FFXIV Writing Challenge - 2020
Day 3: Muster
Ah sleep. A luxury one could not buy and was rarely appreciated until it was out of one’s grasp. And oh how one would pay for neglecting it. Body would ache, eyes would burn, thoughts become muddled and slow. All things he, in all his wisdom, was now dealing with after spending 2 straight days buried in his work.
‘...cher?’
Groaning, the old Elezen rolled over and tried to dig himself deeper into the plush softness of his bed and pillows.
‘Teacher?’
He grimaced and grabbed the edge of the pillow his head rested against, pulling it so as to curl around his head. So tired he was imagining hearing students. What a bother.
‘Teacher Jio?’
Burning eyes snapped open as something finally registered in his sleep-deprived mind. He only had one… ‘student’... who called him that. His body desperately struggled to keep him warm and cozy right where he was, but the panic his mind flooded his system with denied him. Sitting upright and swinging his legs over the side of the bed, he sucked in a deep breath and mustered the strength of will to haul himself up, grab his robe, and hurry down the stairs towards his workrooms. If he had been able to hear the call from up in his room, nearly completely asleep, he was worried how far it must have traveled. While he lived well removed from others, close to the cliffs that looked out over the dense forests and winding rivers far below, ever was there a chance particular sounds might travel just far enough to reach other such recluses.
That would be a… problem.
Flinging open the door to his workroom his eyes went to the very large ornately decorated glass doors that led out onto his patio. As he expected, a white wedge-shaped head was hovering near them, a single silver eye aimed to peer into the darkened chamber. No doubt the rest of his visitor was spilling half-off the upraised patio to perch on the grass below.
“Miss Verdandir…” the aged Elezan sighed, running a hand through his salt’n’pepper brown hair. He trudged forward and opened one of the doors as the large head shifted back and cocked slightly in what he had learned was curious attention. “While I was not… er… expecting your visit at this hour, did we not both agree that you would keep your presence a secret? Calling out so loudly might attract unwanted attention.”
“But I didn’t make a sound, Teacher Jio,” the white Dravanian rumbled as softly as her great form would allow, head dipping down meekly. “Only you heard me, I promise.”
The Sharlayan researcher blinked up at his friend… student… research subject dumbly for several beats before his jaw dropped. “Pardon, do you mean to say you were speaking directly into my MIND?!”
Again, the large head tipped to the side, curious. “Of course, Teacher. How else would we communicate with each other?”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Jiohault sighed, fighting down the instant urge to grab his research notebook and delve into this new information so innocently laid before him. He was not going to do this to himself. He needed to SLEEP. This could wait until… whenever he woke up next. “My dear Miss Verdandir, what was so urgent that you needed to see me now, in the middle of the night?”
The Dravanian blinked at him, what he had learned to be a ‘smile’ appearing on her face. “I didn’t want to disturb you when you were so busy before, but now you’re no longer busy so I thought you could explain a few things I saw over the past few days…”
Jiohault internally groaned and felt his body sag as the dragon began to launch into her explanation and questions. Ah, sleep. A luxury one could not buy and was rarely appreciated until it was out of one’s grasp.

Jun 2022
Time again for another mid-year check-in / "bday post".
June this year was kinda intense at work as we were busy preparing the leadership team for the re-org and offsite event at Prague. But I had a short break few days before the offsite flying over a bit earlier to hang out with Eos for a bit. She's never been to Prague before (I've been to Brugge a couple of times to visit her in previous work trips) so this was also like an excellent opportunity for her to do some sightseeing in a city she's never been to.
Tumblr media
Eos taught me to a secret to make our legs look longer in photos. (You just have to point it a bit sideways.)
Tumblr media
Also a weekend hiking trip to the breathtaking Bohemia/Saxon Switzerland.
After the work trip, I flew home a bit earlier than the rest of the gang. Partly so that I could have some chill me-time, esp after spending a week socialising with so many of my colleagues, my social energy tank was hitting quite low. Also because I was flying Qatar, while the rest was with SQ, which was on different schedule. (Sidenote: So lucky I was on this flight – SQ was cancelled last minute, European transferring airports in chaos, and the girls had a terrible flight adventure back home)
Tumblr media
"White shirt party" - XDSG's last fancy dinner in Prague, and bday celebration for me.
