I wonder how young Bruno was when he got his Stand. I'm betting on 15. He needed time to earn a reputation and attach Polpo's attention to himself.

Hi! Oooh, this is a great thought to chew on. I haven’t really given too much thought on this before, so thank you for bringing this to my attention! Today I’m going to do my best to answer the question…

To determine what age Bruno first manifested his stand, we must figure out how Bruno acquired his stand. A quick disclaimer: all I’m about to present is speculation, as Golden Wind does not provide any evidence as to how or when Bruno got his stand. So how did he get his stand? Was he was pierced by Black Sabbath's arrow during Polpo's initiation test? Or could it be that he was a natural-born stand user? I believe the latter—here’s why.

First, I want to discuss fate within the context of JJBA. According to the JJBA wiki, "Fate or Destiny is the concept of a predetermined course of events. [...] It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or that of an individual." Fate is a major theme within JoJo's, especially in Bruno's story. In chapter 78, page 5 in the manga, or episode 20 of the anime, it states, "...and the wheels of fate continued to turn," which points us to believe that everything that occurred within Bruno's life was fated to happen. Applying this logic, he was fated to join Passione.

The concept of gravity within JJBA also ties into fate. It's a universal law within the JJBA universe that stand users are naturally drawn toward each other as if they're fated to meet. Passione is a syndicate comprised of stand users, which is one of the reasons why it is so large and powerful. If Bruno was fated to join Passione, this could indicate that he was born a stand user.

Giorno and (potentially) Bruno aren't the only natural-born stand users in the gang. In Purple Haze Feedback, it's revealed that Narancia is also a natural-born stand user. (This evidence only works if you believe Purple Haze Feedback is canon. I do.) We know that to join Passione, Narancia went to see Polpo behind Bruno's back. In PHF, this event is expanded upon, showing us that Fugo is the one who led Narancia to Polpo. Before doing so, Fugo shows Narancia his stand, and Narancia can see it.

I bring this up because I originally assumed that everyone in the gang (aside from Giorno) was pierced by Polpo's arrow, given that there aren't that many natural-born stand users who aren't Joestars by blood. (This goes for parts 1-6 of JJBA.) If Narancia, a natural-born stand user, was drawn to Passione by gravity/fate, then it isn't out of the realm of possibility that Bruno also became a member of Passione in the same way.

Now that I have established why I believe Bruno is a natural-born stand user, we can speculate on when he became a stand user. Stand manifestation usually accompanies a significant changing point within someone's life, whether it be when Jolyne was sent to prison or when Jotaro's mom became gravely ill. The crucial turning point in Bruno's life occurred when he first committed murder, successfully defending his father from those who wished to kill him. I headcanon that Bruno's stand awakened on that night.

I also like to believe that Bruno's stand wasn't fully developed when it awakened, not becoming the Sticky Fingers we know and love until later in his life. So when exactly was that? That's up to you to decide--as you said, it could have been when he was fifteen. Stands, like your identity, take time to develop, and Bruno was in a particularly tumultuous time in his life when his stand (potentially) first manifested. Another time I could see his stand becoming fully developed was during Polpo's initiation test. Of course, that depends on how Bruno passed. If his test went as Giorno's did, he may have had to use Sticky Fingers to defend himself from Black Sabbath. Do-or-die situations also cause your stand to evolve, as shown by Koichi's Echoes.

fucked up sleepwise and trying to survive until my flat inspection today's over so i'm just like. aimlessly typing in my diavolo fic document. i just hit 16k words in it.....it's this thing i'm writing about like. what if diavolo found out about trish soon after she was born through the power of weird jojo blood sensing and incredible paranoia. the point isn't to make a significantly different "au" in the sense of altering the plot of VA, however, since he doesn't do much about that discovery - the point is rather to explore his character and prompt his brain to move in new directions re family and destiny. less "what would he do differently" and more "what would he think differently".

anyway, it goes back and forth in time a lot and the part i'm working on rn is concerning his idea of his mother. ofc i love mother stuff so i'm having fun...i'm playing around with this idea he has of gender - as a result of like. his entire existence. he's come to have a lot of um...i'm trying to think of the word. mystical? views of certain concepts relating to predetermination and division. for example, that people come into the world fully-formed and with their destinies laid out, for example that women and men are opposites and that the formers will always resemble their mothers and the latters their fathers. his recognition of trish shakes that up of course, but before her he only had a very distant and abstract concept of his mother, like she bore little significance to him as a person.

