Hmmmm... This one and this one I guess -digs through old AU/Prompts ideas and starts tossing them into a melting pot to make something new-
Royal errors, maybe Ghost King (Or just very powerful and respected by the Infinite Realms) Danny, AND deaged Dan and Ellie. With half-sibling Damian.
Talia is a woman with many, many secrets, this is a cold hard fact.
She has so many secrets its no wonder not a single living soul knows them all...
So when seventeen, almost eighteen, Damian really shouldn't had been surprised (he was though) when out of the blue he gets a call from an unknown number that somehow bypasses his firewalls against unknown numbers about his apparent five year old half-sister and brother Helen 'Ellie' Fenton and Dante 'Dan' Fenton.
That their father, Daniel Fenton was taken (by a shady should had been disbanded government agency) and they couldn't get a hold of their mother Talia at all (she was in a middle of stopping a coup happening, a rival assassin group, AND some idiots trying to revive Ra's at the same time, thus radio silent). About how Ellie and Dan were in danger of being taken as well but they needed to put in them a safe place so they could go rescue Danny before word gets out to... well lets just say some very POWERFUL beings weren't going to be happy and they are working on very limited time to get him back.
Jasmine Fenton tells him she knows he had no clue about his mother being with her brother and having kids with him, its something she and Talia often got into small arguments about but try not to bring it up to often around Danny, Dan, or Ellie, and that his relationship with her is often... rocky but she begs him to please watch over them while she, and her brother's best friends go a rescue mission for him.
That they were two very scared five year olds that had to watch their father be taken away after he barely managed to get them to safety and that Damian was the only one she could think of being able to watch over and least protect them at this serious moment.
Damian, and the rest of the family, are stunned silent when Jasmine finishes explaining, her voice on the verge of breaking and no doubt she was trying so hard not to sob.

DPxDC Gala, But It's Not Wayne, It's Masters
This just lives rent-free in my brain, so I'm here to share. And maybe get help.
Batfam probably don't only go to galas and events in Gotham, right. Bryce Wayne is a rich bitch and WE has contracts and ties around the world, so Wayne Wards have to attend events out of state (and out of country) from time to time. This time, they are invited by Vladimir Masters, the owner of DalvCo.
Coincidentally, Vladimir Masters is rumored to have some hidden Kryptonite stash. So Bruce decides to go, taking some of his kids with him, because it is also rumored that Masters has two wards of his own, and, first, Bruce has to bring his kids for disguise, second, he needs them for some team building, bonding and whatnot, and last, he really needs to check if Masters' children are living in a safe environment. Cue all his family making fun of him for wanting to adopt more kids.
What makes the jokes even worse is that both Master's kids have black hair and blue eyes.
When they arrive, they are greeted with a sight of a full-sized gothic castle. It looks really out of place in Illinois, but the vampire vibes are there, definitely. And said vibes only become stronger when they meet Vladimir and his kids - all three of them are giving the Batfam goosebumps, and not in a good way. Now, the things capable of giving Bats goosebumps are very, very limited. And never good.
Vladimir - he insists they call him Vlad - is a fairly tall, gray-haired man with piercing eyes. His smile is nice and polite, but it kind of reminds Tim of Ra's, which is, well, not a good thing. But overall, he is... Okay. They can definitely take him down if they need to (they really can't, but they don't know it).
The kids, though. They are twins, probably fifteen or sixteen, a boy and a girl, and they look like they came straight from a horror movie. Calm and even, mirroring each other's gestures and finishing each other's sentences, no facial expressions, and they don't seem to be blinking. Cass has a hard time getting anything from the way they hold themselves - they seem to only show any kind of emotion when they are addressed. Damian can't shake off a feeling of being watched, even though the twins barely look at him. Tim, raised in a family of socialites, notices how both of them have really nice manners, the kind you learn when someone teaches you etiquette specifically.
Bruce is unnerved by the sight. Are the kids mind controlled? Are they okay? This is definitely not how kids should act at fifteen at a gala, holy shit. Granted, he's seen not that many kids at galas, but the point still stands.
Now, at this point, I have a few ways this can go. First one, the suffering orphans way, Danny and Dani are actually controlled by Vlad, who wanted perfect heirs. Second, the little shits way, Danny made a deal with Vlad to attend a gala and Dani joined him, so now they are having fun with acting as eerie as possible since Vlad strictly forbidden them from shenanigans. This can be either redeemed Vlad or not. Third, the demonic twins' way, where Vlad is definitely redeemed and is taking care of the Fenton kids, raising them however he sees fit. Jazz is also under his care, but she is mostly an adult now, and they have more of a 'caretaker on paper and legally not old enough to live on her own' relationship than a 'parent and daughter' one.
Do the Waynes befriend them? Do Bats get caught while investigating? Do Danny and Dani cause trouble at the gala? Maybe they get to prove to Bruce that they are, indeed, perfectly happy about living with Vlad?

(ok, hear me out.)
Bruce looks around the dinner table and realizes, jasons dating Jazz, Cass is dating Danny, Tim is dating Ellie, and Stephanie is dating Sam. A tiny paranoid voice in his head says that Team Phantom is taking his family.
ok maybe he just needs some sleep.
But what if this is a plan of taking his family?
(I’m hearing you out >:) not sure if I understood it tho :/)
The moment Bruce left the dinner table, everyone paused, as if waiting to see if he’d come back. Then Jazz started another debate with Jason and the conversation resumed. Everyone chatted as they ate and then helped Alfred clean up, who shooed them away from the kitchen when they finished bringing him the plates and utensils.
Dick stretched with a low hum. He received a kiss from Dan for his troubles, and he laughed as he remarked, “Wow, dinner was even better than usual!”
Tim hummed. “It’s because these guys are here.”
“Well, we still have the rest of the night for ourselves, right? Wanna go to the arcade?” Dani asked, tugging at his and Kon’s hands. “We can go to my apartment later.”
“You mean, my apartment,” Jazz said in amusement.
“Same thing!” Dani laughed. Tim and Kon agreed and off they went, with Kon and Dani flying into the night with Tim in their arms.
Dan looked at Dick. “Shall we go home?”
Dick shook his head. “I want to go get some groceries first.” He turned to Damian and asked, “Want to come with, Dami?”
Damian looked at Dan, who just blinked, before Damian nodded. They went off together.
Sam said, “C’mon, Steph, we can’t let them have fun without us, right? Let’s go to the arcade too, or we can go look at the mall.” Stephanie happily hugged Sam’s arm and they also left the manor.
Jazz kissed Jason’s cheek and said, “Let’s go back to your apartment, okay?”
Jason perked up and then he wrapped an arm around her waist before calling out teasingly, “You kids be safe! Don’t add to the population, don’t subtract to the population, don’t do anything dangerous!”
“Tell that to yourself!” Danny snapped. When they also left, Cass and Danny were the only ones left in the manor. She was staring at him silently, dark eyes trained on him. “What is it?” He asked her.
“… you know something.”
Danny smiled. “Know what?”
She stared at him, then shook her head softly. Danny brought her closer to himself, reaching out to hold her gently, rubbing his cheek against her hair.
“We would never hurt you or your siblings. You know that, right?” He asked, and she nodded slowly.
Yes. They would not hurt her or her siblings. It was only Bruce who would be left behind, still stuck in his old ways of mourning, unable to see the hopeful future or the love between them and the Phantoms.
For a moment, Cassandra just mourned for the way things used to be. Then Danny swept her away and everything was soon forgotten.
(Or what if… the Phantoms felt like Bruce wasn’t a great parent and decided to “save” the others on their own.)

Finally Getting Help (prt. 10)
Mastterpost
A/N: Thank you all for the well wishes about my dog. Unfortunately he didn't make it and pass away Tuesday morning in the vet's office. I was able to get some writing done but I don't have the energy to edit. Let me know if you find any mistakes.
-----
Jason: hey, thanks for the gun and the tech, it's really cool.
Danny: new phone who dis 😝
Jason: I hope you haven't given too many people guns in the last couple days.
Danny: no I haven't, thanks for texting me Jason. Have you got a chance to try the gun?
Jason: not on anything moving, I've been doing some target practice to get a feel for it though. Looking forward to when I can test it on Vlad.
Danny: aww are you going to avenge my honor 🥺
Jason: if you want me too. I'll bring you his head if you want me too.
Danny: 🥰 you're so sweet. I wouldn't say no to seeing him suffer for what he's done but don't get yourself in any trouble okay? And if you do call me right away. I'll come rescue you 😘
Jason: hey I'm the one offering to protect you!
Danny: we can protect each other. And fight each other, can you come spar again soon?
Jason: I wouldn't call that sparring, more like brawling.
Danny: eh potato potato, do you want to come fight me again?
Jason: if demon brat won't kill me for it, sure. Can I take you out for dinner afterwards? I have some questions
Danny: It's a date! Just tell me when
Jason: Day after tomorrow? I have some work to take care of first.
Danny: Sounds great! And it is a date right? You don't mind that I'm going to have kids?
Jason: the kids aren't a deal breaker I promise but let's not jump the gun okay? We're going to be family through B so we don't want this to blow up in our faces. Let's hang out, take it slow, see how it goes. You need to be careful about who you let into your life now anyway, you can't just let anyone around you and the babies.
Danny: don't tell me what to do 😠 but you're right. I'm bad about rushing into things. I'm still looking forward to it.
Danny: By the way Jazz uploaded the power point she made about Liminals and Ghosts to the bat’s server thing. You have access to that right? You should read that before we meet and I can fill in the gaps.
Jason: Sounds good, I’ll have a look at it and I’m looking forward to it too. I'll be there at 5 so we can spar before dinner. Don't forget to warn B and your guard dog.
Danny: Damian is a good kid. I'll let them know.
Danny stared at his new phone Tim had given him with apprehension. The chat with Jason had gone very well, and Danny was glad he reached out but there were other people he really needed to reach out to and he was… frankly scared. Sam and Tucker were his best friends and had always been there for him but they both had tempers. Would they be mad that he hadn’t told them he was pregnant? Would they be upset he had left Amity and wasn’t planning on coming back?
He needed to reach out though, the longer he waited the harder it would be to talk to them, and things wouldn’t stay calm as they were now. Vlad would be back to cause trouble again and even though the JLD had control of the portal but he was sure his rogues would find their way through eventually. Vlad had his own portal anyway, and Danny wouldn’t put it past him to open it just to annoy Danny. Maybe try and weaken him a little so Vlad could swoop in and pick him off.
Today was quiet, he needed to take this chance. He sighed and got up off the edge of his bed where he was sitting and ducked out of his room. He didn’t want to do this alone, so he wasn’t surprised when he found himself in the library where Jazz was studying.
He sat down across from her and reached across, laying his hand, palm up on the table. Without looking up from her book she reached over and placed her hand in his, giving it a gentle squeeze. He smiled at her and took a deep breath before putting on his earbuds and sending a message in the group chat.
Danny: When you guys are ready can we call?
Jazz phone went off too and she checked it, smiled at Danny, and then silenced the chat and went back to her book. She didn’t need to be part of this call but at least she knew what he was doing.
Sam: Yes, let me just grab Tuck. He’s playing Doomed.
Danny took a deep breath and put down his phone while he waited for them to call and tried not to panic.
When the phone buzzed he jumped and reached for it, joining the call quickly.
“Hey guys,” He said, awkwardly, waving with the hand that wasn’t holding the phone.
“Hey yourself! What the heck happened Danny?! Basically the whole town joined in in chasing Vlad when we found out what he did but why did we have to find out on tv?! Why didn’t you tell us?!” Sam said, but at least she just seemed stressed, not actually angry.
