JIGSAW (2017)
Tumblr media
One of the most satisfying of the SAW movies. Cruel, ironic, puzzling, and intricate. I was concerned going in that this would be the beating of a dead horse but it was instead a song of triumph for the series. Heart Pounding, intoxicating, and sexy, this film is a worthy addition to an amazing series. The games and deaths felt deserved and purposeful but also fair and satisfying.
⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Tumblr media
Jigsaw is back with five unsuspecting villains who need to work their way to confessing their crimes. Starting with chains leading them to saws, the first victim was unconscious and missed the rules thus "disqualifying" him. The rag tag team of misfits (brought together more by chance than common theme) meet a purse snatcher who is presented with an obvious solution to her poison problem but instead tries to leave the group hanging (ha). Acid in the blood frees the gang up but leaves them with three.
Tumblr media
An attempt to leave through a "no exit" door costs one hapless male his leg as he must choose not to let the other two people left drown in grain. The nephew killing conman is sent into a blender of sorts which leaves us with a daring duo who come face to face with John himself. The gun fires backwards, taking out our child killer while the drunken male is left for dead. Flash forward to the future where Logan, our doting protege of Jigsaw is getting jiggy with Halloran, the man who let criminals roam free, like the one that killed Logan’s wife. A stunning twist with a fake death reminiscent of the first film, what an amazing ode. "I speak for the dead."

JIGSAW REWATCH
I knew this movie had a version of grain suffocation in it but it made more sense to me because they were being buried in grains, I didn’t know until A QUIET PLACE that you can sink in from the top which is somehow more terrifying and stressful. And, I love that Logan stood up for Eleanor, but he totally almost got her shot by Halloran and that was also stressful.
Tumblr media
This movie did a really fun version of the whole time jump thing without making a big show about it like in SAW II. It was very clever to have this be one of (if not the first) Jigsaw trap and yet also still be the 8th movie in line. Bringing back Tobin Bell as Jigsaw, not so much as flashbacks, but presently because we didn’t know how long ago the game was being played and the cult of Jigsaw was making it seem like John Kramer was still alive out there. Really a fun film that I am still impressed with. Wish it had a few more familiar faces but we got a bit spoiled by that from SAW 3D.

for the bitches (affectionate) who wanna put leon in a saw trap
-> john kramer is unfair as fuck and tries to convince himself he is doing good. whoever in-universe is tormenting leon, that should be considered
-> leon himself is a slave to the government right? it's not like he could easily go rogue and free himself. that's the theme. "breaking your chains" kinda shit. definitely acab/anti-capitalist/imperialist themes to interject here lol. but maybe the idea is to convince him to go rogue... or join whomever the baddie(s) are.
-> detective rigg was put in a trap because he was too focused on saving people. and i guess his tendency to breach doors w/o it being cleared. we know leon is willing to risk his life at a moment's notice to save someone, so that's definitely an idea lol. gets seriously injured trying to help someone... recovers... relives the horrors and is punished for it.
-> and to that point, leon's so willing to sacrifice himself. again, kramer is not fair and doesn't hold to his philosophy. he kills innocents all the time. you can absolutely include someone totally innocent in leon's trap.
use poetry to be cruel, is what i'm getting at. predict human behavior. or something. go with the intended philosophy and make them bitches hypocrites lol
currently brewing up an idea with a HEAVILY misguided group who convince themselves they're "the good guys" and absolutely do 0 good things. (like john going after corruption and greed) -> leads to "testing" leon to see if he's good enough for their cause. or, trying to convince him to join them with brutality. or even, they refuse to take a "no" from him and keep on with it.

