Titan History: Godzilla
Welcome once again to Monarch: After Dark, the digital gateway between you and the organisation dedicated to understanding and navigating this troubled new world we live in.
For today's communication, it was decided by Monarch officials stationed at Castle Bravo (Outpost 54) that we should create an updated historical account on arguably the most recognisable and infamous of the Titans we currently know of; Godzilla.
(Pictured above: aerial footage of Godzilla leaving San Francisco the morning after G-Day, circa. 2014)
Monarch Database File: Godzilla
Monarch Designation: Titanus Gojira
Height: 393 feet
Weight: 99,634 tons
Length: 582 feet (tail)
Nature: Bio-Atomic
Behavioural Classification: Protector
---------------
A member of an ancient reptilian species that was known to exist as early as the Permian period, Godzilla serves as a guardian of the natural order, rising from the depths whenever the balance of the world is threatened, be it by other Titans or by humanity. Newfound information has revealed that, at some point in their early history, the Titanus Gojira species waged war against a population of great apes within the Hollow Earth. The outcome was victory for the former, while the latter migrated to a surface landmass that would become Skull Island, where they would face near-extinction.
Throught the millenia, imagery of these Titans showed their defense of humanity against other Titans, including the seemingly extraterrestrial lifeform, "Monster Zero". These battles were documented well, immortialised in the form of cave paintings and tales passed down through the generations.
(Pictured above: Cave painting documenting a battle between Godzilla and Monster Zero, circa. 1973)
While much of the history surrounding the individual we know today as Godzilla is unknown, his modern history is far clearer. First discovered in 1954 by founding Monarch figures William Randa, Keiko Muira and Leland Shaw, the initial reaction to the Titan's existence was an attempt to kill it using a nuclear weapon. Covered up as the Castle Bravo nuclear test, it was believed that Godzilla had been killed until he resurfaced a year later in Hateruma Island.
His next widely documented appearance was the infamous G-Day in 2014. Tracking down a mating pair of Titanus Jinshin-Mushi (aka MUTOs), Godzilla battled and eventually killed them in San Francisco, though not without extensive damage done to the city and the Golden Gate Bridge beforehand. Months later, he battled with a Jinshin-Mushi Prime, which resulted in the Prime destroying his dorsal plates before she, too, was killed.
According to Keiko Muira, and her grandchildren Cate and Kentaro Randa, who were recovered on Skull Island in 2017 through an "in-between" realm linking the surface to the Hollow Earth, Godzilla responded to a Gamma Radiation Simulator abandoned in the 1960's and battled a large dragon-like creature before they were able to escape. Their account is currently under Monarch investigation.
(Pictured above: Godzilla using an "intimidation display" in front of Monarch's Castle Bravo crew, circa. 2019)
In 2019, a mass Titan outbreak instigated by eco-terrorist Alan Jonah and Monarch paleobiologist Emma Russell called Godzilla to action once again. He first appeared in front of Castle Bravo, where he prepared to attack before the outpost lowered its weapons and calmed him down. He made way to Antarctica, where Monster Zero had recently been awakened. The two battled before the latter Titan retreated.
They clashed again off the coast of Isla de Mara, Mexico, where Godzilla succeeded in tearing off one of Monster Zero's heads. Before this battle could end, likely in Godzilla's favour, the military deployed an experimental superweapon called the Oxygen Destroyer, which severely weakened Godzilla and allowed Monster Zero to escape and regenerate its missing head before usurping control over Earth's Titans.
Their final battle took place in Boston following an evacuation of the city. Godzilla had support from an ally Titan known as Mothra to battle Monster Zero and its own ally, Rodan. The battle ravaged much of Boston, and culminated in Godzilla being dropped from the troposphere and Mothra being killed by a powerful blast from Monster Zero. With some assistance from Monarch and a final gift from Mothra, Godzilla achieved a heightened state of power and caused a thermonuclear explosion that destroyed Boston, and Monster Zero.
Following the battle, other Titans gathered around and bowed before Godzilla, accepting him as their new alpha. In the interim between this and the next major incident, Godzilla would travel the globe and keep other Titans, such as Scylla and Amhuluk, in check.
(Pictured above: Godzilla surrounded by other Titans, bowing down and accepting his claim as the alpha Titan, circa. 2019)
Following a period of minimal Titan activity, Godzilla suddenly surfaced in Pensacola, Florida and destroyed an Apex Cybernetics facility before returning to the depths. In response to this, a joint operation between Monarch and Apex went underway to use another Titan, Kong, to track down an energy source that would give humanity the edge over Godzilla before he could hurt more people.