“I’m sorry guys,” Danny said, wincing a little when he heard Tucker sniffling a little. “I hadn’t told anyone yet. I hadn’t even fully accepted it yet honestly.
“I still wasn’t ready to talk about it, bur Cass is really good at reading people's body language and I guess she clocked that I was carrying them by how I kept unconsciously touching my stomach. When she asked me about it it sorta broke through my denial and I broke down which started the ball rolling on… all this,” He said with a vague gesture.”
“All this is right! The justice league really brought the hammer down on Amity. They’re dismantling the GIW and really pissed at the government and basically all the adults in the town for letting this happen. And they arrested your parents!” Sam said sounding almost excited.
“Sam! That was really insensitive! They’re still his parents, what if he didn’t know!?” Tucker broke in furiously.
“No it’s alright I knew, Jazz told me. She’s here with me,” He said squeezing her hand though she wasn’t paying attention to the call.
“Okaaay so where is Here?” Tucker asked warily.
“Ya are you safe? We haven’t seen you since all this went down! Are you really with Bruce Wayne?” Sam asked sounding wary.
“Yes I am. He’s got a foster license and since his kids were the one that found out what was going on it just made sense that I’d stay here.”
“And he’s Not another Fruitloop?” Sam asked warily. “You need to be careful with these rich people you know? They’re basically all crazy!”
“Sam you’re rich,” Danny pointed out, amused.
“Ya, and? My point stands!”
“Fair enough,” Danny laughed. “But no, I did some snooping the first night I was here and it seems okay. And since he’s got close ties to the Justice League he was able to get the help we really needed, and he says he might be able to help me meet Martian Manhunter!”
“Don’t fanboy out too bad,” Tucker teased him.
“Oh ya? And what if I helped you meet Tim Drake? Would you not be just as bad,” Danny accused Tucker.
“Touche,” Tucker said. “Could you though?”
“I mean maybe? He’s my foster brother now and he seems cool. You two are my best friends, if I’m going to stay I’m sure you could come visit me and meet all of them.”
“Are you really going to stay there though? I mean once the GIW and everything is cleared out you could stay with either of us. I know my parents aren’t your biggest fans but I know they’d let you stay,” Sam said sounding worried.
“And I know my family doesn't have a ton of money but they adore you, we’d make it work,” Tucker added looking worried.
“No, guys I really appreciate the offer but… I don’t want to come back to Amity. The Justice League said they shut down the portal and I really need a fresh start I think. I think I’d rather stay here. Jazz too, she’s gonna study at Gotham U and intern at Arkham,” He said. She looked up at the mention of her name and gave him a small smile.
“I’m sorry, you guys are my best friends and I’ll miss you, but there are too many… memories in Amity you know?”
“Ya I get that,” Sam said, looking sad and distant.
“We can still call, and play Doomed together, and visit on breaks!” Tucker said, his chipper tone sounding a little forced. “We’re going to say friends!” He insisted and Danny smiled.
“Of course we will Tuck,” He promised. They might grow apart with the distance between them, but he hoped not, they really were his best friends.
“Ya, my parents will probably be thrilled about this development and want me to come over all the time. They love the Waynes,” Sam chuckled though her optimism also seemed a bit forced. Of course she was more of a pessimist, she probably thought they would drift apart, but knew Danny needed them right now.
“Soo what’s been going on in Amity since I left?” Danny asked, letting them ramble about the drama, the rumours, and the bullshit that was the bullies and everyone in the school sudden;y pretending they cared about Danny soooo much.
After they finished telling him about it there were a few beats of silence and Danny was just about to suggest they hang up when Sam spoke up again.
“So, what actually happened with Vlad? If you don’t want to talk about it that’s okay but…”
“No, it’s okay. It’s not what- what you’d think. It’s superhero bullshit really. When I wouldn’t be his son he decided to try and clone me, you met Dani with an I right? She was one of the clones. But he didn’t know I was trans, and my DNA got all fucked up in the portal so none of the clones were stable. I have no idea how many he tried to make that died. But when I found out it was because he had lied to Dani and told her he needed me to stabilize her clone brothers. It was a batch of ten.
“But he lied, he didn’t actually care about stabilizing them, he was going to let them all die. I was only able to save the two that were most stable and only by taking their cores into myself. So I’m not normal pregnant, I’m ghost pregnant.
What is my life huh?” He finished, chuckling awkwardly.
“Oh fuck,” Sam said her shoulders slumping a little even as her expression went through a range of emotions. “That’s better in a way but still a whole different type of fucked up! I hope they catch him soon.”
“I hope so too but I don’t think they will,” Danny said with a shrug. “Not before he tries something else. I’m not lucky enough to be able to just move past this,” He said with a bitter little laugh.
“Well, we can still hope. And even if he does cause trouble you have more allies now! You’ve been able to handle everything else he’s thrown at you basically on your own, with the Justice League behind you I know there’s nothing you can’t handle. I mean, Vlad is kind of pathetic anyway,” Tucker encouraged making Danny smile.
“Ya, you’re right, I’m sure it’ll be fine. Thanks guys,” he said fondly.
“Of course dude! We’re here for you!” Tucker said.
“It’s really good to hear from you too. Don’t be a stranger okay?” Sam said, a bit worried.
“Of course not, I’ll keep you posted I promise.” Danny assured before they said their goodbyes and he hung up.
He put down his phone and leaned back with a sigh, closing his eyes for a moment. Next to him Jazz chuckled and there was a soft snap as she closed her book.
“You did well little brother,” She told him, getting up from her seat she moved behind him and rested her hands on his shoulders.
“How do you know? You weren’t listening.”
“No, but you reached out to your friends and had an honest conversation which isn’t easy. You did well,” She reiterated, squeezing his shoulders.
“Well thanks Jazz. I hope that they’re right that we won’t lose touch, and I’ll be able to handle whatever Vlad does,” He grumbled.
“I’m sure we will,” Jazz promised. “And either way there’s no point in worrying about it now. Has Jason texted you yet?” She asked, giving Danny the excuse he needed to change the subject and launch into his more petty worries about the upcoming date as she sat back down to listen.

I’d say the thing about some characters lending themselves better to some stories than others actually can apply to the Batfam as well, and is a sign of how well-developed they actually are. I know I’ve ranted in the past about the tendency to try and fit the Batkids into niches like the smart one and the angry one and all of that, but in terms of story TYPES, I think they do have certain niche-like feels that mean some of them are better suited to certain GENRES of story than others.
For instance....I didn’t love Grayson, but that was more due to the overshadowing circumstances and the fact that I just think King and his writing suck. A lot. But the basic premise was not at all out of Dick’s wheelhouse. He IS well predisposed to kinda globe-trotting, spy versus spy, switching disguises like they’re outfits, making the most out of his ability to make friends everywhere he goes and turn enemies into allies.....those types of stories. Not saying these should be his only stories, by any means, or that he can’t center in all kinds of other types of stories, but I’m just saying, these kinds of stories do have more of a Dick Grayson feel than they do various other Batkids.
Similarly, Jason is better suited to gothic horror types of stories than the others, just in general. His history with the Lazarus Pit, his general disposition, his THEMES, like....they speak to the same kind of aims and tones that gothic horror both births from and embodies.
This might just be me, but to me, Tim is best suited to kinda oddball, off the wall sorta stories, and that’s part of why I’m so meh on him just being shelved into the uber-genius, mini-Bruce, heir to the best detective mantle kinda thing. I’ve spoken before about how much I miss 90s Tim, but to me, Tim was always at his best, and at his best-defined, most feeling like uniquely HIM, when he was playing the underdog. When he was just this well-intentioned kid who plunged into this world that was so much larger than viewing it through his camera lens had prepared him for, but he had spunk and determination and he wasn’t about to back down or let anyone think he was in over his head so he was gonna make it through whatever the superhero life threw at him even if flying by the seat of his pants the whole way. So to that end, I mean, I think Tim is at his best when just dealing with totally WTF kinds of stories. The cross-dimensional capers, the time travel mishaps, the ‘great, I was abducted by aliens on my lunch break and now apparently I have to save planet FUBAR with nothing but my pocket knife and scathing dry wit.’
I would fucking kill for Cass at the center of noir type stories where its like, idk, the Maltese Falcon and she’s the jaded but still optimistic-at-her-core PI when trouble walks into her derelict office wrapped up in an eggplant shawl and the name Stephanie. Maybe its just that I don’t think there’s enough focus on the fact that Cass is SMART and she’s as much a detective as any of the family, does plenty of investigative work and if she’s heir to the cowl she’d be just as good at the mystery side of things as Bruce is, but just......noir stories just FEEL like dappled shadows and eerie shades of blue and black with hints of moonlight spilling through slatted blinds and all of that just screams Cass to me, faint notes of jazz in the background, a wry smile on her lips as she plays her informant like a fiddle when chasing down clues.
Duke is another globe-trotter in feel to me, like his backstory and his family and his stories with the Outsiders, like, I really want to see Duke on more superhero teams than just the Outsiders now that that’s over, because he’s better suited to stories not confined just to Gotham, I think? Like, Duke fits the conspiracy theory chasing niche to me, like, his character really comes to life when pursuing leads all across the world, digging into his past, his family’s past, seeing how it all connects to various mysteries of the DC Earth that are generations old but still affect the present....like I don’t know how many people have read Planetary, but that to me is a PERFECT fit for Duke, and I would love to see him with his own Planetary style team or even just part of one.
Damian is best suited to coming of age stories, which sounds vague, but the thing is, it really is its own genre. So much of Damian’s character, the best parts I think, are about Damian FINDING himself, DEFINING himself......he more than any of the others, debuted so clearly defined by his origins, his parents, who he was CREATED to be.....and so he more than anyone else is perfectly poised to star in stories that are all about him breaking away from that mold, from parental expectations or preplanned destinies, or even just searching for things to define him on his own terms rather than through the eyes of others. Stories that are about choosing your own path, making a self-realization or having an epiphany about who you truly are or what you want to do with your life....that to me, is Damian’s best niche. Again, doesn’t mean that other characters can’t be great in these kinds of stories as well, just that if I’m pairing one character to one genre they lean into best, this is what’s that for Damian, IMO.
Steph is a bit of an oddball for me, and I don’t quite know how to describe this, but she’s best suited IMO to those kinds of stories that like......there’s not really a specific NAME for this type, but you know them when you see them. The best comparison I can think to make is like.....the kinds of stories Harley Quinn stars in? To be clear, I’m not drawing parallels between Steph or Harley or saying they’re the same kind of character at ALL, I’m just saying like.....Harley is another character who overall is very hard to pin down in specific concrete terms, but nevertheless is centered in various stories and adaptations that are nevertheless very clearly HER.....and that’s the kind of thing I picture for Steph. She fits that niche that isn’t really a niche for anyone BUT her, because nobody else can summon that type of feel for it......the kind of story that you can’t switch anybody else in for her because the story only works with her specific kinda....energy. Bleh. I really wish I could describe it better, like its very clear in my brain, but its a story that’s more of a kind of FEEL than it is a specific description? If that makes sense like at all? LOLOL. Whatevs.
