So, picked up this souvenir at Geek Kon. Thanks to @jeffnimoyanime for donating the script for the first episode of Data Squad to the charity auction- I had a great time, got an awesome souvenir, and all the money went to a great cause. Definitely an amazing con weekend.

Coexistence just reminded me that I still don't understand exactly what Tai's deal was in The Connection. I hope that amuses you. :)
Fanfic questions (and comments) skip the line!
Yes, that amuses me greatly! Between the human/Digimon hostility, theexploration of the epilogue, Taichi’s behavior, and the occasionalmonstrosity or invader from another season, tri. often feels likesomething I’d write. Meiko and Michi’s angst come from a verysimilar place.
It’s meant to be open to interpretation, but my answer is Tai is aguardian spirit (called a god by a couple characters) in Takato’sworld.
Tai’s death was the final blow that led to Digimon being removedfrom the real world. Takato’s world was created to start over andtry it again. As it was created to carry out Tai’s dream ofpeacefully coexisting worlds, his spirit founds its way into it. Youcould interpret him as being responsible for things like thedigignomes, but his primary feat was linking the world to theAdventure real world and allowing Takato to take his journey. Hisappearance at the end of the story was his way of cheating fate andgiving Takato and Riley the peace and closure they needed anddeserved.
Side note for Connection readers: I was delighted to learn that, justas I wrote the Tamers world as being a simulation within theAdventure world, @jeffnimoyanime headcanoned the Data Squad world as asimulation within Adventure as well (Yggdrasil was cast with this inmind). We had a nice bonding moment over this!
