There’s also all the Tiger Woods stuff — as that one well circulated post put it ‘hearing about tiger woods as a child in the early 2000s you’d assume he was going to jail’ I get that in the immediate aftermath of the revelation it was like. PERFECT TMZ shit, high drama and all, but god that got dragged on and on
Yup, people get really weird when literally any black celebrity does anything wrong.
Which, don't get me wrong. Vick's fighting ring was horrific. The firsthand accounts of what happened on that property were truly gruesome. It was bad.
But. But. But. He also went to prison. For nearly two years. And then he spent some additional time in and out and on house arrest due to various violations of parole. He paid the maximum fine allowed by law. He was punished. People to this day, 16 years later, post fantasies about how much they want to kill him, torture him, and continuously ruin his life. They talk about how every time he does anything new, they call up the people in charge and protest and get signatures on petitions etc until inevitably the company caves and cancels whatever contract they've got with him. There are people who still will not watch the Eagles play even though he hasn't been involved with them in over a decade.
What punishment is enough? Does one black man need to spend the rest of his life being hounded by these self-professed dog lovers in order to have proper penance for his crimes? Does he need to spend the rest of his life in prison? Should he be executed as these people are calling for? Is he never allowed to make any money ever again? Is he permanently banned from any form of media coverage? Currently he's doing a miniseries where he dives into the lives of black quarterbacks, which people have tried to get cancelled because he's going to make money off of it and they don't want a dog fighter to have any amount of spotlight. None of the dogs removed from him are even alive anymore. When is it enough? When can we say, okay he has learned his lesson, he is allowed to be just a guy again?
Never? Forever punishment is acceptable? This is really the opinion we're going to have on the prison abolition website, where we say that forever punishment is bad and teaches nothing except that everyone is one major screwup away from being worth less than dirt? Really?
The thing is. When black people say black lives matter. They mean all black lives matter. Even the lives of black people that it's hard to defend. Even the criminal matters, because he is a human, and he has life, and he can be so much more than just a man in a box for the rest of his life.
And that is especially true when other football stars have gotten off more lightly for worse. The children JoePa knew about are still alive and dealing with their trauma today as adults, and they get to live with the knowledge that he knew and he chose not to help and he is still celebrated and worshipped as a coaching god to this day. People only get this intense about it when it's black folks doing it.

Joe Paterno
Physique: Average Build Height: 5'8" (1.72 m)
Joseph Vincent Paterno (December 21, 1926 – January 22, 2012; aged 85), sometimes referred to as JoePa, was an American college football player, athletic director, and coach. He was the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions from 1966 to 2011. With 409 victories, Paterno is the most victorious coach in NCAA FBS history. His career ended with his dismissal from the team on November 9, 2011, as a result of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal. He died 74 days later, of complications from lung cancer.
Iconic for his thick tinted glasses, paunch, white socks and black sneakers. There was a time where I wanted to wreck Joe Pa’s world. Different from the way it was wrecked at the end. What? In the 90s to early 2000s Joe Pa was doable, at least to me. But after the whole Jerry Sandusky deal. Not so much. And you must admit his life was wrecked after Sandusky deal became known.
JoePa was married 50 years with five children, which goes to my 'loves to fuck' theory. You know what could have help him in the end? Fucking around. Not with me. I wasn’t street legal until 95. Seriously. If he was fucking around with something legal, plus football. He could use that as a reason he didn’t pay attention to Sandusky.

#HeresMyMovieReview of #PaternoFilm: The Good: Creepy, gross & infuriating? Check. But you already knew that. Buckeye radio network
Conference crowns, trips to Pasadena and national title opportunities had gone up in smoke at the hands of the Maize and Blue, and during the 2002 Michigan game broadcast, ABC’s Brent Musburger(far left) had even commented on how fans in Columbus, while excited as all get-out, seemed uneasy and nervous. All week long the failures of previous undefeated Buckeye teams to close the deal against UM (1969, 1973, 1993, 1995, 1996) had been rehashed. It would be theirs for the taking.īut first there was the small matter of putting Michigan away. Although a win over TBGUN would result in a co-Big Ten title with Iowa, OSU wouldn’t be sharing a trip to Tempe, Arizona to play in the Fiesta Bowl for the national championship. Now, with 12 down and “THE GAME” to go, the Buckeyes were “all in”. A tough victory in Madison, a defensive gem against JoePa that was Chris Gamble’s coming-out party, the “Holy Buckeye” miracle in West Lafayette (see Drive #7), and Ohio State’s first-ever overtime game in Champaign- a 23-16 triumph that made them the first team in school history to win 12 games in a season. 5 more wins, with 4 by a touchdown or less. It was the next 5 weeks where things went deliciously berserk. The four-point win over Cincinnati had been the closest shave in a 7-0 start for the Bucks that saw them outscore the opposition by an average of 38-15. On behalf of Scarlet and Gray believers everywhere that lived through that magical ’02 campaign, I tell TNT, “You don’t know jack”. But honestly, folks, will there EVER be another season like 2002? TNT can run that “We know drama” promo until the cows come home. It has been an extraordinary season, and without question there will be more to come in the future. The 2006 Ohio State Buckeyes are sixty football minutes away from a national championship. Somewhere in the aftermath I remember telling our group something to the effect of “We knew at some point they would have to win a close game, so now it’s out of the way…” “They” hadn’t even scratched the surface. I remember coming back from Cincinnati on Septemwith Buckeye 50 staffer Gregg Watson and family after the Buckeyes had escaped the Queen City with a 23-19 win over the Bearcats that was salvaged on a last-play interception by Will Allen in the OSU endzone (Will is congratulated by teammates in photo to the right). “There’s been a lot of kidding that they’re building this new heart hospital at Ohio State just at the right time”- Jim Lachey, color analyst on the Ohio State Football Radio Network, late in the fourth quarter of the 2002 edition of “THE GAME”

