My demo piece at 集集火車站 this afternoon... Had a lot of fun even though the heat was brutal. I shared the sketch construction process (composition, perspective, DoF, etc.) and creating depth and interest with watercolor (various tricks and techniques). Those who watched asked very good questions (what an eager and spirited bunch of participants)... hope the session was helpful to them. ✌🏼🤙🏼 It was a tiring afternoon, but energy-giving at the same time. #demo #sketcher #urbansketching #urbansketchers #usksg #usk #taiwan #nanto #jijitrainstation #集集火車站 #sketchtournantou2019 #artistsoninstagram #artist #drawing (at Jiji Station) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2PD_ujHsOF/?igshid=1pcgfaqli48v

Journey across Sun Moon Lake
Continuing our journey from Cingjing Farm (清境农场), the day’s route will take us through:
Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) ->  Checheng (車城) -> Jiji Train Station (集集車站) -> Sanyi (三義)
With a strategic view of Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) from the rooftop of Sun Moon Lake Teacher’s Hostel (日月潭教師會館), I woke up early to catch the beautiful sunrise.

After a quick and delicious breakfast, it was off to the famous Dragon Phoenix Temple (龍鳳宮月老廟) to pray for a good match from “Yue Lao” (月老).

Soon, it was time for our 9:30am ferry ride across Sun Moon Lake (日月潭), so we quickly made our way to the ferry terminal.

One of the most famous items in Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) are the tea leave eggs (阿嬷茶葉蛋) available from this store. The eggs were delicious and it was well worth the ferry ride to reach this store.

As noon approaches, we returned back to shore and took a bus to Checheng (車城) to catch a train to Jiji Train Station (集集車站). Numerous train tracks were built in Checheng (車城) to facilitate the construction of a nearby power station. During its heyday, it held the title of “Little Taipei” with thousands working and living here. However, once the power station was completed, the area was abandoned before it was revitalized by the logging and tourism industry.

Before exploring Checheng (車城), we had to try the famous railway bento which comprised of rice served with a stewed egg, broccoli, black fungus, and a choice of pork chop or chicken drum stick.

Since it was still a couple of hours before the train ride to Jiji Train Station (集集車站), I just took a leisurely stroll around the town to discover its history and its beautiful scenery.

2:30pm came along and we boarded the train for a 15 minute train ride to reach Jiji Train Station (集集車站).

After a quick pitstop at Jiji Train Station (集集車站), it was time to resume our bus ride to Sanyi (三義) which is famous for producing beautiful wooden carvings and statues.

A quick dinner at a local restaurant and it was a long bus ride back to home sweet home at New Taipei City ( 新北市).
It was a fun two day road trip and I would highly recommend the route to everyone!
As a quick recap, here’s the route that we took for our adventure:
Cingjing Farm (清境农场) ->  Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) ->  Checheng (車城) -> Jiji Train Station (集集車站) ->  Sanyi (三義)
