The 11 Beliefs You Should Know about Jehovah's Witnesses When They Knock at the Door
The divine name. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that God’s one true name—the name by which he must be identified—is Jehovah.
Biblically, however, God is identified by many names, including:
God (Hb. ‘elohim; Gen. 1:1), God Almighty (Hb. ‘El Shadday; Gen. 17:1), Lord (Hb. ‘Adonay; Ps. 8:1), and Lord of hosts (Hb. yhwh tseba’ot; 1 Sam. 1:3). In NT times, Jesus referred to God as “Father” (Gk. Patēr; Matt. 6:9), as did the apostles (1 Cor. 1:3).
The Trinity. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the Trinity is unbiblical because the word is not in the Bible and because the Bible emphasizes that there is one God.
Biblically, while it is true that there is only one God (Isa. 44:6; 45:18; 46:9; John 5:44; 1 Cor. 8:4; James 2:19), it is also true that three persons are called God in Scripture:
the Father (1 Pet. 1:2), Jesus (John 20:28; Heb. 1:8), and the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:3-4). Each of these three possesses the attributes of deity—including
omnipresence (Ps. 139:7; Jer. 23:23-24; Matt. 28:20), omniscience (Ps. 147:5; John 16:30; 1 Cor. 2:10-11), omnipotence (Jer. 32:17; John 2:1-11; Rom. 15:19), and eternality (Ps. 90:2; Heb. 9:14; Rev. 22:13). Still further, each of the three is involved in doing the works of deity—such as creating the universe:
the Father (Gen. 1:1; Ps. 102:25), the Son (John 1:3; Col. 1:16; Heb. 1:2), and the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:2; Job 33:4; Ps. 104:30). The Bible indicates that there is three-in-oneness in the godhead (Matt. 28:19; cf. 2 Cor. 13:14).
Thus doctrinal support for the Trinity is compellingly strong.
Jesus Christ. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus was created by Jehovah as the archangel Michael before the physical world existed, and is a lesser, though mighty, god.
Biblically, however, Jesus is eternally God (John 1:1; 8:58; cf. Ex. 3:14) and has the exact same divine nature as the Father (John 5:18; 10:30; Heb. 1:3).
Indeed, a comparison of the OT and NT equates Jesus with Jehovah (compare Isa. 43:11 with Titus 2:13; Isa. 44:24 with Col. 1:16; Isa. 6:1-5 with John 12:41).
Jesus himself created the angels (Col. 1:16; cf. John 1:3; Heb. 1:2, 10) and is worshiped by them (Heb. 1:6).
The incarnation. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that when Jesus was born on earth, he was a mere human and not God in human flesh.
This violates the biblical teaching that in the incarnate Jesus, “the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily” (Col. 2:9; cf. Phil. 2:6-7).
The word for “fullness” (Gk. plērōma) carries the idea of the sum total. “Deity” (Gk. theotēs) refers to the nature, being, and attributes of God.
Therefore, the incarnate Jesus was the sum total of the nature, being, and attributes of God in bodily form.
Indeed, Jesus was Immanuel, or “God with us” (Matt. 1:23; cf. Isa. 7:14; John 1:1, 14, 18; 10:30; 14:9-10).
Resurrection. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Jesus was resurrected spiritually from the dead, but not physically.
Biblically, however, the resurrected Jesus asserted that he was not merely a spirit but had a flesh-and-bone body (Luke 24:39; cf. John 2:19-21).
He ate food on several occasions, thereby proving that he had a genuine physical body after the resurrection (Luke 24:30, 42-43; John 21:12-13).
This was confirmed by his followers who physically touched him (Matt. 28:9; John 20:17).
The second coming. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the second coming was an invisible, spiritual event that occurred in the year 1914.
Biblically, however, the yet-future second coming will be physical, visible (Acts 1:9-11; cf. Titus 2:13), and will be accompanied by visible cosmic disturbances (Matt. 24:29-30). Every eye will see him (Rev. 1:7).