Do you think that prison time served and now 16 years of public ridicule is not punishment? I thought this was the prison abolition website.
Do you think that JoePa's glory should have been reinstated after his death despite the fact that he knew about 50+ kids getting raped by his coworkers and did next to nothing to stop it?
Do you think there might be a racial reason for why one is glorified and the other is vilified?

Degenerate's guide to new year's bowl games on tv today, January 2nd
That gif is really irrelevant to this post but it was the best option I got for “college football” gif on tumblr.
I’m not really all that thrilled by these games today and I don’t know how much I’ll watch them. This concept of degenerate football has really fallen the fuck apart. I don’t bet, I don’t drink enough, and I’m watching less football lately. The last two months anyway. This is the first college football of 2017 so I guess be thankful. Let’s pray for a total destruction of Penn State even if it is at the hands of the coward USC.
Monday, Jan. 2, 2017
Away vs. Home, Location, Time (ET) / TV
(17) Florida vs. Iowa, Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL, 1pm / ABC
I cannot recommend strongly enough that you not watch this game. Unless you are planning ahead to not miss college football until at least July. There’s probably something else you could do or watch instead of sitting in front of a matchup of the two worst entertainment values in all of sports. Really anything else will do. This is where next week’s national championship game is going to be played. That’s the best I can say for this game.
(15) Western Michigan vs. (8) Wisconsin, AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX, 1pm / ESPN
For all the talk of bowl overload it’s the classics that are really hurting my desire to watch any sports at all. The Cotton Bowl is the second oldest bowl game, I think. I don’t really watch MACtion. Can everybody’s favorite candidate for a bigger job in 2016 make the B1G continue to appear as bad as I always think it is for this wondrous bowl season? They’ve got one really good receiver. That could be enough but I doubt it heartily.
(9) USC vs. (5) Penn State, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA, 5pm / ESPN
If you are out there earnestly arguing that Penn State belonged in the playoffs over Ohio State I need you to understand: 1) Penn State football is not a sympathetic cause for anybody that doesn’t actively root for Penn State, 2) They didn’t belong in the playoffs, 3) Clemson, Alabama and even Washington would have ripped them to shreds, 4) you have to shut up about it. Rooting for USC is a horrible thing to do for the most part so I’ll just watch through the box score. Fuck, this day of bowl games is shit. The good stuff to me was Miami killing West Virginia and the playoff games. It’s not because of the glut of games it’s just that I don’t like most of these matchups in the sense that I don’t like siding with the available choices.
(14) Auburn vs. (7) Oklahoma, Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA, 8:30pm / ESPN
This is at the very least aesthetically pleasing in a uniform sense. Can Auburn hang with Oklahoma? Yes, they 100% can. I was kind of shocked to see in Bud Elliott’s Blue Chip ratio rankings that Oklahoma actually has fewer 4-5 star players than Miami does right now. And Auburn is relatively loaded. So, theoretically at least, Auburn is more talented overall than Oklahoma. I like that idea even if it doesn’t really play out that way. To hell with Joe Mixon and Mike Gundy and the rest of the Oklahoma Cowboys. T. Boone Pickens. What the fuck ever. I don’t want to see this shit at all. I won’t be sad no matter what happens because what interest does this carry for me? If they wear their classic looks they both present really well and they even balance well against each other. Hooray!