The flight back was also quite a serendipitous encounter. On the transfer gate at Doha airport, waiting to board my flight, I spotted a caucasian lady talking on the phone with a very familiar tone and accent. I glanced up my book and only to see this lady's face masked up and wearing a puffy newsboy cap. She had that iconic Astrid vibe but I couldn't be sure, because, what are the chances?
So I just minded my own business, boarded the plane. And while loading my stuff on the overhead cabin, I looked over and saw this lady again a few seats away from me in the opposite aisle. She was with another guy who also looked quite familiar... But still, that's fine. It's probably not her... but hmm... this is flight to Singapore. Maybe...
The rest of the flight was uneventful until we landed at Changi Airport finally. Once I got off the plane, I texted Huiling and told her about how I saw someone that looked suspiciously like Astrid on the plane. She quickly replied that, recently Astrid did post on facebook that she's coming back to Singapore for a visit. Maybe it's really her, and I should go say hi.
By then I was already at the arrival lounge, taking my time to go to the toilet, then went to slowly check out the Duty Free shops to lookseelooksee if there is any cheap alcohol to buy (Not that I would know what is cheap anyway). No way I would see her again.
Walking into the liquor section, I spotted that lady was again, and this time I was able to see her upclose, and hear her speaking to her husband. By then I was 90% sure it was Astrid. So I put on my thick skin, went up and asked, "Excuse me, Hi. Are you Astrid?"
She looked up, startled, squinted through her funky glasses, then a looked of recognition crept to her face, "Evon! What a surprise!" She pulled down her face mask and said, "Yes I am! Long time no see!" and reached out for a hug.
She was genuinely surprised and told me that it's kind of weird fate that I was the one that she would bump into the first time landing in Singapore since moving away 5 years ago. The last time we met was also by chance encounter – on our nature walk at the Green Corridor, her last walk before leaving Singapore. That is strangely fated indeed.
Tumblr media
19 Jun 2022: Took a selfie with my fav FYP prof at Changi Arrival Hall - what a weirdly wonderful chance encounter to be on the same flight. Such a great gift from the universe on my bday??
Tumblr media
I jioed Huiling to meet up with Astrid for lunch the following Monday to catch up even more. (Bread Yard at Galaxis)
Now for some mid-year check-in reflections. Looking at my previous post, seems like I haven't made much progress in terms of achieving "Balance". But actually, I realised I've never really defined what that really means and how that shows up in terms of my actions and behaviour. So, my bad.
I'm still spending most of my time at work. But does "balance" actually mean spending half my time at work, and half in my non-work life? Or is it a "feeling", something more intangible and less measurable?
Realistically, it would probably be a torture for me to limit how much time I spend at work. I've come to realise that it's just not how my brain works. I cannot just switch it off. Especially when I'm working through a problem or just generally thinking about ways to improve things. And I do enjoy these "work" moments as much as things like eating breakfast foods, hanging out with people I like, reading a book in a quiet cafe, nua-ing in my bed while watching 荷兰村, or going for a walk in the neighbourhood while listening to my favorite podcasts.
So maybe I should just stop feeling guilty about not being able to shut down. And just embrace the fact that, whatever I do, I will just give it my all, and it's ok that my priorities can shift based on the season. After all, I've recently come to realise I'm quite good at regulating my own well-being, and never take on more than I can tahan.
My friend Chris once asked me, if life is like a bento box, with many different sized compartments, how would my bento box look like? I recalled that my answer back then, I think probably now still stands, as more like a caifan box – with everything piled on top of each other messily. All the flavours of the gravy from each dish mixed in each other... that's what makes life more delicious, isn't it?
And since I just turned 34, a few people are asking if I would buy a flat when I turn 35 next year. I guess that would be the prudent thing to do?? But I just have no motivation to start looking into it yet.
However, recently a very vivid vision came to me, that would probably not be possible to do in my parents' house...

iPhone XR Review
Apple gave everyone a glimpse at the future of the iPhone with last year's iPhone X, positioning it at the top of its lineup. With a “notch” and Face ID, the iPhone X was the iPhone of the future, and it came with a price tag that required you to pay EMIs well into the future.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were meant to be the more accessible offerings, continuing Apple's “business as usual” model of delivering solid, incremental updates at prices that were only marginally higher than their predecessors.