Godzilla and Kong clashed twice. Their first battle took place in he Tasman Sea, where Godzilla intercepted a naval fleet transporting Kong to Antarctica. This encounter was short-lived, and only a last-ditch effort by ex-Monarch agent Nathan Lind prevented Kong from being killed. Their second brawl in Hong Kong placed Kong on better footing, armed with an axe he obtained within the Hollow Earth, though Godzilla still prevailed and nearly killed Kong.
However, deception from Apex allowed them to siphon the energy from the Hollow Earth into a secret anti-Titan weapon, Mechagodzilla. After losing control of the mecha, it went on a rampage and battled a weary Godzilla nearly to death before a resuscitated Kong intervened. Working together, the two Titans triumphed over Mechagodzilla and parted ways without further conflict.
(Pictured above: Godzilla departing Hong Kong following Mechagodzilla's defeat. To date, this is the last confirmed sighting of Godzilla, circa. 2024)
---------------
And there you go! A simplified but up-to-date account of Godzilla's modern history. We will upload more information regarding him as we are authorized to do so by Monarch officials. We hope you have learned something from this historical account, and we will be back shortly with new information.
Until next time,
Monarch: After Dark

Tell me about Mitorin~
The leader in the coup d'état against the Fujiwara dynasty, Grand Field Marshal of the Imperial Military, founder of the Ooama dynasty, the current Emperor of Devanagara, and the great reformer of the capital.
The Throne Dyed in Vermillion — Ooama no Ake no Mitori
Historical Inspiration: Emperor Tenmu
Mitori is, at least loosely, based on the 40th Emperor of Japan, Emperor Tenmu (天武天皇).
Birthname Prince Ooama (大海人 great sea person), although written differently from Mitori's self-given Ooama (大天 great heaven), he ascended to the throne as Emperor Tenmu when he took it from his nephew in the Jinshin War, where his nephew committed suicide. This war is likely what Mitori's coup is based on.
In addition, his empress consort was his niece Princess Uno-no-sasara, on who Sanra is based. After Tenmu's death, she would succeed him as 41th Empress Jitō (持統天皇). Mitori's close relationship with Sanra is likely based on this as well.
While sometimes attributed to Jitō instead, it is said that Tenmu was the first to change the title of the ruling monarch of Japan from "Great King" (大王) to "Heavenly Emperor" (天王). This is mirrored in Mitori changing the title from "Imperial Emperor" (皇帝) to "Heavenly Emperor".
Tenmu is particularly known for his advocating of Buddhism in his later years, especially when compared with previous monarchs. This connection to Buddhism may have inspired Devanagara's own drawing heavy inspiration from the religion.
Backstory: Fujiwara no Mitori
Mitori was born under known circumstances, and how they came to be adopted by the last Fujiwara Emperor as their own child is similarly unknown. Nevertheless, the Emperor adopted them and named them 3rd in line for the throne.
Their true name was revealed through divination to be Mitori (壬鳥), and they were officially named Fujiwara no Mitori.
In "Mitori", mi (壬) is the 9th celestial stem that is also found in the title of Tenmu's Jinshin War (壬申の乱), where it indicates the year the war took place in; tori (鳥) means bird, which tells us that Mitori is a true holder of a Bird's Name.
Backstory: Growing Up
Growing up as Fujiwara no Mitori, their parents were dismissive and they were always treated with false kindness, by people trying to curry favour from the Emperor through them. Already Mitori had begun their disillusionment with the current state Devanagara was in, as well as the ruling Fujiwara Dynasty.
Although they wouldn't know this yet, this was only possible because the Great Mirror's ability to reverse thoughts of rebellion into that of support had been mysteriously turned off. (Latest in Mitori's childhood, likely further before that.)
But Mitori's life was not without joy, they found a true and loyal companion in their adoptive sibling, the 5th-in-line Fujiwara no Sanra. They're essentially childhood friends, having been together for most of their lives, even going to military school together.
In addition, they also befriended the crown heir Fujiwara no Iyozane. However, seeing the toll the conspiracy to keep them under house arrest had taken on them, Mitori and Iyozane agreed to kill the latter by poison. "Freeing" them from their imprisonment.
This is likely also partially inspired by the Jinshin War, where the successor to the throne was made the commit suicide by one later down the line of succession. Although in Mitori and Iyozane's case, this was carried out amicably.
Finally, hearing of a commoner's particularly skillful swordplay, they summoned Kunimitsu Ooya to the palace and befriended them as well. Gaining another valuable ally.
