are they really your friends if they don't form a bee ball to heat up and kill your enemies with you?

When gardeners get a little too enthusiastic about "native plants good, invasive plants bad", they miss a crucial fact; very few plants have zero value to wildlife. An abandoned urban lot full of invasives still offers some options for shelter, habitat, and food...sure, the species who make best use of them are going to be the resilient generalists quickly adapting to urban life, but it's something. A barren parking lot offers pretty much nothing except human waste scraps.
So when you're managing an area with a large number of invasive plants, you have to keep in mind that in the short-term, you'll actually decrease the complexity of the ecosystem by removing plants. Obviously you're going to make up for it in the long-term with plants better-suited to your region, but some of those will take years to reach maturity. A lot of experienced native plant gardeners will recommend tackling a large space in sections so you don't turn your entire yard into an empty expanse of wood chip mulch all at once.

It occurred to me that the pigeons and the pickpockets, the immigrant beside me, the tourists, we were all just HERE. You could tell, looking at them ambling around the plaza in their white scarves, that those mothers no longer thought their children might come home. Maybe this was their way of expressing the constant, unending frustration they carried in their hearts, of giving form to the time they had lived through, of refusing to let what had happened get lost in the oblivion of simply being here, like this, right now. Cradling pictures of their daughters and sons, the old women chatted among themselves. That made me feel the reality of it all the more. That’s how it goes, I thought. This is time passing. This is the colour of sorrow.

First drafts for Bee!Kagami and Turtle!Luka
You have no idea how hard the Bee!Kagami was to design… I’m still not 100% satisfied with it.
I thought it would be funny if Kagami’s bee hero name was a real Japanese name just like Ryuko is. Hachimitsu means honey bee so it was perfect.
Turtle!Luka (or Terrapin as I decided to call him) was actually a surprisingly easy design. I’ll probably just tweak a couple of things here and there.

Theriotype List
So, to start out, for context, I think we've all seen a skeptic comment about how all therians are only "cool" animals. I personally have always enjoyed keeping up with those with "rarer" theriotypes and even using them as examples when these kinds of arguments are brought up, so I've decided to do a little bit of a personal project, that being creating a huge list of the wide variety within the therian community. Below is the list I've created so far, sorted by general species, then adding in subspecies/breeds, all in alphabetical order.
Please keep in mind and understand that for now, I am only putting Earthen animals on this list, mainly so I and the post can keep up, because there's a LOT here already and I know there are hundreds more out there. Maybe in the future I'll make another list with mythical/fictional/etc. kintypes, or someone else can do that for me, you have my full permission, just let me know, but for now, just Earthen animals.
This list does, of course, need more entries though. If you have a theriotype that you don't see on this list, please comment or reblog and let me know so I can add it! You can follow and find it with the tag "foxskys theriotype list".

With new headlines popping up with regard to Asian Giant Hornets appearing in Europe, please remember to be careful when it comes to the sensationalization of invasive species. Yes, dangers do come with the presence of this species in areas beyond their native range, but, with proper entomological action taken, those problems can be dealt with. Even the term "Murder Hornet", while the species does attack honey bees, is a sensationalist name, as, barring certain pre-existing factors, humans are highly unlikely to be harmed. Many articles regurgitate the same claim of 30 - 50 deaths annually due to the species in Japan, however, statistics from the Japanese Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare imply the number to be roughly around 10 - 20 per year from all bees and wasps (including these hornets) COMBINED; See this article, note that an automatic translation says "Bee" specifically, but oftentimes text that refers to both bees and Vespids will translate to "Bees" due to common terms like "蜂".
The only thing that panicking does is lead to further sensationalism as well as the misidentification of similar looking, native species, like what happened during that big panic we had in America to species of Sphecius.
