Edge of Desire | Part One
pairings: post defending jacob!andy barber x fem teacher!reader
warnings: none
word count: 1.7k
summary: Reader is doing her best to not let her feelings for her favorite student's dad grow any more than they already have, but it proves difficult when said dad has his eyes on her.
A/N: APT 10 B PART THREE COMING TOMORROW! I REPEAT IT"S FINALLY HAPPENING :) Thank you to everyone for their patience, I appreciate it more than you know.
Tumblr media
“He sure is handsome, that’s for sure.” Your ears perked up as you took a sip of your morning coffee. The teacher’s lounge at Crestview Elementary was about as gossip filled as a middle school locker room, if not more. You peeked over the top of your mug to see two of your colleagues, Samara Timm and Kathy Bridges, staring out the window that overlooked the drive where parent drop off was happening.
You could only assume they were talking about Andy Barber. The hot and single parent of Kacey Barber, one of your kindergarten students.
“There’s conferences tonight, Y/N. Are you excited to have some one-on-one time with Andy?” Samara turned to you, confirming your suspicions. “I can’t wait until Macey is in second grade.”
“Kacey.” You corrected, standing up and walking over to the sink to rinse out your mug. “Her name is Kacey. And I’m as excited to talk to Mr. Barber as I am for all seventeen other parents I’ll be talking to.”
Samara and Kathy both looked a little taken aback by your snarky response but you didn’t care. You and every other teacher in this school knew what Andy had been through. You hated that these women only saw him for his looks. Of course he was good looking, you weren’t going to try and deny it, but after having Kacey in your class for the last six months you’ve come to know him as a wonderful person as well.
Without another word you left them in the lounge, making your way down the hall towards your room. You smiled at some of the older students you had previously throughout the years. It was your favorite part of being a kindergarten teacher was the ability to see your kids grow right in front of you, at least for a couple years.
When you turned the corner to your classroom, your smile grew. Kacey Barber stood at the door with her dad, a shiny red apple looking ginormous in her tiny hands.
“Miss Y/L/N!” She waved eagerly, the apple wavering as it tried to now balance in just one hand.
Kacey was as cute as her dad. She had his piercing blue eyes and rosy complexion. Her hair, brown like his, was always pulled into the cutest pigtails.
“Good morning, Miss Barber,” you laughed, crouching down to her level. “What have you got there?”
“Daddy and I watched this movie last night and all the kids brought their favorite teacher an apple.” She leaned forward and cupped a tiny hand around your ear, her voice now coming out in a tiny whisper. “You’re my all time favorite.”
You chuckled as you copied her motions. “Don’t tell anyone, but you’re my all time favorite too.”
She pulled away giggling.
“I also think she’s trying to get into your good graces so you talk her up at conferences tonight.” Andy’s deep voice vibrated through your body. You glanced up at him from your lowered position. You felt the weight of his stare as his eyes never left yours as they crinkled in amusement.
“No need for bribery for that, Mr. Barber.” You chuckled, attempting to stand up.
Quickly his hand wrapped around your upper arm helping you up. You shot him a grateful look before taking a step back.
“Please call me Andy. I feel like we’ve known each other long enough now.”
“Okay...Andy.” You said tentatively. His smile grew as he opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by his daughter.
“Yeah, daddy. I’m a good girl at school.” Kacey said proudly.
“Oh really? So why does all that change when you get home?” Andy teased, reaching down to lift her easily into his arms.
Kacey gave her father a shocked look which only made him smile more.
“Miss Y/L/N! Trevor put glue in his hair again!” A tiny voice called from inside your classroom.
Fucking Trevor.
“Duty calls.” You sighed. “I will see you tonight for conferences Mr.-“ Andy raised his eyebrow in your direction. “Sorry. Andy.”
“I’ll see you tonight, Miss Y/L/N.”
“Y/N.” You responded.
“Y/N.” You couldn’t help but love the way your name rolled off his tongue. He gave Kacey a quick kiss before sending her off with you.
You took her hand as you walked into the classroom. You were about to walk over to where Trevor was sitting playing with the glue in his hair when you felt a tug on your hand.
“You should marry my daddy.” Kacey said easily.
You let out a tiny cough before shaking your head. “I don’t think I’m going to be marrying anyone any time soon, sweetie.” You said half joking, half serious but she wouldn’t know the difference. “Now do you wanna help me with Trevor?”
You laughed as she made a face but nodded nonetheless.
“Boys are kinda dumb.” She said more to herself than to you.
“Just wait, they get worse.”
- - - - -
You had time to kill before your first conference started. You knew you could start the grading you would inevitably have to do over the weekend but throwing your feet up on the desk and watching an episode of New Girl just seemed like a much better idea.
You let out a laugh as Nick Miller made a very Nick Miller comment, once again boosting your levels of serotonin.
“Should I come back?” You jumped as Andy knocked lightly on the door.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, Mr. Barber. I didn’t even notice the time.” You scrambled to get your feet off the desk and fix yourself up. You could feel your body heat up from embarrassment as Andy just laughed and walked into the classroom.
“If I have to keep telling you to call me Andy, I might need to send you to the principal's office.”
You felt yourself relax at his teasing nature.
“I’m sorry, Andy. I don’t want you to get the wrong impression of...well me I guess.”
“The impression I get from you is that you are a very hardworking, dedicated teacher. One who my daughter absolutely adores.” He said sincerely. “We all need to toss our feet up sometimes. Lord knows I should give it a try.”
