Tumblr media
Invicta Fighting Championships today announced that Pam “Bam” Sorenson (7-3) and “The Striking Viking” Kaitlin Young (10-9-1) will battle for the promotion’s featherweight championship. The title tilt headlines a nine-fight Invicta FC 36 card, taking place in Kansas City, Kan. on Friday, Aug. 9.
Sorensen was last in action at Invicta FC 32, taking on former featherweight champion Felicia Spencer. Sorensen suffered defeat at the time but gets another crack at Invicta gold after Spencer signed with the UFC and vacated her title earlier this year.
A 12-year veteran of the sport, Young left the cage in 2014 and served as Invicta FC matchmaker before returning to competition last year. Since August, the MMA pioneer has experienced a career resurgence, reeling off three straight wins, including back-to-back stoppages.
Former strawweight title challenger Janaisa “Evil Princess” Morandin (10-2) returns to action in the Invicta FC 36 co-main event, welcoming newcomer Emily “Gordinha” Ducote (7-5) to the organization’s 115-pound division.
Also featured at Invicta FC 36:
Twenty-five-year-old atomweight prospects square off as Jessica Delboni (8-1) meets Lindsey “Damsel” VanZandt (6-1), who is coming off a win over Japanese kickboxing star Rena Kubota
UFC veteran Kailin Curran (6-7) looks to follow up on her impressive Phoenix Rising Series outing against a strawweight opponent to be named
Undefeated wrestler Stephanie “Hold Fast” Geltmacher (4-0) vies with Victoria “Fury” Leonardo (5-1) at flyweight
Atomweight Alyse Anderson (4-1) attempts to hand Anastasia Nikolakakos (3-0) her first career defeat
Owner of the fastest knockout in Invicta history, Chantel “Killa” Coates (1-0) clashes with fellow flyweight Caitlin “Ginger” Sammons (1-0)
Recent signees Erin Harpe (1-0) and Auttumn Norton (0-0) battle at bantamweight

Jessica Delboni takes UD over Danielle Taylor.
Not a great fight but a good win for Delboni following losing the title. Took some lumps as Taylor can land that big overhand when she decides to throw it. But it’s always few and far between. Delboni’s pressure and slightly higher work rate carrier her through this one as she really invested in kicking Taylor’s legs. She seemed frustrated trying to track down Taylor, both being wary of the counter and having difficulty with Taylor’s speed. But she found her target often enough to win out on the cards.
The John Dodson offensive playbook only works when you are a comparative puncher to John Dodson, who is both arguably one of the top 5 punchers and athletes in MMA history. And it didn’t work for him all the time either! Taylor has it in her mind that she’s got fight ending power, but that type of 1 punch counter punching power is RARE. Especially when you weigh 1115lbs. And ESPECIALLY when you’re not trying to engineer collisions that exacerbate your power. Taylor just waits around for her opponent to step into range and ends up losing staring matches she probably should win because she is a great puncher and a good athlete. But you have to put offense out there.

Invicta is back with an atomweight title fight this Sept. 28th.
Atomweight Title: Jéssica Delboni vs. Jillian DeCoursey
Flyweight: Kristina Williams vs. Ketlen Souza
Strawweight: Liz Tracy vs. Valesca Machado
Flyweight: Helen Peralta vs. Poliana Botelho
Bantamweight: Brittney Cloudy vs. Montserrat Rendon
Strawweight: Nadia Vera vs. Shauna Bannon
Fun card. Fun line up of fights. It’s been years since I made that “league of their own post” about Invicta, so I think I’ll make another seeing as their big 50 card is coming up, presumably at the end of the year of the beginning of the next.

Jessica Delboni vs Alesha Zappitella 2
Jessica Delboni (12-3) is a real worker. She (unfairly imo) loses her shot at the Invicta FC atomweight title against Alesha Zappitella. She doesn’t get down on herself, instead going on to take kickboxing bouts and compete in BJJ tournaments to stay active and get better. Then she wins a one night tournament to earn herself another shot. Then she puts on a fantastic performance leaving 0 doubt who the winner was. Great stuff.
Delboni will defend her title this Wednesday (Sept. 28) when she faces off against challenger Jillian DeCoursey (5-3) in the main event of Invicta FC 49.

Legit thought the fight was over when Delboni landed this. Props to Zappitella for being tough as hell.
