HAPPY 2025 TO ALL + MY SONG OF THE WEEK “Precious Gem” https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/precious-gem —A song for my daughter Jade, written long ago as a prayer that she would have a good life. My lyrics are a refraction on the story of the Christ child and the miraculous gift that comes with birth. On Christmas I am drawn to study my non-material blessings, the gifts of having a remarkable life and witnessing the lives of others who’ve been redeemed from ruin, done well, committed kind and noble deeds, and other examples that can’t be measured with a price tag. Speaking for most parents I know, we parents were cluelessly young, appointed with raising children without an instruction manual (other than scriptures, a few psych books, instinct, and random pointers from elders). Parents can be terrorized by the worry that we will fail our children, but we do the work anyway and hope and pray our kids turn out and get the best opportunities they can in this crazy world. With this song I left that in God’s hands, and I must say Jade exceeded all expectations. My daughter is applauded by my peers and anyone who meets her. This song may have been intended as a gift but taking stock of Jade’s accomplishments as a woman, wife, and mother is, for me, a gift beyond measure to behold, thanks be to God. https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/precious-gem #gem #precious #jade #jadewalton #jadecblair #johnnyjblair #singersongwriter #prayer #christmas #jesuschrist #Bethlehem #scriptures #god #gift #singeratlarge #williamsport #pennsylvania #sanfrancisco

Ted Lasso S3 Thoughts!
I want to talk about my overall thoughts on Season 3 before the finale comes out, because I’m sure I’ll have a lot to say about that! So let’s just get right into it. A lot of plot points and storylines felt like 1-off, little set ‘em up knock ‘em down types of things, as opposed to full arcs that carried a clear theme throughout the season. A big part of this is the focus being on such a wide variety of characters, and having to cover so many stories at once. This led to Ted being sidelined a bit? Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a huge part of the show, and had some great moments this season, but there was still a clear shift from previous seasons. In some ways I think this made a lot of sense- the team is becoming more like a family, we’re getting to know everyone and understand their individual stories more. While I like that idea, the lack of consistency when it came to Ted’s screen time was noticeable (he’s kind of the beating heart of the show). Some of the strongest episodes were ones where he was at the forefront. This whole season just felt a little less cohesive, with so many different things going on. Some of the extended arcs, like Colin’s and Nate’s were good, though. And as I’ve seen a number of other people pointing out, it kind of felt like they were just trying to cram as many hot topics into the season as they could, because they couldn’t really afford to focus on that many specific characters having longer arcs (which again, is why many of the characters had 1-2 episode arcs so that the focus could then be shifted to someone else). It starts to seem a bit like they were running out of ideas, so I’m glad they’re ending the show with intention instead of dragging it out. Another part of this issue (something that @king-author pointed out really well), is that we didn’t get to witness a lot of the important, impactful moments (particularly concerning Nate’s storyline). I think this season would’ve been a lot better (not that it was bad, just a bit of a step down), if they had chosen to focus on these bigger storylines and developing particular characters, as opposed to creating a bunch of random problems to keep everyone involved.
One particular storyline I’ve got issues with- I didn’t really see a point to the whole Keeley/Roy/Jack thing? Roy and Keeley’s breakup never really made all that much sense in the first place, but I understand the benefit of having Keeley go solo for a while. But then why bring Jack into the mix? It was pretty clear that Roy and Keeley were going to get back together, and so I didn’t really see any point to their relationship beyond an excuse to give Keeley more screen time (which I think could’ve been used in better ways).
So overall, this season has been kind of hit and miss. Since I talked about some of the misses already, let’s go over some of the hits! This last episode was absolute fantastic, between Roy and Keeley being back together, Ted having impactful tear-jerker moments, and Jamie having a moving arc once again, it felt like old times. Rebecca had some great moments as well recently, particularly her speech and everything with Rupert in Episode 10. She’s such a wonderful character, and that was a fantastic way to end her multi-season arc with Rupert. I also loved Jade! She and Nate have a fantastic dynamic, I really like the impact she’s had on him, she’s just a perfect addition to the show. And I think this goes without saying, but so many of the characters remain totally delightful (Sam, Jamie, Dani, Will, etc). This show is still wildly wholesome, sweet, and entertaining. And judging from the last few episodes, they’re going out strong! I have no doubt that the finale will be fantastic.