And Babs, like, I would love love love to see her centered in a proper cyberthriller. I mean, they’ve done stories kinda like that with her as Oracle, but not to the extent I’m thinking. I mean just full on cyberpunk dialed up to 11. Give me Babs enlisted by the JLA because Brainiac is loose in the internet and she has to go into cyberspace utilizing different avatars of herself and calling in allies as needed as she relentlessly hunts a villain through landscapes of data she maps and molds and turns into traps. Babs hyper-fixating on her task, her hunt, to the degree that she has to be reminded to pull herself out at times and take care of her physical needs, has people grounding her so she doesn’t get lost in cyberspace and the lure of it all, this place that’s her domain and where she shines the brightest. And so it balances that razor edge that makes for the best cyberthrillers IMO. The ones where all the possibilities of the future as embodied in technology and cyberspace are balanced with the necessity of remaining human, of being human and with roots and history embedded outside of it, in the real world. And with there being a clear juxtaposition between the two even as the protagonist goes back and forth between the two extremes of their existence, the physical and the ephemeral.
Anyway. Like I said, you can mix and match and its not like Dick can’t star in gothic horror and Jason can’t do off-the-wall dimensional hijinks or noir detective stories and Tim and Cass can’t do coming of age, etc.....its just in terms of what I was talking about, how some characters lend themselves MORE easily to certain kinds of stories than others.....this is how I perceive the various Batkids.

I'm not someone who watches Miraculous Ladybug but why are there so many Marinette/Damian fics? I keep seeing them when I scroll through Timsteph fics.
OH HELL. You know, I’ve been wondering what Batman-only fans must think of the flood of Marinette/Damian. It’s uh. Yeah it doesn’t make a ton of sense.
See, here’s the thing; there’s a LARGE section of the ML fandom devoted to salt, specifically salt towards one particular episode; Chameleon, where Marinette - the main character - has her seat reassigned during class so she has to sit at the back away from all her friends in order to make way for a returning student who *claims* she has a hearing disability so she can sit in the front row. However, said character, Lila, is a notorious liar, as Marinette, Adrien (the deuteragonist and Marinette’s main Love Interest), and the audience know. Adrien actually offers to go sit in the back instead, but Marinette and Lila both shut down that idea and Marinette stews in the back of the classroom for awhile.
Then at lunch, Lila tells more stories of her fabulous life and gets people to bring a tray of food for her since she claims she hurt her wrist. Marinette tries to tell two of her other friends that Lila’s a liar and a fake, but can’t actually produce any evidence to prove it, so she throws a napkin at Lila to try to prove she’s faking her injury... which Lila then catches, but pretends to have hurt her arm. Her other classmates scold her for throwing a napkin at Lila and causing her to hurt herself, Marinette storms off, and Lila corners her in the bathroom and threatens to turn all her friends against her and stop her from ever getting close to Adrien unless she sides with her.
Adrien actually catches up with Lila soon after that and asks her to please stop lying, that she doesn’t need to do that and she’ll only turn their classmates against her, and offers to help listen if something’s bothering her. He doesn’t  realize that Lila’s targeting Marinette, or that she’s actively malicious in general, just thinking that she’s lonely and is lying to try and make friends.
Lila brushes him off and purposely seeks out an akuma to get herself akumatized, turns into a villain, tries to defeat Ladybug and Chat Noir, the usual jazz.
Anyway, at the end after defeating her, when Marinette’s about to try to publicly call Lila out for switching up which ear Lila has Tinnitus in, Adrien asks her whether she thinks exposing her will actually help anything, and that humiliating her will make her hurt more, and making a bad guy suffer has never turned them into a good guy.
So Marinette decides not to do that, and when they go back to the classroom, Adrien goes to the back and sits next to Marinette of his own accord. Then the whole class decides that they liked the old seating arrangement better, and everyone goes back to their old seats and Lila’s left sitting by herself in the back (she’d claimed her tinnitus magically got better, so she didn’t need to sit in the front anymore.)
Salters took that episode and RAN with it, writing fic after fic of epic revenge fantasies that WAY ramped up how bad any of the characters could POSSIBLY be, making the class force her to do commission after commission for them for free, never showing her proper appreciation for all she does for them, and when Lila shows up and starts manipulating people, have the class scorn and shun Marinette for being an awful person, rip up her stuff, and beat her up, often with her (former) best friend Alya leading the charge, and Adrien just standing and the background telling her to take it.
A lot of people writing these hate Adrien’s guts, having decided that he’s a sexual harasser/assaulter/potential rapist, and wanted to ship her with other people - her second canon Love Interest, Luka, and the scrapped first draft for her partner from the original concept for ML, Felix, at the top of the list.
Felix, notably, was generally perceived as being cold, aloof, and no-nonsense, but with a heart of gold. So he was sometimes used to inflict punishment on everyone the salters hated, plus Marinette could be one of the few people to slip past his cold exterior and become someone he cared for.
Then Felix was gonna be made canon. And someone new was needed to fill that role.
One tumblr user wrote a story where the polite, yet aloof, young man Damien hears a girl screaming in trouble, sees Marinette in Gotham, and instantly falls in love with his Angel, and she ends up staying in Gotham instead of with all the horrible, horrible Everyone Else In Her Life.
Yeah, Damian wasn’t remotely in-character in those early fics at least. His name was often misspelled with an “e”, actually.
But anyway. A few advantages to this; Damian can be made to be super sweet and a perfect gentleman around Marinette, who can instantly see all the worth that everyone else in her life threw away, and as a bonus, can reap revenge on her classmates who tried to beat her up/destroy her notebook/poison her/whatever the fic writer came up with, since Damian might feasibly be willing to inflict cruel punishment on them (not that being in-character has ever been valued much in these fics), plus Marinette gets the entire Batfamily to dote on her and be her new family and be totally removed from everyone the author doesn’t like, which tends to be most of the ML cast. Except for her canonical bully who made her life miserable both before and during the actual series, Chloe; she’ll often become Marinette’s new best friend. Though I don’t think that’s as common with the crossover.
It mixed up the Chameleon salt formula, which I think even the salters had gotten a little tired of (though it’s still going strong), and gave possibilities for a lot more different character interactions, and just generally breathed new life into it.
At this point it’s kinda become its own thing, and some people are actually stepping away form the salt and bashing that birthed the pairing and just shoving her in with the Batfamily generally, because... honestly I suspect there’s some wish fulfillment going on there. And people seem to have a slightly better idea of how the Batfamily works now? Maybe? From what I’ve seen, I think people may have at least STARTED doing some research.
Anyway, yeah. They’re basically a separate fandom at this point, pretty much just devoted to like. That one episode of ML, the first episode of season 3, that released over a year and a half ago.
But uh. Yeaaaah, don’t judge ML by what you see in those crossover fics. Their relation with canon, especially canon characterization, is tenuous at best.
As you might be able to tell, I don’t ship it. I also hate the OOCness, but actually like the potential for the crossover, and wrote my own ML X Batman crossover fic, “We’re The Same”, that was sticking with the canon ships, characterization, and overall just dropping the two franchises into each other in a more canon compliant way to see what would shake out. Especially since dammit, ADRIEN AND DAMIAN WOULD BE FRIENDS.

Continued;
Damian's hands curls around the mug as he murmurs, "I miss Cujo."
"His dog," Danielle explains to Alfred even as she whips out her cellphone and texts someone.
"You have a dog?" Alfred prompts the morose boy.
"Ghost dog," Damian mumbles, "was just a puppy when he was euthanized for no good reason."
"Dear lord, the poor pup."
A portal opens and out pops...
"Cujo!" Damian calls and the puppy jumps into his arms, though he doesn't drop the scroll in his mouth.
Danielle reaches over, takes the scroll, and unrolls it.
"From the court of--oh god, Dad had Paige write this?" Danielle groans, eyes skipping over all the official nonsense, "From the Court of blah blah blah--by his blah blah blah--oh, here. I am so sorry I didn't even think about Cujo. Damian, if Mister Wayne says to send him home then listen to him, okay. Blah blah blah...Huh."
Danielle blinks, rereading the words and hoping they suddenly make more and less sense than they did, "So, apparently, Clockwork says this Mortal World--" she gestures around her, "isn't the Mortal World Dad, Mom, and me come from?"
"Pardon?" Alfred's eyebrow rises.
"Yeah, so we've been keeping Dami in the Zone for no reason? Nobody none of his biological family exists in our dimension--" she reads further, "Dad's asking you to think about going to school, public or private, they don't care either way. Just human school, like I do. Since it's safe and would be better for you than hanging with a buncha ghosts all day."
"Has his highness never been in the human world since your family took him in?" Alfred questions.
"Oh, yes, several hours here and there," Damian nods, petting Cujo, "even whole days. But we thought Grandfather was out there and Dani needs frequent exposure to the ectoplasm of the Zone or she becomes ill without her medicine."
"I took a dose before bed," Danielle assures Alfred, still reading, "Okay, so Mom's still in labor, no trouble so far. Doctor thinks either this morning or tonight. Then they'll leave us here for another day, just in case."
"Are complications expected?" Alfred asks.
"No one knows," Danielle explains, "the baby's the first known natural ghost human hybrid. I'm basically an aged up test tube baby. The guy that made me and Dad both became half-ghost due to lab accidents. Dad shoulda been fried like a fry."
"Good lord," Alfred nods his understanding, looking rather grim at the thought of a human chip.
"So far, Mom's been okay," Danielle continues, "everything's been normal. But the baby is a few weeks early. It might be because it's half-ghost but," she shrugs, "it could just be early."
"Do you not know the sex?" Alfred asks.
"No. Mama wants it to be a surprise, Baba agreed," Damian says, far happier now that he has Cujo with him.
Danielle's still reading, "Geeze, Paige--"
"Paige is the Royal Scribe," Damian explains to the adult, "it is her job to make all official correspondence sound Official."
"And she's good at her job," Danielle agrees, "but very long-winded. Dad must've dictated and she made his words all Official. Blah blah blah, we're out of school for the next two weeks...blah blah blah. Oh, grandparents are on their way back. Nice. Blah blah blah, we can call home if we get homesick. Blah blah blah, Aunt Jazz says call her if we need to. All the love Mom and Dad have for us, they miss us, then blah blah blah, more Royal titles and Dad's official signature."
She rolls up the scroll.
Damian yawns, his mug empty now and both Danielle and Alfred smile.
"Perhaps it is time to retire, your highness," Alfred suggests, picking up the empty mugs and waiting patiently while Danielle quickly drains hers.
Damian nods sleepily, asking, "May I bring--?"
"Yes, you may," Alfred smiles softly and shepherds the children and puppy back to bed, "I will inform Master Bruce about Cujo in the morning. He will not force you to send the pup back, I assure you."
He tucks the children in, watching as Cujo curls up on Damian's pillow above his head and eyes the door warily.
Then he hurries down to the Cave as his other charges begin to trickle back in, patrols done for the night and without injuries.
He informs Bruce of their newest guest and the information he has been given about the Royal Family before firmly stating the dog will be staying with Damian.
Nobody has any objections to this and they are, in fact, excited to meet another ghost.
Even if it is just a dog.
Everyone heads to bed, through Bruce makes a detour to peek in on Damian.
Cujo lifts his head and whuffs questioningly.
Bruce smiles, remembering Ace. Ace who slept with Dick in those first dark and dreadful days more than anywhere else.
He goes to bed still smiling.
In the morning, the Waynes and associates are properly introduced to Cujo and his neat...trick.
"Holy shit," Jason exclaims as everyone stares at the enormous, Clifford sized, mastiff type dog that had previously been a small adorable puppy.
"Cujo's Damian's bodyguard," Danielle grins.
"No kidding!" Dick approaches the dog carefully.
Cujo stops snarling, sniffs him, then covers him in ectoplasmic saliva.
Then the dog shrinks back down to puppy form.
"You will want to take a shower and change, quickly, Richard," Damian warns, "ectoplasm like that is corrosive to those not used to it; rashes and such."
"Oh, okay, thanks," Dick jogs off.
