Xiaohongshu user and figure skater čŠ±ę»‘å°ę˜Ž has uploaded a ton of videos of him doing Yuri!!! on Ice programs! Girls, gays, and theys… this is the one and only Theme of King JJ.
He does match the canon choreo the best he can, although he mostly does double jumps. It hardly matters though! You can see his account here

Why does JJ freak out in the Grand Prix Final?
(I never thought Id write a JJ meta, but here we are)
Breaking down under pressure can happen to everyone if the mental load becomes too much. And to JJ, his first Grand Prix Final without his greatest rival Viktor, almost turns into such a disaster. In this post, I discuss the events leading to his breakdown and explain why even experienced skaters aren’t immune to that.
With six qualifying competitions and one final round with the six best skaters, the Grand Prix of figure skating has the vibe of a deathmatch that takes a toll on the athletes. Athletes that have advanced to the final round are exposed to a heightened pressure that can result in some of them losing their nerve. Being the bronze medallist of last season’s Grand Prix Final, one would expect JJ to be familiar with the situation.
However, there’s a huge difference to last season.
Tumblr media
Viktor has been dominating the men’s field for many seasons. In Sochi, he won his fifth Grand Prix Final gold medal. It was a well-known fact inside the skating community that no skater could get past him without breaking their bodies. In YOI, Viktor has cemented his reign with a sublime combination of technical skill and artistry, subjecting every top male skater to the reality losing to him until he retires.
But then he hung up his skates to become a coach.
Suddenly, the door to top is open. Everyone’s motivation suddenly spikes up. Everyone is vying for Viktor’s title. Most of all Yurio, Chris, Yuuri—and JJ.
JJ’s mindset is defined by his ego which is bigger than the egos of all his rivals combined. As his inner monologue in episode 9 reveals, he regards himself as a king and the rightful heir to Viktor’s throne. Of all the skaters, he’s the one with the least respect for Viktor, not that he respects the other skaters, but whereas Yuris, Chris, and Yuuri regard Viktor as a rival, JJ looks down on him.
In addition to that, JJ is the only skater who won both qualifying events and thus goes into the final as the top contender for the title. Suddenly, dethroning Viktor has turned from a wet dream into a real and likely possibility. Add his own expectations to the expectations of fans and press and you get crushing pressure. However, not even JJ is immune to pressure.
Considering JJ’s age (19), he can’t have competed at the Grand Prix Series very often. Depending on at which age he had his senior debut at the renowned competition and his development (growth spurts, skating skills etc.), he competed in the Grand Prix Final between one and four times before Barcelona.
Since Viktor is struggling with his memory when he introduces the finalists in episode 10, it is possible that Sochi was JJ’s first GPF. However, it could also be a hint that the Canadian isn’t particularly memorable to Viktor. But if my guess is correct, JJ likely approached his first GPF with innocent fearlessness because he is the type who would do that. It’s JJ style.
One year later, JJ enters the GPF knowing how tough the event is and that makes him vulnerable and prone to lose his nerve, especially since he is going into the event as the favourite and in the absence of his greatest rival, ready to take Viktor’s throne for himself. Ironically, that’s JJ style, too.
The Grand Prix Final is a tough competition because the fact that only six skaters per discipline can enter the final round creates pressure and stakes. Unlike in a big event like Worlds or the Olympics, the judges aren’t already tired from assessing twenty skaters or more and have a very keen eye on every athlete, which is often reflected in stricter scores and mistakes being punished harder, especially if the skaters are equal in skill.
Confidence is an important ingredient for building resilience against pressure. Skaters who break in competition often struggle with mental health issues or lack self-esteem. Some cover it up, others wear their heart on their sleeve. There are famous examples in real-life figure skating such as Kevin Aymoz or Amber Glenn who has been open about her past struggles. JJ faltering under pressure might be a sign that his confidence is an act and that he covers his shortcomings up with arrogance.