The Holy Spirit. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that the Holy Spirit is an impersonal force of God and not a distinct person.
Biblically, however, the Holy Spirit has the three primary attributes of personality:
a mind (Rom. 8:27), emotions (Eph. 4:30), and will (1 Cor. 12:11). Moreover, personal pronouns are used of him (Acts 13:2). Also, he does things that only a person can do, including:
teaching (John 14:26), testifying (John 15:26), commissioning (Acts 13:4), issuing commands (Acts 8:29), and interceding (Rom. 8:26). The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity (Matt. 28:19).
Salvation. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that salvation requires faith in Christ, association with God’s organization (i.e., their religion), and obedience to its rules.
Biblically, however, viewing obedience to rules as a requirement for salvation nullifies the gospel (Gal. 2:16-21; Col. 2:20-23). Salvation is based wholly on God’s unmerited favor (grace), not on the believer’s performance.
Good works are the fruit or result, not the basis, of salvation (Eph. 2:8-10; Titus 3:4-8).
Two redeemed peoples. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe there are two peoples of God: (1) the Anointed Class (144,000) will live in heaven and rule with Christ; and (2) the “other sheep” (all other believers) will live forever on a paradise earth.
Biblically, however, a heavenly destiny awaits all who believe in Christ (John 14:1-3; 17:24; 2 Cor. 5:1; Phil. 3:20; Col. 1:5; 1 Thess. 4:17; Heb. 3:1), and these same people will also dwell on the new earth (2 Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:1-4).
No immaterial soul. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe that humans have an immaterial nature. The “soul” is simply the life-force within a person. At death, that life-force leaves the body.
Biblically, however, the word “soul” is multifaceted. One key meaning of the term is man’s immaterial self that consciously survives death (Gen. 35:18; Rev. 6:9-10). Unbelievers are in conscious woe (Matt. 13:42; 25:41, 46; Luke 16:22-24; Rev. 14:11) while believers are in conscious bliss in heaven (1 Cor. 2:9; 2 Cor. 5:6-8; Phil. 1:21-23; Rev. 7:17; 21:4).
Hell. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe hell is not a place of eternal suffering but is rather the common grave of humankind. The wicked are annihilated—snuffed out of conscious existence forever.
Biblically, however, hell is a real place of conscious, eternal suffering (Matt. 5:22; 25:41, 46; Jude 7; Rev. 14:11; 20:10, 14).

Matthew 1:18-25 (NLT). “This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus.”
“Support Others” Advent Devotional 18th December - By Words of Hope:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us).” (Matt 1:23)
“The giant sequoia tree is one of the largest tree species in the world, often reaching almost 300 feet tall. However, their roots run very shallow. Sequoias grow in groves, and their roots intertwine, so when strong winds blow, the trees hold each other up. It’s a beautiful picture of mutual support. They can grow that tall because they support each other.
Mary was called by God to do something incredible, but so was Joseph, who was called to support and protect her. They probably felt isolated, yet they weren’t alone. An angel, a cousin, shepherds, wise men. And of course, more than anyone else, God was with them. “‘They shall call his name Immanuel’ (which means God with us)” (v. 23). When we choose to follow God’s call, we aren’t alone either. One of the treasures of the Christian life is what the New Testament calls koinōnia, which means “fellowship, communion, participation.” I know a lovely older woman who, every week, studies the “Prayer Concerns” page of the Sunday worship bulletin and makes a plan to personally support every person named—a card or a note, a phone call, a visit. She even delivers fresh-baked bread. What a transforming effect this simple ministry has had on the congregation! What could you do to support someone today?

God in Human Flesh!
[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God.
COLOSSIANS 1:15
The Incarnation—God’s taking upon Himself our humanity and becoming a man—is an amazing truth—and one that gives us a solid foundation for our faith.