Araki’s stated schtick is that A Hero Stands Alone.

The memetic event of a JoJo story is the death of the best friend character. The true replicated event is the death of a mentor character or guiding light who can connect with the protag on their own level. The best friend mentor character is descended about half the time from the same family, and everyone bearing that family name dies.

Putting that together, the best friend mentor is a set role with its own set destiny. The Joestar is destined to be the hero, the Zeppeli or equivalent is destined to die. But, there’s always an ensemble cast. Why does the Zeppeli have to die? The hero can be alone if their friends are blocked off by chance. Why does one character die while the other survive, why is it that the hero always has a close personal peer and friend die, and not an older mentor or another random cast member?

The pattern’s not perfect. Most stories have multiple deaths, of which the Zeppeli is one. The best friend and mentor aren’t always the same character. The designated Zeppelis outside the family like are Kakyoin, Okuyasu, Bucellati, and debatably Jotaro. Part 8 doesn’t have one. Okuyasu survives even if he dies first. Bruno and Mista split the archetypical Zeppeli role the same way Will and Speedwagon split it. Hermès functions as the mentor bestie but she doesn’t trigger a story event in the way that a Zeppeli character usually does. aNyWaY. Moving on.

JoJo’s focus is family, usually blood ties, inheritance, fate, doom. The line must carry on. The rest of the ensemble cast can live OR can die, while the Zeppeli-character must die. The ‘hero stands alone’ explanation isn’t enough to cover the constant bestie deaths. Why isn’t it enough to have them alive and somehow blocked off? Even Okuyasu has to literally die and be reborn.

One explanation: rule of drama, Araki knows a formula and sticks to it. This is the correct answer.

Another explanation: something about the bestie character cannot be willingly abandoned by the hero, the bestie is such a central part of the hero that the hero will subordinate themselves to the bestie while any chance exists of their intervention. The bestie rules over the hero’s mind. Therefore, they have to die. The hero has to experience the greatest loss imaginable, not just stand alone, and the peer is that.

Another explanation: JoJo is about the family line. By representing the urge for knowledge or connection outside of patriarchy and family life, the bestie mentor represents a primal threat to the foundation of the Joestars. The Zeppeli is the gateway to the greater world and that gateway must be shut.

Taking a break from Marvel has helped me a whole lot mentally down to how I write my stories. Sad since it taught me that not every retcon is bad (see Magneto). A retcon falls in the category of bad when writers completely contradict what was established, alter fundamental aspects into a direction that makes no sense and turn characters into worse versions of themselves. By far to me tho, Jojo made the best retcons (I see you like that manga/anime too, what's your favourite stand and part?)

In Marvel and for X-Men especially, retcon's came in all shades and forms.

The Azazel retcon to me wasn't bad since it didn't change Nightcrawler's very nature (Azazel was never a demon so Nightcrawler isn't a half demon), didn't make him the most important character ever, didn't make stuff about his life after his birth all premeditated and now unimportant to him, didn't undo the reason why he was abandoned by Mystique since 1991, didn't undo the way he views the Szardos, didn't make him disregard the way his bio family treated him for the sake of blood ties, didn't make him overlook the harm they willingly inflicted onto him and others, didn't give him an extensive case of amnesia, didn't make him have an identity crisis, didn't make the AUs where he was raised by Mystique impossible or unlikely, ...

