The Jersey Devil Show at Albert Music Hall
For people who know The Wedding Funeral, All Hallows’ Eve doesn’t just end on All Hallows’ Eve. The NJ pinelands have been called the most eerie forest in America. We just call it home. And so does a certain creature whose roots go back to the origins of America itself. This Saturday, we celebrate this monster in only one place where it is best to do so, Albert Music Hall. The Pinelands Cultural…

Batona Trail, Pakim Pond -> Route 532 Brendan T. Byrne State Forest 8.75 miles 45 ft. Elevation Gain
Another leg of the Batona done with my momma. 3rd pine barrens hike in a row, but Fall is here and it makes the hidden lakes deep in the woods super scenic!

This July, join us for nocturnal nature appreciation in the New Jersey Pine Barrens!
We'll gather at 7pm and do a short walk around the pond, followed by a few hours of observing the animals that come to a "light sheet", which will attract various insects, including lots of moths!
This location is great because we can reliably find carnivorous plants, and see a whole variety of critters. Previous Moth Nights we've seen snakes, bats, foxes, turtles, frogs, birds, beetles, and so many moths!
This year, we are doing TWO moth nights. One will be for a general audience, the other more art-focused. You do NOT need to be a professional artist to attend the art night. We'll just have more people painting and drawing than our typical moth nights!
July 13: General Audience July 20: Artist Night
Things to bring: -Snacks & Beverages! -A chair or blanket -Bug Spray! -Headlamps/flashlights -Art supplies/Cameras/etc.
We see stuff like this:

Why no famous horror or fantasy movie has been set in the NJ Pine Barrens yet is beyond me. 🤷‍♀️ The color of that water is natural; it's from bog iron.

Hey, quick question. Is the Jersey Devil furry like a dog? Woolly like a sheep? Or hairy like a horse?
Followup question, if pine trees were the strands of hair on some horrifically massive eldritch beast, they'd be woolly, right? All those branches would act like barbs and snag together. You could spin them into yarn.
Theoretically.

Frightening beast of the Jersey Pine Barrens the Jersey Devil. This monster dates back to the early days of the United States. Declared to be a Devil by his own mother after being born as her 13th child. Even to this day it is said to still lurk in the pine barrens. There is even a festival held in there honor.

Lebanon Trail Brendan T Bryan State Forest, NJ 11.56 miles 122 ft. Elevation Gain
I don't know why, but I was really craving a hike in the Pine Barrens today. The Lebanon Trail is mostly back road walking, but still so scenic! You technically can take a vehicle with 4 wheel drive on this route, but I decided to walk it, obviously!
