Agia Galini, a place of "Holy Peace" in South Crete
Agia Galini is a popular seaside resort, located 61 km southeast of Rethymno and 68 km southwest of Heraklion, about midway along the south coast of Crete. Agia Galini in Greek means “Holy Serenity” and that’s the description everyone will give to this place as it is very peaceful and the sea is always calm. Thousands of tourists spend their holidays in this place, enjoying the old harbour, the excellent beaches and the traditional village, which looks like time has never passed. In the past, Agia Galini was a small fishing village, but in the 60’s it saw large tourism development. The whole south of Crete became popular alongside hippies and naturists, enjoying the natural beauty at its fullness. Still, nowadays the area has a lot of fans who still visit the village every year. Agia Galini is a modern resort with all amenities provided to its visitors, but still maintaining its traditional character. You will find many options for your accommodation, restaurants, shops and entertainment. The village is built on the hill of a mountain and you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Libyan Sea. North of the village you will see the cliffs of the Cretan White Mountain, Psiloritis. West of Agia Galini you will find many beautiful rugged caves, which you can visit only by boat, but it will be worth your time. One of them is the famous Cave of Daedalus, the legendary craftsman of Greek Mythology and father of Icarus. They say that this cave was his workshop. You can also take a boat to the nearby beaches such as Preveli and St. George. Watching south of Agia Galini towards the Libyan Sea you will see two small islets, Paximadia, which you can visit by boat and swim in amazing beaches untouched by human hand. No one really knows the origin of the name Agia Galini, but the most popular story is about a Byzantine princess who was travelling to Jerusalem and her ship fell into a storm. She then started praying to the Virgin Mary, begging her to rescue them and swore to build a temple for her. Indeed, holy Mother heard her prayers and the ship managed to approach the small natural harbour of Agia Galini which is never wavy. The small princess kept her oath and built a church named “Panagia Galini”, the old church which still stands in the cemetery of Agia Galini. Agia Galini, is a small, tortuous village, with small old houses in the village which seem squashed by the larger apartments bouncing up in the area and the hotels in Agia Galini, built to accommodate rising numbers of visitors. What makes Agia Galini unique is the amphitheatrical layout of its houses on the hill, offering a wonderful view of the harbour and the Bay of Messara. The view of the village from the harbour is similarly lovely, especially in the evening and at night.

Tel Aviv, Israel Plus how to rent an apartment abroad, transfer smootly, carry a pen
Today’s Destination is: Tel Aviv, Israel
Today’s Misstep- Missing a smooth transfer from one transportation mode to another
Travel Advice: Carry a pen
FAQ: One of our Facebook group members asked for locations where she could live for 3-9 months in 2025. She wants tips on renting her condo, renting abroad past the AirBNB. She says she is open to anywhere, walkability, airport nearby, public transportation, and pools for swimming are her priorities. Can I help her?
Yes. Those are some great questions. First, where could you live? Next, rent the condo and then rent something for yourself abroad.
Living-Pick the area you like based on your tastes. I’d select Southeast Asia now because it is reasonably priced and relatively safe, and many English-speaking people live there.
Renting your condo- Finding the right person could be a lot of work. So ask your friends first. Who needs space for up to a year? Work out an arrangement to be away for that period and make a contract, even if it’s a friend. Tell as many people in advance as possible so they can spread the word.
Renting abroad- ideally, you could do a house swap. However, that may be difficult. You could also be a pet sitter or house sitter. Line up yourself for one of these options now if you can. You may look into sabbaticalhomes.com
https://www.sabbaticalhomes.com/pricing
Today’s destination: Israel (split into three parts, Jerusalem, Dead Sea/ Masada, and Tel Aviv. This is part 3 of three.
You will likely arrive at Ben Gurion Airport, which is very modern. It’s easy to get around Tel Aviv by train, tram, or bus. I stayed in Jerusalem for my first 5 days in Israel and explored the coastal regions.

The next day I went to Cesearia, on the water, a national park.

Another outing in Tel Aviv was a peaceful protest in Pardes Hana that I attended with kids and dogs in front of the town’s municipal building.

Look, the cradle of Christ exists in Bethlehem, [so] it has become a touristic city. I mean, why does a foreigner come to the region of Bethlehem? They consider it a pilgrimage [like] Muslims go to Hijaz. A visit to the cradle of Christ. When we first opened [the souvenir store], we had a good beginning. [But] then, when the American president moved the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, life was disrupted. Circulation is over, not only here but in the whole region. People became afraid [that] a war may occur, problems may occur, troubles and things. So circulation has stayed quite calm until today. There is no tourist like before. Basically, when tourists come to Bethlehem, when they come to me, they come penniless. Those ones arrive at [Tel Aviv] airport. [Talking to a pedestrian: “Welcome sir, come in!” Tourist: “I want to see magnets… We want something for Bethlehem.”]
The Jewish-Israelis take them to souvenir stores, and they arrive to us almost broke. It’s rare that people come here with money and buy. This is the tourism situation, in my opinion. At first, it was excellent, in the past. I mean, after ‘67, this square was open. Tourist buses used to station in this square, and the tourists used to hang around in the area. Bethlehem’s mayor came, one before whose name is Hanna Nasser. Almost ten, 15 years ago, he closed this square, banned the buses. Now the tourist bus goes down to the parking lot and pays the municipality. When it used to station in the square, there was excellent circulation. Translators came to me; taxi drivers came; tourists came. I mean, this area was really the best and the liveliest in Bethlehem. When they transferred the buses to the compound, it was over. – Mahmud