Today’s translation #979
Pash! 2017/03, Sports journalist's comments about programs
Part 4.
Jean-Jacques Leroy
JJ's 3A in his SP, that we see in episode 8., is the highest and widest jump we see in the show. His spins are very creative and technically on a very high level, as he combines a lot of different positions. It actually happens, even during big international competitions, that the audience clap their hands to the beat of the program music, or sing the lyrics of the songs. It also happens that a performance can get a better score, if it can win over the audience like this.
Otabek Altin
His skating is very careful, but you don't see him preparing for the next element, like 'now I'm going to jump', 'mext, I'm going for a spin!'. To me, Otabek seems to be a very experienced skater with good skating skills, who can perform all his elements as one uninterrupted sequence. He's a very stable skater, so much so that it is hard to believe that he's only 18. His choice of music and costume is also very unique, and because of it, he left a very good impression on me. In addition, the height and width of his jumps are also very good.
Georgi Popovich
The visual side of the character has a very big impact (laugh), but his artistic expression is also on quite a high level. I suspect that the secret behind his artistry is that he can reflect all the emotions that he feels, because of heartbreak he experienced in his private life in his program, in a very honest way. He is not the type of skater, that tries to get a lot of points for jumps.

the menagerie of madness šŸŽŖ
a magical travelling circus hosting some of the most jaw dropping, death defying, and awe-inspiring acts. its performers are beastmen, a rare magical affliction that some are born with, giving them animal characteristics and abilities.
cast away by an unsuspecting society for their oddities, the travelling circus becomes home. a safe haven from the cruelties of the outside world.
welcome to the menagerie of madness, where the lines between illusion, magic, and reality are blurred and nothing is as it seems.
more circus au content & read about the performers under the cut
all beastmen are able to communicate with their animal counterparts. they also have a more beastly form. it is not a full transformation, but their animal characteristics gain more sharpness. elongated claws, sharper fangs, sprouting of feathers/wings, more fur, and the like.
and without further ado, meet the performers
yuri, lion - lion tamer - with his pride of lions, he stuns the crowd with their obedience. is there anyone in the audience brave enough to volunteer to come down to the stage floor and play with the lions?
otabek, crow - trapeze acrobat - up in the canopy of the circus tent perches a silent and dark shadow. but when the spotlights turn upwards, a glittering blue black feathered man leaps into the air, the next hold is too far-- he's going to fall-- he can't possibly make it-- there are no nets to catch him-- but wait ! somehow he flies into the hands of his stunt partners. such derring-do!
chris, snake - contortionist - during his performances the pattern of his tights are almost illusory, his legs appear to almost fuse together to twist and coil into impossible contortions that leaves the audience both sickened and curious.
sara and michele, fish - underwater act - after they've already left, some circus-goers come to realise that the mermaid act did not come out for air, not even once. but how?
jj and isabella, lovebirds - trapeze acrobats - an older couple in their late thirties and adoptive parents to otabek. they taught him how to hone his bird magic and join them on the trapeze. the truest of true lovebirds, they sing-talk to each other a lot. everyone wishes they would shut up. and yet, they love them so.
mila, cat - acrobatics - she can jump through the smallest hoops and complex obstacles, her performances are a display of great agility and balance. her catlike qualities are a magnet to yuri who tries very hard not to be endeared by her antics but he just loves her and her untamable nature.
viktor, silver fox - dancer - see below
yuuri, weasel - dancer - see above
phichit, komodo dragon - fire eater - a fire eating / sword swallowing reptilian. he keeps gerbils and hamsters and guinea pigs as pets, and sometimes? he eats them. oops.
georgi, pigeon - stilt walker - a retired trapeze performer, now a stilt walker that parades through the crowds to welcome them to the show that promises magnificence.
lilia, vulture - ticket master - a meticulous money hoarding creature. fair but stern. she manages the money coming in and out of the circus and keeps everyone fed, happy, and most importantly: in line. she likes to sprinkle powdered animal bones into her pipe for added flavour.
yakov, ram - ring leader - he baa's when he's mad and everyone laughs at him, he has to dig into his pockets for his stash of hickory smoked hay to chew on. it calms him down. it is hard to keep this rowdy bunch under control sometimes. good thing his stubbornness and thick-headedness wins out every single time.
nikolai, bear - civilian - yuri's estranged grandfather comes to watch the shows in secret ... when will he gather the courage to approach and re-unite with his grandson?