Both Jesus and the very first Christians clearly asserted that He was fully divine, and over the centuries this truth has remained central to the Christian faith. Long before Jesus’ miraculous birth, the Old Testament foretold that God would enter this world in human form: “‘The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’— which means, ‘God with us’” (Matt. 1:23). When confronted by those who questioned His divinity, Jesus responded, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). The consistent witness of the apostles was that “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:3). When Thomas—unconvinced at first that Jesus had been raised from the dead—met the risen Savior, he immediately exclaimed, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28).
Spend a few minutes marveling over this wondrous truth—and thank God for demonstrating His great love for us by taking upon Himself our human flesh.☕️B GRAHAM

A Sabbath Verse (Isa 7:14)
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: behold, a {the} virgin {maiden} shall conceive, and bear {is with child, and beareth} a son, and shall call his name Immanuel {i.e. "God is with us"}. (Isa 7:14 ASV)
While our weekly verses are randomly generated, this passage couldn't have appeared at a more appropriate time of the year. Soon after his ministry ended, Jesus's followers began looking to the Old Covenant to prefigure (and explain) his singular role in history. And Isa 7:14 was among those verses that took center stage, if only because it seemed to encapsulate the narrative of the Virgin Birth so well. We now know that Isaiah's words were recorded hundreds of years before Jesus (and relate to a wholly separate context), but to this day, they're used to confirm that the Old Covenant predicted the Incarnation of the Son — see Matt 1:21-23 for an expression of this belief among one of the first communities to develop a post-Crucifixion Messiah tradition.

At the beginning of the book of Matthew, Jesus is given the name "Immanuel", meaning "GOD WITH US" (Matt 1:23). At the end of the book, Jesus sends his followers into the world with the promise that "SURELY I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS" (Matt 28:20).
- reminding you that from the beginning up to the end, God is with you!
- This is all the KILIG I need right now.

J.L. Class of 2024
Read over Psalm 139, specifically verses 7-10. Isaiah 7:14 points to Matt. 1:23 God is Immanuel or “God with us”. Exodus 33:14 shows that God reminds Moses that his Presence with be with him wherever he goes.
These are just a few examples of what I believe describe God’s presence. He sent Jesus, to die on the cross on our behalf, and, if we repent, acknowledging the brokenness inside ourselves, we can be made new in him because of his forgiveness. We see and begin to understand his sacrificial love, and how his grace is a gift we can not repay. This is what makes God’s love, forgiveness, and character all the more sweet! (Essentially the message of the gospel.) God’s spirit resides inside each and every one of us, but I believe that we don’t become aware of his presence until we accept Christ as our Savior. Luke 11:13 describes the Holy Spirit as something we can obtain more of if we just ask. And the same thing goes for God’s presence. When we worship, pray, or read the Bible, God’s presence can meet us there. I think it’s a matter of whether the heart is willing and open to God’s spirit.
Look to John 14:15-17, where Jesus promises the Holy Spirit. (This, of course, is in the point of view of believers.) As a Christian myself, I genuinely know that his Spirit guides us in our walk of faith. Even something as subtle as that feeling of right or wrong when you cheat on an exam, these thoughts could be God’s Spirit talking to your conscience. This, however, brings me to a very important distinction, that the Holy Spirit differs from your own consciousness. Overall God’s presence is (in light of Christianity) readily available if we ask for it. (If we accept Jesus as our savior and know he is the one true God), always around or near us even when we’re not aware of it, gives us true peace, hope, and encouragement

Eve of nativity
Nun Martyr Eugenia and her Companions
The Holy Martyr Eugenia, was a Roman by birth. She lived at Alexandria, where her father Philip was sent by the emperor Commodus (180-192) to be Prefect of Egypt. Eugenia received a fine upbringing and was noted for her beauty and good disposition. Many illustrious youths sought her hand, but she did not wish to marry anyone, for she was determined to preserve her virginity.
