On Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani reiterated the call for the coalition's departure. "The end of the US-led coalition mission is a necessity for the security and stability of Iraq. It is also a necessity for preserving constructive bilateral relations between Iraq and the coalition countries," Sudani stated during a televised event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Sudani has consistently expressed the desire for foreign troops to leave Iraq, with the country adopting a law to expel foreign forces following the assassination of top Iraqi and Iranian anti-terror commanders in a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh admitted earlier this week that US forces in the region came under attack 140 times [since 7 Oct]. Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Singh disclosed that the attacks have been "persistent and alarming."

Just One Moment...

Their first kiss was one that Spock had never forgotten. He’d been on the run from Starfleet under false charges of murdering three people. Time had been a fluid concept for him, even when the Talosians had helped him. There were memories of those months when he was lost, he wasn’t sure what was real and what was the human part of his mind trying to find solace from the madness. Meeting her, the kiss they shared felt almost like a dream. 

Sometimes he still dreamed of her, the dingy bar on a non federation star port. Her sitting alone at a table in the corner. Small missing pieces of the memories filtered in. The soft curve of her lips as she smiled sardonically. The deep seated grief in her eyes, her pain had been palpable, she didn’t seem to care who he was or why he sat with her. But she was astute even while deeply inebriated. 

When Security were in sight, she surprised him as she kissed him, her hands gently covering his ears, something he usually despised as he hated people touching him especially his ears. But he knew she did it on purpose to conceal him in plain sight.

Soon enough, it didn't matter as he was lost to her. The pleasure was heady and intoxicating. Her kisses tasted like rich rum and strawberries. He couldn't explain it but there was something that was singularly her. All the intrusive thoughts and memories of the Red Angel and what it had shown him, faded to the distant corners of his mind.

After months of spinning out, he felt grounded, rooted into one place. Finally present. He kissed her back as he desperately held onto her and the feelings. He knew it was all fleeting, They both luxuriated in the kiss, taking and giving, seeking something from the other. 

Before he could pull her into his body and take it further, she pulled back and smiled softly. She gently caressed his face and for the first time in a very long time, he felt hope, like everything would be ok. He couldn’t comprehend how a simple look could have such a profound effect on him. It took him a moment to realize she was talking. But he heard her as she told him that he was going to be ok and then gave him instructions on how to evade security and escape.

He left the bar, not before looking back once, she smiled and raised a glass at him. He felt oddly bereft as he realised he’d never see her again. That he’d never be able to feel what he had in those fleeting moments with her again.

Months later, their paths collided. This time, on the bridge of the Enterprise, he nearly didn’t recognise her until she spoke. Then the memories came rushing back, it was hard to compare the memory of her with the woman before him. She was the perfect image of a Starfleet officer and yet, he couldn’t help but wonder if she still tasted like strawberries. Wonder why she had helped him, but for now, the mission to save Number One came first.