With 2018, however, it seems the future is here, as Apple has gone all-in with the iPhone X (Review) design language across the entire lineup. For the second year in a row, we get not two but three new iPhone models, but this time, they all look pretty much the same — like the iPhone X, but at different sizes.
Physically, the iPhone XR₹ 47,900 sits between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. It's priced in iPhone 8 Plus territory, which means Apple has eliminated the iPhone 8 (Review) price band altogether. This makes this year's most affordable new iPhone nearly Rs. 13,000 more expensive than last year's point of entry, which seems to be in line with Apple's push to increase prices across all its product categories.
It's not all doom and gloom though, as the iPhone XR is available in a variety of colours, to make you forget the hole that buying one is likely to leave in your pocket. While the “most affordable” new iPhone of the year offers more colour options than its more expensive brethren, Apple has removed certain features from the iPhone XR in a bid to keep its cost low.
Does this make the iPhone XR a compromised device? That's what we aim to find out in our review.
iPhone XR design and display
The last time Apple brought colours to the iPhone lineup in any sort of meaningful way was with the poorly received iPhone 5c. Launched alongside the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 5c (Review) — just like the iPhone XR — was the most affordable new iPhone on offer. However, its price tag wasn't as low as everyone expected hoped it would be), and the fact that it shipped with older technology obviously didn't help.
Apple has managed to avoid the same trap with the iPhone XR by making sure it ticks the same boxes as its two more expensive siblings, at least as far as the most important specifications are concerned. All three phones are powered by the same SoC, have the same primary rear camera, and come with other modern technologies including Face ID (the iPhone 5c famously missed out on Touch ID, introduced with the iPhone 5s).
That's not to say the iPhone XR is just like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max₹ 99,265 in every respect. Its frame is made out of “aerospace-grade aluminium” compared to steel on the more expensive iPhone models, though it feels nearly as premium.
Both the front and the back of the iPhone XR are all glass, though Apple notes that only the front packs “the most durable glass ever in a smartphone”, so the back has to make do with something less expensive, like the second-most durable glass ever in a smartphone, perhaps. Both the fronts and the backs of the iPhone XS are iPhone XS Max have the aforementioned “most durable glass ever”. The iPhone XR is IP67 rated, just like the iPhone X, while the other two 2018 iPhone models are IP68 rated.
Physically, the iPhone XR sits between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, and while we believe the iPhone XS form factor is ideal for most people, the iPhone XR represents a possible middle ground for those looking to experiment with a bigger iPhone without stepping up all the way to the iPhone XS Max, which can be rather too much to handle.
The iPhone XR is wider than some of today's other popular large-screen Android smartphones and at 194g, it's certainly one of the heavier ones as well. It is also noticeably thicker than the two more premium iPhone models of 2018, and the bezels around its display are a little more pronounced than those of the iPhone XS, though most users won't be be bothered by the latter.
Where you will have to settle for last year's technology is the display itself — and it's not even display technology from last year's most expensive iPhone, as the iPhone XR uses the same LCD tech as the iPhone 8.
This means you miss out on the richer blacks that the OLED displays on the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max deliver. The LCD panel offers a lower contrast ratio and lacks HDR as well as Dolby Vision. That in itself isn't a huge deal, but the relatively low resolution (828x1792 pixels at 326ppi) also means that text doesn't look as sharp as it does on some other iPhone models — and, indeed, other smartphones out there. Unless you are making the move from an iPhone 8 or a really inexpensive smartphone, you will almost certainly notice that the quality is, at best, just about good enough.
“Just about good enough” is, of course, not what you expect when you pay north of Rs. 75,000 for a smartphone, especially when some phones that cost 10 percent of that amount sport higher-resolution displays. Granted, the panel on the iPhone XR is up there with the best LCD panels in other respects, including viewing angles and colour accuracy, but that doesn't take away from its relatively low resolution.
The other way in which Apple has cut costs is by eliminating 3D Touch. Some people probably won't even notice it's missing given that it wasn't always easy to discover its presence in older iPhone models to begin with. Some popular 3D Touch features such as the keyboard's trackpad mode and the ability to preview notifications have been implemented without 3D Touch, for those who did come to love those little touches.