"Baba forgot to send Cujo with us," Damian explains to the remaining audience, "an oversight he apologized for. As long as you mean me no harm, Cujo will not harm you. Yes, Timothy?"
"Just how much dog is he still?"
"He does not require food nor does he produce waste, however he requires walkies and loves to be groomed with a horse hair brush," Damian smiles, petting his dog.
Cujo nudges into his hand.
"He was supposed to be a security guard dog, when he was alive," Danielle adds, "but the company went cyber and put all the dogs down, even the puppies. Dad first met him because he was looking for his squeaky toy. Then he stuck with Dad until he bonded with Damian."
TBC...
mind if I give a dp×dc prompt?
Constantine means to summon the ghost king but instead summons the ghost prince who is currently has a fork hanging out of his mouth.
Damian just wanted to eat lunch with his adoptive father king phantom, in peace.
I just want to put that I love this prompt, and will enjoy writing this so much!
Now, onto the big question: How did Damian become the Ghost Prince of the Infinite Realms in the first place?
And of course, the answer is obviously because of Ra's al Ghul. I could think of it as two ways.
One would be Ra's summoned the Ghost King and offered his son in exchange for immortality. Danny not only denies him, but still takes Damian with him because he's obviously better off anywhere but there.
The other way would be Damian would be forced to watch the summoning as Ra's possibly wanted to show him his ascent into being immortal. Though, when summoning Danny, he just looked around, saw Damian, grabbed him, and disappeared back through the summoning circle while flipping off Ra's al Ghul.
Now, what's the Ghost King supposed to do with the human kid he just kidnapped without a second thought?
Sure, the kids previous living conditions probably wasn't the best. I mean, how would it when the man had an entire pit of rotten ectoplasm? But Danny was pretty much still a kid himself. And he had his kingly duties on top of that. But that doesn't mean he was just going to dump the kid somewhere else and hope for the best.
So what does Danny do? He goes to his sister.
Jazz is conflicted about the whole ordeal. On one hand, it was good for Danny to rescue the child from the possible dangerous situation. On the other, they had a whole child that they didn't know what to do with.
Damian was confused about the entire situation. He was there with his grandfather (whether by force or his own accord depending how he got there) to watch him summon the King of the Dead in order to establish himself as one of the higher beings in this world to rule it. Instead, the King, who turned out to be no more older than him, denied his grandfather upright before grabbing him and vanishing back into the same portal he was summoned from.
Now, he was sitting between the Ghost King and an older teen. Sister, maybe? Either way, he was unsure as to what to do now. He had no idea how far he was away from the hideout of the League. And if the King was as powerful as legends told, he doubted he would make it far if he were to run anywhere before he was caught.
So, Damian believed that the best thing to do in this situation was to try and get onto the Ghost King's good side until he could find what would be the next step. So his next words shocked both him and the woman he was talking with.
"I want to stay with you, Great King of the Dead."
So! Damian decided that staying with the Ghost King, or Phantom, as he preferred to be called at most, would be best. Of course, his request threw the king off guard along with the girl. But it was all he had up his sleeve and he was going to use it.
And now that that was settled, a lot of things followed suite:
Danny, with the gain of a new charge, called in Sam and Tucker for a full on meeting on what to do with the kid along with Jazz.
Of course with Danny officially kidnapping him, he was under Danny's care. The Ghost King's care. That was basically signing some sort of second death wish.
With all of his friends and family being alive, they decide the best place for him to leave was in his castle in the Ghost Zone. There was plenty of room there! And he was sure that it would be safe. Maybe. Hopefully. You know what? He'll probably have to do a quick check before he officially brought to the castle.
That being said, he would also have to warn those who stayed in the castle the arrival of his....guest? Kidnappee? Ward? A kid that he took from the environment that was not safe for him!
Surprisingly, the ghosts were excited about the development. So excited, in fact, that when he returned to the castle with Damian in turn, there was already talk about the Ghost King's heir was already going around of all the realms. That was fine though. If the word spread around fast enough, hopefully that that meant he would be easily protected against any possible attacks.
Danny introduces to some of those he can. A few members of his Rogue Gallery who he gotten closer to over the time, Ellie ("It's big sister Ellie, now! I can't believe you just kidnapped a kid like that!")
Others were introduced to him as well. Especially Frost Bite and Fright Knight. Both of which were interested in meeting his sudden charge. (But with the way he saw the kid eyeing Fright Knight's sword, it's best their unsupervised interactions were kept to a minimum.)
And seeing that he was a kid himself, it was going to be weird raising one that's probably not much younger than him. Clockwork sure did get a kick out of it though.
Here is a list of possible outcomes that come from Danny and his friends & family raising Damian:
He doesn't grow up to be as stiff and cold as before. With Danny and the others around (especially Jazz's "Aunt Jazz, Damian," Aunt Jazz's mandatory sessions about his life with the League of Assassin's) his formality is more royalty like instead of an assassin waiting to strike. Though, there is a bit still there.
Training. As being accepted as the ward and possible heir of the Ghost King, it meant that that Damian would have protection and would have to learn the ways of the Infinite Realms. Both its politics and ways of combat. That was fine, Damian was sure he could handle it. He was raised by the League of Assassins after all. But he was wrong...so wrong. His first training session showed how he fared as a human against a ghost. But he wasn't deterred and continued fighting. (It was alright in the end, because he got his own ghost sword. Of course, it didn't send the opponent into a realm of neverending nightmares, but it was still good. Danny was sure he heard Damian cackle madly when the sword was presented to him.)
Bonding time with Danny and his friends. He would most likely learn about Danny about how he became Phantom and King of the Infinite Realms, as well as a bit of his friends and family that was with him the entire time.
Even if he is Danny's ward, that doesn't mean that he keeps him in the Infinite Realms the entire time. He often took Damian out to various spots that he deemed alright for some bonding between the two to get to know each other a bit more personally.
He would even allow Damian some time alone in the human realm if he wanted it. Of course, he would only leave him for about an hour or two before picking him up again. During that time he would simply work on some kingly duties he couldn't do with Damian around.
Overtime, Damian would become more liminal than most due to all the exposure in the realms. Of course he wasn't a full on ghost, but the most he could do was float, fly and even turn invisible. But even that would take a lot out of him for too long.
After a while, Damian would be referred as "Little Prince" or "Prince of the Infinite Realms".
All. The. Animals. With all of the ecto-based animals along with the blob ghosts, he would be in absolute heaven.
Now, I want to bring something else up to this prompt: How would Bruce react?
Depending on how Danny kidnapped adopted Damian, there are two ways that Bruce could find out.
Bruce gains word from Talia after a League of Assassins member finds her and tells her of the passing of Ra's al Ghul and the kidnapping of his grandson. Both of which happened by the hands of the Ghost King.
Words gets out that Ra's failed to get the Ghost King under his control to grant his wish of immortality and that the Ghost King took his grandson as well.
Either way would be how Bruce managed to have a biological son that he was unaware of. Which could also lead to him digging into anything he could find about the King of the Infinite Realms, even seeking JL Dark for any information. Of course, their information isn't up to date and he think that Damian has been kidnapped by the cruel Ghost King Pariah Dark instead of Danny Phantom: The King who can't say no to a kid with a sword bigger than his own body.
So yes. This whole ordeal would just be chaos from beginning to end.

Coffee burns
Prompt(s): lmao this had prompts but i forgot about them and this fic went in another direction it turned into i love the gang lets write them
G/T mean girls
The co-sized mall- which wasn't very co-sized- was one of my least favorite places to be.  Each individual store had tiny areas with a small cashier and tiny workers and shit, but the mall itself had no form of tiny transportation or tiny recreation areas, like food courts or those random couches you just find to take a break.
Northshore, like its high school, did not have many tinies. I could name everyone and their moms who live in the tiny neighborhood.
It's no secret that I hate being in primarily giant places. I mean, I feel like I'd hate high school anyway, but anywhere other than Damian's house just makes me all around nervous.
Now put me in a crowded mall?
Yeah, I'll pass.
Except I didn't.
Regina had somehow convinced the whole group that a trip to the mall would be fun. I didn't believe her, but the whole group was going so why not.
We were currently at the food court. Regina was on Gretchen's shoulder eating a fry she stole from Karen. Probably the funniest visual of Regina I have to date. She broke off part of fry yet it was still half the size of her.
Aaron was in his own conversation with Cady who had her elbows propped up on the table and was holding Aaron in her hands.
Food court tables are nasty. You won't catch me (or any tiny with common sense) sitting on them.
I was on Damian's shoulder only partly paying attention to his conversation with Karen. Too busy making faces at Regina to contribute to whatever was going on.
Yeah, sometimes I can see why Aaron calls us 'literally children'. But hey, we aren't hurting anyone.
"You sure you don't want food, Janis?" Damian asks.
I look away from Regina. "Yeah, I'm not hungry."
Like every time I get nervous, the pit in my stomach prevents any appetite. I don't know why I was nervous. I think just being around so many people puts me in a constant state of anxiety, whether they're giants or not.
"Jesus, Regina!" I watch as she finishes the fucking french fry.
"We don't talk about it." She says. "I already regret that decision."
I lean closer to Damain's neck with a smile. It's nice to have a group where, no matter where we hang out or at what time, it's always fun.
"Guys," Aaron speaks up, grabbing all out attention. "Who's right. Me or Cady. We're sayin-"
"Cady." Damian and I say in unison.
"You don't even know what we're talking about yet!"
"Yeah, but it's Cady." Regina says.
Aaron huffs. "Crazy."
Cady gives a good-natured chuckle and brings Aaron to sit on his shoulder. "Everyone done eating?"
There a chorus of yeahs from around the table.
"Can we stop at forever 21?" Gretchen asks. "I know its not a store for all of us but there's a shirt I wanna get while it's still on sale but Regina needs to see it first."
Damian shrugs lightly but it's enough to make me tip a bit. I ignore Regina laughing at me.
"Doesn't matter to me." Karen says.
Cady waves her hand. "I don't mind."
"Cady's my ride. I gotta go where she goes." Aaron says.
I shrug. "Sure."
There aren't many tinies in high school, but they're also is a smaller group of giants. All people of all ages go to the mall, and most tinies avoided it like the plague. So the ratio of tinies to giants is even greater here.
In high school, you only get in trouble for fucking with tinies when you're caught. In the mall, you only get in trouble for shoplifting or doing coke in the back of the JC Pennies while on a lunch break from your job at Spencer's.
True story.
The kid moved on to be a teacher in the next town over. He's got kids now.
The point I'm trying to get to is, even if the mall did accommodate more for tinies, I don't think we'd start going. It's dangerous.
Damian wasn't wearing his jacket and I had nowhere to hide. I think that stressed me more than anything.
Whatever it's fine.
Damian was wearing a sweatshirt. I was sitting pushed against his neck with the hood pulled over my legs for warmth. Its tits cold in the middle of December and the mall is fucking air-conditioned. Why? Who knows. Not me.
We walk past a trio of women I can only describe as "karens". Not our Karen. The shoulder haircut, let me speak to your manager type vibe. The gross karens.
One of them eyes me and I can't help but pull Damian's hoodie further over me, the knot in my stomach is back.
"Young man?" She asks as Damian walks past.
For fucks sakes.
Damian turns to her, and I don't even need to look at his face to know he's unamused. We both kinda know what's coming.
"Are you aware of the tiny on your shoulder?"
"Yes. I am." He states flatly.
"Is it bothering you?"
It? Well, that's better than space dyke I guess.
"No, she's my friend." Damian states. "Why, is there an issue here?"
The rest of our friends have walked away without noticing Damian got stopped.
"How can you stand with tinies?" One of the ladies speaks up.
Wow. Rude.