Review: Pacino's 'Paterno' revives the pain of the Penn State sex abuse scandal
Al Pacino as Joe Paterno in HBO’s ‘Paterno.’ (Photo: Atsushi Nishijima/HBO)
In Paterno, the new HBO film about Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, Al Pacino plays the title role with a quiet voice and small gestures. It’s a performance unlike many of the ones he’s best-known for, such as the coke-head gangster in Scarface (1983) or the feral cop in Heat (1995). For Paterno, Pacino dons big-framed, yellow-tinted glasses, and his large, sad eyes are almost obscured — it’s one way the actor communicates the regressive shame that overcame his real-life character.
Paterno, premiering April 7, re-tells the story of the scandal that broke in 2011 about the multiple sexual assaults Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky committed against young boys over decades. Sandusky is the villain of this piece, but he barely registers here: This film is about the culture of complicity that grew up around Sandusky’s crimes, primarily because no one wanted to tarnish or slow down the awe-inspiring triumphs that Paterno was scoring as the winningest coach in college football. It’s an unusual way to tell this story, but Pacino and director Barry Levinson pull it off, scoring their own, more low-key, triumph.
youtube
The script by Deborah Cahn and John C. Richards takes us along two tracks: How the Sandusky story was investigated and reported by Sara Ganim, a reporter for the Harrisburg Patriot-News, and how the revelations affected Paterno and his family. Ganim is played by Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience, Logan Lucky) as a tough reporter who, while still in her 20s, is an already-hard-bitten woman: She’d been reporting on the Sandusky rumors for years without anyone paying much attention. (Ganim eventually won a Pulitzer Prize for this reporting.)
Once the national media gets involved, the insular college town is engulfed in the scandal. The Penn State area’s nickname — “Happy Valley” — became a bitter irony, and Levinson is great at sketching in the local culture. Paterno summons up the worship of “JoePa” that dominated State College, Pennsylvania for a long time. Paterno and his family — including his wife, Sue, played by Kathy Baker, and his son Scott, played by Greg Grunberg — are overwhelmed by the depravity and long history of Sandusky’s crimes. Sandusky himself, played by Jim Johnson, remains pushed to the edges of this story, intentionally so: The focus is on the victims and the repercussions of Sandusky’s evil actions.
For Joe Paterno, it means a forced reckoning with himself. This is the third HBO collaboration between Pacino and Levinson — Pacino was Jack Kevorkian in You Don’t Know Jack, and played the title role in Phil Spector, for which Levinson was executive producer. The pair work in concert here, Levinson frequently shooting Pacino in tight close-ups, to let us see Paterno’s internal struggles. Paterno was in his 80s when the scandal erupted, and his reactions are partly those of a confused old man. But the film also shows us Paterno owning his own guilt, going over his memories of working with Sandusky, trying to pin down where and how he might have stopped the coach, measuring how much blame he must take upon himself. It’s a very good performance in a very good film that avoids sensationalizing the crimes in order to explore pain on many levels.
Paterno airs Saturday at 8 p.m. on HBO.

I Like Football And Maybe 3 People Quote T-Shirt
You won’t get that I Like Football And Maybe 3 People Quote T-Shirt . The thing you have to understand is that JoePa was an anomaly, not a norm.. and the system got so comfy for him that his assistant coach was capable of basically using buildings on campus to rape kids. Not blaming JoePa for that, but if you want a coach with JoePa’s level of commitment, it will NEVER BE ALLOWED at Penn State again. I have no idea why he wouldn’t be considered. If Vandy is going for some Kumbaya All in the family thing like Gene Chizik infested Auburn with, then best of luck to them when they hire Mack Brown (this is their best case scenario in this folly). A word from the wise to Vandy: You want a ruthless, heartless, humanist tactician like Petrino, to match the namesake of your university. I mean, if you were the Franciscan School for the Blind and Deaf, I could see hiring Paul Johnson or Jim Grobe or whatever another family friendly coach was available, but you’re the God Damn Vanderbilt Commodores. For shit’s sake, when I type Commodores into my tablet, it changes it to Commodities. I Like Football And Maybe 3 People Quote T-Shirt, hoodie, sweater, longsleeve and ladies t-shirt
Classic Men's As a UT fan, I would have mixed feelings about this I Like Football And Maybe 3 People Quote T-Shirt . On one hand, I love the idea of a real rivalry with Vandy. On the other hand, we kinda need you guys to be bad. Regardless, I don’t think you guys are going back to the cellar any time soon, even if Franklin does leave. T-shirt design near me. He’s shown that it’s possible to be competitive at Vandy, and I think his successor will be good too. Growing up in Nashville, Vandy’s always been, my second favorite team. And Franklin’s the best thing that’s happened to them in a long time. I really hope he decides to stay. Honestly I’d take going 9-4 in the SEC over what I think PSU’s ceiling in the Big10 will be for the next half decade (10 win seasons are the best hope IMHO). HOLY SHIT. Gladwell’s take on Paterno/Sandusky is off-the-charts bad... but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised about this coming from someone who logged flight time with Epstein. Yikes! Just astonishingly gross and sick.
(His take is basically give JoePa a pass because he was too into football to realize that molesting children was bad?)
