Greater Manchester ‘worst city in Europe for clean and green transport’, says new report City region is branded worst in Europe for eco-friendly transport“I’d hoped we could take a Bee bike to Salford,” said Sarah Rowe of the Clean Cities Campaign after meeting the Observer at Piccadilly station in Manchester. “But look.”Her app shows that none of the docks nearby has any bicycles, so we take a taxi. The driver gets £12 and the people of Manchester get 15 more minutes of exhaust fumes. The Good Omens Musical Masterpost🎵❤
How it started :)
Some time before 2013: Vicki Larnach, the australian composer and lyricist, read the Good Omens book, imagined figures dancing on stage with brilliant music and thought, ‘Ah, I’m gonna ask Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman if I can turn it into a musical.’ and sent an email to the publishers. The next day she got an email saying, ‘We don’t want a musical but Terry’s coming to Australia, so come and say hello and tell us what you got.’
Rob Wilkins came down to meet Vicki and Jim Hare - Vicki's husband and writer - and took them to meet Terry. They spent an hour and a half with them where Terry asked ‘piercing questions’, had tea with them and they showed Terry a song that Vicki wrote (about the Chattering Nuns). Terry said to Rob, ‘Rob, write and email to Neil, “Dear Neil, this is Terry. I’m sitting in front of two hippies from Sydney and they want to make a musical out of Good Omens and I’m tempted to let them do it.”’ which was the best email they ever heard and then Terry said, ‘Okay, you have me curious.’ - it was because of the Nuns song which sounded like the book. ‘I’m gonna give you six months, come back with a first draft libretto and five songs.’
They then sent it to Terry who sent it to Gaiman. Terry said, ‘I really like it, you’re moving story, you’re doing all the right things, but where’s showstopper, where’s the toe-tapper, you know I need people to go to intermission just snapping their fingers with the song they just can’t get out of their head, and I haven’t heard that.’ - and they realized that they were so busy serving the story they forgot to do the wow-factor, but found it very encouraging from Terry that he wanted to make it better.
They went through the whole book again to find a centrepiece - and they found it  when Warlock is growing up and Aziraphale and Crowley are with him, and spent months working just on that one thing and called ‘All Living Things’ [the song at the start of this post :)] which is a line from the book.*’ Terry gave that song to a person he knew and asked him to play it to his wife with no context and when the next day the person said that his wife woke up still singing the song Terry said to Vicki and Jim: ‘Well, that’s what I asked you to do.’
* [“This here’s Brother Slug,” the gardener would tell him, “and this tiny little critter is Sister Potato Weevil. Remember, Warlock, as you walk your way through the highways and byways of life’s rich and fulsome path, to have love and reverence for all living things.” “Nanny says that wivving fings is fit onwy to be gwound under my heels, Mr. Fwancis,” said little Warlock, stroking Brother Slug, and then wiping his hand conscientiously on his Kermit the Frog overall.]
Vicki and Jim got the permission to being adapting it as a musical in 2013.
Vicki and Jim on it a couple of years ‘fumbling about’, took it as far as they could and decided to bring another person into it: Jay-James Moody
In 2015, Jay James-Moody joined the collaboration initially as a dramaturge and directorial eye, eventually evolving into co-book writer. Vicki, James and Jay have continued to evolve through countless more revisions and a number of private development readings with the support, time and talent of numerous wonderful Australian performers testing the material.
In November 2017, the musical was presented in its then-current form and entirety for the first time before an audience of over 500 eager attendees. The cast included Luke Joslin, Lachlan O’Brien, Nancye Hayes, Barry Quin, Brett O’Neill, Lauren McKenna, Nicholas Craddock, Paul Capsis, Rob Johnson, Amy Lehpamer, Debora Krizak, Blake Erickson, Nat Jobe, Ana Maria Belo, Jordan Hare, Bella Thomas, Anthony Abrakmanov and Samson Hyland.
Following a rapturous response to this reading it continued to be refined and developed.