I leaned against Damian's neck more, pulling the hoodie over me fully like a blanket. I wasn't offended, just bored. These ladies can go on for hours about how 'tinies don't deserve rights'.
"How can you stand against them?" Damian retaliates. He begins walking away, ignoring the offended gawks he received.
I laugh a little, looking over his shoulder.
"You showed them." I cheer weakly.
"Sure did." Damian nods catching up to the group. They were still at the entrance to forever 21.
"Where did you guys go?" Cady asked. "We turn around and you're just gone!"
"Got stopped by annoying old ladies," Damian says with a dramatic eye roll.
"Don't fuck with Damian and his tiny!" I point to myself with a grin. "They called me an it."
"That's original." Aaron remarks.
I watch as a soft smile passes Damian's face at the 'his tiny'. After we had the dreadful emotion talk, he was a lot more open to the idea that his tiny her tiny was not as self belittling as it seemed. When it came from a tiny of course.
"If I was their size, I could and would punch them." Regina said from Gretchen's shoulder.
"I dunno man, some of them were pretty short. I think you could." Damian smiled.
"Hell yeah!" I cheer.
"Well, now that mom friend and reckless are here, let's go see that shirt, Gretch." Regina says motioning further into the store.
Everyone follows Gretchen into the store. Even though we're only here for Gretchen a shirt caught Regina's eye that 'Cady would look so fucking hot in'.
I'm still tucked carefully under Damian's hood, watching as Regina makes Gretchen and Cady try on the two shirts. Cady walks over to Damian holding out Aaron. "Can you?"
Damian grins. "Yeah, shoulder next to Janis?" He asks Aaron as Cady hands him off.
"I won't shove you like Regina!" I throw jazz hands and both boys laugh.
"Sure, shoulder."
Because I'm curled up so close to Damian's neck, Aaron can sit in the center without it feeling too crowded. We watch as Cady walks out first in a shirt.
Its pink, obviously, and loose. The pale pink brought out the constant rosey shades in Cady's cheeks. It shows some mid-drift and- Jesus christ I'm gay.
"Cute!" Damian says. I pull the hoodie up in a vain attempt to hide how hard I was blushing,
Cady went back in to change as Gretchen came out. She was wearing a shirt. It was whatever.
As the two girls got up to pay I could feel the stressed feeling fade. I pushed Damian's hoodie off me a bit. Even as a barely co-sized mall, the fun nature of the group didn't leave. It was nice.
Cady walks over to retrieve Aaron. "What'd you think of the shirt, Janis?" She asks, scooping up Aaron wordlessly.
"It- it was pretty," I say, trying to will my face from getting hot. "It looked cute on you. Nice color."
Damian chuckles and I elbow his neck slightly.
Cady grins. "Thanks, Janis!"
"No problem." My face is red again.
It's so red she can tell oh god why am I like this why-
Cady gives one last smile before walking away to catch up with Gretchen and Karen. Damian does too but he stays a bit behind to talk with me.
"Smooth one, Janis."
"I didn't lie. It looks fucking good on her."
"And I'm the too gay to function one."
"I was functioning! Just poorly."
"Sure." Damian teases.
I huff crossing my arms as a hand scoops me up.
"You know I love you." Damian says holding me to his chest as he weaves through a crowd. There's a lot of shoulder bumping and I'm glad to be here instead of up there. Or more likely on the floor. "What's going on?" He asks catching up to the group.
Gretchen shrugs, Regina in her hands. Both tinies seemed to be in a similar relocated-for-safety- position.
"The crowd came out of nowhere," Karen explained.
It didn't seem like anyone was standing waiting for something, more like we just his a bit of traffic where too many people are all walking in different directions.
We pull over and sit down on one of those charging phone stations with a couple of couches and a table. We're gonna wait for the crowd to pass.
Damian sets me gently on the table in front of the sofa and sits down.
Aaron joins me on the table but Regina stays on Gretchen's shoulder with a huff after being told she isn't allowed to push me off.
We sit and talk for a while, waiting for the crowd to clear out when I see the old ladies from before approaching the area.
Great.
They were sporting coffee from the shitty vegan cafe next to the Starbucks. Pretty sure old cranky Karens are the only thing keeping the store open.
The way the seating area was laid out had two couches with a coffee table in the center.
The 'karens' sat on the other sofa. While I didn't feel great about having my backs to them, I could see Damian and Cady both eyeing them nervously.
"Um," A cranky and high pitched voice speaks up from behind me. "Maybe you shouldn't put your dirty tinies on the table."
And this is where possession became an issue.
"We don't own them," Damian said dully.
Hell yeah, baby.
"They're also cleaner than most things on that table, including the table," Cady says, but both her and Damian lean forward in their seats a little anyway.
"Then where am I supposed to put my coffee?" Another voice whines.
"It's a big table, Miss," Damian says. "They don't take up much room."
"You're mother did a poor job in raising you, young man." One of the ladies speak.
You insult Sherry Hubbard one more time and I'll stab you with one of those plastic coffee mixers. As much as I wanna vocalize my opinion and get violent, I figure its best I left this one to Damian.
"My mother taught me the value of living beings. Tiny or not." Damian says calmly, but I can tell he's as pissed as I am.
There's shuffling behind me and a huge cup of coffee gets slammed down next to me.
I'm sorry, what?
Out of the huge fucking table, you chose half an inch away from me.
It's not even the worst part.
Scalding hot coffee splashes over the edge a bit, landing on my arm and steeping through my jacket.
I shake my arm, jumping back with a yell.
"Janis!" Fear flashes in Damian's eyes as he reaches over and scoops me off the table. "What was that for?" He asked one of the ladies who looked very smug with themselves.
"All I did was place my coffee on the coffee table."
I bit my lip, slipping off my jacket despite all my inner protest to never take it off. The coffee drenched my entire sleeve and left it burning hot. My arm underneath the coat was red and splotchy.
Aaron, who had been transported to Cady's shoulder the second this got violent, looked down at me and gasped.
It didn't hurt too bad, it just looked bad. It felt like sunburn, not blistering burns.
Damian looks down at me and I can see the fear in his eyes turn to anger.
"Do you even care that you hurt her?"
The lady shrugged. "Not particularly, no."
"Yet if somebody spilt boiling hot coffee on a dog, you'd flip shit I assume." Cady said. There was an edge to her voice. Cady never cursed. She's gotta be pissed.
"Somebody spilt coffee on a dog?" Our Karen asked with extreme worry.
"No. Somebody spilt boiling coffee on Janis." Gretchen explains.
"Janis, that's awful!" Karen throws a sympathetic look at me.
I give her a thumbs up knowing she can't hear me.
It hurts to move my arm. I poke it. The skin stays white in contrast to the red around it momentarily. Just like sunburn.
It'll be worse tomorrow, for sure.
I tune back into the conversation after doing a quick harm check.
I don't think I've ever seen Cady chew somebody out so hard. It isn't long before the trio mysteriously has somewhere to be.
The walk away and Cady leans back into the sofa. "One thing I don't miss about Africa? Entitled Karens."
"They disrespect my name." Karen agreed.
"You okay, Jan?" Damian asked, holding me up to eye level with him.
His hands were laid pretty flat like he was scared if he touched me he'd hurt me.
"I'm fine," I say. "For now."
While I may hate high school, I do miss Regina being in charge. Since the whole gang kinda got more open about our friendship with eating lunch altogether or walking the halls with each other, people stopped bothering Damian and I.
Regina George's friends are off-limits.
But the mall isn't high school.
I lay backways in Damian's hands, looking at the ceiling.
"I remember why I don't come here often," I mumble.
Damian laughs, but the stress on his face doesn't ease.
"We should start heading home," Gretchen says. "It was a nice day, lets ditch before more shit goes wrong. You know our luck."
"Yeah," Cady laughs. "No kidding."
"The bad stuff always happens to me!" I groan.
I watch as Cady silently slips Aaron into the chest pocket on her flannel.
He fell asleep.
Lucky bitch.
"I want to take a nap." I say, turning on my side. The coffee burned arm is in the air.
"Sucks that Damian doesn't have his jacket." Regina teased as everyone gets up.
Damian grins. "Still have pockets though."
Damian shifts me onto one hand as he gets up, lowing me to his hoodie pocket.
I typically only go here post-panic attack or something, when I need to hide way but don't want to get claustrophobic with something as snug as the chest pocket.
Still, I'm not complaining.
Damian's hand stays in the pocket, cupped gently around me. I lean further into his hand, without my jacket on I feel cold as fuck. His hands, as always, are warm and soft.
His fingers curl around me protectively and I can't help but laugh softly.
Leave to Damian to worry about me over even the little things.
Hot coffee is by far not the worst injury I’ve gotten over my years. But I could trip and fall on a flat surface or fall from someone's shoulders and Damian would get equally stressed about both of them.
I smelt like burnt black coffee but it was overpowered by the familiar comfort of Damian.
Damian's thumb ran up and down my uninjured arm softly as he continued on with his day like there wasn't a tiny being in his pocket.
The conversation outside of the pocket was muffled. Occasionally Damian spoke up, clearer than the rest, but even his voice was hushed so I could fall asleep.
And to be honest? I wasn't hard to.
Gretchen was right, we had a really fun day.
A little coffee burn can't change that.
Especially if it means my day ends with a nap.
And I'll probably get to stay at Damian's then, where I can see his mother, the wonderful lady who taught him about the value of lives, no matter what some old karen says.
I wrap my arm around one of Damian's fingers as I let myself fall asleep.
i had so much fun writing this fic while yelling at bear about pocket content,,,,its not a g/t mg fic with out pocket time

Tim Drake Positivity Week -Day 4: Funny or Serious
Category: Gen
Genre: Humor/Fluff/Angst/Family
Fandoms: DC Comics, Batverse, Superverse
Continuity : Post-Crisis/Pre-Flashpoint referenced. Rebirth
Summary: Family is a tricky matter in those parts and it's especially true for people who were gone from the world for so long. (featuring Jon, Clark and Conner)
Word Count: 4 979
AN: I'm very late because while this piece has been finished for like a month, I didn't have time to write it on my computer so its posting has been delayed and I apologize (I was already late because it got away from me and started getting long. I had to cut some parts).
This is part of my own version of Tim Drake's come back in the DC Rebirth Plot which I've been working on and planning for, for about a year and a half now. Since I kind of loath Tynion's take on his character...I mean people talk about Lobdell but Tynion worsened everything like 100 times and at least Lobdell admitted to his fault when he created his first Origin Story by saying it wasn't Tim Drake... they literally had everything on a silver platter and they decided to throw it out. It's ridiculous I'm telling you. I still haven't read A Lonely Place of Living, I'm waiting until next Thursday to read it all at once partially because Tynion's writing feels so bland -mostly bc his notion of character development is using timeskips and because he's told a fan he considered Rebirth!Tim to be the same as preboot!Tim and it scared me more than anything because he's exactly the same as N52!Tim- partially because I didn't want to have to wait for a story I had 99% chances of disliking because of the issues I mentioned in the tags and here (or as Shawn Spencer said in Psych, "Just 'cause you put syrup on somethin', don't make it pancakes").
ANYWAY, this happens during my AU which I promise I will start posting some time in November. It kind of gives away a part of it but at the same time, it's something that's so obvious it's not really given away (especially if you've read some of my Tumblr posts). The point of the other fic being "how does it get to this point?".