Shavua Tov - a good and blessed week! May we all be safe, our soldiers be successful, and our hostages rescued and return home healthy immediately! And may our enemies continue to have a very bad week!
⚠️THROUGHOUT FRIDAY and SHABBAT, ongoing alerts for northern communities to stay near protected spaces - with many rounds of ROCKET BARRAGES from Hezbollah against towns in the area.
⚠️CENTRAL ISRAEL - HOME FRONT COMMAND CHANGE.. from Rechovot to Haifa, restrictions on gatherings in central Israel - limited to 1,000 people outdoors. Sporting events and concerts are restricted for now.
♦️IDF ATTACKS LEBANON.. between Tyre and Sidon. Probably medium-range rocket complexes.
♦️YEMEN - US and UK airstrike in Saada district in the north of the country on Friday.
♦️GAZA - Non-stop artillery on Rafah, southern Gaza.
♦️ISRAEL WARNS.. The IDF broke into the communication networks of the airport in Beirut and updated: “an Iranian plane is expected to land at the airport in Lebanon. If the state of Lebanon allows it - the IDF will act.” (These “civilian” Iranian planes transferring weapons and experts from Iran.) The plane turned around and returned to Iran.
❗️GAZA - The IDF claims that the military wing of Hamas has been defeated in military terms and is now operating as a guerrilla organization.
⭕22 rounds of LARGE ROCKET BARRAGES across Israel, mostly the north, Safed and surrounds, Golan, but also Nahariya and surrounds, Migdal Emek and surrounds, Krayot and surrounds, Haifa, and several rounds at towns in the Shomron (Samaria) - likely targeting Jerusalem but falling short.
.. Interestingly Arab Israeli towns have been targeted, including the Arab Israeli city of Umm-al-Fahm (intercepted), and rockets fired towards Jerusalem hit Hwara, a very dangerous Arab (Palestinian) town in Samaria that is a source of frequent attacks - with a large rocket body falling on a roof.
.. Besides the barrages, a series of (10+) at rocket attacks direct at northern towns.
⭕2 rounds of BALLISTIC MISSILE attacks, one from Hezbollah, one from HOUTHIS-YEMEN, at central Israel - TEL AVIV area over Shabbat. Wide circle of alerts - a ballistic missile can fly as high as 4,000 km in space, so tracking the exact impact point is impossible, as well as if intercepted the range of area where rocket parts may fall. The missiles were intercepted by Arrow ballistic interceptors. A main rocket body FELL near Tzur Hadassah, which was outside the alert zone, onto the main road 375. Fortunately no vehicles were hit.
⭕INFILTRATION ALERT (resolved) - Mevo Hama (16:30 PM).. concern of border incursion. IDF responded.
🇺🇸HOUTHIS ATTACKED US warships in the Red Sea with anti-ship missiles, per the Houthis, on Friday.
▪️PM NETANYAHU returned to Israel on Shabbat, given the war situation. The official Israel plane, “Wing of Zion”, was escorted by two F-35 fighter jets.

According to officials, Israel has succeeded in almost completely curbing Iran's ability to transfer weapons to Syria and to manufacture weapons there.
By AMIR BOHBOT/WALLA!
Published: OCTOBER 23, 2022 12:41/Updated: OCTOBER 23, 2022 15:02
The Israeli military has destroyed about 90% of Iran's military infrastructure and attempts to entrench itself - with Hezbollah - in Syria, top officials in the defense establishment claimed over the weekend.
According to the officials, Israel has in recent years succeeded in almost completely curbing Iran's ability to transfer weapons to Syria, to manufacture weapons on the country's soil and to establish a base in it with pro-Iranian forces.
According to the sources, the plan of the former commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by the Americans in 2020, has failed due to the IDF’s continued air campaign against the forces in Syria. The last alleged attack attributed to Israel in Syria was Friday when local media reported that the IDF attacked near the airport in Damascus after about a month of relative silence.
The sources said that despite the tension between Israel and Russia – which recently threatened Jerusalem not to transfer arms to Ukraine - the deconfliction mechanism to prevent Russian-Israeli friction in Syria is working as usual. Periods without attacks, the sources said, are usually the result of an Iranian decision to suspend the smuggling of weapons to Syria, in order to try and find a new route to trick Israel.
The security officials emphasized that the IDF severely damaged Iran's smuggling routes from the sea, from the air and even from the land from Iran to Syria.
As a result of the attacks, the ability of the Syrian army to produce weapons and ammunition has also been damaged since the Iranians and Hezbollah used the same factories for the production of their weapons.
The focus of the attacks in recent years has also been to stop the smuggling of components for CERS – the Centre D’Etudes et de Recherches Scientifiques (CERS) in Masyaf that is used by Iran to produce advanced missiles and weapons for its proxies.
Along with this, the assessment in Israel is that Syrian President Bashar Assad has reduced the activity of Iran and Hezbollah in his country, with an emphasis on the Syrian Golan Heights and the south of the country.
According to sources in Israel, Assad has realized that in the coming years he will not be able to regain territories occupied by the Kurds, including the Turks, and instead focuses his power on trying to restore stability to the major cities with an emphasis on Damascus and the region including the coastline.
