Interview with Dominic Pride for Billboard, August 1999
Need more proof that the UK and the US are nations divided by two A&R; communities? Take a look at British three-piece rock band Muse, from the seaside English town of Teignmouth, Devon.
The act was hotly chased by several labels in the US, according to its management, and eventually pacted with Maverick for North America. Maverick will put out the debut album, 'Showbiz', on Sept. 28; elsewhere, Muse has deals with three other labels for key territories. The band's story underlines the divergence in approaches and tastes of the two different A&R; communities, which results in some UK-bred bands such as Bush, or more recently, Spacehog getting sales and attention in the US while keeping a low key following at home.
Despite garnering attention as a finalist in the best-unsigned-band competition at the UK's In The City convention last year, Muse was initially overlooked by British labels. Muse's management and production company, Taste Media, is a joint venture between Safta Jaffery at SJP Producer Management and Dennis Smith at Sawmills Studio in Cornwall, where part of the album was produced.
Jaffery, who also manages the album's producer, John Leckie, says, "This kind of act didn't get a good reception at the time here, as guitar music was not seen very favourably". An appearance at a US music industry convention in November aroused interest in the band, and Maverick was quickest off the mark, says singer/songwriter Matt Bellamy. 'They were able to do the deal there and then. All the others had to see people higher up.' Guy Oseary, head of A&R; and a partner at Maverick, says he was impressed by the quality of the demo, and when he discovered the band was in LA, he went to see them. "They were showcasing for another label, and after the second song I stopped them and said. 'You don't need to play any more,' he says. "It was extremely powerful and beautiful."
With a sound that brings to mind earlier Radiohead—with Bellamy's vocals evoking those of Jeff Buckley—Muse has already impressed live audiences in the US with a tour that included the Woodstock '99 festival in early August. Says Bellamy, "Our sound is very English, but our live show is American."
Outside the US, Taste Media retains the rights and has struck separate licensing deals for the album. So far, it has pacted with Naive in France; with Mushroom for the UK, Ireland and Australasia; and with Motor/Universal for Germany, Switzerland and Austria (GSA) and the Eastern Europe regions.
"We only sent one package to Germany, and that was to [Universal Music president] Tim Renner and [Motor Music managing director] Petra Husemann" says Jaffery. Husemann says, 'When I heard [the tracks] I thought, 'Wow that's even better than Radiohead—great, emotional, pathetic, teenage depression stuff... just great pop music like I want it to be, and the kind of thing that German youth can identify with.' But the label wanted to be sure that it had a 'real performing act'' adds Husemann. 'I was convinced after a showcase in Hamburg', and, says Husemann, 'We signed the deal that night, and we were just sad that we could only get the rights for the GSA and the Eastern Bloc region'.
Deals are under discussion for Scandinavia and Japan; outside of these markets, Taste Media is considering direct sales via the Internet. Maverick's Oseary says having the band signed to several different labels isn't a problem. 'We share the Prodigy around the world,' he says. 'We have Richard Russell [managing director of the Prodigy's signing label, XL] who keeps everything in check, and I think Safta will do the same.'
Mushroom Records UK managing director Korda Marshall says he had his eye on Bellamy from Muse and his previous bands for several years. Mushroom was among the labels that passed on the band the first time around, but, notes Marshall wryly '...A&R;'s a wonderful thing with 20/20 hindsight.' Marshall believes it is possible for Muse to 'avoid the Bush effect' and have a career running on the twin track of being successful in the US while also keeping other markets - especially the UK - interested. 'England is their home, and it's very important that they are successful here', Marshall says. 'It's important that they have the support among the grass-roots media and build a fan base here'.
The album comes out Sept 20 in Germany, Sept 6 in France and October 4 in the UK The first single in France, Germany and the US will be the towering 'Muscle Museum'; the UK will go with 'Cave' an edgy rhythmic track, on September 6.