To read it on AO3
Finally! It was time. Jon had been waiting for this for months (well three months). Which was when Kon-El/Conner had come back to the land of livings...or Earth. True he hadn’t been thrilled to learn about Jon’s existence at first -more the opposite actually- apparently because he and his dad had had issues? And Jon being the new Superboy or something. On top of which there had been the Tim Drake and Bart Allen cases to deal with which prevent any of the older Super’s issues to be solved. But Conner had warmed up to him and now Jon was allowed to spend his Week-End at his place. In Ca.li.for.nia!
Now Jon had gotten used to Metropolis (his self from three months ago would have killed him for it) but the sun of Metropolis wasn’t as agreeable as the one of their old town? And definitely not as nice as the one in California!
He was also finally going to really meet Damian’s “lost” brother whom he had nicknamed the “real” Tim Drake (not to be mean to the other Tim but Witness Protection program and all that Jazz made it his fake name).
So Jon was really excited. His dad was coming down the stairs now, so he could fly him over (Jon still had trouble controlling his power of flight). Jon had just kissed his mom goodbye and was literally jumping to the ceiling in excitement.
“Conner, if you keep pacing like this you’re going to leave a trail on the ground.” Conner stopped. He turned to his right to look at Tim who was reading something on his tablet, comfortably settled on the couch, lounging in jeans and T-shirt, a look Conner was still trying to get used to. Not that Tim had never worn those before, it simply hadn’t been a common sight. He tried to glare at him but the panicked look in his eyes and seemingly emanating from every pore of his skin made him look more like a scared puppy than anything else.
“You don’t get it Tim. You didn’t completely mess up with your younger brother!”
Tim looked up from his Tablet, stared at Conner for a few seconds while raising his eyebrows. It was quite obviously meant to be taken as a “seriously?” and When had Tim learned to do that? And from who? Okay, that question was easily answered. It was probably Alfred.
“I meant as a first meeting! You tried to welcome Damian while I basically just had a small fit like a spoiled brat.”
Great. He was pouting now. Tim sighed and put his tablet on the coffee table next to him. Conner sighed as well and went to sit on it so he could face Tim.
“Look I understand you’re stressed out but it’s quite clear that the kid is ready to forgive you…Plus you had extenuating circumstances…you know with the “mixed memories” and the “having just woken up in a tube” things. And you’re great with kids. Remember Traya, she could make you do anything just by looking at you? You’ll be awkward at first and then you two will be planning my doom”. He paused, seemingly deep in thoughts. “Now that I think about it, I should probably be the one to worry. I mean your little brother or nephew or cousin or whatever is friends with Damian.”
Conner snorted and looked at Tim, now a lot calmer.
“Please. I’m pretty sure you’d be able to tell if he was planning something, he’s not very sneaky”. He paused, breathing deeply. ”Okay, I’m feeling a little better now. Thanks, Wonder Boy.”
He clapped him on the knee as Tim started to smile at him. Both started when the doorbell rang and Tim saw Conner stiffen. Seeing as the meta was starting to panic again, Tim got up first, quickly followed by Conner, and answered the door. He couldn’t help the smile that grew on his face as he saw the new Superboy bouncing on the ball of his feet. He would have smiled anyway (he wasn’t the social butterfly of the Batfam for no reason after all) but at least now it was completely genuine.
“Hey, Clark, Jon, welcome.”
Jon beamed up at him and bit his lower lip as Clark had settled his hands on his shoulders, probably to prevent his son from accidentally showing his powers to their neighbors. Tim moved to his right so they could come in, closed the door and turned to see Conner awkwardly trying to start a conversation. Jon looked at them, in boredom or disbelief, Tim wasn’t sure. So he walked toward him, leaving both “older” Kryptonians (and damn, Conner was younger than his younger brother) trying to avoid the elephant in the room as he addressed Jon.
“Hey, do you want me to show you your room while these two shuffle awkwardly?”
Jon looked at him with pure relief in his eyes and replied with said relief seeping through his words.
“Yes please” He paused “Wait.” He looked between Conner and Tim “I get my own room?”
Conner, who had been glaring at Tim along with Clark, nodded at slowly, taken aback by the kid’s excitement but a smile started to grow because of it. He was definitely a cute kid. Now the point of this Week-End was to find the personality hidden underneath all the cuteness and see if they had a chance of getting along even outside of the vigilante field. Tim had been right when he had told him, a few days after being back, that Conner needed a family outside of the Teen Titans. Something more stable that didn’t rely on a roster and Tim himself was looking for his own place within the Bats or…How had he said it again? “I’d help you by lending you mine but I’m not sure what it entails right now”. And of course they had each other but Conner was sure Tim meant “aside from each other”. He used to have Ma (and Pa for a short time) but he was barely starting acclimating to them when he died and he had finally (relatively) gotten used to it, having a stable family life when those world-changing event happened. There had been that first year in Hawaï with Roxy, Tana, Dubbilex and Rex but “stable” wasn’t the word he’d use to describe that time (still the closest he had for about two years)…And well he did miss Clark and Steel (and Kara and Matrix but…). And Okay, he had never really thought about having siblings. He already had Roxy and Bart and the kids from Cadmus but the idea was appealing even if, technically, Jon would be his nephew? What did you call the child of your cousin? Now that he thought about it was his cover still that of Clark’s cousin? Or was he his brother now? His son? No. He was brought back to that first time of awareness in this new world and shuddered so briefly that only Clark had noticed it. The fact that Tim had apparently lead Jon to his room and left them to their own devices while Conner was daydreaming might have helped in that. Clark who was now lifting an eyebrow, demanding an explanation for Conner’s mind’s wandering. Nice to know Clark was still the king of righteousness. Conner sighed and replied to Clark’s silent probing.
“It’s nothing, something just reminded me of the tube I woke up in. Which got me thinking, are we gonna use the same “I’m your cousin" I.D?”
Clark cleared his throat having been clearly hoping he’d be able to avoid the topic or maybe he was just that awkward with him.
“Actually, Lois and I were thinking that since, uh, you’re not 21 yet, and Ma’s not here anymore”, he paused. Both Kents feeling the weight of her loss in their heart, she was much better at dealing with these family matters than either of them. Conner should have stayed with her. He wanted nothing more than to have stayed with her –with Tim while he sorted through his own family matters of course. But she was gone. And he had to get used to that fact. Apparently, all his parental figures had died while he was “asleep” or whatever had happened to him. Clark’s voice broke him out of his thoughts. “We thought we could be your legal guardians with me being your big brother. It’d be a little hard to explain your existence any other way without making up a whole different family tree.” He paused again. He had started to gain a good rhythm but it seemed like it wasn't easy. Clark was more used to forcing his will on Conner (even if he had gotten better at talking to him over time…Clark still wasn’t Ma Kent and the thought almost had him panicking. He tried to control his breath again -his meeting with Parallax and Sinestro not yet forgotten- and continued. Conner’s little frown didn’t help). “I meant that we would have to create a new mother and where you’d have lived before coming to Smallville -you know how thorough Batman can be when he wants to- and I just thought that me becoming my younger brother’s legal guardian after the death of our Mother made more sense. It allows you to stay here and continue your studies, if you want to. But if you need anything you know my home is yours.” Clark stopped. He was starting to mumble. This situation, with Conner, had never been easy. He had barely started to hit his 30’s when Kon had first appeared. He was too young to have a teenage son (it didn’t help that the child in question was born because a creep stole his DNA to experiment on). Now he was hitting his 40’s and Conner had lost so many years, first with his own death then with the last world-altering nonsense (if only it was only those) and he hadn’t caught up, Conner was barely out of his teens and while Clark could now be a father. Their history got in the way and Conner had a confusing enough track record and putting a little “normalcy” and “stability” in his life had been one of his main reasons to have him live with Ma in the first place. And yet, things had gotten so messed up. He looked at the young man in front of him (because at virtually 19 that’s what he was now and if it that didn’t send a wave of regret…-for Conner’s missed childhood? For not helping him like he should have been helped in his first few years? For everything Conner missed while he was forced to not grow up (and there were too many times it had happened in his life)?- then what could?). Conner seemed startled. Clark didn’t know what exactly had startled him but then he grinned and held out his hand for Clark to shake and said:
“Deal.”
Of course, Clark wasn’t naïve enough to think Conner was perfectly okay with this but being given a chance was all he could ask for. And they smiled awkwardly at each other. Damn.
“Hey Tim, what’s the matter with dad and Conner?”
Jon had just finished putting his clothes in the dresser of his room under Tim’s watchful eyes –he felt lucky he had had to deal with Bart for years and learned to watch out for hyperactive-like kids. The question, while expected was not one Tim was keen on answering.
“It’s not really my place to say at this point. Maybe you try asking him tomorrow morning?”
That pout. Damn. Tim could definitely see the family traits. Though Conner’s always seemed a lot less innocent (to be fair he never looked like an 11 years old and he almost always had terrible ideas fueling them). On a side note, what were the chances Jon had listened in on the other two? Tim didn’t know him enough to actually utter a guess.
“Anyway, due to various time issues we weren’t sure what kids your age like but we thought Video Games was kind of a timeless thing and we’ve got tons of them. Cass has been filling our living room with books if it’s more your thing but Conner and I are more comic books people…There’s also my own training gear in my version of the “Batcave” if you want.”
Apparently, those were the right things to say to divert the child’s attention because he seemed ready to start jumping again (it was probably the mention of video games).
“You’ve got video games? Are they old? ‘Cause you’re old, you’re even older than Conner and you guys haven’t had a lot of time to adjust right?”
Tim felt the urge to cry in protest but had to remind himself of the kid’s age and managed to avoid snapping at him.
“We’ve got all kinds, remember one of us is a speedster so even if Conner and I hadn’t yet, he’s had the time to catch up”
“Cool! By the way, did you mean it when you said I could train in your…what did you call it again? Nest?”
Once again Tim was glad he had had to deal with Bart for a long while otherwise, he’s not sure he could have followed Jon’s babbling. He wondered vaguely if Conner would have acted in a similar way had he been given a chance to be 11. And the bad jokes…Was Superman as bad? He seemed to be from the little times they had interacted and from what Conner had told him (though that one seemed more like unreliable narration).
“I don’t call it anything other than HQ. Conner calls it a nest too though so you can do it.” He paused. “Just please don’t use it outside of this apartment”.
Jon tried to hold in a laugh (and quite obviously failed) before Tim ushered him back downstairs.
“C’mon let’s save those two from an awkwardness overload.”
As Conner closed the door behind his cousin. Wait. Brother. It felt weird. He turned to his best friend and to the kid who apparently was his nephew now.
“So…This is finally over.”
He felt his phone vibrate in his back pocket and he felt his cheeks heat up as he read the message he had just received: “I heard that you know.” Tim and Jon looked at each other questioningly but seemed to decide not to pry (if only because they had already guessed what had happened, Jon himself having been on the receiving hand of his father’s hearing quite a few times). Conner tried to ignore them as he started walking to the kitchen.
“Alright, it’s time to eat!”
Tim’s deadpan voice came from where he and Jon and stayed, making him stop in his track:
“Conner it’s barely 6. How about we spend some downtime together”
Conner’s cheeks turned pink. in his hurry to forget what had happened with Clark he had forgotten pretty much everything else that was going on. He took a sudden turn to the right, toward the living room as he exclaimed:
“Video Games it is.”
Tim sighed and mumbled something about how it was lucky Jon was part of a video games generation and they had already decided it was going to be their next activity or the night would have started badly.
“Right, turn on the Switch, we still have the last sonic game to play and it’s ideal when we have guests”.
Tim snorted as he approached his best friend who had paused in the doorway, patting him on the back as he took his wrist to lead him toward the various video game stations they had. He turned to John.
“C’mon, want to help me destroy his sorry ass?”
“Tim! Don’t talk like that! Clark’s never gonna forgive me if we talk that way in front of his kid!”
