I found an old piece for Jenny that I never posted! She is one of my absolute fav characters her story is so sad but it’s still beautiful. In my notes for it the flowers in her hair are representative of madness, undying love, love, grief, consuming love, and sorrow.

Firstborn and heir to the throne after his father, king Aegon V, Duncan was travelling through the Riverlands when he met a mysterious young woman, a commoner, named Jenny of Oldstones. They fell in love, and to be able to marry her Duncan abdicated his position as heir, and was later known as the “dragonfly prince”. Duncan will die at the fire of Summerhall, while Jenny is presumed to have survived but disappeared after the incident, making her story a mystery.

It is funny that people in Westeros are so quick to call a woman "a witch" when she challenges the status quo. Much like in our world of course.

Alys Rivers was the witch queen of Harrenhal because Aemond made her his Lady. Gods forbid, the prince could fall in love with a lowborn woman. She must have "bewitched" him, he couldn't just appreciate her because in the minds of the nobility it was degrading to love a commoner.

Jenny of Oldstones was "a witch" because she claimed that she came from long gone kings. It was too much for the fellow peasants. As if such things like fallen houses never happened. Jenny was too much for the nobility as well because she won the heart of Crown Prince and they couldn't accept a lowborn girl as their future queen.

The funniest rumors were those about Sansa Stark who allegedly turned into a winged wolf and flew out the window when Joffrey died.

Of course I am aware that magic is as real in this universe as anything. And I understand that some women in Westeros and Essos use magic. But the rumors about these women are not so much grounded in people's personal experience with them and their alleged magic as in their prejudices against women in general. A girl got a man above her status? She must have tricked him! A prince gave up his crown for a commoner girl? She must be a witch! A woman ran off from an abusive rich guy? How dared she break free!

PRINCE DUNCAN TARGARYEN:The first to disobey aegon was his eldest son, Duncan, prince of rocadragon and heir to the throne. Despite being engaged for a long time to a daughter of baratheon house, bastion of storms, in 239 AD, during a journey through the lands of the rivers, he fell in love with a strange, beautiful and mysterious young woman who called herself Jenny of oldstones and lived ina state of semi-savagery among the ruins, calling herself the successor of the ancient Kings of the first men, although in the villages of the area people mocked those tales and insisted that she was only a half-crazy peasant, if not a witch.His majesty did everything possible to annul the marriage and demanded that Duncan give up Jenny, but the prince, who had inherited his father's stubbornness, refused, and did not even twist his arm when the supreme septon, the grand master and the privy council met to insist that king aegon force his son to choose between the iron throne and that savage of the woods. Instead of renouncing Jenny, he did so to his rights to the throne, in favour of his brother jaehaerys, and abdicated as prince of rocadragon.

Duncan Targaryen and Jenny of Oldstones are exactly the romantic storyline Rhaegar and Lyanna are erroneously interpreted as:

-Duncan Targaryen was the eldest son of Aegon V, who fell in love with Jenny of Oldstones, who was a peasant girl. He gives up his claim to the Iron Throne and breaks his betrothal to Lyonel Baratheon's daughter so he could marry Jenny, without any personal consequence for him, but ends with his younger sister Rhaelle being offered as a glorified hostage to the Baratheons so they could be appeased because they rebelled due to the broken betrothal, his younger siblings being emboldened to do the same, which leads to Aegon V's reforms failing, Rhaella being forced to marry at 12 and eventually, Summerhall.

When Barristan said that Jenny's dowry was paid with corpses, it means it was literally paid with corpses.