Anyways, I didn’t expect this review to be this long! If anyone actually made it this far, thanks for reading, and let me know what you think! Do you agree, and what did you like/dislike about this season?

Book recs: fairies
Fey, fae, fairies, faeries - pick your spelling, the fair folk are an undeniably popular trope in fantasy, and can be portrayed in wildly different ways, from cute pixies, to terrifying creatures of lore, to handsome and romantic beings of fairy tales. This list is a wild mix, all of them featuring fae or fae-like beings as central characters.
Tumblr media
For more details on the books, continue under the readmore. Titles marked with * are my personal favorites. And as always, feel free to share your own recs in the notes!
If you want more book recs, check out my masterpost of rec lists!

Borderline (The Arcadia Project trilogy) by Mishell Baker*
Urban fantasy mystery. A year after a failed suicide attempt that cost her both her legs and her film-making career, Millie is recruited by a secretive organisation that works to control traffic to and from Arcadia, the land of faries, and given the assignment of tracking down a missing nobleman of the Seelie Court in Hollywood. Bisexual main character, excellent if you like me enjoy reading about deeply messy women.
Phaeton by Rachel Sharp*
Jack and Rosie, couple and hackers, just got their hands on a brand new device: the phaeton, a phone which, despite its crappy parts, is seemingly capable of doing the impossible. Utilizing their skills, they quickly realize it works not through technology, but by being remotely controlled by a living creature - a fae. This revelation throws them into a war between the fae of old and a new type of fae, able to withstand iron and looking to exploit their fellows through this advantage.
Rosemary and Rue (October Daye series) by Seanan Mcguire
Urban fantasy mystery. October "Toby" Daye is a changeling, half human and half fae, who, after having been burned by both sides of her heritage, has retreated to a "normal" life, away from the faerie world. But the murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back in, a curse forcing her to take on the mystery and find the murderer. While I found the first book a bit weak, the series does get better from there on, with engaging characters and interesting mysteries.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knife (Faerie Rebels trilogy) by R.J. Anderson
Young adult. Young Knife is a Hunter, providing for a group of faeries living inside an oak, their population slowly dying. Long ago, their people lost almost all their magic, and without it they are doomed. But Knife isn't one to give up; recruiting the help of Paul, a human boy living nearby the faery oak, she is set on discovering the secret of - and solution to - her people's missing magic.
Among Others by Jo Walton
Magical realism. Growing up with a half-crazed mother, Morwenna found solace in two places: reading science fiction novels, and playing with the spirits of Wales alongside her twin sister. But after their mother tried to twist the spirits to her own whims with deadly consequences, Mori is sent off alone to private school, where she attempts to come to terms with what happened. This is less "teen girl on big adventure" and more "what happens after the trauma of adventure", with it being partly left up to the reader whether the fantastical elements are read as real or not.
Gossamer Axe by Gael Baudino
Centuries ago in Ireland, Chairiste Ní Cummen was trained in the secrets of music and magic. But her pride was her downfall, trapping her and her lover in the land of the Sidh. Only Chairiste escaped, hoping to one day win her lover's freedom in musical battle with the fairy that holds her captive. Now she is Christa Cruitare, harp teacher in the modern world and all but resigned to her loss. Until she comes across a great new music: heavy metal. Taking one last chance to win her lover's freedom, Christa sets out to gather other skilled musicians and bring them with her in her final battle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Jaded Grove by Anela Deen
After years of war, pixie soldier Simith is tired of bloodshed and secretly sets up a meeting to discuss peace. But he’s betrayed and forced on the run - right through a door to another world. Meanwhile, Jessa is on her way home when she encounters a man about to be killed, and intervenes to save his life. With that simple act, the fate of the two - and that of the war - become interlinked. While I found the general execution of this one a bit weak, the concept and characters are interesting, and it’s a fun take on the portal fantasy genre.
Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeannette Ng
Catherine Helstone's brother Laon has traveled to Arcadia, the dangerous land of the Fae, and has since lost contact with her. Worried sick and desperate for news, Catherine embarks on the perilous journey herself, but on arrival she fins herself isolated and in danger of the Queen of the Fae, who is hard on her brother's heel.
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett*
Historical fantasy. Emily Wilde is a professor who prefers the company of faeries, dangerous but bound to rules she can understand, to that of humans, who she finds inexplicable. Working on her faerie encyclopedia, she travels on a research expedition to the faraway Hrafnsvik, hoping for some solitary months of study. Her hopes are dashed when Wendell Bambleby, rival scholar and possible faerie in hiding, arrives on her doorstep. But Wendell's aggravating presence is far from Emily's only problem, as the Hidden Folk of Hrafnsvik turns out to be far more dangerous than expected.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Watchers by A.M. Shine
Horror. When her car breaks down, Mina tries crossing a forest by foot. As the sun goes down she finds herself lost with something dangerous closing in; at the last second, a woman appears and urges her into a bunker. Inside is a room with a mirrored wall, in which a group of strangers, stranded just like Mina, huddles through the night. Outside in the dark, something malevolent watches them through the glass. Will the group ever be able to escape the forest? While I found the characters somewhat unconvincing, this is a spooky story with fascinating lore.
The Call (Grey Land duology) by Peadar Ó'Guilín
Young adult horror. After having scorned the fae, Nessa's nation has been cursed: every teenager will, at some point, be called into the Grey Land for 3 minutes and 4 seconds before being returned. 9 out of 10 are returned dead. Trying to keep their country alive, children are sent off to training schools to prepare them and better their chances of survival. Her legs having been twisted by polio at a young age, Nessa's chances are worse than most, but she is determined to make it through her call alive.
The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher*
Horror. When her grandmother dies, Mouse takes on the task of clearing out the old woman's home. But as she arrives at her grandmother's home she realizes her mistake: her grandmother was a hoarder, and Mouse has her work cut out for her. As if this wasn't bad enough, among the things left behind Mouse finds her step-grandfather's journal, describing various horrifying encounters. All nonsense, Mouse, assumes - until she starts making her own encounters in the dark forest surrounding the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Faebound (Faebound series) by Saara El-Arifi
Elven sisters Yeeren and Lettle have grown up in the shadow of a forever war, one as a soldier and the other as a diviner and teller of prophecy. But when Yeeren makes a fatal mistake and is exiled, the two leave their familiar world for the first time - and end up with the mythical, and believed extinct, fae. Here they must juggle their own loyalties and hearts with political intrigue as they try to find a way to survive and return to their home. While I didn’t personally dig the romantasy vibes of this and found the elves and fae could’ve been more interesting, if you like epic fantasy with heavy romance, both f/f and f/m, you will probably enjoy it.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik*
Historical fantasy with strong fairytale vibes. Miryem's father is a moneylender, but his inability to collect on debts has left his family on the brink of ruin. Desperate and ruthless, Miryem steps in to take his place, and suddenly the family's luck has turned. But Miryem's reputation of being able to turned silver to gold catches the attention of the Staryk King - dangerous creatures who seem made of ice body, mind and heart. In her schemes to survive the King's demands, Miryem's actions ensnare a local farmer's daughter as well as the new wife of the tsar. As their fates are bound together, the three girls may change their land forever, for better or for worse.
An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
Young adult romance. Isobel is an artist with a particular and dangerous set of clients in the fair folk. The fairies cannot create art on their own, and her portraits are highly coveted. But as she paints a portrait for the autumn prince, Rook, Isobel makes a mistake: she paints human emotion into his eyes. This weakens Rook before the fairy court, and in his fury he spirits Isobel away to stand trial for her crime.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman
In a desperate attempt to win the heart of the beautiful Victoria, Tristran Thorn makes her a promise to fetch the falling star they both saw crash one night. But to do so, he must enter the land of Faerie, where nothing is as it seems, least of all the fallen star, who isn't very keen on being given away as a gift.
Guardian of the Dead by Karen Healey*
Young adult. Ellie cares mostly about hanging out with her friend Kevin and pining after her crush Mark, but when a string of grisly murders - all the victims missing their eyes - starts taking place in her town, it’s the start of something ancient and dangerous, as vengeful fairies battle for immortality. Set in New Zeeland and based on Māori mythology.
Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower by Tamsyn Muir
Novella. When Floralinda was first locked in a tower by a witch, princes kept coming to try and save her. But none of them made it past the dragon on the first floor, let alone the monsters after it, and now the supply of willing princes seems to have dried up. Starting to grow desperate, Floralinda captures and makes a deal with a small fairy for it to assist her in escaping the tower.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A note: all these Holly Black books are set in the same universe and do on occasion cross over, but can be read independently.
Tithe (Modern Faerie Tales trilogy) by Holly Black
Young adult. Sixteen-year-old Kade, used to traveling around with her mother's rock band, has just found herself back in her childhood home town. Here she meets up with old acquaintances - not all of them human. For Kade has always been able to see the faeries invisible to most humans. Among them is a handsome faerie knight she finds injured in the woods and chooses to help. In doing this, she becomes embroiled in a struggle between two rivaling and highly dangerous faerie courts.
The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black
Young adult. Siblings Hazel and Ben live in Fairfold, a strange town where people leave out milk for the fairies and tourists come to look at a fairy prince locked in an enchanted sleep in a glass coffin in the woods. But things have been getting even stranger in Fairfold; the fair folk are getting more agressive, and the glass coffin in the woods gets shattered. As unrest spreads throughout the town, Hazel keeps a secret that may unravel it all.
The Cruel Prince (The Folk of The Air trilogy) by Holly Black
Young adult. When Jude was seven, her parent's were murdered by a spurned faerie lover of her mother's, while she and her sisters were stolen away to be raised at the High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong in this dangerous land. Her struggle is made all the harder by Cardan, handsome faerie prince with a knack for pestering her. As she strives for some semblance of power in this dangerous realm, Jude gets involved with a conspiracy that may change Faerie forever.
Bonus AKA I haven't read these yet but they seem really cool
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sinners (The Fae Feast series) by Eka Waterfield
Niavin isn't just a sidh Lord, he's also a drug lord, providing the fae's drug of choice: toxic human pollution.
Lore of the Wilds by Analeigh Sbrana
Romantasy. Lore Alemeyu's village is under ruthless Fae rule, trapped within a forested prison. To protect her village, Lore makes a deal with a Fae lord to organize an enchanted library which only a human can enter.
Black Sun Rising (The Coldfire trilogy) by C.S. Friedman
On a planet far away, a priest, an adept, a sorcerer, and an apprentice are drawn together to fight against the evil fae which preys upon humanity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That Self-Same Metal (Forge & Fracture Saga) by Brittany N. Williams
Young adult historical fantasy. Joan Sands works as a stagehand for William Shakespeare's acting company. Secretly, she’s also blessed by the Orisha with magical powers, and the ability to see Fae. And lately, the Fae are up to something...
Euphoria Kids by Alison Evans
Three teens - one cursed to sometimes be invisible, one who grew from a seed in the ground, and one who has yet to find his real name - find themselves sharing magic and the ability to speak with dryads and fae.
The Wind City by Simmer Wigmore
Old forces are gathering in Wellington, as the displaced iwi atua of legend reappear and decide to make the city their home, and not all of them mean well.
Honorary mentions AKA these didn't really work for me but maybe you guys will like them: Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, Faerie Tale by Raymond E. Feist, Malice by Heather Walter, Poison Kiss by Ana Mardoll, Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

SONG OF THE WEEK: “I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad” https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/ive-been-working-on-the-railroad ...Initially recorded for a lo-fi family "Christmas album," this track (pun?) was arranged and sung by then-4 year old Jade C. Blair. Many of us learned this as a kid's folk tune, but it's actually as corpus of songs from the mid-19th century, with a melody inspired by von Suppé's POET & PEASANT OVERTURE. The song was first published in 1894 as "The Levee Song, performed in a minstrel style with indelicate lyrics about working on the levee AND the railroad AND a disgraceful woman named Grace. The "Dinah" section was an amendment from a British pub song and echoed E.P. Christy's "Goodnight Ladies” ("Dinah" was also Civil War slang for a busy woman). In the 20th Century the song was amended countless times with different lyrics (including Japanese) to accommodate sports events and more (Pete Seeger did a risqué version in the 1950s). By the time Jade and I got to it, the song felt like good clean fun, running on the train tracks of time.