Okay so I know “The Jigsaw War” doesn’t actually take place during season 6B but IMAGINE IF IT DID it’s actually the perfect story hello
Rambling & spoilers below the cut
1. The Set Up
As a companion chronicles story, this is obviously very Jamie centric. The opening reminded me a lot of “death of the Daleks” where Jamie is being interrogated, alone, by a newcomer who presumed he knows everything about - that he’s an accomplice to - the Doctor. In both of these scenarios the Doctor represented the threat to these strangers, and Jamie the key to defeating that. Which is already very much Jamie being a tool for manipulating the Doctor, as emphasized at the end of “world game” where the doctor agreed to carry on working for the CIA if he was allowed Jamie’s company.
2. Jamie Working
The main plot of Jamie having to work things out on his own, for his own freedom and for the Doctor, feels a lot like it could be a trend in the CIA throwing him in the deep end with 2. It shows how independent and adaptive he’s grown since he started traveling with the Doctor, how he has picked up bit of his personality. This is also mentioned later when Jamie is thought to have (in the future) attacked Moran and the Doctor insists that this is out of character for him because of who Jamie is and how he has changed.
The fact that the tasks Jamie has to fulfill/perform are time- & puzzle-based obviously adds to this, since he is jumping through time with disjointed memories and understanding. The Doctor is also for the most part off screen (?) because he is working on another aspect of the “threat” while Jamie is put to the test. So !! Hm !!
3. Jamie’s Faith
Jamie’s faith in the Doctor is of course put to the test but he still believes in him despite the risks. Obviously a big part of the recovery aspect of season 6B is jamie learning who the doctor is again and why he trusts him so much. In this audio he also risks many lives by putting this absolute faith in the Doctor. Also, because it’s told from Jamie’s perspective, and because that’s just how the plot is moving, the whole story hinges on the Doctor’s judgment: who needs his help, who is the threat, and his understanding of humans to a core—something the Time Lords despise but still very clearly need—through Jamie.
Another major part of the dialogue is the Doctor speaking through Jamie’s body because the “emotional connection” is “strong enough” where it would otherwise not have worked. So….I’ll leave that there. (Edit: I’m linking this to the touch telepathy bs now)
4. CIA interventions & measures
His interrogators ask who the doctor is working for, automatically assuming that he is an agent. The conversation goes like:
Which of course is a very obvious nod to when the Doctor will eventually take orders - unless he is already taking them. The only disagreeing thing in the audio is that a) the tardis crash landed as per usual on the Unheld system and b) Zoe is allegedly traveling with them. However the “accidental” landing on the Unheld could very easily be another lie. And if this were to take place around helicon prime etc Jamie wouldn’t actually remember Zoe (btw I have not yet listened to beyond war games/James Robert mccrimmon so I might edit this later). But that the main idea is stitched events and memories being experience out of chronology….etc. Also Zoe doesn’t actually make an appearance in the audio - the Doctor mentions her helping him while he’s in Jamie’s mind, but because Jamie can hear him it’s very possible that could have been for his sake alone.
Anyway there’s my. False hope. (I originally started this because I was struggling where to order the jigsaw war on my spreadsheet. I did end up opting for this:
Tumblr media
Simply because the s6b thing is more of a guess and I want this to be only slightly more accurate than that. What was stopping me from putting anything between twg/space pirates was that Jamie is wearing the same exact shirt so it seemed like they would connect but the idea of him going continuously into the final serial felt wrong so I just changed it now)
Okay thanks for reading!

SAW VI (2009)
Tumblr media
SAW VI is the office edition (and no I do not mean The Office), this film takes nearly all of its victims from the same office building (and they are all in their little business suits and such). The theme is very cohesive but overall the movie is weak, especially when compared to the films that came before it. It still ties in the SAW storyline in a nice way but isn’t nearly as fun or exciting as the other installments.
⭐⭐⭐
Tumblr media
The office in question is a health insurance office that is very cut throat in their policies (what insurance company these days isn’t?). Their dogged refusal to insure the seriously ill cost many their lives which is why they are all chosen for this movie's game. Hoffman and Jill Tuck are the Jigsaw stand-ins for this movie and they are using instructions from a box that John Kramer left Jill in SAW V. This is supposedly John’s final game, his last will and testament. The game begins with the head of the office in chains and what appears to be his family (mother and son) in a cage somewhere far away (there is also a reporter opposite them).
Tumblr media
The Boss's first challenge is just to hold his own against a smoker, no problem there, but then he is presented with choosing between a healthy young man or an older woman. This is normally an easy choice for him considering the older woman is statistically more likely to die sooner but when faced with actually picking who lives and who dies he chooses the woman to live because she has a family who would miss her. This is just about the only redeeming thing he does. Next he attempts to lead a coworker through a steam maze but it ends in a fight and she dies (this is lucky for the main dude though because the key to her vest was inside of him, yikes).
Tumblr media
Next he finds his nasty workers (the ones who find all the sick people to kick out) strapped to a playground's merry-go-round only it has a shotgun pointed at it. He can pick two people to save and the rest get shot point blank. This was a rough scene especially for our last victim who demanded the boss look him in the eyes when he was being murdered. That was the second decent thing that man did.
Tumblr media
While the game is afoot, Hoffman is discovered but only by three cops and he disposes of them quickly and easily. He has to leave and miss part of the game though and during that time Jill comes in and does some sneaky business, like dropping the note off that Hoffman left for Amanda way back in SAW III that linked her to when John and Jill lost their baby. Turns out it was really Hoffman that made Amanda shoot the doc which triggered her getting shot and her failing her test (and losing her life).
Tumblr media
Finally the game is over, (right?) the boss man gets to the “family” room and runs towards… the reporter? Turns out the reporter is his sister, the mother and son are a family he fucked over by not insuring the father so the dad died. And guess who gets to decide Mr. Boss Man's fate? The Mother won’t flip the kill switch but that child had hate in his heart and no dad there to quell it so he killed that man dead. And last but certainly not least, our own Hoffman was made to wear a bear trap headpiece from like from SAW (original) as his test. He barely passed.