Conner was starting to panic, and Tim felt sorry for him. That he was so stressed out about something as simple as…What was wrong exactly with what he had said? He looked at Conner Questioningly.
“You realize you’re not supposed to use words like “ass” in front of a kid, right?”
Tim’s eyes turned slightly vacant. He had, in fact, not known that.
“Oh.”
He turned toward Jon who, annoyed, was grumbling about not being a kid.
“Sorry Jon, I had no idea Conner had become a proper adult. You shall now only refer to him for adult matters. He’s the responsible one”.
Tim had left Conner’s side to set up the console with Jon while his friend was still shell-shocked. Conner was fuming, and he started to raise his arms in frustration.
“It’s not funny Tim! You know how much is riding on this!”
Tim stopped for a second and signed for Jon to keep taking out the console. He got up and walked toward Conner setting his hands gently on his right shoulder and forearm so Conner would drop his arms. He did, forcing Tim to drop his hands and turned to face Tim whose left hand had replaced his right one on Conner’s right shoulder as the other settled on the left side of his neck, hoping he could get his best friend to look him in the eye so he could try to ground him and avoid what he knew was going to turn into a sour mood.
“Hey, it’s okay Conner. Jon’s 11 so I doubt he’s never heard the word before that and he probably knows not to use this kind of language in front of his parents. And you’re stressing yourself too much this is just a mise-en-bouche.”
He stopped for a second, making sure Conner was looking into his eyes “But I promise I’ll make an effort” He patted his friend’s neck and put his hands back to his side and started to walk back toward the consoles. “C’mon let’s get defeated by your brother…Nephew...whichever.”
Conner caught up to him in a few tranquil strokes (being taller than Tim had its advantages and reminding him of the fact was one of them).
“Apparently, it’s Nephew, I’m Clark’s little brother now. Also you might get defeated but that’s because you su- I mean you’re awful at those kinds of Video Games.”
Tim was smiling. He knew it. He may not have been able to see it but he could feel Tim’s wry smile. It was there. Because not two minutes ago he had been pani- no he had been lecturing Tim about his language and he almost had a slip up himself. But Tim seemed to feel magnanimous enough not to mention it…yet.
They had been playing for about an hour and Jon had, in fact, kicked their asses. Conner would probably feel less sulky if Tim hadn’t gotten the best of him too.
He was starting to pout (glare. He was glaring at them) when Tim interrupted the game to say they should prepare their snacks-dinner and to join him once he was done taking the ingredients out. Conner wondered what it could be since they didn’t have much more than pasta ingredients and it wasn’t really “snack-dinner” worthy…Unless…Nah Tim wouldn’t show this side of them to a new guest…Would he?
Anyway, Tim had been in the middle of the couch, between the two Supers and feeling him slip away had Conner almost latching onto his arm and beg him to stay with them when the older teen threw him a look that meant “He’s here so you guys could bond, I’ve been playing the mediator for the past hour and a half, it’s time to deal with your shit”. Okay, so maybe Conner was reading a little more into this and the look just meant “grow a pair”, or “grow up”. The point of the message was still the same.
And damn, it was probably gonna be awkward. What if it was as awkward as when he talked to Clark but this time he would be in Clark’s shoes? This is a terrible ending. What if…
“Tim’s really cool! You’re lucky he was your Robin. I have to deal with Damian. I mean, we get along better (way better) than we did months ago but he’s still a pain. Tim was probably a thousand time more fun to deal with! I mean he’s already much more fun to deal with than most of the other bats even if he’s old.”
Conner looked at the new Superboy, mouth slightly open at having been interrupted in his internal freakout. He couldn’t help but laugh, both at Jon’s conclusion and in relief, startling the kid.
“Oh, Believe me, Tim wasn’t fun or even funny back then. Well…He still isn’t funny. His jokes are awful. He was our leader you know, so he felt responsible for our lives. Plus back then there was the secret identity issue. It frustrated me a lot. Back then we…We didn’t get along actually. In a different way from you and Damian because we wanted to be friends but the circumstances got in the way and pushed us apart. It was quite complicated if I’m being honest. Way more than I realized back then”.
He paused looking at his hands. He had loved that time; when they were all pretty innocent even if some of the most tragic moments of their lives happened during that very period of time : Tana’s death, Guardian’s, Gotham turning into a No Man’s Land, Bruce being accused of murder and going awry, the first time the gap between Tim and Steph really made itself known, Cissie almost killing someone, one of Bart’s clones dying…Apokolips in general…, among others. He really missed the innocence they had before all those events started accumulating. On the other hand, and he knew it was selfish of him considering all the hurt that was needed to get there and how much it caused afterwards, he wouldn’t give up the depth it had given to his and Tim’s friendship for anything in the world, with maybe the exception of Tim having a happy life. He looked up at the kid beside him, hoping he wouldn’t have to go through half as much as he did (but he had Clark and Lois and there was a better support system for young Heroes so he was already off to a better start than Kon had been, and he’d make sure to help keep it that way). He had to take a deep breath as nostalgia took hold of his heart. Because despite everything he had just thought, he wished the evolution of his and Tim’s relationship hadn’t happened at the expense of their innocence and he felt terrible at being responsible for such a big part of Tim’s own. Whether during the war or when he died. He was brought back to reality by Jon hovering next to his arm, looking slightly worried. Conner tried to recompose himself as he continued:
“What I mean is that we had to go through many trials for Tim –and the rest of us really- to learn, and re-learn to have fun and stop being so serious all the time. Now that Tim’s not needed in Gotham, he’s free to be more…at ease I guess…That and he’s trying to make us more...content I guess, so we would have less of a chance to end up like his family.”
He watched Jon grimace and mutter a small “yeah no kidding” and he winked at the kid. He was starting to truly like him. But he felt it was time to join Tim, after all –and despite what Tim himself might think- he needed to bond with Jon almost as much as Conner did.
They both got up as Conner ushered the young hero toward the kitchen which they found filled with recipients and when Conner started smelling it, all he could do was stop abruptly and say:
“Wait a second. Cheese? Potatoes. More cheese?” He paused, his voice going lower as if he had found the answer to the universe because he realized Tim had actually decided on what he had hoped they would be eating. “A deep fryer.”
He shared a look with Tim who smiled at him and they both exclaimed at the same time:
“Cuatro Quesos Dos Fritos!”
Jon started, surprised at their exclamation, staring at them as if they were aliens. Okay, wrong choice of word. Not alien, but something he hadn’t expected. Wondering if they weren’t lunatics –or if they really were adults. He asked in a small voice:
“What’s Quatro Quesos Dos Fritos?”
Tim seemed to remember they had a novice in the delicious art of cheesy food with them and started explaining as he got close to the oven.
“Only the most delicious snack of all time. It’s potatoes filled with a cheese mixture. And when they’re finished, they look a little something like this.”
While he had been distracting both Supers with his little explanation, Tim had taken a plate from within the oven and showed it to them. Conner looked at him, half amazed, half laughing.
“Dude, how did you just fabricate Cuatro Quesos Dos Fritos out of thin air?”
Tim smiled as Jon looked like a fish out of water. Luckily Conner had decided to humor him in his little game.
“C’mon Conner this is how all successful TV chefs do it.” He turned to Jon, his smile threatening to break his face as he took in Jon’s amazed look. “Try one of those, kid, because here’s the best part, they’re very healthy for us."
Jon snorted as he tried one of the Cuatro Quesos dos Fritos then stopped as he was hit by the amazing flavor of the treat, ready to complain to his father for hiding such marvelous food from him all his life. Conner, for his part, rolled his eyes and chose to focus on the delicious taste of the potatoes as he replied:
“I don’t even care that’s not true”
Tim looked affronted as if Conner had said the worse possible thing.
“Are you kidding? All major cheese groups are represented, you’ve got yellow, orange and white!”
Jon grinned as the two almost adults started arguing on the benefits of cheese.
They spent their night making Cuatro Quesos Dos Fritos and playing video Games. Jon complained about Damian (fully supported by Tim) and talked about his adventures in Super Hero-ing while Conner traded him for some of his own. Mostly those back in Hawai (no need for the kid to know about those times he was left to his own device or his Luthor Paranoia) with Roxy, Tana, Dubbilex, Rex and Sam. And while his heart squeezed when he thought about them (Dubbilex was dead and there was nothing he could do about it), they remained at the back of his thoughts. He was starting to truly move on from that part of his life and the various circumstances that had caused him so much grief. He was happy. His relationship with Jon was merely in its early stages, they were merely acquaintances at this point, but he could actually say “early” and believe there would be a follow-up.
He was happily settled against Tim, sharing his family with him because that’s how far they had gotten and he now had a nephew who looked up to him and it both scared him and left him elated (it almost reminded him of Bart when he was Impulse but he had known Kon’s issues better than Jon did and was much less star struck by him).
The best part though was that they were here making jokes and smiling and being happy without thinking about what could go wrong and, really, he couldn’t think of anything he would want more at this point (except having Bart and even Cassie with them).
Bonus:
“Can you believe it Robin? They had so many video games it was amazing! And Cuatro Quesos Dos Fritos had to be made in heaven, it’s hard to believe they exist!”
It was Sunday night and Jon and Damian had gone out for “Patrol” as Damian called it, and Jon had started rambling about his week-end in California the second Damian showed up. He snorted. His relationship with this Drake was more vitriolic than with the other one. Some details were confusing. The merging of the worlds meant that some things didn’t make complete sense as their different sets of memories adjusted to each other and some were just lost. In any case, it didn’t mean he had to be happy to hear about Drake’s “amazingness”.
“I’ve got to say though, I didn’t know what to expect when I got there but they’re so cool. Conner’s so lucky to have a boyfriend as cool as Tim!” He paused. “Wait, does that mean that we’re…kinda officially a family and…”
“They’re not dating”.
The voice cut right through Jon’s monologue like a cold shower would a heat streak gotten on a beach near Ajaccio. Jon was dumbstruck.
“What?”
Damian tried to level his eyes with Jon.
“I said that they’re not dating. As in they’re not together, not in a relationship”
Jon froze and Damian started waving his right hand in front of the younger boy’s eyes until he started blinking again. It was as if his stress levels had risen all at once and so had the pitch of his voice.
“How the hell is that possible ! ? “
Jon was now reviewing his whole Week-End, completely lost and looked at Damian when the boy, coming out of his own shock at Jon’s vocabulary, cleared his throat, trying to regain his snark.
“Now do you understand why I call Drake an idiot?”
AEN: First thing firsts, Conner actually knows what happened to him he just doesn’t want to think about it more than he has to. It was also a fairly important plot point in the real fic so when I thought about it later on I was fairly relieved :p
2nd, in my mind, Tim is about 6-10 months older than Conner. Because Conner was 16 for like a year and a half but when he started aging Tim was 15. So he died when he was 17 and Tim had turned 16 like 3 months before (Tim’s 16th Birthday issue happened around the beginning of Teen Titans). Then Kon was dead for a year and a half going on two years, Tim was 17 almost 18 at the end of Red Robin (we know that if N52 hadn’t happened we would have an issue about Tim’s 18th Birthday fairly soon after) so he was about 17 and a half (probably a little more) when Conner came back to life. Hence Tim being between 6 and 10 months older than Conner.
3. they need hugs. They all do.
4.  the Cuatro Quesos Dos Fritos was shamelessly stolen from the Psych Slumber Party bit on USA today for a Psych Marathon a few years ago. Because Half the time I see Shawn and Gus I can't help but think of Tim and Kon (except I reverse the roles often). I just slightly modified it to fit the story. (but seriously if you haven't, go watch the first four seasons of Psych).