Hello. I've already read the Kingston Cycle, Half a Soul and I'm about to finish the Stariel books. Do you have more recommendations? Thank you in advance.
Oh absolutely!
A Matter of Magic, by Patricia C. Wrede (for cross-country Regency romps, rogues, magicians, spies, and Ladies of Quality)
A Marvellous Light, by Freya Marske (for murder and mystery and secret Edwardian wizardry, romance, grand old houses and creepy curses)
Spellbound, by Allie Therin (for forbidden love, found family, and frightening magic in 1920s New York)
Shades of Milk and Honey, by Mary Robinette Kowal (for frothy and impeccably evocative Regency magic)
Sorcerer to the Crown, by Zen Cho (for schemes both magical and mundane and the world of fairy crossing into the world of the tonne)
To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis (for laugh-out-loud time travel shenanigans and questionable Victorian aesthetic choices)
Soulless, by Gail Carriger (for vampire assassins, werewolf aristocrats, interrupted tea time, and other terrible inconveniences which may beset a young lady)
A little darker:
The Magpie Lord, by KJ Charles (for semi-secret magical society, creepy family estate, steamy romance all in an Extremely Victorian Gothic setting)
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke (clever and deeply atmospheric tour of a magical 19th century England, but definitely not romance)
Salt Magic, Skin Magic, by Lee Welch (for curses and magical bonds and frightening fairies)
Widdershins, by Jordan L Hawk (for Gilded Age mystery and romance featuring Lovecraftian horror and humor)
More fantasy:
Uprooted, by Naomi Novik (for fairytale magic and whimsy, adventure and romance and creepy trees)
Seducing the Sorcerer, by Lee Welch (for wizard fashion, romance and humor and whimsical magic)
Stardust, by Neil Gaiman (for wild romps in the fairyland next door, alternately humorous and haunting)
More historical:
The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting by KJ Charles (for saucy Regency romance and determined social scheming)
Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons (for dry humor, wacky hijinx, and extended family shenanigans)
Hither Page or The Missing Page by Cat Sebastian (village and manor house mysteries respectively, featuring lots of queer romance and found family with a dash of jaded post-war espionage)
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith (for yearning and laughs and first love and an eccentric family living in an increasingly run down castle)
A little farther from the brief, but might be worth checking out On Vibes:
The Left Handed Booksellers of London, by Garth Nix
The Chronicles of Chrestomanci, by Diana Wynne Jones
His Majesty's Dragon, by Naomi Novik (more Regency fantasy, but full on Age of Sail adventure rather than comedy of manners, romance, or secret magic)
Among Others, by Jo Walton
Arabella of Mars, by David D. Levine
A Natural History of Dragons, by Marie Brennan
It also sounds like a Georgette Heyer or Jeeves and Wooster binge would be really fun right now!

Hamlet is the Shakespearean character that many actors long to play. Jade Anouka is one of those actors. She talks to past Hamlets– Sir Derek Jacobi, Adrian Lester, Samuel West and Tessa Parr – about the challenges in approaching the part.
And she hears the fabled story of The Red Book, a red-bound copy of the play, begun by the actor Sir Johnston Forbes-Robinson, who passed the book on to a successive actor on the condition that in turn they passed it onto the finest Hamlet of the next generation. Derek Jacobi tells the story of receiving it from Peter O’Toole and passing it on to Kenneth Branagh, who in turn passed it on to Tom Hiddleston. Jade wonders where the book might go next.
Jade also explores why Hamlet as a part holds such fascination for actors. Here’s the rub - no one can tell you what Hamlet is about. A revenge tragedy, an Oedipal drama, a political betrayal, a study of insanity, the portrait of a fatally flawed genius. Each actor makes it his own but has to deal with the weight of its history.