Providentially, she became acquainted with the Epistles of the Apostle Paul. She yearned with all her soul to become a Christian, but kept this a secret from her parents. At that time, Christians were banished from Alexandria by the command of the emperor. Wishing to learn more about Christian teachings, she asked permission to visit one of the family estates outside the city, supposedly to enjoy the countryside. She left in the company of her two servants Protus and Hyacinthus, dressed in men’s clothes. She and her companions were baptized at a certain monastery by Bishop Elias (July 14), who learned about her in a vision. He blessed her to pursue asceticism at the monastery disguised as the monk Eugene...continues
Heb 11: 9-10, 17-23,32-40
9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,”[d]19 concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.
22 By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.
The Faith of Moses
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.
32 And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: 33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again.
Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. 36 Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted,[f] were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— 38 of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
39 And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, 40 God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.
Matt 1:1-25
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
2 Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. 3 Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. 4 Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. 5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, 6 and Jesse begot David the king.
David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife[a] of Uriah. 7 Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa.[b] 8 Asa begot Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah. 9 Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah. 10 Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot Amon,[c] and Amon begot Josiah. 11 Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.
12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel. 13 Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. 14 Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud. 15 Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob. 16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon arefourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.
Christ Born of Mary
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son.[d] And he called His name Jesus.

Blog N0 81A Emmanuel
BLOG NO 81A 22nd December 2019 EMMANUEL
As we come up to Christmas I keep hearing the beautiful Hebrew word Immanuel. More frequently it is spelled Emmanuel which was the original Latin translation. But no matter the spelling, the word translates ‘God with us’. As I said last week, Christmas is all about Jesusl and the beautiful part of it is that although Jesus died on the cross at just the young age of 33, He rose again from the dead and then sent His Holy Spirit to live in us so when we sing or say Emmanuel it’s reminding us that God is with us all the time. He never leaves us or forsakes us once we have accepted Jesus into our lives. Wow.! Jesus was to be called Emmanuel as predicted by the prophet Isaiah in 7 v 14 and repeated in Matthew’s gospel ‘Look the virgin will conceive a child, she will give birth to a son and He will be called Emmanuel’ Matt 1 v 23. Perhaps the prophet Isaiah never understood how far-reaching the meaning of Emmanual would be.!
This morning we sang the beautiful Christmas Hallelujah and when I read all the lyrics of this great song it really tells the whole story, so instead of just writing as usual I want to share these words with you. It tells the Christmas story far better than I could.
I've heard about this baby boy Who's come to earth to bring us joy And I just want to sing this song to you It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift With every breath I'm singing Hallelujah Hallelujah A couple came to Bethlehem Expecting child, they searched the inn To find a place for You were coming soon There was no room for them to stay So in a manger filled with hay God's only Son was born, oh Hallelujah Hallelujah The shepherds left their flocks by night To see this baby wrapped in light A host of angels led them all to You It was just as the angels said You'll find Him in a manger bed Immanuel and Savior, Hallelujah Hallelujah I know You came to rescue me This baby boy would grow to be A man and one day die for me and you My sins would drive the nails in You That rugged cross was my cross, too Still every breath You drew was Hallelujah Halleluja
As you celebrate on Christmas Day remember that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus., Emmanuel – God with us and I pray that your day will be filled with the Blessing of God and that you will enjoy a happy, loving, joyful Christmas. See you in the New Year.

The Infant With Infinite Names (Isaiah 9:6b)
“And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
There is no shortage to the number of names given to the one whom the angels told Joseph in Matthew 1:23 would be called “Immanuel (which means God with us).”
Although Jesus and Immanuel are the primary designations, there are a myriad of other titles Scripture gives Jesus.