The Destiny retcon on the other hand wrecked all of that. There's nothing, absolutely nothing that was kept and now makes sense from X-Men Unlimited. It all sounds like loopholes being jumped rather than a cohesive narrative. Nightcrawler cares about his biological family more than his adoptive or his mutant one. His adoptive family isn't an entire world to him, they're a stepping stone to tick a box of characteristics so he is the way he is in present day. The reason why he was abandoned by Mystique was changed from the ground up. The retcon did all of that to now have Mystique and Destiny be his parents yet the dynamic Nightcrawler has with his biological family has pretty much not changed and is the same as before the retcon : Mom doesn't care about and doesn't want anything to do with him like she literally forgot he happened and "Father" wanted to have him and cares to some extent about him (even tho with all the DNA imprinting Mystique didn't of Azazel's DNA, she is more like a distant relative to Nightcrawler than a direct parent). We're back to square one and somehow went further backwards.

What did the Azazel retcon do ? Keep the same setting and key characters Lobdell used and didn't make any of them irrelevant, not change the powers they had at the time, develop the setting where Nightcrawler would have grown-up in if he was born normal looking, develop the Baron who would have been his father under other circumstances, reveal why the Baron died before he was born (X-Men Unlimited left that up in the air), give an explanation behind Nightcrawler's appearance and powers but still had luck at play as his other parent had normal children with other abilities previously, add a layer of reasons why Mystique abandoned him and didn't care about his whereabouts even after meeting again years later, give Nightcrawler some more reasons to pity Mystique's situation at the time and feel compassionate towards her, add more natural tragedy to Nightcrawler's origins, make his adoptive family the only real good people in the story and his life, ...

What did the Destiny retcon do ? None of that.

Oh yeah retcons aren't inherently bad but when comic companies start doing several retcons back to back its very unlikely that a lot of them are gonna be good. It starts to make reading them as a story pointless if the narrative is gonna invert itself repeatedly.

I do agree that Jojo has had the best retcons the retcon with Josuke existing as a bastard child of Joseph whilst it did kind of ruin Joseph's relationship with Suzie Q it was an interesting way to add a new Jojo without it being Jotaro's kid and having to age him up further. Pucci and the other Dio agents that show up in the later parts like Yoshihiro Kira are a great example of retconning the story to add in characters where it makes sense and connect them to Dio.

My favourite Stand overall is Killer Queen but Star Platinum is pretty close. Favourite Part is still 1.

Yeah Azazel as a retcon was simple really it was just this ancient demonic Mutant that fathered him. There wasn't no 4 parentage story or a whole destiny that Nightcrawler hasn't even fulfilled lol or how in alternate timelines like AoA where Nightcrawler and Azazel don't even battle each other. And yes AoA whilst different was originally an altered timeline for 616.

The Destiny retcon was like some of the worst official fanfiction around as well as trying hard not to contradict the previous origin story. And honestly any origin story that requires you to write a paragraph to explain is bad plain and simple

D4DJ Voice Actor's and Headcanon Voice Actors.

This will be a little different than my usual VA headcanon posts because this will actually feature both canon AND headcanon VA's from this series.

The only instance where D4DJ has been dubbed in English is the first season of the anime, which primarily featured Happy Around, Peaky P-Key and Photon Maiden, and while the other units made cameos and had voiced scenes, they didn't really get the spotlight. I wanted to include all the characters in the post though, because I very quickly fell in love with this series and the storylines, and characters sing to me, pun not intended.