Derek Jacobi tells the story of performing ‘To be or not to be’ only to hear the voice of Sir Winston Churchill joining in from the front row. Adrian Lester describes how he whispered each famous speech to himself in an attempt to get back to the essence of the language.
And each generation interprets Hamlet as an expression of their own time. Professor Michael Dobson from the Shakespeare Institute describes a production he saw in Ukraine in a cellar now used as a bomb shelter.

1951 – Michael Rupert, born in Denver, Colorado, is an American actor, singer, director and composer. Rupert originated the role of "Marvin" in the William Finn musicals March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland.
Rupert made his Broadway debut in 1968 in Kander and Ebb's The Happy Time as the young Bibi Bonnard, which earned him his first Tony Award nomination, for Featured Actor in a Musical. He returned to California after The Happy Time, and appeared in local theater while in high school.
In 1974, Rupert returned to Broadway as a replacement in the role of Pippin. In 1981, he appeared on Broadway in Shakespeare's Cabaret. He then created the role of Marvin in two William Finn musicals, March of the Falsettos (1981) at the Off-Broadway Playwrights Horizons and Falsettoland (1991). In 1986 he appeared as Oscar in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity,[8] for which he won the 1986 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical.
His television credits include guest roles on series such as My Three Sons, The Waltons, Marcus Welby, M.D. and its legal spin-off Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law, Emergency! and The Partridge Family.
In addition to acting, Rupert has directed several plays and musicals.
Rupert lives in New York City with his life partner, Will Chafin.

1954 – Ang Lee, the Oscar-winning Taiwanese-born director was born today. Lee decided to take on a small-budget, low-profile independent film based on Annie Proulx's Pulitzer Prize-finalist short story originally published in The New Yorker, Brokeback Mountain. In a 2005 article by Robert K. Elder, Lee was quoted as saying, "What do I know about Gay ranch hands in Wyoming?" In spite of the 'straight' director's removal from the subject at hand, Brokeback Mountain showcased Lee's skills in probing depths of the human heart.
Tumblr media
The 2005 movie about the forbidden love between two Wyoming cowboys immediately caught public attention and initiated intense debates. The film was critically acclaimed at major international film festivals and won Lee numerous Best Director and Best Film awards worldwide. In addition, "Brokeback" became a cultural phenomenon and a box office hit. "Brokeback" was nominated for a leading eight Oscars and was the frontrunner for Best Picture heading into the March 5 ceremony, but lost out to Crash, a story about race relations in Los Angeles, in a controversial upset. There was speculation that the film's depiction of homosexuality might have been the reason for that upset, while others speculate that Crash was simply a better movie. Lee said he was disappointed that his film did not win Best Picture, but was honored to win Best Director, becoming the first Asian to ever win the award.
If you're a fan of Brokeback but don't know Ang Lee's other work, we'd recommend his brilliant and touching 1993 film "Wedding Banquet." The film about an interracial Gay couple and the meeting of cultures is a treasure.
He also managed to successfully film Life of Pi, the claustophobic story of a castaway boy and a Bengal tiger togetther adrift in a lifeboat - in widescreen 3D, yet!

1971 – Matthew Williamson is an English fashion designer.
Williamson is openly gay. He counts celebrities such as Cat Deeley, Sienna Miller, Kelis, Jade Jagger and Plum Sykes amongst his friends, but has often been criticised by others in the fashion industry for using them to promote his designs.
He was born in Manchester, England, and studied in Manchester at Loreto College until he was 17. He then moved to London to attend school at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, graduating in 1994.
His eponymous fashion house was founded in February 1997. That same year, Williamson debuted his collection 'Electric Angels' at London Fashion Week. His collections were displayed during New York Fashion week in 2002. His store at 28 Bruton Street, in Mayfair, London, followed in 2004.
In 2005, he launched his own perfume range; the following year he was appointed Creative Director at Emilio Pucci. In 2007, a runway show of his designs was incorporated into the video for Prince's song "Chelsea Rodgers" from his Planet Earth album. In 2007, the Design Museum, London, hosted a restrospective of his work entitled "Matthew Williamson – 10 years in Fashion".