The Almighty (Rev 1:8), The Alpha and Omega (Rev 22:13), The Advocate (1 Jn 2:1), The Author and Perfector of our faith (Heb 12:2), The Bread of Life (Jn 6:35), The Beloved Son (Matt 3:17), The Bridegroom (Matt 9:15), The Chief Cornerstone (Ps 118:22), The Faithful and True One (Rev 19:11), The Good Shepherd (Jn 10:11), The Great High Priest (Heb 4:14), The Head of the Church (Eph 1:22), The Holy Servant (Acts 4:29-30), The I Am (Jn 8:58), The Judge (Acts 10:42), The King of Kings (Rev 17:14), The Lamb of God (Jn 1:29), The Light of the World (Jn 8:12), The Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Rev 5:5), The Lord of Lords (I Tim 6:15), The Mediator (1 Tim 2:5), The Messiah (Jn 1:41), The Mighty One (Is 60:16), The Hope (1 Tim 1:1), The Peace (Eph 2:14), The Prophet (Mk 6:4), The Redeemer (Job 19:25), The Rock (1 Co 10:4), The Savior (Lk 2:11), The Son of Man (Lk 19:10), The Son of the Most High (Lk 1:32), The Supreme Creator (1 Cor 1:16-17), The Resurrection and the Life (Jn 11:25), The Door (Jn 10:9), The Way (Jn 14:6), The Truth (Jn 14:6), The Life (Jn 14:6), The Word (Jn 1:1), The True Vine (Jn 15:1), The Victorious One (Rev 3:21), and The King of Kings (Rev 17:14).
This exhaustive list gives us an idea of how the infinite one has a seemingly infinite number of names.
What makes the infinite names of Jesus so beautiful is his infinite amount of character.
Isaiah is no stranger to this idea with his very name being a fulfillment of it: The name “Isaiah” is the shortened Hebrew rendering of Jesus (The Lord saves).
He is the first to introduce us to Immanuel, God with us (Is 7:14).
And what makes this prophetic moment about the coming Messiah astounding is that Isaiah goes into great depth about the implications, just by simply giving a list of Jesus’ additional names!
“Name”: shem (name, reputation, fame, glory). “Called”: qara (to call, but also to proclaim).
These names are not simply names; Isaiah is attempting to proclaim the glory of this one called Immanuel.
1. Wonderful: pele (wonder or marvel; but also so extraordinary that it is hard to understand).
God performs “signs and wonders” for his people all throughout the Old Testament (Ex 7:3; Deut 6:22; Deut 26:8; Neh 9:10; Ps 135:9; Jer 32:20; Dan 4:2, 6:27).
In the New Testament, throughout Jesus’ ministry, these signs and wonders come into view again.
Jesus brings attention to their potency in John 4:48: “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”
The signs and wonders were always a catalyst to lead people to the one who was and is full of wonder.
2. Counselor: ya’ats (to give counsel; to advise, to purpose, to plan, to conspire).
Not only does Jesus provide the best advice and best plans for us (Ps 33:11), but he IS the master plan (Eph 1:9-10).
Jesus’ words aren’t just the advice we need, they contain the power by which we and the world are transformed.
3. Mighty God: El Gibbowr (mighty, strong, brave).
What marks mankind? Fear and insecurity.
What marks Jesus? Might. Courage. Strength.
The Bible commands God’s people to “Fear not!” but it is always followed by a condition. God’s people don’t have to fear because God is with them. And it is Jesus who is called the fearless one.
4. Everlasting Father: ‘ad’ab (of continuous existence; perpetuity).
Isaiah calls Jesus a Son and a Father in the same sentence.
Is he both Son and the Father at the same time? Or, is Isaiah linking the Son and the Father so closely so as to reinforce the fact that this Son, this child, this infant is HIMSELF GOD?
5. Prince of Peace: Sar Shalowm (peace, welfare, soundness, safety, tranquility).
When the angels sang his birth in Luke 2:14 they exclaimed “Glory to God in the highest and peace among those with whom he is pleased.”
And with whom is he pleased? Those whom he has saved through faith (1 Co 1:21).
What does this mean? If he is pleased with us then we have peace (and peace here and now)
How? Because the infinite became infant. His name doesn’t just mean salvation. His name means that we can have peace, strength and purpose now and forevermore!