A Party At Wayne Manor (Chp 18)
The secret’s out about Roy and Damian’s relationship, along with Dick and Jason’s future cloned son...to everyone!
“Big brother, hurry up!” Tokyo shouted “We’re gonna end up late to the party!”
“Patience, sis, I’m almost done!” HK shouted back.
Tokyo was pacing herself around the safe house the two got from Jason, as she was busy checking herself out to save some time. She got herself a pink glittery dress and a silk scarf…which is unusual for a feral rabbit like herself. But since it’s a lavish party, it’s best to dress for it to be safe.
HK soon came out the bathroom, for he himself was finally done. He showed up in a black tux, but kept his collar on in place of a tie. So in his case, he looked as if he came out of a bachelor party. The moment Tokyo saw him, she chuckled a bit.
“I always forget that you hate ties” she points out “Let’s hope people will ignore that”
“They might. They’ll be too busy looking at whoever Bruce will being as his date” he responds “And to a further extent, Damian and Roy”
Tokyo then realized it; remembering that Damian and Roy are pretty much a solid couple, even if they’ve been around for roughly six months now. Of course, the duo themselves were gonna be late, so they left the safe house and flew off to the Manor.
Elsewhere in Bludhaven, Dick and Jason were getting ready as well, as both had their suits to be altered to fit their current height. As for Mary, she was busy checking her makeup…long as she doesn’t wear too much…along with the dress she was given to secretly without her fathers’ knowing. When Jason came in, he was the first to notice it off the bat.
“Hey Princess, where did you get that dress there? I like it” he asked her.
“Oh, um…I got it from Ms. Quinn one day” Mary explained “She and Ivy took me shopping while you and Dad 1 was away on patrol”
“Really? Huh…didn’t know that, but glad to hear it. Just let me know if they’re coming, and I’ll perhaps thank them” Jason stated, smiling as he adjusts his tie.
Mary giggles as she was finished up her preparations, allowing Dick to come in to finalize his. He too noticed the dress Mary was wearing, and before he could ask, Jason noticed by saying that Harley got it for her. To Dick’s surprise, that’s a first for him.
“Harley being nice? I haven’t noticed it that much” Dick stated in surprise.
“Yeah. Probably cause with Joker dead and all, Harley’s gotten back to her previous life. Or so I thought, since she’s with Ivy now” Jason responded “Least she’s happy this time”
Dick nods in agreement as the two heads out the bathroom, with Mary awaiting for them near the front door. She said she had gotten a text from Tim, saying he, Barbara and Connor are all gonna pick them up to take them to the Manor.
“Whoa, Connor’s coming also?!” Jason asked in shock “I didn’t know he stuck around. Figure he had went back to Metropolis by now”
“My guess is he may have something important to tell” Dick stated “But let’s hurry so neither of us will be late”
And without hesitation, the three headed downstairs to head outside as they await on the three to arrive. Of course, Mary then questions that if car they have will be big enough for six people, as she knew that most cars can carry roughly five. When asked about the question, she responded by saying that where she or Connor will sit.
“Oh, don’t worry about that. Connor’s able to fly, so there’s probably room for us” Dick responded “Don’t tell me he didn’t inform you, no?”
“I may have heard about it during one of my visits” Mary stated “I thought he was joking at first, until he carried me over the skies to prove it”
Both were rather surprised that not only did she witness Connor’s flying skills, he also took her to the skies with him to further show it. Moments later, Tim pulls up inside a jeep, in which Connor got out of the backseat to allow Mary, Dick and Jason inside. He holds the door open to allow Mary in first, to which she giggled a bit.
“My, Connor, you’re quite the gentleman” she stated with a smile.
Connor blushed at the remark, which he couldn’t help but giggle at it. Mary joined in as she goes inside, with Jason and Dick right behind her. Soon after, Connor closes the door, to which he said that he’s ready to head back. Tim then starts the jeep as he makes his way back over to Wayne Manor, whilst Connor flies above to stay on track.
Back at the Manor, the ball room was two-thirds full with many guests—including Munki, Penny and Oxford, who was astounded by the décor—as everyone was busy mingling and enjoying the festivities so far.
“I must say, this is quite the joy” Munki complimented “I’ve never seen a ball this fancy in decades before”
“I have to agree. Everyone seems so happy, as if nothing’s going wrong. I even saw Selina talking to Bruce over by the wine bar” Penny stated.
And she was right: Bruce and Selina were busy exchanging words as they were even busier with the wine that Oxford had sent—something he brought from the island, he said—a possible sign that they’re pretty much enjoying things.
“I must say, Bruce, this is quite the party” Selina stated “Even Harley herself is having quite the time. Pamela should keep a close eye on her, though”
“Hmm? How so?” Bruce asked curiously.
“Well, with Joker gone and all that jazz, who knows how Harley will move on. Though, rumors stated that Pamela’s allowed her to stay” Selina explained “Even Harley went back to her previous job as a psychologist. Nice for her, though”
And with the conversation about Harley goes on, elsewhere, Tania, Helena and Tyreku were busy munching on the food, much to Tifani’s embarrassment. She had to cover her face as a way of saying she doesn’t know them at the moment.
“Honestly, could ya save some for the guests?” she asked “I’m sure they’re hungry…”
“As if. They’re probably slap drunk on that wine we managed to smuggle in” Helena stated “I’m surprised no one had bitch-slapped anyone yet…”
And as if they needed more reasons to spice up the party a bit, Alfred shows up to announce the arrival of Mr. Todd and Mr. Grayson, alongside their daughter (no one knows she’s been cloned). All eyes turned as the three made their way in. Gasps were heard soon as Mary shows up in the dress Harley and Ivy got for her…gasps of surprise, that is.
“Well, well…is that Miss Todd wearing the dress Harley got her?” Selina asked curiously.
“Looks like it. Had no idea it would look beautiful on her” Bruce responded “I must say, Quinn’s got some taste when it comes to fashion. And I like it”
Mary makes her way through the crowd—Jason and Dick right behind her—as they hear many compliments as to not only her dress, but how the first two Robins are also. Both sporting matching suits and ties, though Dick’s is blue in color while Jason’s in red. Plus, both sport flowers on top of it; colors matching the ties.
“Glad you guys could make it” Bruce calls out “Though, how did you get here?”
“Oh, Uncle Tim gave us a ride” Mary responds “Also, his friend Connor came along with him. Hope they come in, too”
And before Bruce could ask about Connor, he, Tim and Barbara enters the room as well, announced by Alfred. Tim was sporting a suit similar to Jason and Dick’s, but with more of a yellow coloration for his tie and flower. Barbara was wearing a light, glittering dress—Mary picked it out herself—and with Connor having a coat hiding his shirt underneath.
“Looks like he’s having trouble finding a suit” Munki mutters “Though the outfit he has on is good nonetheless”
The trio makes their way to where Bruce and Selina is, with Mary hugging Barbara telling her how nice the dress is. And with the conversation between the eight was going on, a dinging sound was heard from a wine glass…Munki’s own specifically. He then tells people that one more announcement was made as to who’s coming last.
“Knowing myself, I always save the best for last” Munki pointed out “And with that, let me announce the last pairing to arrive!”
As everyone turns to see him, he announces the arrival of Damian and his significant other: Roy Harper. And by then, Alfred shows the upcoming couple as they appear in view of everyone. Damian’s suit matches the ones the other three Robins are wearing, except his is purple with green coloration of the tie and flower.
As for Roy, he dons a white suit with a red tie—he opted to not wear the flower. Eyes were glued onto them as they walked across the ball room. Words of happiness traveled through Damian and Roy’s ears as the pair began to smile; by the time they get to where Bruce is standing, he smiles as he began to hug the two.
“Y’know, this is the sweetest moment ever” Tyreku stated “Makes me wanna cry…”
“Wonder if this is how Bruce reacted when Dick and Jason became a couple?” Tania asked “I haven’t heard much of that from last year”
Tyreku stated that Vivani was the one who found out about it at the diner where she works. She had spotted Dick, Jason, Damian and Roy seated together, which sparked her curiosity. While she was getting their orders, she overheard about Damian and Roy being together, much to their surprise.
“Really? So she found out this long before Bruce did?” Tania asked again “I’m surprised she kept it from us…”
“I’m surprised we’re finding this out just now” Tifani added “But thankfully, there’s no issues out of it, which means the family’s expanding even more…far as I know”
And as the girls watch on, they decided to go up and congratulate on the couple’s sudden announcement. The party had continued on in bright spirits, with everyone talking, laughing, eating and drinking…specially the drinking part, thanks to the contributes of Helena’s idea of wine-smuggling.
“What a party, eh Dad?” Roy asked Bruce.
“You’re free to call me that as soon as I see a ring on Damian’s finger” Bruce chuckled “But I won’t rush it, though”
Roy’s eyes widened from what Bruce stated. A ring on Damian’s finger?! Does that mean that he’s okay with Damian being engaged or married to me, Roy thought, I was expecting something else, but this is good? But of course, he grinned as he hugged Bruce, saying yes in response.
“Now this is a party!” Munki exclaimed as the crowd cheers on.
But to everyone’s sudden surprise, HK and Tokyo somewhat flew in through the windows from the ball room, nearly scaring everyone—save for their own team, who were somewhat used to it.
“Leave it to them to do a surprise appearance” Vivani pointed out “They never fail to do so”
“Sorry we’re late; we’re oddly terrible at directions” HK calls out “But thankfully we got here in time. And speaking of time, Jason…don’t you have any news to share?”
Soon, everyone turned their attention over to Dick, Jason and Mary, with her wondering what did HK meant about news? Jason then turns his attention to her, as he looks at her with a growing smile on his face. This does get her attention.
“Princess…remember those conversations that he and I had before?” Jason asked, mentioning Dick in the process.
“Oh yeah, I do. Why, what’s going on?” she asked him.
“Well, turns out Dick and I are planning a sibling for you…a brother of sorts” Jason replied, hoping she doesn’t get upset “Hopefully he’ll show up in a matter of months”
Realizing that they were heading back to the labs to clone a brother, Mary squeals in excitement, saying that she was actually alright with it the whole time. Relieved, both Robins gave her a group hug, as a wave of aww filled the room. This, however, surprises Connor.
“Something troubling you there, dude?” Tim asked.
“Not really. I’m just surprised that he and Jason are having kids…albeit cloned, like me” he responded “And after seeing Mary, I wonder what their son would look like…”
“My guess is he’d resemble Dick more, although a younger version” Tim assumed “It might surprise Bruce himself once we see him”
Curious but rather surprised, Connor then said that he’s also looking forward to meeting with their future son. As for the others, Roy and Damian were busy with the shrimp—that HK then tried to sneak out with—with Tokyo spiking the other punch bowl when no one’s looking. Ivy and Harley was outside being amazed by the moonlight, but was soon joined by Munki.
           “Enjoying yourselves?” he asked them.
“To be quite frank, we are” Ivy replied “The party’s not too bad, yet everyone’s getting quite drunk or happy. Probably a mix of both”
“And word about another kid for Grayson and Todd really caught my attention” Harley added “What kind of kid would he be? He’ll likely end up as a Robin too…”
Munki ponders on this. He has realized that the Robin trend started when Dick himself was young, then was given over to Jason, Tim and Damian, in that order. But the first three went and got new hero personas…and by surprise, so did Damian recently. Which means the Robin mantle is still in the air, since Mary had likely ditched it for something else.
“Well…there’s a small chance that may happen, upon the young Grayson-Todd’s decision” he pointed out “If he wants to be a Robin, he may…but likely he’ll opt for something else…”
