GREAT GAME ANNOUNCEMENT

It's that I'm telling you about a great game that I think you should play:

Blaster Master Zero

And of course it's sequels BMZ2 and BMZ3, if you like the first.

A SHORT HISTORY LESSON

This game is not new; it's actually one hell of a glow up and remastering of the NES game Blaster Master. A few story tweaks and overall well-needed QOL improvements were made.

This game is also not new; it came out world wide on March 9, 2017. Within a week's time to the Switch's release -- the baby Switch gets one of its first gems.

PLOT TIME

*inhale* *exhale* In the Western version, our beloved protagonist's pet frog (Fred) escapes from his enclosure fishbowl and hops into A GIANT HOLE in his backyard (because nuclear radiation fallout of course). Then Fred comes into contact with a chest, like a Legend of Zelda kinda chest like Ganondorf's big hairy- but radioactive. And it mutated Fred into a giant beast that drags his once owner, and our protagonist, Jason Frudnick *cough*, to a land down under. He can't hear he can't hear the thunder. He wakes up in a big lab with a mech-tank named Sophia III. He then brilliantly decides to commandeer the tank.

And then you go on a big quest to find Fred.

*inhale* *exhale* In Japan's version, it's Frieza's galactic invasion but Goku's name is Caine but spelled like "Kane" so unfortunately no TADC reference and his spirit bomb is an armored tank. No Fred.

And then you go on a big quest to Kill Frieza as a one-man one-tank fireball of destruction. More or less.

*inhale* *exhale* In Blaster Master Zero, in an restored ice-age apocalyptic world several hundred years later, a robot-making genius, *cough* Jason Frudnick, He's like Dr. Wily in that this is important for plot reasons and not for being a petty old fool. No no no, Jason? Why... he's the young handsome inventor and general do good-er probably who's just discovered a Frog-like creature, captures it for study and names it Fred. And, once again, Fred escapes, but now through a wormhole that comes out of nowhere; and Jason chases after him. Upon exiting the wormhole, Jason finds himself in the Underground living areas humans once lived before reclaiming the surface -- now infested by mutants!. Jason enters a nearby lab and discovers a giant mech tank named Sophia III. He then brilliantly decides to commandeer the tank.

And then you go on a big quest to find Fred. And rid the underground of all mutants, Undertale style

GAME STYLE

Blaster Master (Zero) is an adventure platformer, not dissimilar to Metroid's iconic style. There are movement and combat upgrades that you can find and collect in each world. They provide access to new spaces and worlds to explore, sometimes requiring backtracking to previous worlds to take different paths to progress. Very Metroidy.

Blaster Master (Zero) is also a top down maze shooter. You see, you're always playing as a person -- often piloting a big ole' mutant-blasting mech-tank. You can hop out and enter structures, caves, and rooms. You then begin walking through the labyrinthine rooms with your space blaster. Within all these smaller spaces, you can find Weapon upgrades, upgrades to your mech-tank, movement upgrades, and much more. Some may even be guardian by super mutants! (and lemme tell you, these designs are unique or are much older than me and I'm not aware

This concludes the Recommendation. I'm very happy IntiCreates revived Blaster Master and did it so well bro you have no idea.

I just played and got to know the Blaster Master franchise The first game in this franchise that I played was a Blaster Master zero I made the Doodle of the series protagonist Jason Frudnick

Inti-Creates is running a fan art contest for some copies of Blaster Master Zero, so I decided to dive in with my own submission because I absolutely love the idea of Fred being some kind of evil villain.

And so, I, uh...ended up here with this mock-up movie poster, hahaha

I think I started this by sketching things out with the intention of stylizing everything like a retro comic book cover, but...I think I dropped that by the time I began drawing Fred.