Having separate deals rather than a single, worldwide deal benefits the band, says manager Jaffery. 'Each of these labels has worked on the act as if it was a domestic signing,' Jaffery says. Working with an American company rather than signing to the British arm of a major has also worked in the band's favour, Jaffery adds. 'If you look at the number of British bands who have done it that way around, very few have made it. [US labels] are not as impressed by the British acts anymore; there isn't the feeling of importance.' Adds bassist Dominic Howard [sic] 'We got a chance to tour the States and build up a following. For a lot of acts that do well here, it can be quite a knockback when they don't do well there.' Maverick's Oseary says he signed Muse with no baggage about their origins, and especially not about their being passed on by British labels.
'That's the least of my concerns,' he says. 'I didn't know that, and I don't care about it. They are just a really great band.' Having success in the US before getting noticed at home can often hamper an acts career, says Mushroom's Marshall. The small group [of media] need to feel they discovered it themselves.' He points, however, to acts such as Ash and Garbage that have managed to retain the credibility of their UK fan bases while selling albums in the US. Muse have British live commitments pending—including several gigs and an appearance at Reading Festival on Aug 27—which take the band to Sept 4. After that, Muse returns to the States for a 12-city tour.

Bucci Gang and Food: Habits, History, and Preferences
Food can say a lot about a character - let’s see how with the Bucci gang. The following will contain a combination of canon and canon compliant or based headcanon.
Giorno
History
- In Japan, a very young Giorno was forced to eat packaged snacks and cold leftovers - mostly chicken and rice - while his mother left him alone at the apartment to go out and party
- Later in Italy as he grew older and more capable, Giorno tried to learn to prepare his own food, but was often scared to occupy the kitchen and “get in the way” or “make a mess” with cooking and dishes due to his mother and step-father
- As a result he mostly learned to make quick, simple, and/or prepackaged meals and plain snacks such as sandwiches, canned soup, salads, raw fruits and vegetables, and package pastas
- After taking up pickpocketing and scamming, Giorno started using some of the money he obtained to eat out at cafes and small restaurants away from home where he could enjoy well-prepared food in peace without the presence of his parents
Favourite Foods
- Chocolate: Chocolate was a very rare treat for young Giorno and was always savoured and throughly enjoyed whenever he had the chance to eat some
- Pudding: As a quick and easy to make snack (from the box at least), Giorno ate a fair amount of pudding growing up as it was simple and quick for either him or his mother to whip up, and it was more enjoyable than cold leftovers
- Octopus Salad: A more flavourful dish he occasionally got leftovers of in Japan (which was also intended to be eaten cold), octopus salad also happens to be a dish made in Italy, and little Giorno took to Italian octopus salad due to the familiarity and positive association
Least Favourite Foods
- Poultry: As a young child in Japan Giorno was left alone in his room with leftovers, forbidden form/unable to use the oven or other appliances to heat his food. Being forced to eat long-cold leftover chicken rice and yakitori turned him off of white meat due to the unpleasant texture and the associated memories of neglect and abandonment
- Duck Meat: He once heard about foie gras (force-feeding) ducks and has avoided any kind of duck meat since
Eating Habits
- Due to his past he can stomach eating most things without complaint, but whenever possible he prefers to eat foods that he favours and/or are of high quality
- He consciously tires to eat healthy and provide his body with proper nutrition to fuel his growing brain/body and daily mental/physical performance
- Giorno enjoys sweets, treats, and junk food, but he also has great self-control and monitors his intake to prevent overindulgence
Cooking
- He can prepare basic meals and follow simple instructions in the kitchen
- However, he has very little experience cooking from scratch
Bucciarati
History
- Growing up his mother made lots of delicious home-cooked meals, often using fresh market ingredients and fish caught by her husband, and a young Bruno would often help her by fetching and prepping ingredients
- After his mother left, Bruno took over making meals for himself and his father, who lacked both the time and the know-how
- Bruno became a good cook and sometimes baker as a result
Favourite Foods
- Spaghetti alla bottarga and oven-baked porcini mushrooms with scallops: His mother and father’s favourite dished respectively
Least Favourite Foods:
- Beans and apples: just doesn’t care for the taste/texture, idk
Eating Habits
- Knows the importance of eating healthy - especially for growing teenagers like Fugo, Narancia, and later Giorno, whose intakes he tries to monitor without being nosy or over controlling