In 2008, Williamson was awarded the "Red Carpet Designer" accolade at the British Fashion Awards where he has also received three nominations for Designer of the Year. In September 2008 Matthew Williamson returned to London full-time to focus fully on his own label's forthcoming ventures and expansion. He made a guest appearance on season 7 of Project Runway. The episode aired on 28 January 2010.
In October 2010 it was announced that Matthew Williamson signed a new licensing deal with MBFG. The deal began a new line – Muse by Matthew Williamson.
His collections are shown twice a year during New York Fashion Week, and they often have an Indian influence, perhaps related to the time Williamson spent working in India for the clothing store Monsoon.

1983 – Josh Strickland is an American singer and actor from Charleston, South Carolina. Strickland appeared on season 2 of Fox TV's American Idol.
He starred as Tarzan in Disney's production of Tarzan on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The production's run ended after some 14 months and Strickland performed the final show along with the rest of the original cast.
In 2009, Strickland became an original cast member of Peepshow in Las Vegas, and is currently still in the cast. He befriended his costar Holly Madison and could be seen regularly in her television reality show Holly's World.
Josh said of his coming out to The Advocate :
I was really tired of people making up their own answers. I'd rather just put it to rest and be myself. Nowadays it really doesn't even matter. You see people coming out all the time, and it makes them stronger and happier. I didn't want to be one of those souls struggling every day to fight who I am. I'm 10 times better just by being out and open about it. It makes my life so much happier. I have no regrets about anything.

1989 – Simon Thwaites a sailor in the Canadian Armed Forces (b.1962) is ousted from the Canadian Navy for being HIV+.
Simon Thwaites was born In Portsmouth, England. At the age of 13, his family immigrated to Canada. He now resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Tumblr media
Simon had served with the Canadian Armed Forces for approximately nine and a half years from June 1980 to 23 October 1989, when he was medically discharged from the CAF for being HIV positive. At the time of his discharge, Simon operated large weapons and electronic surveillance equipment on a variety of warships.
In 1986, Simon had discovered that he was HIV-positive. From May 1986 until November 1987 the progression of his disease was uneventful, yet in the fall of 1986 he was removed from his final qualifying course to become a full Master Corporal and at the same time his security clearance was downgraded. It was only as a result of a tribunal hearing in 1992 that he discovered that this removal was a result of his sexual orientation and not his HIV positive status.
In late October and during November of 1987, he began developing symptoms of HIV, including night sweats and a reduced T-cell count. In March 1988, military doctors conducted a "paper" medical assessment, at which time his medical category was downgraded. As a result, in November 1988 the CAF decided to release Simon, effective 23 October 1989.
In June 1993, after a lengthy inquiry, a human rights tribunal upheld Simon's complaint. It found that the CAF had an obligation to properly assess the risks involved in retaining Simon, including the risks of his going to sea, far from hospital facilities. The military was also required to consider various options other than outright release, such as transferring him to another military occupation.
The Tribunal held that the military had discriminated against Simon as a result of his disability. It held that the military failed in its legal duty to accommodate Simon's disability and to individually assess his capabilities in the context of the risk that he potentially posed to himself and others. It also held that the increased risk posed by retaining a disabled person in the Forces had to be more than a minimal risk before the Forces could justify outright dismissal.
As part of its award, the Tribunal ordered the military to pay back wages as well as some future amounts that would have been owing to Simon had he been retained in the CAF. The Tribunal awarded the maximum amount possible for hurt feelings and its total compensation totalled more than $160,000. It also awarded his legal and actuarial expenses.
The military appealed this decision. It also applied to the Federal Court for an interim order allowing it to withhold payment to Simon pending the outcome of the appeal. In September 1993, the Federal Court refused to grant the interim order, saying that Simon "should be allowed to live his remaining days in dignity." In March 1994, the Federal Court dismissed the military's appeal in its entirety.
Simon has over the years has walked his own path. Constantly volunteering with AIDS organizations and being there for people as they died doing Palliative care, and surviving the horrendous early years of AIDS had a profound effect on ones view of the world.
In 2009 after six years of study he became an openly gay-minister as a Reverend of the Spiritualist Church. With the help of his friends he has started up a new church called Angel Hall which welcomes all.
