I acquired this copy of Jim Lehrer's satirical novel VIVA MAX from a bookstore in Dallas years ago because it had some old photos stuffed away in it. Turned out they were original photos taken during the filming of the 1969 film adaptation starring Peter Ustinov in San Antonio, Texas. Even further, the copy of the book had numerous autographs in it from director Jerry Paris, producer Mark Carliner and cast members Ustinov, Harry Morgan, Pamela Tiffin, Kenneth Mars, and Jack Wakefield. (Pictures and scans from personal collection)

Fly Me To The Moon (12): "Making History".
#onemannsmovies #filmreview of "Fly Me To The Moon". #FlyMeToThe Moon. Apollo-set rom-com with Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum that barely makes orbit. 3/5.
A One Mannâs Movies review of âFly Me To The Moonâ (2024). Apollo was an astonishing program. Given the clunky technology of the day, I still find it utterly awe-inspiring that NASA was able to get the Saturn V bucket of bolts into the air, let alone accomplish the astounding feat of landing two men, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, onto the moon. The Apollo 11 mission is the backdrop to thisâŚ

mega projecting rn, this is
PERCY JACKSON CHARACTERS AS SONGS FROM MY PLAYLIST
aka what I think they would do for karaoke, whatâs they like, and what song is them coded
PERCY
What heâd do karaoke to: Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin. Son of Poseidon thinks water songs are funny.
What song heâd like the most: either Angry Young Man or Allentown, both by Billy Joel. Hard hitting lyrics and instrumentals to match.
What song he has the vibes of: Kodachrome by Paul Simon. Silly, jaunty, but kind of soothing at the same time. Reminds you of your childhood, almost.
ANNABETH
What sheâd do karaoke to: Stand by Me by Ben E. King. Sheâs a romantic lady, what can I say? Sheâd totally be winking at Percy when she sings the chorus.
What song sheâd like the most: Arthurâs Theme (Best That You Can Do) by Christopher Cross. She has classical vibes and this is the closest thing to classical as I have on my playlist. Also, I feel like sheâd love jazz and this is jazz-adjacent.
What song she has the vibes of: Sheâs Always A Woman by Billy Joel. Sentimental, cool, but still oozing with emotion.
JASON
What heâd do karaoke to: Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. Boy puts on a performance.
What song heâd like the most: My Way by Frank Sinatra. He feels good about himself and all the stuff heâs been through while listening to it.
What song he has the vibes of: Out of Touch by Daryl Hall & John Oates. Edgy, cool, and a bop.
PIPER
What sheâd do karaoke to: Lovefool by The Cardigans. Daughter of Aphrodite thinks love songs are funny. Sheâs a really good singer though, so she can choose any song and still knock everybodyâs socks off.
What song sheâd like the most: Yesterday by the Beatles. I think sheâd like sad songs (not breakup songs, more like âwallowing in self pity, wondering what happened to usâ songs).
What song she has the vibes of: Thank You For the Music by ABBA. Self worth problems, putting all your value in one ability? Piper coded.
LEO
What heâd do karaoke to: Letâs Hear It for the Boy by Deniece Williams or Thank God Iâm A Country Boy by John Denver. The first because heâs some sort of LGBT+ and thinks itâs funny, the second because heâs Texan and thinks itâs funny. Also Fernando by ABBA.
What song heâd like the most: Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham! He identifies with it. Also he loves the dorky Just Dance for it.
What song he has the vibes of: Telephone Line by Electric Light Orchestra. Hopeless romantic vibes right there.
HAZEL
What sheâd do karaoke to: Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. Sheâd eat any jazz song up, really, but this oneâs got her name written all over it.
What song sheâd like the most: Bad, Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce. Itâs got that school house rock vibe that you know sheâd love. And also, bar fights! Yay!
What song she has the vibes of: Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae. Happy, sends a message, gives off sunny day and Hazel vibes.
FRANK
What heâd do karaoke to: Delilah by Tom Jones. Heâs belting this shit in the shower at 3 AM.
What song heâd like the most: Oh, What A Beautiful Morning by Gordon Macrae from the musical Oklahoma. Heâs embarrassed to admit it, but this boy loves old Rogerâs and Hammerstein musicals (The Music Man, Carousel, etc.) that go on for too long and have unnecessary songs. He thinks theyâre pretty.
What song he has the vibes of: Everybody Loves Somebody by Dean Martin. Gentle giant vibes.
NICO
What heâd do karaoke to: So Long, Mom (A Song for World War III) by Tom Lehrer. Heâs a sucker for old satirical songs and loves watching his friends react as he sings them.
What song heâd like the most: The Vatican Rag by Tom Lehrer. Again, because he likes satirical songs. He cried laughing the first time he heard it, having grown up in the Catholic Church (of Italy, no less).
What song he has the vibes of: Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas. Stark contrast from the earlier songs but itâs just⌠so Nico coded. The type of stuff you can head bang but also perform ballet to.
REYNA
What sheâd do karaoke to: We Didnât Start the Fire by Billy Joel. She memorized the whole thing and likes flexing on everybody else about it because they donât have the guts nor the dedication.
What song sheâd like the most: Fame by Irene Cara. She unwinds to this in her room after a long day. She also totally does embarrassing dances to it.
What song she has the vibes of: Leningrad by Billy Joel. A song about war, seemingly endless cycles of violence, but small victories and reconciliation.
#percy jackon and the olympians#heroes of olympus#WARNING: 80S MUSIC#LOTS OF IT BUT EVEN MORE 70S MUSIC#annabeth chase#percy jackson#leo valdez#jason grace#piper mclean#hazel levesque#frank zhang#nico di angelo#reyna avila ramirez arellano#sorry if you know none of these. this is just me projecting lol