- Enjoys both cooking and eating good, healthy meals
Cooking
- A good cook, especially with fish, but can make other dishes as well as bake
- Gets everyone to eat all their recommended amount of nutrients and different food groups by cooking them into various dishes
Abbacchio
History
- Would sometimes help his mother out in the kitchen growing up, and after moving out he learned how to cook for himself
- Had a liking for wine before the alcoholism
Favourite Foods
- White WIne (Greco di Tufo): idk I haven’t come up with any headcanons yet
- Arugula Salad: idk I haven’t come up with any headcanons yet
- Pizza Margherita: idk I haven’t come up with any headcanons yet
Least Favourite Foods
- None: Abbacchio’s not a picky eater and will eat most whatever he has/is given to him even if he doesn’t care for it
Eating Habits
- A fairly big eater in order to maintain his muscle mass [those tiddies (° ͜ʖ ͡°)]
- Went through detox but still drinks wine almost daily with or without meals, partly because he cant’t completely give up alcohol but also because he just likes the taste
- Watches his alcohol consumption so as to not fall back into old habits and become dependant again
Cooking
- A decent cook and enjoyer of wine
- Knows more about cooking in theory than in practice
- A better casual connoisseur than chef
Fugo
History
- Parents had a specific diet laid out for him as a child chosen to help maximize his health and development with daily meal plans based on latest research and studies containing all recommended food groups and nutrients
- Dinner was eaten “as a family” with Fugo and his parents (and sometimes other relatives or guests), in a very formal and tense atmosphere
- Occasionally he got to bake with his grandmother when he was awarded free time to spend with her, and he enjoyed his favoured desserts she’d bake specifically for him during these times
- After Bucciarati took him in he tried to teach him to cook but Fugo never really took to it
Favourite Foods
- Strawberries: has dear memories of picking and eating them with his grandma from her garden, and after he first took a liking to them she preserved and incorporated them into many desserts for him whenever he was able to visit
- Baked Desserts: wasn’t allowed any candy or many sweets as a child but for the pastries and treats his grandma made for him, which were special treats he got to eat with her
Least Favourite Foods
- Red Meats: ate a lot of fancy and expensive meat dishes during formal and family dinners, and though he never liked the a lot of the textures he had to force them down anyways
- Greasy Foods: he doesn’t like messy hand foods which get his hands dirty/sticky/oily, and really greasy fast food tends not to agree with him either
Eating Habits
- Doesn’t like to eat big meals and prefers to snack at odd times throughout the day/night, often while working on something like paperwork
- Will forget or outright neglect to feed himself if he gets really engrossed in a project and/or upset at self for a perceived failing
- Despite how much he enjoyed strawberries and desserts he only indulges in them occasionally, and seems to prefer to keep his liking of them to himself
Cooking
- Bucciarita tried to teach him how to cook but he never took to it as he gets easily frustrated by mistakes and unexpected deviations and doesn’t have the patience to do it either
- Despite this he seems to enjoy baking, though he’s never verbally admitted it
Narancia
History
- His mother saw that he was well fed as a child, but after her death and Narancia’s move to the streets food was harder to come by
- After being abandoned by his gang he started going hungry, scrounging leftovers from the trash or wherever else he could get them
- After joining Passione Bucciarati again made sure he was well fed
Favourite Foods
- Pizza (Margherita with mushrooms): him and his mother’s favourite dish they would order and restaurants or make at home to eat together
- Orange Juice: took a liking to it as a child and after his mother told him about the high vitamin C he continued drinking it regularly
Least Favourite Foods
- Spicy Foods: just doesn’t handle heat well and starts tearing up and turning red with even mild spice
Eating Habits
- A voracious eater, both during his childhood and later as a teen with the gang
- Eats most food so long as it’s not spicy, though he’s not fond of meat dishes
- Will put unusual combinations of food together
- Hoards food and treat, has a sweet tooth and love of candy
Cooking
- Disaster in the kitchen who needs to be carefully guided and supervised when cooking or helping out
- Will happily help out in the kitchen but everyone has collectively agreed never to let him be wholly in charge of a meal ever again
Mista
History
- Never wanted for food growing up in a big family on farmland with lots of homemade leftovers and fresh or canned fruits/vegetable always available
- After moving to the city to live on his own he couldn’t be bothered to cook from scratch and mostly ate prepackaged meals and whatever he could get for cheap at the store or market
Favourite Foods