In 2019, ten days before the show came out they did their last presentation, since then they’ve been to London and shown a videotape of that workshop to Gaiman and Rob Wilkins which was ‘a pretty heartstopping experience’.
Differences between the musical and the book
The ending of the musical is a bit different.
It opens with the burning of Agnes Nutter and Aziraphale and Crowley are introduced there.
Act One ends with them ‘essentially breaking up’ because of a huge argument and they dissolve their friendship, Act Two starts with the first time they meet.
The Future?
What is the future for the musical: in 2021 they said that they need to work on some things and then they hope to do another run, initially in Australia.
There will be a CD of the soundtrack available when the show is produced in it’s full version.
In 2024 on insta they said that it is in "complicated process of rights to stage Good Omens" and "We appreciate your support and patience of the progress or seeming lack therof, of Good Omens the musical but we assure you, we will bring you the show in the next few years."

I witnessed All One Thingism in the flesh in Atlanta while reporting on the “Stop Cop City” saga. What began as a very specific protest against the construction of an expensive new public safety facility in a Georgia forest by environmentalists, police, and prison abolitionists got subsumed into “Free Palestine.” After October 7, anarchists marching in the streets of Atlanta increasingly donned keffiyehs, waved Palestinian flags, and held signs that said: “From Atlanta to Palestine” (which I believe is a fairly big 6,400-mile line).
There’s no better embodiment of this trend than James “Fergie” Chambers, the wealthy tattooed Left-wing heir in Atlanta. Last summer, Chambers helped bankroll the Stop Cop City movement with millions from his Cox family fortune and attended protests in person. Then, in December, he announced he was converting to Islam. He’s currently living in Tunisia and directing his big bucks into anti-Zionism causes.
And lest you think it’s just blue-haired college baristas with these views, consider the author with the worst book title of all time who recently posted among the most despicable Tweets of all time. That would be courtesy of Malcolm Harris, the author of S--- Is F---ed Up and Bulls--- and veritable Napoleon Dynamite of communist writers.
Earlier this month on X, Harris responded to CNN’s Jake Tapper’s report that the Pennsylvania synagogue he had bar mitzphaed at had been vandalised with a swastika. Harris didn’t condemn the anti-Semitic graffiti but indirectly praised it. The meaning of the Nazi symbol had been reversed from bad to good, Harris said, “from a Nazi threat to a condemnation of genocide.”
America is evil, Hamas is good, and swastikas are now woke. This is your brain on All One Thingism.

On November 4th 1864 Robert Stodart Lorimer was born.
The son of a law professor, Lorimer was educated in Edinburgh, but left university before graduating in 1884, to join the office of the Scottish Revivalist architect Robert Rowand Anderson. In 1889, he moved to London, where a spell working for G. F. Bodley helped shape his Gothic style and fired him with enthusiasm for the Arts-and- Crafts Movement. Here, he developed his commitment to the unity of art and nature in architecture, and his delight in materials and the richness of textiles and colour. Among his friends in London were young architect Walter Tapper and fellow Scottish architects J. J. Stevenson and James MacLaren. After the latter’s untimely death, Lorimer worked for his successors, Dunn and Watson, their influence left a strong impression on Lorimer, as seen in his roughcast cottages at Colinton, and other small houses in the Lothians of the 1890.
His first big commission, from 1891, was the restoration of Earlshall in Fife. In reviving this tower house as the atmospheric setting for R. W. Mackenzie’s collections, Lorimer was greatly influenced by his boyhood experiences at Kellie Castle, which his father had sensitively repaired as a summer home. At Earlshall, Lorimer designed fittings, furniture and a garden inspired by that at Edzell, all in harmony with the spirit of the old house.