IF ANYONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT JESUS IS NOT GOD To this day, people are debating who Jesus is. The scriptures are clear: Jesus was the embodiment of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was the image of the invisible God. Jesus is the one true God. However, many people deny this truth. Some say He was a myth, others say He was just one of many prophets. Some acknowledge Him as the Son of God, but consider Him only a man. Some (who realize He possesses Deity) have labeled Him, “God the Son,” and He is considered by them to be a distinct and separate person from God. Others believe He was Michael the archangel. They also refer to Jesus as a “mighty god,” but not the ALMIGHTY God. Others teach that He is an “elder brother,” Some go as far as to acknowledge Jesus to be the promised Messiah, but refuse to acknowledge His supreme Deity. I believe and contend that He was God manifest in the flesh. The following are just a few objections that I have received, and some short answers.
OBJECTION # 1: A man cannot become a god, so how and when did Jesus become God?
Answer: This is true, but God can become a man. Jesus didn’t “become” God; God (The Father) became Jesus. (John 1: 1, 10, 14; 1 Timothy 3: 16)
OBJECTION # 2: Numbers 23: 19 says that “God is not a man that he could lie…”
So there you have it: Jesus could not have been God, since he was a man.
ANSWER: It is true that God is not a man: God is a Spirit (John 4: 24), but that Spirit manifested Himself in flesh. Jesus was the manifestation, or the personification, of the invisible Spirit of God. (1 Tim. 3: 16; Col. 1: 15) This is why He was called Immanuel, which being interpreted was “God with us”. (Matt 1: 23)
OBJECTION # 3: 1 Timothy 2: 5 calls Jesus a man – merely a “mediator” between God and men.
ANSWER: This falls right in line with Monotheism – the belief in One God. There is ONE GOD, Period. Not two or three equal “persons”, not “God the Son” nor “God the Holy Spirit”. Just plain and simply One God and one mediator between God and men. The “man” Christ Jesus was the human body that was given as a ransom for our sins. The “man” Christ Jesus was unlike any other man born on the face of the earth: He had no biological father. His Father literally was the Holy Spirit of God. (Luke 1: 35) That is why this “man” could silence the winds with His voice, heal the sick with His command, and open blind eyes with His touch. He was no ordinary man. He was God in human flesh.
OBJECTION # 4: The bible says there is one God, and one Lord. This separates God from Jesus.
ANSWER: Again, this is still perfectly in line with Oneness teaching. Since “Hear O Isreal, The LORD our God is one LORD” (Deut: 6: 4), and Jesus is given the title of “Lord Jesus Christ” (Luke 2: 11; Acts 9: 5; Acts 2: 36) in the New Testament, then this is further proof that Jesus is the personification of the One God of the bible. “God” and “Lord” are not indicative of separate persons, but synonymous of the same:
John 20: 28 --"Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
OBJECTION # 5: God cannot die: yet Jesus died. So Jesus cannot be God.
ANSWER: You are correct in that God never died, for God is a Spirit. (John 4: 24) The fleshly body of Jesus (the Son) is what died on the cross. Yet the bible still called the blood that was shed “God’s own blood”. (Acts 20: 28) and furthermore tells us that God laid down His life for us. (1 John 3: 16) How could this be, unless God was manifest in the flesh? (1 Tim. 3: 16)
OBJECTION # 6: Jesus claimed that God was His father. This makes him the Son and nothing else.
ANSWER: You do not understand what that proclamation meant to the Jewish nation: John 5: 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. (See also Philippians 2: 5 – 8)
OBJECTION # 7: Jesus never came out and proclaimed, “I am God”, or “I am God manifest in flesh”.