- Tuscan White Beans: his favourite food growing up on the farm
- Trippa: has a liking for hearty meat dishes
- Pizza: available as either handmade cuisine or fast and easy prepackaged meal
Eating Habits
- Won’t eat raw fruits or vegetables unless they are fresh and high quality, probably because these were the high standards he was used to growing up on a farm
- Enjoys homemade and/or high-end dishes and cuisine but loves processed and/or junk food just as much
- A big eater and will steal food off of other people’s plates
Cooking
- Could never be bothered to learn and still will not be bothered to try cooking for self
- On rare occasions he is in the kitchen, his lack of concern for details and time/effort saving shortcuts often cause problems
- He is aware of the flaws in his cooking and readily admits them, citing them as reasons why he should not cook
Trish
History
- Her mom always ensured that she and Trish had sufficient quality and quantity of food, even if they were stretched a bit thin at times
- Donatella also treated herself and her daughter to various higher end/expensive/exotic food and treats when possible
Favourite Foods
- Perrier Mineral Water: a more affordable and healthier fancy drink than other alternatives
- Salads: a staple food at home, easily made and customizable with various toppings and seasonings
- Crab: a favourite treat at restaurants on a night out
Least Favourite Foods
- Pizza: doesn’t like the greasy hand-held part of eating it
- Orange Juice: thinks the flavour is too strong and it clashes horribly with lots of other tastes
Eating Habits
- A fairly dainty and rather picky eater, has certain standards and requirements for the food she eats and won’t accept anything that doesn’t meet them
Cooking
- Learned to prepare food for herself as kid while her mom worked and is a fairly good cook for a teenager

Three Hours Longer, the Pandemic Workday Has Obliterated Work-Life Balance (Bloomberg) Six weeks into a nationwide work-from-home experiment with no end in sight, whatever boundaries remained between work and life have almost entirely disappeared. With many living a few steps from their offices, America’s always-on work culture has reached new heights. The 9-to-5 workday, or any semblance of it, seems like a relic of a bygone era. Long gone are the regretful formalities for calling or emailing at inappropriate times. Burnt-out employees feel like they have even less free time than when they wasted hours commuting. People are overworked, stressed, and eager to get back to the office. In the U.S., homebound employees are logging three hours more per day on the job than before city and state-wide lockdowns, according to data from NordVPN, which tracks when users connect and disconnect from its service. Out of all countries that NordVPN tracks, U.S. workers had tacked on the most hours. In France, Spain, and the U.K. the day has stretched an additional two hours, NordVPN’s data found. Italy saw no change at all.
Coronavirus relief pushing US deficits to staggering heights (AP) Spend what it takes, Washington said as it confronted the coronavirus. Well over $2 trillion later, it’s unclear where that spending will end. One of the lasting legacies of the coronavirus pandemic will be staggering debts and deficits on the U.S. balance sheet, with shortfalls hitting levels that would have been unthinkable just a few decades ago. It’s a fiscal clamp that is likely to persist for a generation, or even into perpetuity, with debt levels having passed the point of easy return in a capital where lawmakers are increasingly incapable, or unwilling, to constrain them. The latest, and dire, projection from the Congressional Budget Office, released Friday, states the U.S. deficits will mushroom to $3.7 trillion in 2020, fueled by the four coronavirus relief bills signed into law by President Donald Trump. A fifth bill is already in the works, and will be “expensive,” according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
Trump says he will block coronavirus aid for U.S. Postal Service if it doesn’t hike prices immediately (Washington Post) President Trump on Friday threatened to block an emergency loan to shore up the U.S. Postal Service unless it dramatically raised shipping prices on online retailers, an unprecedented move to seize control of the agency that analysts said could plunge its finances into a deeper hole. “The Postal Service is a joke,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. To obtain a $10 billion line of credit Congress approved this month, “The post office should raise the price of a package by approximately four times,” he said. Trump for years has alleged the Postal Service has charged too little for packages and personally pushed the head of the agency to charge far more to ship goods for big online retailers. Several administration officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, have said Trump’s criticism of Postal Service rates is rooted in a desire to hurt Amazon in particular. They have said that he fumes publicly and privately at Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post, for news coverage that Trump believes is unfair.