Backstory: Coup D'état
After climbing the Pagoda of the Heavenly Mirror and learning the truth about their birth from the mirror, they became entirely disillusioned with the current state of the capital.
Plotting a coup with the help of Sanra, Kunimitsu, Kaoru Kashiwagi as well as a yet undisclosed person, they finally launched their plan not long before BPoHC, which went without a hitch.
While never having planned to become Emperor themself, Mitori saw that no one else was ready and fit for the role, so they stepped up and took the throne. Renaming themself Ooama no Mitori, starting the Ooama dynasty; and granting themself the courtesy name Ake, and Sanra the name Shirogane.
Now as Ooama no Ake no Mitori, they carried out a series of reforms in the capital, leading it to the state we currently see in BPoHC.
Name: Ooama no Ake no Mitori
In Ooama no Ake no Mitori (大天 朱 壬鳥), the courtesy name "Ake" (朱 vermillion) acts as a title that's a part of one's official name, so it could be understood as "Ooama no Mitori, the Vermilion".
It's quite interesting to consider what may have inspired Mitori to go for the title of "Vermillion". Perhaps as a reference to their bloody coup, or as a reference to their outfit, predominantly red, or perhaps as a reference to their bloodline that people value ever so much.
As Sanra demonstrates, when given a courtesy name, one is to give it precedence over their own surname. In Ake no Mitori (朱 壬鳥), ignoring the "no" that indicates belonging and taking an alternate reading of 朱 as "aka", we get akamitori. This is a possible reading of Shuchō (朱鳥), the era name under the reigns of Emperor Tenmu and Jitō.
朱鳥, when read as suzaku in Japanese, refers to the Vermillion Bird of the Four Symbols from Chinese mythology. This gives Mitori a double Bird's Name, although the validity of a self-given Bird's Name is unclear.
Fast-forward to after the Heaven-Shadow War, Mitori seems to be in a pretty good place. They seem to learn that Iyozane is alive, no matter the route taken, they're well-loved by their subjects, and their ambitions to literally take over the world seems to have been dialed back a bit.
I wish I had more to say about them, but their story as Emperor had just begun and it's hard to tell where their path will take them. Instead, let's look forward to whatever they'll get up to Golden Chapter~! :)
#len'en project#len'en#ooama no ake no mitori#fujiwara no iyozane#fujiwara no shirogane no sanra#it kept trying to correct Sanra to Santa#fitting for the season I suppose

I really don't see what the Godzilla/Kong War did for the Monsterverse:
Leaving aside that both species already had nasty unpleasant archenemies that were plenty capable of eradicating their species (Skullcrawlers and Jinshin-Mushi), the previous film established that humanity controlled and weaponized Titans.
My personal view of the war idea was that Godzilla didn't want to be anyone's lap-Kaiju and was not popular in the past for it (where Dagon, as the name indicates, was a very different Titanus Gojira and in this sense a puppet king of the Titans). Godzilla and the Kongs were on the same side, and then Ghidorah shows up and Godzilla, at first, very stupidly thought Ghidorah intended 'freedom' in the sense other than the Joker in The Dark Knight went told 'Let her go.'
And then it turned out Ghidorah was obviously evil all along and Godzilla locked him in ice and the Kongs blamed Godzilla for a mess he largely did make into what it was and it turned out it was a really bad idea to pick a fight with the guy who beat the Death Song of Three Storms.
It fits in with what the first films established without having to anthropomorphize the Kaiju too much, and also keeping the idea of the Titans as deities.

Are there any records of who Kawakatsu's relatives are? cant seem to find any.
Interesting topic! I haven’t actually seen direct mentions of Kawakatsu’s family in any legends about Shotoku. Most of what I know boils down to people claiming descent from him much later. Koryu-ji ha a statue of him and his wife, but I can’t find any information about her otherwise. Japanese wikipedia claims Kawakatsu had at least 4 children, and one of his sons took part in the Jinshin war, also. Most notably, according to Secrecy in Japanese Arts: “Secret Transmission” as a Mode of Knowledge (p. 52-53), the famous playwright Zeami believed himself to be a descendant of Kawakatsu, and had his son take the surname Hata. At the very least the idea that Kawakatsu had children must’ve been accepted by people aware of his existence for what it’s worth...? Going by Zeami’s writing, his family descended a man known as Hata no Ujiyasu, a direct descendant of Kawakatsu, but sources I found disagree about whether Ujiyasu was Zeami’s creation or a historical figure (it’s also virtually impossible to provide direct evidence in favor of this claim even if Ujiyasu was a real person). Secrecy in Japanese Arts considers him made up, but Six Circles, One Dewdrop: The Religio-Aesthetic World of Komparu Zenchiku (p. 13) concludes he was a historical figure, and likely a performer in the court of emperor Murakami (but even then, there’s a gap of 3 centuries between him and Kawakatsu...).