ANSWER: He actually did say it - for those who have ears to hear. I offer 7 examples:
Example # 1:
John 14: 7 – 11 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? HE THAT HATH SEEN ME HATH SEEN THE FATHER; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
This sums up what we have been saying all along: The Father (Spirit) was manifest in the flesh (Son), therefore the only way to “see” the Father was to behold the Son. The Spirit dwelled in the body; the Father dwelt in the Son. God was in Christ: His purpose was to reconcile the world to Himself. (2 Corinthians 5: 19)
Example # 2:
Jesus said “I and my Father are one”. Even the Pharisees knew what He meant, for they took up stones and wanted to kill Him - for “making himself God”. (John 10: 30 – 33)
Example # 3:
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
In John 8, Jesus proclaimed Himself to be the “I AM.” Again, the Pharisees wanted to stone Him for blasphemy, for they knew exactly what He was claiming. Only God could ever be called the “I AM”. (Exodus 3: 14; John 8: 58, 59) You know why the Pharisees could understand His claim to be God? Because they knew the scriptures, and they knew of the prophecies concerning the Messiah – they just refused to believe that this “lowly” servant born in a manger could be their King. (See John 8: 24 – 27)
Example # 4:
John 12: 45 “And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.” – Jesus.
Example # 5:
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob proclaimed Himself to be the “first and the last”. (Isaiah 44: 6). Jesus makes this same claim in Revelation 22: 13.
Example # 6:
Only God can forgive sins (Isaiah 43: 25), yet Jesus forgave sins. (Mark 2: 5 – 7)
Example # 7:
Only God can be worshipped (Luke 4: 8), yet Jesus was worshipped while He was here on earth. (See Matthew 2: 2, 11; Matt. 14: 33; Matthew 28: 9; John 9: 35 – 38; Hebrews 1: 6)
Finally, the ENTIRE BIBLE is the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3: 16; 2 Peter 1: 21). Therefore, if the bible declares Jesus to be God, then it is equivalent as God Himself saying it. I do not have to only look for “quotes” from Jesus, I just have to see it proclaimed in the scriptures.
Colossians 2: 9 (NASB) "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form."

(12/24/17) "Why A Virgin?" (Incarnation wk 3)
youtube
DOWNLOAD AUDIO Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
‘The Incarnation”, part 3, on Christmas Eve
Revelation, to KNOW Love, Father, Truth, Ourselves.
Relationships, to BE With, For, In. Ultimately, Union, ‘as one’, Invitation into Trinity.
2 weeks ago: From Heaven to Earth, ‘Communication & Communion’
Today: Earthly ‘Birth’ of the Incarnation, Christmas!
Part 2: Touched on it with Gal 4, and a bit in the Gospels.
Story: African chief has a revelation of Incarnation.
‘Why Incarnation’ asks, ‘Why a Virgin Birth’? Couldn’t God have just ‘given’ Himself ‘flesh’, like He did with angelic beings? Become ‘human’ without a ‘human being’?
Part 2, “Incarnation is an ‘expression’ of God’s Glory, His Love.” Jn 1:14, “We beheld His glory”, in the form [nature], likeness [resemblance], and [external] appearance of a Human. Phil 2:7-8 & Jn 17:5.
MARY [the Virgin]: A ‘link’, like John the B, the end/last of the Old to the Beginning of the
New. Represents ALL Humanity. He became Human so we might ALL ‘become’ true Human Beings, Incarnate. Mary [flesh] + the Word
Re: Birth, “You shall call His name Jesus … “, a personal Name given at birth He retains [Phil 2:10]. Immanuel [Isa 7 & Matt 1] ref to His character, His Presence, ‘with us’ – which Jesus repeats in Matt 28:20, “I AM with you always!”
Three Thoughts re: ‘Why a Virgin?’
IMPOSSIBLE
OT Precedent [part 2]: Sarah. Read Heb 11:11-12! She was ‘past the age’, beyond child bearing years. She was OLD … 90 yrs old!
Mary was not just ‘YOUNG’ … a Virgin. Both carry an element of the Impossible.
Faith [of Mary] + Word [Heb 3-4, Sarah judged Him faithful]. Jesus entered this world through a Woman/Virgin. Lk 1:37, “With God, nothing will be impossible!”
The Point: Jesus doesn’t need the help of Humans, of anyone else, to do what He does.
INDESCRIBABLE: Unique, ‘Holy’. His Likeness is Unlike any other! BTW: So is yours.