Turmoil in Brazil: Bolsonaro Fires Police Chief and Justice Minister Quits (NYT) Brazil’s justice minister, Sergio Moro, a former federal judge who became the face of a powerful anti-corruption crackdown that swept Latin America, resigned Friday after accusing President Jair Bolsonaro of seeking to assert improper control of the federal police for political gain. Mr. Moro’s acrimonious departure was a volatile and unexpected development in Brazil, where the rapid spread of the coronavirus has overwhelmed hospitals and roiled the political establishment. Mr. Bolsonaro, who has downplayed the gravity of the virus, last week fired his health minister after the two clashed over strict quarantine measures to slow the contagion. Mr. Moro was the eighth minister to leave Mr. Bolsonaro’s cabinet during the 15 months he has been in office.
Spain’s kids prepare for taste of freedom after six-week lockdown (Reuters) Spain released guidelines on Saturday allowing children to go outside after six weeks living under one of Europe’s strictest lockdowns, as figures confirmed a daily coronavirus death toll running well below the peak seen early this month. Children were trying out their masks in anticipation of their first taste of fresh air since Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared a state of emergency on March 14. The government said under 14s will from Sunday be allowed up to one hour of supervised outdoor activity per day between 9am and 9pm, staying within one kilometre of their home.
Pakistani prime minister sidelined on coronavirus (Financial Times) Imran Khan has been sidelined by Pakistan’s powerful military after failing to act decisively on the coronavirus crisis or impose a lockdown in an attempt to curb the spread of cases. On March 22, the prime minister told the nation that his government would not institute a sweeping lockdown, arguing it would put millions out of work and leave families struggling to find enough food to eat. But less than 24 hours later, military spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar announced that the army would oversee a shutdown to halt the spread of infections in the world’s fifth most populous country of more than 200 million people.
India reopens stores, speeding easing of virus lockdowns (AP) A tentative easing around the world of coronavirus lockdowns gathered pace Saturday with the reopening in India of neighborhood stores that many of the country’s 1.3 billion people rely on for everything from cold drinks to mobile phone data cards. The relaxation of the super-strict Indian lockdown came with major caveats. It did not apply to hundreds of quarantined towns and other hotspots that have been hit hardest by the outbreak that has killed at least 775 people in India. Last week, India also allowed manufacturing and farming activities to resume in rural areas to ease the economic plight of millions of daily wage-earners left without work by the country’s lockdown imposed March 24. India’s stay-home restrictions have allowed people out of their homes only to buy food, medicine or other essentials.
In Japan, children of nurses face discrimination, exclusion over virus fears (AP) Children of Japanese medical professions face discrimination or even exclusion from day-care centers over fears they might have the novel coronavirus, increasing the stresses on front-line workers as the country’s health-care system nears collapse, according to media reports. Although most schools and day-care centers around the country are closed, some remain open. Bloomberg reported that children of medical workers were being excluded or asked to prove they didn’t have the virus. Kyodo News reported that some medical professionals had been forced to quit their jobs because of the discrimination against their family members, deepening the crisis in a profession where staff are already under massive pressure and working round-the-clock. “There’s growing prejudice and discrimination against people in the medical field,” said Shigeru Omi, the deputy head of the government’s advisory panel on the virus, according to Bloomberg. “It’s even extending to their families.”
Gaza factories roar back to life to make protective wear (AP) For the first time in years, sewing factories in the Gaza Strip are back to working at full capacity—producing masks, gloves and protective gowns, some of which are bound for Israel. It’s a rare economic lifeline in the coastal territory, which has been blockaded by Israel and Egypt since the Hamas militant group seized power from rival Palestinian forces in the strip in 2007. The blockade, and three wars between Hamas and Israel, have devastated the local economy, with unemployment hovering around 50%. Rizq al-Madhoun, owner of the Bahaa garment company, said he has produced more than 1 million masks in the past three weeks, “all for the Israeli market.” Gaza may not have the advanced machinery seen in other places, but he said residents’ sewing skills are unmatched. “Gaza workers are distinguished in handiwork and they are better than workers in China or Turkey,” he said.
