Waxwork (1988)
My rating: 7/10
Weird how they have all these horrible monsters, but the one that gets the most screen time is basically just some kinky Frenchman. Well, the kinky Frenchman, but still. I guess his make-up was cheaper.

Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.

I was super bored several weeks ago and ranked a bunch of different version of one song and that’s been sitting in my notes for a while now but I’m posting this today cause I felt like anyways here’s
Ranking different versions of Almost Like Being in Love by how in love the singer sounds to me
James Taylor- 8/10 the intro threw me off a bit but as soon as he starts singing the man sounds pretty in love (he sounds like he’s reminiscing about a really good day), he’s walking down a pier at sunset having a good time thinking about someone
Natalie Cole-6/10 the first half is not very in love (with the exception of a word or two here) but after she scats a little she sounds much more in love
Seth MacFarlane- 6/10 including the intro makes him sound a lot more in love- trying to sound like Sinatra a little too much (I.e. smug about about being in love) the occasional repeating of words makes him sound a tinny bit more in love
Nat the king Cole- 7/10 the piano is carrying the love feeling here but his diction does sound pretty in love
Frank Sinatra- 4/10 smug about being in love, his repetition of almost didn’t sound in love enough, sounds like walking down the street by yourself after a pretty good date but not a great one
Vic Damone- 2.5/ 10 he’s only singing it cause they told him to not cause he’s in love- he randomly slows down the song to sound more in love and the forcedness of it loses him a point, the repetition of love gets him half a point back, if you told me the horn players were in love I’d believe it but him, nah
Ella Fitzgerald- 8/10 was going to rank this lower but it became progressively more in love, you can hear her smiling, she surprised by her own love
Gene Kelly- 10/10 you can here him smiling, give off an in love sigh, and fall backwards by how in love he is, walking home after meeting the person you’re gonna marry, giddy, childish in a good way, slows down a second because he’s just that in love (take a hint Vic), the classic too emotional to sing so the music takes over for a second all to express how in love he is, the ending 😮‍💨👌🏼
Laura samuels and Sophia Evans- 7/10 Duet!!! Extra points, the speed up tempo gives the stars in theirs eyes as they sing, also gives impression of dancing with their partner at the end, the second singer sounds more in love than the first but both are very happy about being in love, bonus points for the sapphic vibes
Patrick Wilson and Kellie O’Hare- 7/10 very excited that he is in love, Kellie is more in love, the slowed down part was excellent in selling the love
Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy- 6/10 he’s content with being in love, not much to say here, you can here some hearts floating around his head, here Jack is more in love
Shirley Bassey- 4/10 also has a weird, unearned slowed down part, not very in love but doesn’t make me mad by how insultingly indifferent about it it is
Jennifer Nettles- 4.5/10 singing like Madonna not like she’s in love, not much to say just kinda meh, the slowed down part at the ending helps it
Michael Johnson- 1/10 are you trying to seduce me with this song???, the vibe he gives it is completely wrong for this song, I think you CAN believe this is real, the sax is all wrong for this, almost like being in love is NOT a sensual song what are you doing, random woodblock???, at least Vic understood the genre and context of the song
Austin Giorgio- 5/10 for the singer he sounds pretty average about being in love BUT THE BAND 100/10, the band is so great I feel awful about having him so low but man needs to sound in love not just amazing at singing
Jo Stafford- 5/10 She doesn’t sound very in love but I feel pretty in love right now (with her if that wasn’t clear)
Diana Krall- 5/10 very sleepy version, also not too in love but it’s sounds alright, very played quietly at a restaurant vibes
Shy Baldwin- 6.5/10 the girls hate being there but the Dude he’s in love, probably with himself, but in love nonetheless, bonus points for heaven above
Emile- Claire Barlow- 8/10 the intro tricked me (where she already sounds in love) the rest is also very in love, you can hear her smile, it’s ringing just for me 😆😆
David Brooks and Marion Bell- 5/10 he sounds pretty averagely in love, she’s also averagely in love
Jonny Hartman and Gerald Wilson- 6/10 First singer is pretty in love, doesn’t wow me but those dudes are in love (not with each other tho)
Melanie- 5/10 averagely in love but pretty weird version of the song, idk if I like it or not, she’s certainly in love with the drugs she took before this take, I wanna make her score lower for the weird version of the song but it doesn’t effect how in love she sounds
Jonny Mathis- 8/10 he was on love, their love is gone now and I’m upset now, great emotion, give me a bad enough day and this song would 100% make me cry
Chris Conner- 3/10 the stacco of the notes takes away the in loveness, give it room to breath ma’am, changing the rhythm a little feels like it’s forcing the love feeling, not in love
Nicole Henry- 7/10 she’s 100% in love, I really like this version idk what else to say, love the changing context of the song by her additional lyrics at the end
Nancy Wilson- 8/10 Giddy with love, she’s wants to tell everyone she’s in love
Billy Stewart- 6/10 very jazzy, I like how he sings it, and the band is great but as for sounding in love eh, he loves performing
Nana Mouskouri and Torrie Zito- 4/10 interesting arrangement, good voice but doesn’t sound in love
Eydie Gorme- 5/10 slight hispanic edition!!!, average about love but that band is great

Thank you to the person/people who have been submitting so much propaganda recently! I appreciate the enthusiasm and it makes the tournament so much better to have more visuals of the nominees. Here's the updated list of those that have neither visual nor written (nor audio) propaganda:
Bessie Jones
Barbara Keith
Jennifer Warnes
Written propaganda is well and good, and it really gives some good reasons why a particular nominee is so wonderful, but in a contest about looks, it helps that we can see more of a person! The following nominees have WRITTEN propaganda, but NO VISUAL propaganda:
Shirley Bassey
Ivy Benson
Diahann Carroll
Patsy Cline
Rosemary Clooney
Doris Day
Sandy Denny
Maureen Evans
Annie Haslam
Mary Hopkin
Betty Hutton
Sonja Kristina
Peggy Lee
Lulu
Anni-Frid Lyngstad
Liza Minnelli
Stevie Nicks
Virginia O'Brien
Anna Russell
Melanie Safka
Doreen Shaffer
Patti Smith
Barbra Streisand
Don't feel pressured to submit for these ladies, but they're the most in need of visuals right now. Of course, feel free to submit more written propaganda, if you want, it's always fun! Get in your propaganda by June 25th at midnight PST to have it included in the post!