Every single Brawl Stars character as songs
So, I was unhappy with my prior posts on this topic, both because of the song choices I made and because I didn't properly credit the musicians behind them. Ergo, I'm going to compile all of the brawlers into a single list below the cut, and then update and reblog this post each time a new brawler is released.

Apart from movies/series, what would you say is your favourite art medium? It could be digital, traditional, or a combination of these.
Well, I love a good book just as much as the next person with Harlan Ellison, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and Tolkien being some of my favorite authors. But I also have a very strong love for vinyl records and collect them.
I've got John Denver, Queen, ABBA, ELO, and some soundtracks like Guardians of the Galaxy and Minecraft, but the two displayed in this picture are my pride and joy. They're both from 1966 and are in incredible condition, even playing better than the ones I bought online (these two are from a thrift store). Not to mention that these two artists mean a lot to me: Tom Lehrer is one of my favorite comedic songwriters and Jim Nabors is not only a gay icon to me but was also born close to where I'm from. I've got some new vintage records I've got to pick up from my grandparents house as well, stuff like Hank Williams and Buck Owens as well as a non-vintage Credence Clearwater Revival.
And of course, I'd never forgive myself if I didn't mention my love for Appalachian folk art. Dollywood is a well-loved vacation destination for my family, and although I love the rides and the cinnamon bread (that shit is like CRACK I swear to god it's so good), one of my favorite things about that place is the Craftsman's Valley. They let you see things like glassblowing, woodcarving, and ironworks among other things, but where there's pottery now they used to have a wagon station that used to be my grandfather's favorite since he breaks horses and drives wagons. Here's some pictures of what it used to look like:
Unfortunately I'm too young to remember that specific station, but I've spent hours watching the glassblowing and ironworks. It's genuinely mesmerizing and helps me feel a lot closer to my culture and have a newfound appreciation for it every time I see it.
#thanks for the ask and further indulging my mindless rants!#this was a bit longer than I expected it to be but when it comes to stuff I'm passionate about like records and my culture I can't help it#I love Appalachian folk art so much#I could talk about that and just my culture in general for ages since I've finally grown comfortable with expressing my heritage#more than anything I wish I could remember the wagon station#but I'm still very happy with the other memories I have of that place#asks#answered asks