Ghana’s dancing pallbearers (Washington Post) You may have seen them on the Internet: six men in black suits, sunglasses and patent leather shoes grooving to a techno beat while carrying a coffin. They are Ghana’s dancing pallbearers, a crew of funeral performers who have long sought to make mourners grin through grief. But as the coronavirus pandemic rages, they’ve become the accidental faces of a stay-at-home movement—comedic grim reapers edited into footage of risky behavior as a warning. Reopening a mall when cases are mounting? Cue the dancing pallbearers. Protesting a lockdown in a covid-19 hot spot? Cue the dancing pallbearers. Forget to wash your hands before eating? Cue the dancing pallbearers. People in China, Brazil and the United States have shared video after video since the outbreak began, garnering millions of clicks and an international fan base for the group. Benjamin Aidoo, who leads the group, isn’t sure how it happened. He woke up one March morning and saw his signature moves everywhere. “It’s a bit scary, but it’s funny, too,” said Aidoo, 32, who lives in Accra, the capital of Ghana. “People are saying, ‘I’d rather stay home than have these guys bury me.’ ”

Konbanwa! Mock Yoshinoya Gyudon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a long work week with extra long commutes, we decided to spend our Friday the 13th not doing spooky stuff. Instead, we were going to binge watch our favorite Japanese trash TV: Terrace House. The new season came out on Netflix and we haven’t been able to watch a lot of episodes throughout the week. We wanted to make a meal that would put us in the Terrace House-mood and let bring us back to our last trip to Japan (during our honeymoon!).
One of the first meals that we had when we were about to head from Tokyo to Kyoto after we landed was at Yoshinoya. Both of us ordered gyudon because it was quick, yummy, and delicious! So what better way to throw us back than to make some homemade gyudon!
It’s a really quick dish to make if you have the ingredients ahead of time and have prepped. Honestly the longest thing to make is the dashi and most of that time is just wait time. We also used whatever was in our pantry so we didn’t have to buy what we didn’t need.
Here’s how we made it (modified for low carb considerations for me!):
Ingredients:
1 onion, slices thin and long
Thin sliced beef, I just purchased a package from the Japanese market that already sliced it thing for me. Otherwise, you can even just buy chuck beef and slice it thin yourself.
1 1/2 - 2 cups of dashi, which is a broth that we made at home with bonito flakes, konbu and dried mushrooms
4 tbsp of soy sauce or coconut aminos. Both will add lots of umami to the dish. I just kind of eyeball it and add more to taste.
1/2 tsp of stevia. Traditionally you would use sugar, but since I’m trying to cut back the carbs, I substituted with stevia instead and it tasted practically the same!
2 tbsp sake. I just bought the cheapest one at the store.
1 tsp (or more) of grated ginger. We love ginger so we upped the amount.
Instructions:
The first step is to make the dashi. It’s pretty easy. You can use a cheesecloth or just strain the broth once you’re done. Basically all you have to do is boil water, bonito flakes, konbu, and dried mushrooms. We added to taste and it really depends on how much dashi you want to make. We used at least a 1/2 cup of bonito flakes and 2 konbu sticks. Normally we’d add about a 1/2 cup of dried mushrooms but we didn’t have that on hand. Still tasted good though!
Slice the onion into nice slightly thin slices.
Add 1 1/2 - 2cups of dashi into a cooking pan and then add the onions. Bring to a quick boil for about 3-4 minutes.
Add the soy sauce, stevia and sake and cook down to reduce the sake. Taste it to see if you want to add a bit more soy sauce for extra flavor.
Add the ginger and cook for another minute.
Add the beef into the cooking pan and basically move the beef around until it’s cooked and not pink. It might take a few minutes or so, but it should be a really quick cook.
Add the beef over some steamed rice and add a fried egg on top if you like! For a low carb alternative, I added my beef over baby bok choy that I cooked in the extra dashi that I made. For a little extra flavor, I added some of that gyudon liquid into the bok choy as it steamed.