He went on to do many more tactful restorations, his favourite being Balmanno, Perthshire (1921), with furniture and an elaborate compartmented garden also to his design. Lorimer’s earliest new houses were English (such as the Lutyens-like High Barn at Godalming), and in Scotland, too, early works such as Wayside in St Andrews (1901) absorbed English influences. But, in 1903, he started work on Rowallan in Ayrshire, the first of three country houses that gave full expression to his love of the Picturesque forms and romantic qualities of 16th-century Scottish architecture. Ardkinglas (1906) and Formakin in Renfrewshire (1914) followed, the architecture of the latter echoed by its outstanding group of ancillary buildings, which incorporate playful carved monkeys and humorous inscriptions. Lorimer’s gate lodges were his ‘happiest inventions,’ wrote Hussey.
As seen in the pics, the twin-turreted gate lodges at Formakin are characteristic, with their ogee roofs echoed by the garden pavilion, another favourite structure of Lorimer’s.
By 1919, Lorimer had been appointed an official architect to the Imperial War Graves Commission, and in this capacity designed over 300 memorials in villages, towns, and schools in Scotland and England as well as cemeteries in Greece, Macedonia, Italy and Egypt. The largest, and perhaps the best known of these commissions, was the Scottish National War Memorial, Edinburgh Castle.
My favourite memorial designed by Lorimer is the one in Paisley, which looks more like a memorial to the old style wars during the struggle for Independence, and reminds me of Pilkington's statue of The Bruce at Bannockburn, it depicts soldiers from the western front accompanied by a medieval knight on horseback and having noticed he did some work with Pilkington I can see where the influences came from.
It wasn’t all simple designs for Lorimer, one of his most famous work was the Thistle Chapel in St Giles, Edinburgh, the other pic is a memorial to Lorimer, also in St Giles.
Sir Robert Lorimer died at 12 Randolph Crescent, Edinburgh in 1929. He was cremated at the newly opened Warriston Crematorium and his ashes were thereafter buried with his parents at Newburn in rural south-east Fife, close to the family home of Kellie Castle. The grave (which he had designed himself at the death of his father) lies in the extreme south-west corner of this tiny and very remote churchyard, overlooking rural Fife towards the Firth of Forth, as seen in the last two photos.

The diagnosis has been swift. Lord Darzi has taken just nine weeks to deliver his report on the state of the NHS. The treatment is likely to take far longer and be more painful.
Wes Streeting’s first major act as health secretary was to appoint the eminent surgeon, nicknamed Robo Doc for his use of robots in operations, to reveal “hard truths” about the NHS in England. What Darzi concludes is expected by many to form the foundation of Labour’s plans for treating a population that is getting older and sicker – without bankrupting the nation.
Existing NHS plans were drawn up under Theresa May’s government and published before Covid magnified its problems. Waiting lists were growing before March 2020, but ballooned to nearly 8m after the pandemic hit, hospitals are crumbling, and long-term sickness has soared, with 2.8 million people out of the workforce, 900,000 more than in 2019.
But perhaps the biggest challenge is that there are now 11 million over‑65s in the UK, up from 9.2 million in 2011, and older people are more likely to need care. A report today from consultancy Carnall Farrar (CF), warns that if demand continues to grow at its current rate, by 2029 the NHS will need to do 50% more work than it does now.
Even if Labour meets its pledge to deliver another 40,000 appointments a week, it will not be enough to stop waiting lists lengthening.
“The NHS needs reform, not just ever more activity,” said NHS Confederation chief executive Matthew Taylor. “This means shifting to earlier, more preventative services – including primary and community care – to slow the rise in demand. It will also mean boosting productivity through modern technology and buildings and equipment fit for the 21st century.”
But doing that means spending money. A survey by NHS Providers, which represents hospital leaders, finds that 44% believe they do not have enough money to run their current services. Some are reducing staff and are “even having to consider scaling back services”.
Sir Julian Hartley, chief executive of NHS Providers, said: “This survey sets out the daunting financial pressure facing the NHS right now. Trust leaders are facing some really difficult decisions.”
Trusts are trying to get staff to work longer by paying time-and-a-half for weekend and evening shifts, and leaders hope digital tools such as the controversial Federated Data Platform which shares patient information, will help. But that “can only go so far without significant strategic investment in infrastructure and digital technologies,” Hartley said.