The iPhone XR is available in yellow, white, coral, black, blue, and (Product) Red, which is a welcome change compared to the usual options available from Apple and other manufacturers. While we really appreciated the understated finish of our black review unit, we also quite liked the yellow and blue options in the brief time we spent with them at the global launch event.
iPhone XR performance, software, and battery life
The iPhone XR is powered by the same Apple A12 Bionic chip inside the iPhone XS duo, so it's no surprise that its performance is pretty similar. It handled everything that we threw at it with aplomb, something we've come to expect from a new iPhone, and indeed other smartphones in this price bracket.
PUBG Mobile defaults to the ‘High' frame rate and ‘HD' graphics settings, but we bumped them to ‘Ultra' and ‘HDR' respectively, and playing the game was still a pretty smooth experience. Extended sessions of games such as Asphalt 9: Legends were not a problem either, and we didn't run into any heating issues.
Benchmarks show that the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both have 4GB of RAM, while the iPhone XR has to make do with 3GB of RAM, the same as the iPhone X. While this didn't really prove to be a problem in our experience, it's something to bear in mind if you like your devices to be “future proof”, as would be the case with the more expensive iPhone XS duo.
For the first time, iPhones now feature dual-SIM support, but instead of adding a second physical SIM slot, Apple has taken the eSIM route. This means that unless you purchased your iPhone in China, Hong Kong, or Macau — where Apple sells “true” dual-SIM iPhone models — your iPhone XR, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max includes an embedded SIM that can be activated as and when desired, in addition to a regular physical SIM slot.
In theory, this is meant to make things more convenient by letting you switch from one provider to another without having to swap physical SIMs. In practice, however, it adds an unnecessary level of complication, at least in its current form.
For one, only select operators — Jio and Airtel, at the moment — support eSIMs in India. This means that if your second SIM is from Vodafone, Idea, or any other operator, you have no option but to port your number to one of the aforementioned duo, which might not be be possible (or desirable) for everyone. Second, even the operators that do support it, don't make it easy for you to get an eSIM activated.
You can't get a new number activated on an eSIM — with both Jio and Airtel, you need to go to a retail store, do the necessary paperwork, get a physical SIM, and then convert it to eSIM so its number can be used with your iPhone. That's like going to your neighbourhood store and mailing yourself what you just purchased to get the “e-commerce” experience.
At least some of that is down to India's KYC norms, more than any technological limitations, but from the end user's perspective, the experience is far from ideal.
Even if you already have a physical SIM with all KYC procedures completed, Reliance Jio requires (at least at the time of filing this review) you to go to one of its retail units to get your SIM converted to eSIM, which is the next level of bonkers.
Thankfully, if you are on Airtel, the experience is a little better. You can initiate the “conversion” of your physical SIM via a text message and then just follow instructions that you will receive via email. We found this part to be relatively hassle-free.
As for actually using the iPhone with two SIMs on a daily basis, the experience is pretty much in line with what you get with Android phones. By default, your physical SIM is labelled “Primary” and the eSIM “Secondary”, but you can change these to whatever you like.
You can have multiple “Data Plans” — as Apple calls them — attached to your eSIM, but only one of them can be active can any given time. The term Data Plan, of course, is a little bit misleading, as you can have a voice-only plan as well.
You need to designate one of these to be the “Default voice line”, and the same (or the other) needs to be the default line for mobile data. Both lines support 4G at the same time, and the iPhone will let you use mobile data from one line while you are on call using the other.
Call history in the Phone app will show a label indicating the line that was used for each call, and tapping the entry will dial that number or contact using the same line. When initiating a new call, you can choose which line to use via a dropdown at the top, with your default line already selected.
However, there seems to be no way to choose which line is used when composing a new SMS message, which seems to be a big oversight. Existing conversations in the Messages app will default to using whatever number was used last in that thread. (Edit for clarity: It's possible to choose which line to use if you've never exchanged messages with a number but once a conversation starts, there's no way to change the number being used.)
Only one of the two numbers can be associated with iMessage and FaceTime at any given time, which is also a bit of a disappointment.
iOS of course also doesn't have the “dual apps” capability that some Android OEMs have added, which means you can run only one instance of apps like WhatsApp, further limiting your dual-SIM experience. You can use either of the numbers with WhatsApp and other services.