Classical era History
Buddhism was introduced to Japan from Baekje, Korea and was promoted by Prince Shōtoku, but the subsequent development of Japanese Buddhism was primarily influenced by China.
Due to the defeat in Battle of Baekgang by Chinese Tang empire, the Japanese government devised and implemented the far-reaching Taika Reforms. The Reform began with land reform, based on Confucian ideas and philosophies from China. It nationalized all land in Japan, to be distributed equally among cultivators, and ordered the compilation of a household registry as the basis for a new system of taxation. The true aim of the reforms was to bring about greater centralization and to enhance the power of the imperial court, which was also based on the governmental structure of China. Envoys and students were dispatched to China to learn seemingly everything from the Chinese writing system, literature, religion, and architecture, to even dietary habits at this time. Even today, the impact of the reforms can still be seen in Japanese cultural life. After the reforms, the Jinshin War of 672, a bloody conflict between Prince Ōama and his nephew Prince Ōtomo, two rivals to the throne, became a major catalyst for further administrative reforms. These reforms culminated with the promulgation of the Taihō Code, which consolidated existing statutes and established the structure of the central government and its subordinate local governments. These legal reforms created the ritsuryō state, a system of Chinese-style centralized government that remained in place for half a millennium.
The Nara period marked an emergence of the centralized Japanese state centered on the Imperial Court in Heijō-kyō. The Nara period is characterized by the appearance of a nascent literature as well as the development of Buddhist-inspired art and architecture. The smallpox epidemic of 735–737 is believed to have killed as much as one-third of Japan's population. In 784, Emperor Kanmu moved the capital from Nara to Nagaoka-kyō, then to Heian-kyō (modern Kyoto) in 794.
This marked the beginning of the Heian period, during which a distinctly indigenous Japanese culture emerged, noted for its art, poetry and prose. Murasaki Shikibu's The Tale of Genji and the lyrics of Japan's national anthem "Kimigayo" were written during this time.

The kanji that make up Japan’s name mean “sun origin”, and it is often called the “Land of the Rising Sun”. Japan is a stratovolcanic archipelago consisting of about 6,852 islands. The four largest are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, which make up about ninety-seven percent of Japan’s land area and often are referred to as home islands. The country is divided into 47 prefectures in eight regions, with Hokkaido being the northernmost prefecture and Okinawa being the southernmost one. Japan is the 2nd most populous island country. The population of 127 million is the world’s eleventh largest, of which 98.5% are ethnic Japanese. 90.7% of people live in cities, while 9.3% live in the countryside.[16] About 13.8 million people live in Tokyo,[17] the capital of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world with over 38 million people.[18] Archaeological research indicates that Japan was inhabited as early as the Upper Paleolithic period. The first written mention of Japan is in Chinese history texts from the 1st century AD. Influence from other regions, mainly China, followed by periods of isolation, particularly from Western Europe, has characterized Japan’s history. From the 12th century until 1868, Japan was ruled by successive feudal military shōguns who ruled in the name of the Emperor. Japan entered into a long period of isolation in the early 17th century, which was ended in 1853 when a United States fleet pressured Japan to open to the West. After nearly two decades of internal conflict and insurrection, the Imperial Court regained its political power in 1868 through the help of several clans from Chōshū and Satsuma – and the Empire of Japan was established. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, victories in the First Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War and World War I allowed Japan to expand its empire during a period of increasing militarism. The Second Sino-Japanese War of 1937 expanded into part of World War II in 1941, which came to an end in 1945 following the Japanese surrender. Since adopting its revised constitution on May 3, 1947, during the occupation led by SCAP, the sovereign state of Japan has maintained a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy with an Emperor and an elected legislature called the National Diet. Japan is a member of the ASEAN Plus mechanism, UN, the OECD, the G7, the G8, and the G20, and is considered a great power.[19][20][21] Its economy is the world’s third-largest by nominal GDP and the fourth-largest by purchasing power parity. It is also the world’s fourth-largest exporter and fourth-largest importer. Japan benefits from a highly skilled and educated workforce; it has among the world’s largest proportion of citizens holding a tertiary education degree.