Do you have any headcanons for Zajuverse Equaling Heaven? Mine is that he’s a gibbon favored by Heaven and sincerely given his title. Ancient Chinese upper class used to love gibbons and hate monkeys so it fits the angle.

Ohhh that is so cool! Heaven might have thought Xingzhe to be at least an interesting character to give him a title considering his attitude, but even Heaven needs a little bit of flavor. Probs thought him being a gibbon would mean he would be more behaved... of those poor souls.

I actually have a headcanon that Zaju Wukong could have been Six Eared Macaque. That is a little out there and I know it doesn't make sense but I think from both an author's point of view and an in-story point of view.

The author's point of view is that Xingzhe is all of the worsts traits Wukong could have had being a coward, weak, and a pervert in his previous interaction. Mostly this is demon monkeys having a bad reputation. And Wu Cheng'en's version of the Six-Eared Macaque, who is also supposed to represent Wukong's worst traits would pay homage to that reputation. Kinda getting mega in the writing when the “new” Sun Wukong takes Six Ears's place being both mischievous but competent and strong and being the main lead rather than the clown leading to that change in characterization.

The in-story point of view is that the Six Ears hears the future but he hears the Zaju future where he lives in Purple Cloud Cave and calls himself King of 100,000 Demons and just when he just waiting for King Li and Nezha to come to arrest him for kidnapping his wife Princess of Jinding Guo and gain his title as Great Sage Heaven Reaching. But it never happens. Because somewhere else they are busy fighting a BIGGER threat that is SUN WUKONG the new Great Sage EQUAL to Heaven. And his is pushed to the side, out of the narrative and out of the story from the start. In his mind, he knows he really SHOULD have been Sun Wukong and maybe he would have been if not for the Stone Monkey being born but he was pushed to the side when the Real Sun Wukong took the narrative changing when he heard in the future.

And how he is completely delusional that he is the Sun Wukong.

That might be a bit out there sure but I really love the idea of tying in the previous interactions in some way and always thought this could have been a neat homage.

Tying the most outlandish version of Sun Wukong being his legit “facing the worst parts of yourself” in the Wu Cheng’en version could not only comment on the previous interactions but also give the Six Ears a bit more justification that he REALLY thought he was meant to be the Sun Wukong, that he was supposed to gain the glory and go to Indian and was desperate to “make things right” even to a delusional state. He can hear approximately anything... but that doesn't mean everything.

Wukong is usually a self-centered person and he likes the admiration of everyone so he let some women look at him but Jiaozi was passing by and seeing her future husband with those women she thought the worst of him.

He had told her before that she should at least get to know him better before judging him, so that she would give him a chance but she ended up disappointed in him feeling this marriage was more forced than anything

I'm going to try to explain lore of this couple now, half a year has passed, and I haven't told you anything about them...

I'll try to tell you briefly. While traveling to the west, Wukong, his teacher, and his brothers visited the land of the golden caldron. There they learned that the golden caldron (the treasure of the emperor of this country) It was stolen. The emperor is in despair and does not accept anyone into his palace. Xuanzang is in despair, because if the emperor does not sign important documents, they will not be able to continue their journey. Wukong reassures the teacher that he will find the cauldron and take it back to the palace, to the emperor.

Night falls. Wukong smells a strange smell that is similar to the smell of devils. He searches for the source of the smell and finds two devils, one of them carrying a man. Wukong turns into a fly, sits on the head of one of the devils and eavesdrops on their conversation. As it turned out, they stole the caldron, and today they kidnapped the princess of this country.

Devils come to the cave. Wukong notices that there are more devils living here. They take the princess to a separate room in the cave. It's time for Wukong. He transforms into his real form and kills all the devils in the cave. After clearing the cave, he finds the caldron and then the princess. Their acquaintance was quite unusual, the princess, after she came to her senses, was afraid of Wukong, and he began to calm her down. The princess introduced herself as Guo Jinding.

Wukong reduces the caldron, puts it in his pants pocket, and carries the princess in his arms, she was weak and there was a bump on her forehead.

Wukong and Jinding return to the city. He returns the princess and the cauldron to the palace. The Emperor is glad that his caldron is back in the palace, and the Empress is glad that her eldest daughter is safe and sound.

So, the emperor thanked Wukong for returning the caldron and the princess, and Xuanzang thanked him for Wukong's deed. A feast is immediately arranged.

The Emperor doesn't want to let the guests go anywhere. He walks around the city with Xuanzang, as well as with his younger students. The Empress asked Wukong to keep an eye on Jinding while she took care of her youngest daughter. Wukong is not happy about this, they urgently need to leave the country and continue their journey.

Over time, Wukong and Jinding become friends, and then they develop a mutual liking for each other, but secretly.

Wukong comes to Jinding at night, in her room, with a bouquet of bindweeds. He tells her that today he, his teacher and his brothers will leave the country. Jinding cannot believe it, she asked him to stay, but he refused, because they have been staying in this country for 2 months. Wukong tells Jindin about his feelings, and Jindin reciprocates. Finally, he kisses her hand, promises that he will never forget her and they will meet again soon, and he leaves...

17 years have passed. The journey is over. Wukong became a Buddha, but he did not forget about Jinding and the first thing he did was fly to her on a cloud.

Jinding is already over 37 years old, wrinkles appear a little and she is about to stop believing that Wukong will ever appear again... And finally he appears in front of her. He jumps off his cloud, hugs Jindin, and for the first time they kiss on the lips.

They tell Jinding's father everything. He says that since everything has come to that, Jinding should leave her place as a princess. Jinding accepts this. She gives the tiara and the golden hairpin to her younger sister. The Emperor blesses Wukong and Jinding. The couple leaves the palace and soon they arrive at a mountain of flowers and fruits.

PHEW! I'd be surprised if anyone read this to the end. You can find out more about them in my fanfiction, but it's only available to friends, but maybe I'll publish it on AO3 someday.

I did not want him to kidnap her (as it is written in some sources), it is more pleasant for me to see the attitude from strangers to friends, from friends to lovers.

Iron Fan and Jinding are good friends.