Oh man there's a lot more panels/pages which make no sense the more you look at them believe me. Like the one where they show Azazel taking over if Kurt doesn't exist to stop him and all of Destiny and Mystique's plan

Firstly, the bamfs are there... Azazel only has them once he gets to Hell.... He only gets to Hell when Kurt dies and goes to Heaven... Kurt can only die and go to Heaven if he existed in the first place. Also Azazel goes for the Bamfs AFTER Kurt defeated him a first time. So like that's a big plothole

Secondly, yo how tall is Azazel did he get a growth spurt or something cuz he looks taller than Apocalypse even when he's sitting down

Thirdly, in the pile of bodies you see infront of Azazel's throne, there's Storm, Magneto, Jean Grey and the Avengers but also... Doctor Doom. I've said enou- No actually there's more. There's maybe real Angels in the background and the description says "Irene had beheld the obnoxious old fiend bestriding the cosmos" which makes things even funnier because Azazel is now stronger than literal beings made by God and whatever cosmic entities exist in the far beyond... But still gets defeated by someone who now "just looks like him" and doesn't even know MAGIC

"Unless a child was born that he would assume was his own [...] Unless his preoccupation with his heirs would allow for the boy to sabotage his big stupid ambitions -- not once but many times." = (This is why the editors on the wiki pages are going crazy) There's a lot of things wrong about this part, mainly that Azazel can't just assume.

The only people he is able to mind-control have been shown to be related to him, his very children, which is how he got Nightcrawler to his island in the first place. No one else. Really the second you say Kurt isn't related to him you unwillingly lead to the logical assumption that Azazel has mind control powers that work on anyone... Which is false. Next Azazel's Heaven take-over could only happen because Nightcrawler was his anchor there. Nightcrawler was his anchor there because they're blood related. If Azazel has been assuming Kurt was his kid when he wasn't, does that mean Azazel has had the ability to yeet himself to Heaven and never knew (is his jojo stand the actual stairway to heaven or something) ? Does that mean anyone can seal Azazel on Earth even when they're not blood related ? Because that's what Kurt had to do and it was his most selfless sacrifice. Are you saying he didn't need to sacrifice his Afterlife this whole time and anyone else could have just done it because being biologically related to the guy wasn't both his strength and weakness ?

There was really two ways to stop Azazel when he was still going around and having kids (even tho he was stuck in a loop of doing it until he got exactly what he wanted, that being Kurt): Kill all of his kids/stop him from having them or just kill/stop Nightcrawler from existing (cuz he really needed someone related to him with his exact abilities).

There was even one way for things to have never gotten as far as they did and it was literally stopping Margali Szardos from getting into contact with Azazel and getting him to Earth in the first place because Azazel was in his dimension for thousands and thousands of years without once managing to get out until then

... Coincidentally Destiny talked to Margali at some point. (+ 1 plothole)

The writer only refers to Azazel as a monster/fiend (which he is morally) but he pretty much means it as like the magical kind... When Azazel is a mutant and has been on Krakoa for three whole years with other mutants now. He even went through the gates that only let mutants pass. He didn't even cause trouble on the island during that time. Mystique knows he's on the island, Destiny surely knows he's on the island. So why did they let him there if he's not one of them and "Irene had seen that he'd become the worst of [the vaudeville monsters]" ? It's counterproductive don't you think ?

Lastly, I really like how Mystique is saying all of this when she managed to hire Azazel to work for her the last time they met. And he did everything she told him no problem back then too. The contrast is so jarring like the only way to stop this massive warlord and universe conquerer guy is to either have him "think he's a dad" so he plays favourites or give him an actual job

(Another thing I can't unsee because of many friends but Azazel is dressed like mad max fury road character or like he's part of the beast pirates from one piece)

I love the way you wrote this anon. Don't you know Azazel is apparently this all powerful giant being but also is able to be thwarted by his son who is just a weaker version of himself? Oh wait scratch that its only his son by a smaller percentage but still the point stands Azazel is the most powerful mutant except for when he isn't when the story calls for it. Technically all beings are made by God but I get what you mean, he's apparently able to defeat immortal beings created by God like its nothing. I honestly don't understand this writer, its not like he seems to think things through in terms of biology or story but then i guess I don't really understand the majority of X-men fans because they seem to think this is peak story telling even though now the narrative is far more confused and they've upgraded Azazel powerwise and had to ignore recent stories involving him.
