Nope, sorry! People who have already died still fall under the no real people rule. Basically, it goes down to the fact that whatever people say, all we can really do is guess from their actions, and we don't want to make claims about the state of other people's souls. We can't know what is between someone else and God.

it never ceases to be so so so embarrassing whenever white christians think that 'allah' means some specific muslim deity when it's just the word for 'god' in arabic and arabic-speaking xtians, jews, muslims, etc all use it & also not knowing (or caring to know) that muslims also believe jesus, moses, abraham, etc were prophets (jesus was not god tho) and that the quran makes it clear that they all share the same god just different interpretations of that god lol. even the way the word 'muslim' is used in the quran is actually quite loose and inclusive of other monotheistic religions.

#i let myself put words on an already words and y'all are being suspiciously quiet about it #which is fine don't get me wrong but like #very sus 🤣#also going to say here on my own lil blog post that i do think there are many cults masquerading as christianity #i also think there are many churches that are christian in name that are instead cults #i have recently discovered how close i and my family were to falling into one #not like we were being led directly but like...#we were at a not safe distance going 'what a pretty mountain' and then while we wandered to a slightly safer distance #the mountain revealed itself as a volcano and exploded #like i can see and taste the ash but the lava flows didnt find me ya know?#anyways #had a recent discussion in sunday school about how there are several sects of religion that claim to worship and follow Jesus #but he is not the Jesus of scripture #and people have added doctrines to him often in works based salvation styles #of which latter day saints and jehovah's witnesses and several other things fall into #but so have the dangerously patriarchal fundamentalist churches #and we should just be very very very careful #that the God we are following is the one whose revealed word has withstood the test of thousands and thousands of years #and not a doctrine whose god and testimony cannot stand up to its own witness for a couple hundred years #ragamusings in the tags #my views on what makes good religion have so shifted in the past couple years #hopefully for the better and closer to the truth and further from what man has to say about it

I wonder what the historcal Jesus would think of modern Christianity

I don't even mean this in a "the Church has lost its way, for shame" way, I genuinely wonder what he'd think of it, cause a lot of core doctrines of what Nicene Christianity are a product of consensus and people dating back all the way to the Apostles having to interpret and fill in gaps in his teachings that he probably would've expanded on if he'd lived past his 30s

#I doubt the trinity would be a thing if he'd lived longer #the concept really feels like a way to reconcile him claiming to be god and the son of god #would jesus have agreed with paul on circumcision #no clue #the historical jesus probably saw himself as a religious reformer rather than the founder of a new religion #I guess the biggest hurdle would be that he doesn't speak any modern language #that would complicate things

throwback to my high school philosophy teacher trying to catch me with stuff like "actually Jesus never said he was God, did you know that" and smugly prove that I (kid who was read the bible from the age of 2 and got my own by like 7) didn’t know the gospels.

There’s plenty of passages that argue for Jesus’ divinity in them too #But my teacher’s argument wasn’t about the synoptic vs John or the historical Jesus vs what the gospel authors might have invented #His argument was that IN THE TEXT OF THE GOSPELS there was no point where Jesus claimed to be be God #Which is insane to me #How are you gonna be a philosophy teacher and not be more familiar with the utterly basic tenets of western culture’s core belief system #You can CLAIM that the ‘real’ Jesus never said it but you can’t possibly claim that he didn’t say it IN THE GOSPELS #French education is in shambles I swear #Also shoutout to my insane (affectionate) and brilliant very agnostic and very french American Literature and Civilisation college professo #Who spent three years straight ranting about the Logos and incarnation as intertext #I love you man you knew what was up #This is without even getting into the passages like ppl going “only God can forgive sins” and Jesus forgiving sins on the spot #Which btw happens in mark aka the earliest gospel and in Matthew aka the probably-written-in-Hebrew gospel #So it’s not something John made up as some culturally greek theological fan fiction