This is probably going to be one of our go-to dishes given how quick it was to make and how delicious it turned out! You can turn any dish into a low carb version by eating it over some cauliflower rice or vegetables like I did!

The rise in demand for polyester fiber and yarn in the textile industry and the growing consumption of PET bottles are anticipated to propel the growth of the purified terephthalic acid (PTA) market in the region. The APAC is followed by North America and Europe respectively. This is due to the high polyester fiber consumption potential of North America which can be attributed to the growing increasing usage of industrial machinery, swelling paints & coatings production capacities, and an intensifying economic growth rate.
Competitive Landscape
The global purified terephthalic market is a highly fragmented market. The key players of the market account for about a little over one-third of the global revenue. The purified terephthalic acid market is highly competitive, with all the players continually competing to gain a larger market share. The key players operating in the global purified terephthalic acid market are British Petroleum, Reliance Industries, Sinopec, Indorama Ventures Public Company, SABIC, Eastman Chemical, India Oil, Lotte Chemical, Mitsubishi Chemical, Petkim Petrokimya Holding, JBF Petrochemicals, MCPI, Jiaxing Petrochemical, China Prosperity (Jiangyin), Petrochemical, Hanwha General Chemical, Hengli Petrochemical, DuPont, Formosa Plastics Chemicals, and other prominent players. Liquid Packaging Market Volume, Analysis, Future Prediction, Industry Overview and Forecast 2025
Evolving consumer behaviour has been driving the various trend waves in both food and beverages, and consumer products industries. While packaging has been among the most critical elements of both the verticals, the dynamics of packaging also tend to be influenced by the frequent preferential shifts observed in consumers. Liquid packaging market particularly involves packaging material manufacturers, packaging converters, as well as packaging equipment companies. The market has been analysed in depth by a new upcoming research report of Fairfield Market Research for the period 2021 – 2025.

F&B, and Pharma Key Consumer Industries
Extensively adopted by a number of segments like processed food products, beverages, dairy, chemicals, personal care, and cosmetics, demand for liquid packaging solutions will remain on an upward trend over the period of forecast. Besides food and beverages, followed by consumer goods, another end-use industry that continues to generate continuous demand for liquid packaging solutions is pharma. Frequent product innovations in all these categories will remain the key push factor for liquid packaging manufacturers operating in global market.
Evolving Packaging Requisites Point to a Shift from Rigid to Flexible
Rigid packaging, though the most preferred type of packaging, has been recently experiencing stiff competition from its flexible counterpart. While PET bottles, cans, cartons, and glass jars provide high impact resistance, flexible packaging formats serve to take the benefit of functional packaging to a next level. Moving over conventional rigid packaging solutions, the liquid packaging market has been adopting a shift toward flexible packaging formats as the latter allows for greater efficiency at reduced production costs. Flexible formats also increase product compatibility for retail, which is a strong factor driving market growth according to the report.
Asia Pacific Maintains its Lead; Sustainable Formats to Penetrate Faster in North America and Europe
While the market in North America, and Europe will continue to benefit from mushrooming markets for ready-to-eat meals, and nutraceuticals, these regions have been witnessing rapid rise of paper-based sustainable packaging alternatives recently. Plastics will still remain stronger when compared with metals, and glass. Sustainable liquid packaging is expected to faster penetrate these markets. On the other hand, Asia Pacific remains global leader on the back of the excellent growth potential of markets like China, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia. Solid expansion of both pharmaceuticals, and food and beverages industries across the region will continue to boost market growth here.
Competition Analysis: Liquid Packaging Market Landscape
Nippon Paper Industries Co. Ltd., Mondi PLC, Elopak AS, BillerudKorsnäs AB, Tetra Laval International S.A., International Paper Company, Liqui-Box Corporation, Smurfit Kappa Group, Klabin Paper, and Comar LLC. Strong presence of a large number of small-, and mid-sized companies continues to retain the competition intensity. Many of the key players remain focused on partnership agreements targeting frequent new launches. In-licensing will also be a preferred development strategy among competitors. A majority of active players look to augment investments in lucrative developing markets of Latin America, and Asia Pacific for their excellent cost benefit.