“There are real deep-seated worries about NHS funding and how those pressures are intensifying. It’s never been tougher. But they’re also showing how the right support and leadership can make a difference.”
Rachel Reeves may take some convincing to find extra cash to fund an NHS transformation. There will be collective crossed fingers this week that she and Keir Starmer are persuaded by Darzi’s report.

Variant - New OC!
(CW: Object head OC. Over-use of Purple! Nothing really explicit, don’t worry, he’s in a suit. Lore rant?)
Tumblr media
I love him. He’s an OC for an RP I’m doing with my friends, and I just wanted to share him with yall. Yes, I stole the glowing claws from Vox, and Yes, I don’t regret it. This is actually for CrytterSpace on Roblox! (I don’t play, but my friends loved the concept and I wanted to join in the RP) I absolutely adore him, and I love him sm. His (Basic) lore is that he’s the DJ in the area, and he’s friends with a few other of me and my friend’s OC’s. We headcannon that there is a section (Hidden) for adults, and I have another OC who is a lantern head named Tapper, who is the bartender. Variant and Tapper tend to chat a lot, they’re besties in the Mall Space (Or whatever it’s called). He keeps music, notes, and papers in his hat (as one can see) . He’s like the Gordon Ramsey of personality switches. As in, he’s very ‘aggressive’ towards adults if they touch his setup, or do anything wrong to Tapper. But for the kiddos? He’s the sweetest thing ever. Break his stuff? He can buy more. Kids delete his work? He can do it again. His claws feel as tough as gemstones, and they tend to emit music based on his mood. I know yall can see that the details on him are gradients, and that’s because they flow along, like polymer opal (Search it up!) He and Tapper were both ‘made’ by another one of my OC’s, Chronos. Basically, I loved Bezel’s design from Chikin’ Nugget and I liked it so much that I took it. Chronos does not act like Bezel though, don’t worry! I might do more of my OC’s, I have… A few. Chronos, the Co-Director of the Mall along with Flower, who’s an Analog Clock. Axel, the gay Crystal Head (My friends lovingly call him the James Charles of CrytterSpace). Tapper, the bartending Latern Head (Yes he’s modled after Husk. Fight me). And Cosmo; who is actually from a FNAF Security Breach roleplay as one of the daycare attendants; but I hc that Chronos and her are intertwined because the Clock Head can traverse universes. Cosmo is based after a cosmic mushroom. I actually have a drawing of Cosmo, although it’s old- I’ll put up a post to see what I should do. (Not including Chronos, because guys. Just search up Bezel.)

Are bands dead? How solo stars took over the charts Pop was once all about four guys and their instruments. Now that gang mentality has been blown away by tech-savvy individualsWhen David Crosby helped found the Byrds, the idea of being in a band like the Beatles was intoxicating. The musician, who died last week, and his bandmates were so obsessed with the Beatles that they watched A Hard Day’s Night and went straight out to buy the same instruments.A modern-day Crosby would be well advised not to bother – bands are almost entirely absent from the music charts. Only four new songs by groups made it into the official Top 100 singles of last year, which was dominated by solo acts and a smattering of classics by the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Arctic Monkeys. Want to hear about somethin' oddly specific that weirdly strikes me as interesting? The first 2 lines of Pacer's patient record
"First Name: Pacer Last Name: Would not give/Doesn't know"
It implies The Followers believe everyone must have a last name. That is unusual, right? Like, we're 204 years after the bombs fell. Why would everyone in Freeside have a last name?
In fact, let's look at every Freeside character who ain't in the Followers or explicitly an NCR Citizen for a second. Single names will be red and first name last name will be blue (cases I consider unusual will be purple and we will go over them after the list). Mostly alphabetical.
Caleb McCaffery, Dixon, Roy, Wayne and Farris, Francine and James Garret, Genaro, Grecks, Hadrian, The King, Max and Stacey, Mick and Ralph, Mister Soren, Old Ben, Orris, Pacer, Rotface, Santiago, Sergio and Tapper.