The iPhone XR offers the same “wider stereo playback” as the more expensive iPhone XS duo, and the resulting sound is pretty impressive. However, the iPhone XR lacks the “Gigabit-class LTE” found in the other two new iPhone models. This might be a problem some day, but that day isn't coming anytime soon given the pitiful state of networks in our country.
Though iOS 12 brings a host of new features, the experience using of using an iPhone in countries like India is less than ideal due to the features that apps like Apple Maps lack in these regions, something we've noted time and again. We encourage you to read our iOS 12 review to read our thoughts about new features including Screen Time, Shortcuts, and more that will greatly enhance how you use your iPhone.
In terms of battery life, our real-world experience was pretty similar to what we got with iPhone XS Max, in that the iPhone XR easily lasted us a full day, even when our workload was heavier than usual. In our HD video loop test, the iPhone XR lasted an impressive 13 hours and 19 minutes.
Though the iPhone XR is “fast-charge capable”, according to Apple, the company provides no fast charger in the box, which is a big disappointment. Wireless charging is supported.
iPhone XR cameras
The iPhone used to be the best camera phone in business, but that probably hasn't been the case since the days of the iPhone 6 Plus. It started with companies like Samsung taking a lead in low-light camera performance, and since then we've seen the likes of Huawei and Google surpass Apple when it comes to building a phone that's a solid overall performer when it comes to still photography.
Google has been somewhat of a flag bearer in this department with its Pixel range of flagships. While all three generations of Pixel phones might have been plagued by a host of reliability issues, there's been no denying their photography chops.
Even as other manufactures have relied on two, three, and even four sensors in a bid to deliver better image quality — often with mixed results — Google has stuck to a single sensor, while doubling down on machine learning algorithms to enhance the resulting images.
Given Google's success with this approach, it's no surprise to see Apple and others go down the same path, even if it seems that Cupertino is merely dipping its toes instead of going all-in. While the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max continue to feature dual rear cameras, the iPhone XR packs only one sensor at the back.
This, pardon the pun, serves dual purposes. First, it obviously reduces the cost of the more “affordable” iPhone XR, but more importantly, it gives Apple a device with which it can experiment a bit with its machine learning approach to photography.
As we noted in our iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max review, the more expensive duo also rely on machine learning in the form of Smart HDR to deliver great images, but the iPhone XR takes this a step further. Similar to the Google Pixel 3 and a bunch of other phones, the iPhone XR uses machine learning to offer Portrait Mode with the rear camera, which was earlier limited to iPhone models with dual rear cameras.
Even with a single rear camera, the iPhone XR does a good job when it comes to edge detection and the Bokeh effect in portrait mode, but it's not as good as the results we saw with the iPhone XS. We also noticed that some portraits taken with the iPhone XR had less detail compared to similar shots taken by the iPhone XS.
In the absence of a telephoto lens with 2X zoom, we noticed that we needed to be physically closer (than with the iPhone X/ XS/ XS Max) to the subjects of our shots to activate portrait mode. The resulting shots are actually wider, since the standard lens is being used rather than a narrow telephoto lens. You do get Portrait Lighting modes as well, though you are limited to three modes — Natural, Studio, and Contour — with Stage and Stage Mono still exclusive to iPhone models with dual rear cameras. Also note that portrait mode on the iPhone XR will work best with humans and not animals or objects, since the machine learning algorithms have been optimised for the former. In all respects aside from the obviously missing 2x telephoto lens, the performance of the iPhone XR's camera is identical to that of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which is to say it's now up there with the best in the business. Read our reviews of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, as well as our comparison of the iPhone XS with some of today's best Android smartphone cameras, for more details.VerdictLet's go back to the question that we started with: is the iPhone XR a compromised device? It isn't; not in ways that would matter to most users. While we are not fans of its display, it does its job without being particularly great. In other areas such as performance and camera quality, the iPhone XR more than holds its own, and is a match for the more expensive iPhone models as well as other flagship phones. That brings us to its price. We've made it abundantly clear that we are not fans of the upward trend that we've seen across the entire range of Apple products. As we noted in our iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max review, even with the promise of regular software updates and better resale value, it's getting increasingly difficult to justify the price tags that Apple's phones command. With a starting price of Rs. 76,900, the iPhone XR isn't exactly a bargain, but it's better value for money than the iPhone XS, and certainly the iPhone XS Max. Heck, even the speaker grille at the bottom is symmetrical, so it shows no one was napping at the wheels while designing this one.Though Apple has discontinued the iPhone X in some markets, it's still very much around in India and available at pretty much the same starting price as the iPhone XR. As much as love the display on the iPhone X, the camera improvements that Smart HDR brings tilt the balance in favour of the newer iPhone, which also brings other niceties like dual-SIM support and a faster processor. The iPhone X is only for those who truly value the deeper blacks on the AMOLED display or are put off by the size of the iPhone XR, and cannot afford the iPhone XS.If you don't mind looking beyond the iPhone, recent months have seen the launch of plenty of great Android flagships including the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (Review) and Huawei Mate 20 Pro (Review), as well as a host of other phones earlier in the year. Or you could go pick up a “value flagship” like the OnePlus 6T (Review) and save a bunch of money in the process. With that said, a new round of Android flagships is just around the corner as well, so you won't have to wait too long if nothing catches your fancy right now.

