Real! I also thought Jamil may have lived inside the Palace grounds if not nearby, seeing how important the Vipers are as servants.

I remember one of his Silk lines saying sometimes he and his friend(s) would hang out in the Camel Bazaar because he didn't wanna go straight home. Which now confirms to me that him being home after school likely meant going back to his duties, if only because Kalim would wanna hang out (somebody should've let that kid make more friends at least via letters)

I also have the idea that maybe Kalim felt lonely after Jamil entered NRC because he was the only kid his age he was allowed to hang out with (his only "friend"), and this was different from middle school when Jamil would come back after classes. Now he was gone for a whole semester, maybe the whole year even! NRC is a boarding school, so he doesn't have to go back home if he doesn't want to, unless ordered to (something something laws about education may give him some freedom and protection).

So Kalim obviously took the chance to join Jamil at school! It's perfect, he gets to be back with his best friend and also make new friends there. What could go wrong? *Dings of foreshadow*

Jamil being reluctant to speak up about his problems with Kalim because of his family ‘possibly being thrown out of their jobs and home’ is so real now that Chapter 7 confirmed that the Asims own Jamil’s house and the Vipers live on Asim property. I had a feeling he was but it’s nice to see it verbally confirmed 😭