The Unusual cases.
Hadrian. Might not be a Freeside local, but... I'm gonna put him in red.
The King, 100% not his birthname, but certainly isn't a first and last name deal. He's the one unusual case I have no clue on.
Mister Soren. The 'Mister' implies it's a last name with a probable first name, but I don't even think this bloke's a Freeside Local anyway.
Old Ben. Y'know, I'm gonna actually put Ben in the red camp, the 'Old' is clearly just a descriptor.
Rotface. Should probably be red. There's no indication of Rotface's past or when he became a Ghoul. For all we know he could've been a pre-war man with really mean parents
Santiago. Probably red, but he says "I do the Santiago act to get out of paying for services every once in a while." which makes it unclear if Santiago is his real name or he picked it out because it flows well for his 'act'.
Tapper. I'm putting him in red. Either it's a nickname or he's a funny man. "Hey, King, can I run the water pump?" feels like nominative determinism.
So that's... 18 single-names and 3 first name and last name Locals (all 3 being Atomic Wrangler people, weirdly). Almost all the first name and last name people in Freeside are of the NCR or Followers.
I dunno, I just find it weird that The Followers would be assumin' last names rather than people just becoming mononymous. It seems like the Locals for the most part don't care about last names and it don't feel like that'd be unusual. There's always been characters with single names in Fallout, afterall.

Fernweh Saga Headcanons.
This is mainly about my MC, Sparrow, but also includes dynamics and things with Fernweh characters. Sparrow is my MC, the others (James, Reese, Silas, Beckett, Mal, ect ect) and The Fernweh Saga belong to @lacunafiction . Go buy the book rn.
Just silly headcanons/things from before the book takes place.
Sparrow likes to make "The Birds and the Bees" jokes around Beckett.
In school was pobably that kid with undiagnosed ADHD that was rather good in class without trying (Too Reese's annoyance)
Left Fernweh and moved to a big city, similar to NY or something, just big and busy, loves it, grew only more impulsive and reckless.
Hates wearing ties, always wants to undo Reese's and James ties for shits and giggles, sometimes tugs on their ties to bring them to his eye level (definitely a flirty thing and not because he's 5'4 and their 6').
Worked incredibly hard to buy his own guitar and drumset, heavily misses his instrument while stuck in Fernweh.
Use to play a classic violin, saw an eletric violin once, brought it and went completely rock, still knows how to play the classic though.
Finger drummer, foot tapper, cannot sit still, unfocused, definitely ADHD.
Definitely thought him and Reese were friends as kids, even if Reese didn't, he heavily enjoyed the rivalry, bringing out his competitive (and sometimes combative) nature.
Tried to convince Beckett to join him in parkour/abandoned houses/other stupid shit, to Beckett's horror, who occasionally joined Sparrow durring his reckless shit to keep an eye on him.
When Sparrow was a kid and got in arguments with his parents, has 'ranaway' a few times to Silas/Mrs Dorren's house for like an hour, his parents watched him go there.
Always waved/yelled a greeting to Silas when he saw him on the porch as neighbors, wouldn't stop waving untill Silas would say something back.
Wants a motorbike, has only grown into a need when he saw Mal's motorbike, really wants to take it for a spin.
James and Reese can just, pick up their short, feral boyfriend, James could probably one arm Sparrow and throw him over his shoulder, Reese encourages this.
Sparrow dyes his own hair, it took a few tries to get it right.
Likes to (affectionately) bite people he cares about. Especially their shoulders. Sometimes lacks self control to stop, but when he does manage to stop himself he'll stare at their shoulder or bite his own arm without explanation, this is something both James and Beckett are well aware of.
Sparrow actually prefers energy drinks over coffee, tea, ect.
Sparrow can't cook, usually brought takeaways, sometimes forgets to eat for an entire day, cue Beckett dragging Sparrow to his home so he'll eat something that wasn't 2 minute noodles, ect.