But if you are looking for a high-end flagship 5G phone to buy in 2020 in a compact size then the Galaxy S20 is the right choice for you. The Galaxy S20 doesn’t miss out any major feature from the S20 Ultra except that witty 100x zoom lens and the battery size. Rest of the specs remain the same.
The S20 has 6.2 inches of QHD+ dynamic AMOLED display with a 120 HZ of high refresh rate. The phone has a 4000 mAh of battery which can be charged with its 25W fast charging. It has IP 68 water rating, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging ou name any flagship feature its already in the S20.

This is by far the most innovative phone by Samsung. The phone has Snapdragon 865+ 5G Soc making it one of the first phones to get the higher-end variant of snapdragon 865.
Tumblr media
The Z flip has 6.70 inches of FHD+ AMOLED display which is foldable. It also features a 1.10-inch as its second display which can be helpful to check the notifications at a glance. The Z flip packs a 3300 mAh of battery that should last a day easily.
There is a dual 12 MP camera at the back and a 10 MP camera at the front. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G runs One UI 2.0 based on Android 10. The phone packs 256GB of inbuilt storage. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that doubles as a power button.
The Z flip 5G is the most unique and innovative phone in this list of best 5G phones in 2020. Overall the design of the phone is very unique and the look and in-hand feel of the phone is very much premium. The phone is priced at Rs. 108,990.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G Review
Tumblr media
The Samsung Galaxy Watch has been one of our favourite wearables since we reviewed it last year. It has a beautiful design, a useful rotating bezel, and impressive battery life for the kind of functionality it offers. We felt a moment of deja vu when we unboxed the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G, which the company just recently sent to us for review. Samsung only launched the 4G variant of the Galaxy Watch in India in October this year, even though the rest of the world got their hands on it along with the non-LTE model back in 2018. At the time, e-SIMs were not widely available in India, which could have prompted Samsung to delay the launch. Now that the Galaxy Watch 4G is fully functional in India, should you buy one? We review the Galaxy Watch 4G to find out.
Tumblr media
The Galaxy Watch 4G has two buttons on the right side
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G design
Since the Galaxy Watch 4G is just a variant of the Galaxy Watch, its design is identical to that of the unit we have already reviewed, and you can read about that in detail right here. It still is one of the best designed watches we've reviewed. This variant, the Galaxy Watch 4G, also comes in two sizes: 42mm and 46mm. If you opt for the smaller one you can choose between Black and Rose Gold, whereas the bigger size is available in Silver only. We have the 46mm variant for this review. We still find the rotating bezel helpful for navigating through the menus, and we like its clicky design. This helps us know exactly the amount of input we've dialled in. The 1.3-inch AMOLED display is seated lower than the bezel and has Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ to help prevent scratches. We liked this display as it was crisp and bright enough to be visible outdoors. There are two buttons on the right side of the device, both of which have a textured pattern making them easy to distinguish. The upper one is the Back button, while the other is the Home button. Below the Home button is a microphone which can be used for taking calls on the watch. The left side of the watch has only a speaker.
