stick with English for bynames, or use (relatively) modern language if you are writing in Norwegian.
Surnames
Surnames weren't really a thing until 1923 when they became mandatory. Before 1923 patronyms (son/daughter of) were used, and the name of the farm you lived on was often added as an address.
For instance: Helgi Eiriksøn (Helgi, son of Eirik), who lived at the farm called Vollr (grass field), would be called Helgi Eiriksøn Vollr. If he moved to the farm called Haugr his name would change to Helgi Eiriksøn Haugr.
Patronyms
Men: Use father's first name and add -sen /-son /-sønn Women: Use father's first name and add -dotter / -dottir / -datter
Farm names
Farm names were usually relevant and derived from either the location, a nearby landmark, nature or from occupation. I suggest you stick with the modern forms for farm names.
Old Norse (meaning) - modern Bekkr (stream) - Bekk, Bekken Dalr (valley) - Dal, Dahl Horn (horn) - Horn Vollr (field) - Vold, Volden Lundr (grove) - Lund
The list of common names for places/villages/towns is still valid, although the spelling is modern. Just keep it simple and make "clever" combos based on meaning.

❆ — Have you heard? [ DERRIK ROSENBURG ] has just set foot on Hlandul’s soil. He is the [ THIRTY-NINE ] year old [ FORMER JARL ] of [ BOLSTAOR ]. Take heed, they are said to be [ INTELLIGENT & PLACID ], but are also quite [ MALICIOUS & UNDERHANDED ]. You might even say they are the [ BROKEN BIRD ].
BASICS:
full name: Derrik Augustus Rosenburg.
nickname(s): N/A
birthday: November 18th.
age: 39.
height: 6′2″
weight: 161 lbs.
birthplace: Bolstaor.
gender identity: Cis-Male.
sexuality: Heterosexual demiromantic.
PERSONALITY:
mbti type: ENTP.
hogwarts house: Slytherin.
moral alignment: Neutral Evil.
enneagram types: The Achiever.
+ Derrik was the youngest child and only son of Bolstaor’s royal family, a surprise to two parents already rounding on their elder years. He had two older sisters, Johanna and Isabell Rosenburg, who doted upon their baby brother, unaware of what part this bright baby boy was to play in their future. Despite his status as the youngest child, Derrik’s rise to power was purely inevitable to anyone who met him. Even as a young boy, this scholar’s ambition was fierce, his mind sharp, his future bright.
+ As predicted, and to the spite of his eldest sister Johanna, young Derrik rose to the throne mere days after his father’s death. In the early years of his reign, he rewrote the entirety of Bolstaor’s laws and charters, putting new practices and methods in place that lowered crime, improved heath, made their merchants boom and launched Bolstaor among the wealthiest kingdoms in Hlandul, an effect that remains resonant to this day.
+ Two years after his rise to power, he met his future wife, and the love of his life, Heidi Von Krause, daughter of a prominent, wealthy family. Derrik, despite being one of the most eligible bachelors in Hlandul at the time, never seemed to be able to catch her individual attention. He lavished her with extravagant gifts, from Bolstaor’s finest furs to fine exports from foreign lands. Not even Heidi, with her charm and playing hard to get, could refuse the courting of a king for long, and soon they were married.
+ Not long after their marriage, on a cool, placid night where nary a wind blew, their first and only child was born, Ingrid Rosenburg. Since the beginning, Derrik has been a doting and attentive father, his daughter perhaps being the only thing he’s ever held in regard over his job. He’s always been deadset on the idea that his little girl would take his place, gender aside. He knew from the moment he set his gaze on her identical, chocolate brown eyes that she would carry the family legacy with pride.
+ When Ingrid was a few years old, Derrik finally came to terms with his wife’s unfaithfulness. It was no secret to anyone else that her heart had truly never belonged to him, but regardless, it was something that truly shattered Derrik. He’d truly loved Heidi, and to know that she had grown to resent him was something that he could hardly bear. After Heidi passed from illness when Ingrid was eight years old, Derrik permanently shifted. This formally bright young man was harder, colder, and he’d lost something that he couldn’t ever replace.
+ Years passed, time settled into it’s usual routine, and soon enough Ingrid was a young woman, an adult that was, in Derrik eyes, fully capable of inheriting the throne. When she came into adulthood, many vicious claims to the throne were brought out, some by Heidi’s own relatives, some even by her aunts. In order to secure her inheritance, Derrik went to extreme lengths, even placing guards at her side every hour of the day to ensure her life was preserved.
+ Called away to investigate a mysteriously violent breech of their southern boarder, Derrik, for precautionary reasons, drew up several, secret copies of his will, naming Ingrid as his heir. Little did he know, the reports were false. When Derrik left, he was met with an ambush, an assassination called upon by Ingrid’s maternal cousins. He was thought to have perished.
+ Gravely injured, but alive, Derrik found himself in an unknown wilderness, taken in by a woodcarver, unknowing of his true status. Leg severed below the knee, the limb has been replaced by a prosthetic, though it was no easy task getting used to it. He takes a little over a year to recover enough to travel again, thoughts only becoming more bloody and vengeful with each passing day.
+ One year later, Derrik is returning to Bolstaor, back to his life, his daughter, his kingdom--and he knows who was behind the attempt on his life. Blood will be spilled, and this time, not his own.