[22] Although it has officially renounced its right to declare war, Japan maintains a modern military with the world’s eighth-largest military budget,[23] used for self-defense and peacekeeping roles; it ranked as the world’s fourth most-powerful military in 2015.[24] Japan is a highly developed country with a very high standard of living and Human Development Index. Its population enjoys the highest life expectancy and third lowest infant mortality rate in the world, but is experiencing issues due to an aging population and low birthrate. Japan is renowned for its historical and extensive cinema, influential music industry, anime, video gaming, rich cuisine and its major contributions to science and modern technology.[25][26] culture around 30,000 BC constitutes the first known habitation of the Japanese archipelago. This was followed from around 14,000 BC (the start of the Jōmon period) by a Mesolithic to Neolithic semi-sedentary hunter-gatherer culture characterized by pit dwelling and rudimentary agriculture,[42] including by ancestors of contemporary Ainu people and Yamato people.[43][44] Decorated clay vessels from this period are some of the oldest surviving examples of pottery in the world. Around 300 BC, the Yayoi people began to enter the Japanese islands, intermingling with the Jōmon.[45] The Yayoi period, starting around 500 BC, saw the introduction of practices like wet-rice farming,[46] a new style of pottery[47] and metallurgy, introduced from China and Korea.[48] Japan first appears in written history in the Chinese Book of Han.[49] According to the Records of the Three Kingdoms, the most powerful kingdom on the archipelago during the third century was called Yamataikoku. Buddhism was introduced to Japan from Baekje, Korea and was promoted by Prince Shōtoku, but the subsequent development of Japanese Buddhism was primarily influenced by China.[50] Despite early resistance, Buddhism was promoted by the ruling class and gained widespread acceptance beginning in the Asuka period (592–710).[51] Due to the defeat in Battle of Baekgang by Chinese Tang empire, the Japanese government devised and implemented the far-reaching Taika Reforms. The Reform began with land reform, based on Confucian ideas and philosophies from China. It nationalized all land in Japan, to be distributed equally among cultivators, and ordered the compilation of a household registry as the basis for a new system of taxation.[52] The true aim of the reforms was to bring about greater centralization and to enhance the power of the imperial court, which was also based on the governmental structure of China. Envoys and students were dispatched to China to learn seemingly everything from the Chinese writing system, literature, religion, and architecture, to even dietary habits at this time. Even today, the impact of the reforms can still be seen in Japanese cultural life. After the reforms, the Jinshin War of 672, a bloody conflict between Prince Ōama and his nephew Prince Ōtomo, two rivals to the throne, became a major catalyst for further administrative reforms.[53] These reforms culminated with the promulgation of the Taihō Code, which consolidated existing statutes and established the structure of the central government and its subordinate local governments.[52] These legal reforms created the ritsuryō state, a system of Chinese-style centralized government that remained in place for half a millennium.[53] The Nara period (710–784) marked an emergence of the centralized Japanese state centered on the Imperial Court in Heijō-kyō (modern Nara). The Nara period is characterized by the appearance of a nascent literature as well as the development of Buddhist-inspired art and architecture.[54] The smallpox epidemic of 735–737 is believed to have killed as much as one-third of Japan’s population.[55] In 784, Emperor Kanmu moved the capital from Nara to Nagaoka-kyō, then to Heian-kyō (modern Kyoto) in 794. This marked the beginning of the Heian period (794–1185), during which a distinctly indigenous Japanese culture emerged, noted for its art, poetry and prose. Murasaki Shikibu’s The Tale of Genji and the lyrics of Japan’s national anthem “Kimigayo” were written during this time.[56] Buddhism began to spread during the Heian era chiefly through two major sects, Tendai by Saichō and Shingon by Kūkai. Pure Land Buddhism (Jōdo-shū, Jōdo Shinshū) became greatly popular in the latter half of the 11th century. Feudal era Samurai warriors facing Mongols during the Mongol invasions of Japan; Suenaga, 1293 Japan’s feudal era was characterized by the emergence and dominance of a ruling class of warriors, the samurai. In 1185, following the defeat of the Taira clan in the Genpei War, sung in the epic Tale of Heike, samurai Minamoto no Yoritomo was appointed shōgun by Emperor Go-Toba, and Yoritomo established a base of power in Kamakura. After his death, the Hōjō clan came to power as regents for the shōguns. The Zen school of Buddhism was introduced from China in the Kamakura period (1185–1333) and became popular among the samurai class.[57] The Kamakura shogunate repelled Mongol invasions in 1274 and 1281, but was eventually overthrown by Emperor Go-Daigo. Emperor Go-Daigo was himself defeated by Ashikaga Takauji in 1336.#blockchain #cryptocurrency #bitcoin #ethereum #ICO #P2PS #P2PSF #startup http://bit.ly/2ELXcBZ