Article by Baruch A Levine, ‘Biblical Concept of Holiness’,
OT Prophecy: Read Gen 3:15 & Lk 1:35 (the ‘holy’, no other word present), ‘the Seed of the Woman’. Women do not have ‘seed’. It (the Word) was ‘sown’. The Holy Spirit + the Word + Woman [Luke’s remit]. Difficult to describe.
Jn 1:18, the ‘only Begotten … IS in the bosom of the Father’.
‘Begotten’ – Outside time without a mother [just Father], within time without a father [earthly], just a mother. Truly a Man, but not only a man. Within History, but above it!
Divine initiative, a direct work of God. Not a ‘new’ person, but the pre-existent, 2nd Person of the Trinity, ONLY Begotten [not created] Son of God! God Himself, not ‘joined’ to man, BECAME Man [Son of God, Son of Man]! Difficult to describe.
‘Bosom’ – Fathers carried their children, shepherds their lambs in their bosom (Lk 6:38), near the Heart. Jn 13:23, “leaning on”. Humanity in the bosom of the Son. Jn 17:23.
The Point: Jesus does what is necessary, in and out of time and history, in a Creative way.
INTIMACY: Fulfilled Longings & Desires (Hag 2:7) WITH God (Jn 1:1-2, “with God” 2x)
Immanuel ‘God with us’!
OT Promise: Read Deut 7:7-8 & Jer 31:3. Love, Intimacy of Destiny: Know Love, Father, Truth, Ourselves. Know Life? ‘HAVE LIFE’ (Jn 10:10)!!!! A Gift.
‘The Look of Love’ [facial expressions, ‘eyes’, ‘smile’, etc.]: Mercy-Acquittal, Kindness/Compassion-Innocent, Grace-Favor, Undeserved, Unearned, Sonship, etc.
Context: The Isa 7:14 Prophecy, Precedent & Promise.
Ahaz, king of Judah, very low. Pekah, king of Israel, was ransacking Judah; Rezin, king of Syria, in alliance with Israel. Ahaz terrified. The Lord sends Isaiah to Ahaz to relieve his fear; that Jerusalem and the house of David shall stand. Read Isa 7:10-14.
2 Things here: Miraculous Virgin Birth & the House of David [‘kingdom of David’] ‘shall stand until’ that Virgin Birth!
The Point: Read Heb 2:14-15 & 1 Jn 4:18. “No fear in love. Perfect love casts out fear.” IF God can become a Human, can do anything (“what He pleases”, Psa 135:6; ‘wraps Himself with Light’, Psa 104:2), create what is needed (in and out of Time) and loves us, what is there to fear? “Fear not. I AM.” No matter what degree of outcast, for whatever reason (‘a pregnant virgin’?!), fear not. Love overcomes, makes room in the Inn for Longings to be Fulfilled!

Someone to Celebrate. Our Daily Bread
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.—Psalm 95:6 Many manger scenes depict the wise men, or magi, visiting Jesus in Bethlehem at the same time as the shepherds. But according to the gospel of Matthew, the only place in Scripture where their story is found, the magi showed up later. Jesus was no longer in the manger in a stable at the inn, but in a house. Matthew 2:11 tells us, “On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” Realizing that the magi’s visit happened later than we may think provides a helpful reminder as we begin a new year. Jesus is always worthy of worship. When the holidays are past and we head back to life’s everyday routines, we still have Someone to celebrate. Jesus Christ is Immanuel, “God with us” (Matt. 1:23), in every season. He has promised to be with us “always” (28:20). Because He is always with us, we can worship Him in our hearts every day and trust that He will show Himself faithful in the years to come. Just as the magi sought Him, may we seek Him too and worship Him wherever we are. —James Banks Lord Jesus, just as the magi sought You and bowed before You as the coming King, help me to yield my will to You and to follow where You lead. When we find Christ we offer our worship. INSIGHT: The magi were considered wise, not because they were people of great learning but because they searched for Jesus and—having found Him—they worshiped Him as God. That’s what wise people do. The wise are those who fear God and worship Him! Sim Kay Tee