Tumblr media
The heart-rate scanner at the back is accurate. On the bottom, you'll find the heart-rate sensor and the hardware for wireless charging. The wireless charger in the box remains the same as the one we used with the Galaxy Watch. It still has a Micro-USB port, but an update to USB Type-C would've been appreciated. The Galaxy Watch 4G is IP68 rated and is water-resistant up to 5ATM. Our 46mm Galaxy Watch came with a 22mm watch band made out of silicone. It was easy to remove and can be replaced by any band of the same size. We found the stock band comfortable even when we were sweating.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G specifications and software
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G uses Samsung's Exynos 9110 SoC, which is a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The Galaxy Watch has 1.5GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage which can be used to store music and apps. The Galaxy Watch also lets you pair Bluetooth headphones to it directly, eliminating the need for a smartphone in daily use (though you still need one to set it up). The Galaxy Watch 4G runs Samsung's Wearable OS which is based on Tizen. It can be paired with Android as well as iOS devices. In terms of app support we found it to be limited compared to Google's Wear OS and Apple's WatchOS. Samsung has tried to reduce reliance on third-party apps by offering lots of features right out of the box. In terms of connectivity, the watch has Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, NFC, A-GPS, Glonass, and 4G LTE. It also has an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, heart rate sensor, and ambient light sensor. The underlying software is identical to what we used when we reviewed the Galaxy Watch late last year, so we recommend that you check that review for details. The Galaxy Watch 4G's cellular connectivity needs to be set up using the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone. In India, only Airtel and Reliance Jio offer e-SIM functionality so you'll need to have a subscription with either provider for 4G connectivity on the watch.
Tumblr media
LTE lets you take calls right on the watch. We used our Galaxy Watch 4G with a Jio e-SIM which was easy to set up. The SIM card needs to be inserted into the smartphone you use to set up the watch. The watch smartly switches off its own 4G capabilities when paired with a smartphone, and back on when you move out of range. You can override this and keep the watch connected to a 4G network at all times, but this will have an impact on battery life.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 4G performance and battery life
Samsung's AMOLED display on the Galaxy Watch 4G is vivid and has good viewing angles. Screen brightness is adjusted automatically based on surrounding lighting conditions. The bezel makes navigating easy, and we liked the simple UI of the smartwatch. We did not notice any lag or stutter while using the Galaxy Watch 4G, and the overall experience was snappy. In fact, we found it snappier than the Apple Watch Series 5 (Review), which we tested recently. The Galaxy Watch packs in quite a few fitness features, so for example, we were reminded to move if we sat at our desks for a while. This is a very handy feature that could help you avoid sitting without any movement for too long. When we stepped out for a walk, the device would automatically detect this and begin logging our steps. We walked 1,000 steps and the Galaxy Watch 4G registered 990 which is an acceptable deviation, though we have seen better results from other devices such as the Amazfit Bip Lite which we recently reviewed. The Galaxy Watch 4G also tracks heart-rate all the time, and is set to measure it at 10-minute intervals by default. You can change this to Always-on, but it will decrease your battery life. One neat touch that we noticed was that the watch would automatically switch to continuous heart-rate tracking during workouts, saving us the effort of doing so. Heart-rate tracking was accurate when we compared this device against an Apple Watch Series 5.
