been relistening to TAZ Balance lately, because d&d is one of the few things keeping me sane these days, and had to take a break from the final episode because I nearly started sobbing while making dinner

because Griffin asks Travis, “How does Magnus die?”

what follows is a beautiful, heart-wrenching scene on its own. but what I want to highlight is Travis’ response to that question. because he pauses and says, “you know, if you’d asked me that a while ago, I probably would have said he died epically, in a battle or something.” Travis then goes on to talk about how his attitude towards Magnus’ hypothetical death has shifted a lot because of all the trials and heartache and triumphs and pain that Magnus has gone through, and how close Travis is to Magnus as a character. he ends with “I think Magnus dies peacefully of old age.” and Griffin gives him that, and it’s wonderful and sad and cathartic. Magnus dies of old age, surrounded by his friends, his found family. 

but what made me lose it was how closely this parallels with Dean, and Jensen’s attitudes towards Dean as a character, and how truly wrong Dean’s ending was, ultimately. and I know this has been talked about to death already, by people smarter and more eloquent than me, but it’s so clear that Jensen, like Travis, grew from envisioning Dean dying in a blaze of glory, to wanting Dean to be able to enjoy the reward of a well-earned life. and ultimately, Jensen was right, because Dean had, in the words of Cas, “fought for this whole world,” but then wasn’t allowed to actually live in it, which was what he deserved. the “reward” of Heaven doesn’t work for Dean, because he was never fighting to go there. he only fought to live, to be free. and he had that stripped away from him at the last moment. it’s not even tragic; it’s simply just cruel

Griffin was a smart and compassionate DM, and he listened to his brother’s thoughts on his character, because his brother knew Magnus more deeply than anyone else and would contribute to a satisfying ending. the network would have done well to do the same with Jensen “deankin” Ackles

Zodiac: Carcinogenics. Cancer. It’s...it’s a joke about cancer. I’m a Cancer. Homestuck did not invent the ‘carcino’ prefix alright that’s why he’s got that handle because ‘carcino’ means cancerous

Height: 6′. Much to the chagrin of my boyfriend.

Hogwarts: Hufflepuffle but like...I never really engaged much in HP

Last thing I Googled: Whether ‘carcino’ actually was a prefix that meant cancer or not (it is)

Sleep: Generally around 6 hours or so. I’m trying to go for 8 but I stay up late a lot of the time and if I want 8, I have to go to bed at around 11:30

Lucky Number: This one’s easier to read spelled out than with actual numbers. Came up with it when I was in Grade 4, added onto it in Grade 6, and kept it. Seventeen-hundred sixty-twelve point fourteen (1772.14, 17612.14, or 17006012.14 depending on how you want to note it.) I just wanted to make the most incorrectly phrased number. ‘Seventeen-hundred’ starts out alright, it’s a little unconventional compared to ‘one thousand, seven hundred’ but it works. ‘Sixty-twelve’ is just flat-out wrong. And ‘point fourteen’ is an incorrect way of saying ‘point one four’. So...yeah there’s a whole paragraph about my lucky number. As of yet, it has not come up. My discord tag is actually a reference to this number, if you have me on discord.

Dream Job: A fiction author. Not a super-duper famous one, but...I’d love to be able to write stories, whether they be books, games, podcasts, campaigns...I just love making worlds and characters.

Wearing: An old ‘ENFP’ shirt (The Myers-Briggs ENFP) that my mom got me for my 17th birthday. Or was it Christmas? Anyway it’s a really comfy shirt even if the design on the front is super faded.

Favourite Instrument: I’ve got a few. I love the way the guitar sounds but I absolutely hate its layout. This is because I grew up playing the piano and singing (my favourite ones to play well) and the piano is very well-organized. B and A are next to each other, and C# is between C and D. The guitar was made by someone who hates order. Or if they like order, they made the guitar according to the rules of fuckin 4D Chess. As for my favourite instrument to play that I can’t play well, that’d have to be the theremin.

Basic things to understand about filming with prop guns:

Prop guns are either fake rubber props that do not discharge anything, or real guns that are loaded with blanks.

Blanks, which consist of gun powder and paper, can still cause injury or death. No blanks should ever be used in close range and no real ammunition should ever even be anywhere on set.

When a prop gun is on set, it is only to be handled by the armorer when it is not in the hands of the actor for the scene

Before a prop gun is handed to the actor, it must be checked by the armorer that there is no ammunition. If there is no ammunition, the armorer says, "cold gun," and the cast and crew confirm they heard this by repeating, "cold gun."

Actors using prop guns are required to rehearse with the armorer and stunt coordinator and/or fight choreographer several times just before filming any scene it is used in.

Basic things to understand about the Rust film set shooting:

Rust is a western film about an accidental killing and it's aftermath starring Alec Baldwin and Jensen Ackles, filmed in Santa Fe on the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a place known for western films.

There were at least 2 other confirmed misfire incidents during filming prior to this incident, one of which involved Baldwin's stunt double, who fired a gun that he had been told was cold.

A production unit manager received a text before the incident: "We've had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe."

Several crew members had walked off the set just hours prior, citing unsafe working conditions including COVID and gun safety violations. Several who did not walk off were ordered off by producers. Many of these crew were replaced with nonunion workers.

Assistant Director David Halls picked up a prop gun from a cart prepared by Armorer Hannah Guttierez Reed and said, "cold gun," before handing it to Baldwin. The cast and crew repeated "cold gun" as per the rule.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was crouched behind a camera operator on a dolly, setting up the camera angle for the scene. Director Joel Souza was crouched behind her.

Baldwin, Hutchins, and Souza rehearsed the scene once without incident.

They rehearsed the scene a second time when a live round fired, narrowly missing the camera operator, striking and passing through Hutchins' chest before finally hitting Souza in the shoulder.

Baldwin dropped the gun and cried out, "Why did you give me a hot gun?" presumably at Halls or Reed.

Reed took the weapon and removed the spent bullet casing before giving it to police.

Souza was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he was released later that day.

Hutchins was airlifted to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Baldwin has been cooperating with police in the investigation.

The American Society of Cinematographers president Stephen Lighthill stated, "This was not an accident. This was a preventable incident... Somebody didn't do their job."

I understand that The Hunger is supposed to contrast the Light of Creation but I think that it would have been more interesting if, rather than being composed of dark material, it looked. Prettier, and less imposing
