Oscar Peterson "My Favorite Instrument" 久し振りの"Exclusively for My Friends"シリーズ、お復習になりますが下記の6部で、( )内は録音年月です。 ●Vol.1 "Action" (March 1963/April 1964) ●Vol.2 "Girl Talk" (Late 1965, November 1966, November 1967, April 1968) ●Vol.3 "The Way I Really Play" (November 12, 1967) ●Vol.4 "My Favorite Instrument" solo piano (April, 1968) ●Vol.5 "Mellow Mood" (April 1968) ●Vol.6 "Travelin' On" (April 1968) 未購入はVol.6だけになりました。 本作は、シリーズ中唯一のソロです。ピーターソンはピアノ・トリオの期間が長く、もちろんどの作品も当たりはずれのない安定した素晴らしい演奏を聴かせてくれますが、アート・テイタムと並んで、ソロ向きのピアニストだと私は思います。 確かなテクニックから奏でられる誰にも真似の出来ない豊かな表現力は、他の楽器は不必要、ソロですべてを伝えられるからです。"一人芝居"を演じられるピアニストは、そう多くはいないでしょう。 また、音数の多い超絶技巧ばかりではなく、Side 2-4 "Little Girl Blue"のような静かなバラッドもタッチが繊細で美しく、華麗さと優雅さを併せ持ち、妙なフレーズや奇をてらわないことも、ソロにはうってつけだと思います。 録音は、もちろんこのシリーズに共通の全く文句の付けようのない美しい音色です。Sumico Pearlの繊細さが絶妙、真空管アンプ+フォノイコも素晴らしいです。低音域は身体に振動として伝わり、高音域は澄んでどこまでも届くようです。彼の声も聞こえるほどリアリティがあります。 1972年にトリオを解散しソロ・ピアニストとして活動するようになりますが、本作では早々にその自由奔放な思いのままのプレイを楽しんでいる姿を見ることが出来ます。 本作のシリーズは、MPSのオーナーであるブルナー・シュワァー氏の自宅でお客を招いてのパーティー形式でのピアノ・プレイを録音した珍しいものですが、Verveの契約切れを持ってMPSから発売。しかし発売予定の枚数に取り置きの音源が足りなくなったので、急遽追加録音して発売したのが、このソロ・アルバムだそうです。1945年からのレコーディングの中でも20年振りに生まれた初のソロ・アルバムだと言うことですから、ピーターソンのソロはこの1枚と言っても過言ではないでしょう。 このシリーズは再三再発されていますが、本盤はテイチクからのMPSベイシック・セレクション"2000"と言う日本盤です。そう言えば、このシリーズ、私が所有しているのは、全部日本盤です。 #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #jazzvocal #ジャズシンガー #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード #OscarPeterson *作品を知るとジャズはもっと輝きます。情報くださる先輩諸氏に感謝。 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp9EfQ_PcSf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Elmo Hope Trio Featuring Philly Joe Jones 邦題｢チュニジアの夜｣、久々エルモ・ホープで"幻"のセッションなら、これも匂い即買い。 RCAレーベル (RVJ-6019)日本盤、スイングジャーナル選定ゴールド・ディスク。本作の存在は知りませんでした。 帯に｢世界初のLP化、故エルモ・ホープの最高傑作ついに登場！｣との表記ですが、本当ですかねぇ～？と言うのもA-1 Sound Studios, NYでの1966年3月8日(Side 1-1,2,3, 2-1)と1966年5月9日(Side 2-2,3)の録音だから... 。 "幻"その1... 本作は、アメリカのInnercityと言うマイナー・レーベルのElmo Hope "Last Session"(RJ-7337)の続編。発売前までディスコグラフィー等にも記載されていない、テープの存在すら全く知られていなかったホープ最晩年の貴重な演奏。このセッションは、Atlanticの創設者のひとりハーブ・アブラムソンの監修で、当初はFestivalと言うレーベルから発売される予定だったところ、お蔵入りになってしまいInnercityレーベルが買い取って発売したという"幻"の作品。私を含めファンには堪らない発掘盤です。 "幻"その2... ホープは、薬物使用のせいでニューヨークのキャバレー出演許可証を失ったため1957年にロサンゼルスに。しかし、西海岸のジャズ界に幻滅して1961年にニューヨークに戻りますが、またしても薬物所持のために短期間投獄、釈放後に演奏活動を再開したものの録音はほとんど行わず。で、その期間の貴重な録音が本作、なので"幻"。翌1967年に薬物の過剰摂取のため急死... と言うお決まりの人生。 "幻"その3... 演奏についてですが、1961年のCelebrity, Beaconレーベルの2枚とは別人です。バド・パウエル直系の強く明快なタッチと流れるようなフレーズが持ち味だったと思いますが、もたもたしていて微妙に外れます。ジャッキー・マクリーンみたい。麻薬漬けの人生を閉じる前年の録音ですので、当時の不安定な感情が表れているように感じますね。 表現は、冒頭お馴染みのバップ・スタンダード"Night In Tunisia"、この大胆な解釈こそが彼の特異性かも知れません。コール・ポーターのSide 2-1 "I Love You"もジョージ・ガーシュインの2-3 "Somebody Loves Me"も非常に斬新で自由な彼の個性が溢れています。 それにしても本作のフィリー・ジョーのドラムスは、いつもにも増して物凄い迫力ですね。音量を上げるとスピーカーが抜けそうなくらい叩きまくりです。確かにFeaturingで間違いない。 さて、音質は1966年なら決して誉められたものではないでしょう。Shure SC35Cでも楽器の音は硬く、チャンネル・セパレーションも弱いですね。真空管アンプ+フォノイコは奥行きがあるので、まだ聴けるのかも知れません。通常のプリメイン・アンプだともっと尖るか、暴れると想像します。 #ElmoHope (p) #JohnOrr (b) #PhillyJoeJones (ds, 1-1,2,3, 2-1) #CliffordJarvis (ds, 2-2,3) Engineer - #HerbAbramson , #AndrewBerliner Producer - #HerbAbramson Photo Courtesy Of - LynMaggs From The Collection Of Mrs. #BerthaHope Designed By #MasataniCogo #jazz #fuzey #vinyl #jazzvinyl #vinylcollection #jazzvocal #ジャズシンガー #ジャズ #スイングジャーナル #レコード *作品を知るとジャズはもっと輝きます。情報くださる先輩諸氏に感謝。 https://www.instagram.com/p/CohmqNkv_ED/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