Tumblr media
Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4G does step-counting accurately. Since the Galaxy Watch 4G has in-built GPS and cellular connectivity, we left our paired smartphone behind and went for a walk. After walking a distance that we know to be exactly 1km, the Galaxy Watch 4G reported it as 1.02km which is very good. Sleep tracking was also accurate, and the Galaxy Watch 4G could log our sleep and wake-up times correctly. However, we didn't like wearing the watch while sleeping, as it was neither as compact nor light as the Amazfit Bip Lite (Review) or fitness bands such as the Mi Band 4 (Review) and the Honor Band 5 (Review). Battery life on the Galaxy Watch 4G will vary based on how you use the different features of the device. Using it straight out of the box with 4G set to auto, without the always-on display feature, with heart-rate tracking set to 10-minute intervals, and constantly connected to our Samsung Galaxy S10+ (Review) device, it lasted us for about four days. During this time we were constantly checking notifications on the watch. When we switched on 4G, enabled the always-on display and took a few calls through the device, battery life went down to just two days. Charging took a long time. This wearable device charges to 35 percent in an hour and takes close to three hours to be charged completely. Verdict We are reviewing this 4G variant of the Galaxy Watch about a year after we reviewed the Wi-Fi variant, and not much has changed in the wearables space since then. WearOS has still not managed to make any huge strides, and while the Apple Watch Series 5 does manage to do a lot, it is limited to working only with Apple devices, and commands a premium. The 42mm variant of Galaxy Watch 4G is priced at Rs. 28,490 while the bigger 46mm variant is priced at Rs.30,990. At these prices, the Galaxy Watch 4G does not have a lot of competition. Irrespective of cost though, Android users should only pick the Galaxy Watch 4G if they need cellular connectivity on a smartwatch. Samsung should consider bringing the cellular variant of the newer Galaxy Watch Active 2 to India, giving buyers more options to choose from. Read the full article

Nowadays everyone is using Smart Phones and since Jio has come, their purchase has become very fast. Where can it go that in the coming future, there will be a lot of growth in the area of Mobiles Phone. If seen from this part, opening a mobile shop will be very profitable business, for this you will not need much capital. With just a small shop you can start it and some good smart phones which are being liked very much like - Red mi is almost all of its phones you will get in your budget at a very low price and their performance is better It happens. Apart from this, you have many more phones that you can keep in your shop.First you have to start from a small shop, after that you will be able to increase the shop as the income increases. All you have to do is to get whatever income you have for 5 to 6 months after opening the mobile shop or even more than that and spend it back on the same shop and make it grow. Believe it is a very simple rule using which you can pursue any business.According to a figure, about 1 billion 42 million 53 thousand 328 mobile phones were being used in India till April 30, 2019, which is the second largest number of mobile phone use figures in the world in terms of using China mobile phones. First place is there, that means every person has a mobile, now there must be a doubt in your mind that if all the people have mobile then who will buy new mobile We have an argument to clear your doubts. You must have often seen that a person has more than one mobile or at least two or three mobiles. Once a person using a mobile phone can never use this service even for a day. Don't want to be deprived of And mobile phones are bad and they also involve new technology by companies over time, so the mobile shop business is a continuous business and as far as I am saying it is a non-ending business. Is that this is a business that is going to run from generation to generationow to Start Mobile Shop Business )To start a mobile shop business, first of all you have to get a shop at RENT. Currently most of the mobile shops are where there is a lot of crowd, the entrepreneur should rent his shop in a place where local customers Along with it, we can also target the online customer, that is where the courier service of various companies is available, the entrepreneurs are able to further their mobile phone business on their own or with various e-commerce companies.Normally 10 * 15 square feet of space is enough to start a small mobile shop, the rent of which can vary according to the urban Ya Rural area. Counter, cupboard to decorate the Rent Shop to start a mobile phone business. And glass driver, chair, computer or laptop, air condition equipment will be required to be decorative as well as Attractive Transparency is necessary because if this happens then the customers who are there will be more attractive and in this case your mobile phone is more Will sellFully brand selection care in mobile businessIf you are starting the business of mobile shop, then for this you will have to do a thorough market research, before picking up the stock of mobile, try to select some brands that have all the above facilities available in a single mobile also means that you mobile Let's take stock that is multitasking, that means not only megapixels will work, but along with that, battery life also has to be seen.To know better about a mobile, you can follow a site like gsmarena.com, you can follow all the features about each mobile in Insights are well given, along with the features you will be trending (which is more in trend Ho) You will also have to keep information about the mobile which is quite popular in the market and if a new phone has been launched, then you should keep the same mobile in your shop, whose demand is more in your market.See it is very important in BUSINESS PLAN wherein according to your local AREA you have to divide your market into different categories and DECIDE that in which category of goods you have to pick up and how much to invest, according to the location with you Can do market segmentation likeHow much to invest and how much stock to raiseNow as I have told you above how to do market segmentation, now I tell you how much to invest, now imagine that you live in a LOCAL CITY OR TOWN where people are more interested in business, then in your shop You can keep the steps of high price mobiles if students are more in your locality, that means you have to take stock of new trend mobiles like LIKE mobile camera high pixel,Internet high facility, more RAM memory, more battery backup, this means you have to do thorough market research and after that you have to pick up the stocks in your mobile shop, you will have this money invested in the right place
