今日のおはジャズ「Dave Digs Disney」Dave Brubeck '57

名盤です。録音も非常に宜しい。シビアなジャズファンならこの女子ウケしそうな軟弱なジャケットだと回避しがちですが（笑）

基本ブルーベックがテーマを弾いてデスモンドが直後にソロを取るってのが、このバンドの定番ですが、丁度ビッグバンドと花形ソリストとの関係の様です。

このアルバムでは、ブルーベックのあのジャカジャカしたブロックコードも少なくいい感じ。でも、あれってアメリカの田舎のパーティーなんかで、素人さんのピアノがガンガン伴奏して、皆んなで流行歌を熱唱する、あの雰囲気に似てると思うんです。日本人にはそんな習慣無いから確実に嫌いだろうけど、アメリカ人は好きなのかも…。映画にもそんなシーンよく出て来ます。「トップガン」とか。

それと同時に、やはりデスモンドと同じく、クラシックへの憧憬やオマージュを感じます。

ドラムのジョー・モレロが参加した直後の録音です。それまでのアルバムと比べると、やはりバンドに躍動感が増して、グルーヴの推進力が段違いです。これに黒人のジーン・ライトが後に加わる事で鉄壁のカルテットになる訳ですが。

とは言え、前任のジョー・ドッジも、レニー・トリスターノがドラマーに求めた様に、「余計なフィルインはなるべく叩かず、ひたすらグルーヴ・キープ」してただけだと思うんですけど。全米一スイングしないリズムセクションって評価も有ったみたいですが、ちょっと可哀想な気もします。デスモンドが後年一緒に演るコニー・ケイなんてもっと何も演らないですからね（笑）