“Thank you.” You motioned for him to sit down in the chair across from you.
You wanted to laugh at how his large frame looked in the tiny chair. You hadn’t been able to find a good grown up chair anywhere so you were reduced to using one of the ones from a third grade classroom. Bigger than your chairs in your room but still tiny in comparison to an adult.
“Mind if I just sit on top of one of the desks?” Andy laughed as he tried to get comfortable.
“Please.” The laugh you were holding in finally coming out. “I’m 0-2 right now.”
“Nah. You’re still batting 1000.”
You cleared your throat, trying to hide your blush as you looked down at your notes you had prepared.
“So um, like I said this morning. Kacey is amazing, as you know. She’s so smart for her age and the little social butterfly of the classroom. I think she’s friends with everyone.” You gushed.
Andy’s face glowed with pride. “She never ceases to amaze me.”
“And academically she’s doing great. We have some trouble with math, so I tend to help her a little more one on one with that and that always seems to help.” You ran your finger over the page. “I mean there’s really not much else to say. She’s fantastic and I’ll miss her when the year is over.”
“And she you. She never stops talking about how much fun she had with Miss Y/L/N in the car on the way home.” Andy laughs. “I don’t know if I should be happy she has such an amazing teacher or be nervous I’m not her favorite person in the world. Which I can’t be too upset about, I suppose.”
“And why is that?”
“Well you are pretty great. If I need to come in second place to anyone I’m glad it’s you.” The sincerity in his voice caught you off guard and you once again felt your body getting hot.
“That’s some high praise.” You countered.
“But very well deserved.”
“I already love your daughter, there’s no reason to butter me up. It’s great for my ego but completely unnecessary.” You joked.
Andy let out a boisterous laugh that caused you to laugh too.
“I can keep going if you’d like.” He joked back.
“I’m afraid you’ll run out of material soon. There’s only so many ways you can call me a good teacher.”
“Well I guess we’ll have to get to know each other on a different level.” Andy leaned forward on the desk. “Are you fr-“
“Oops! Sorry!” You and Andy both turned to see Trevor’s parents standing awkwardly at the door. Like their son, Mr. and Mrs. Randall were a little spacey but kind all around. “If you still need to talk we can just wait!”
“No worries, Heather.” Andy waved. He hopped off the desk and you figured he would just walk out but he walked up to you holding out his hand. “It was lovely chatting with you, Y/N. Let’s do it again soon?” He said the last part quietly. You looked down at where his much larger hand was encasing yours.
“Andy...” you glanced past his shoulder at the Randall’s who were making their way towards the two of you. You reluctantly pulled your hand from his grasp.
“Think about it.” He said simply. He chuckled as he tapped his fingers on the apple on your desk before turning around to greet the Randall’s properly. You watched him walk towards the door and looked away quickly when he turned back around to give you a wink.
“My oh my, he is one fine looking man.” Mrs. Randall fanned herself as she giggled like a schoolgirl.
“Heather, please.” Mr. Randall rolled his eyes.
“Oh I’m just looking, Mark.” She scoffed before winking in your direction.
You and me both, Heather.

Here are the US representatives who voted against the US pro-LGBT+ Equality Act
Tumblr media
The US Equality Act is to outlaw discrimination against LGBTQ people in housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and federal funding.
The House of Representatives passed the legislation yesterday, but it is unlikely that the Senate will follow up, given the Republican Party's increasing hostility to queer people. They are currently weaponizing transphobia in an attempt at mobilizing their base.
In the Senate the bill will require at least 10 Republicans to vote with all Democrats to advance past the so-called filibuster.
Metro Weekly has listed the representatives that voted against the law in the House.

I HAD SO MUCH FUN WRITING THIS HOLY CRAP!!! firstly, welcome "bee anon" (bee/avian/hive/bottles) to my account! its lovely to have you here and thank you so much for the request! i hope this adds up to what you imagined and i hope you stick around! :]]
--------------------------
The In-Between. Any entity that normally roamed around there knew the place well. If you visited there, you visited often. Karl regularly roamed around the in between. The only face he saw there was his. Karl’s from different timelines traveled to the In-Between as well, but ever since he had found those ominous books that told him to steer clear of the “alternate Karl’s”, that’s exactly what he did. So seeing a new face there while roaming the brick-white palace startled him.
The stranger didn’t even get the chance to introduce themselves when Karl briskly grabs them by the arm and starts running to the room under the tree.
“Woah-! Wait are you-“
But before the mystery person can finish their sentence, Karl cuts them off as quickly as possible.
“SSHHHH! Please hold on a second, I’ll let you know when you can talk.”
The mystery person nods and stays silent as they make their way under the big tree.
Once they arrive, Karl flops to the ground exhausted from the running.
“It’s the safest down here, no one can see what we’re doing. But that’s besides the point! Who the heck are you and how did you get here?!”
The mystery person slides down against the wall and onto the floor besides him. They think for a second, trying to recall how they had arrived.
“I’m Y/n, I’m a time traveler and somehow I got HERE instead of the place I was planning on going to. I was walking around and I saw a bunch of the alternate versions of you around the place but I figured that if one of them were to- yknow, drag me away and under the tree, that’d be the one I’d need to talk to that isn’t a fake.”
Karl nods in understanding before he realizes.
“Wait- how did you know about the safety room being under the tree? Or the ‘alternate’ me’s not actually being from other realities?”
Y/n looks at Karl with a deadpan expression and leans back into the wall. They swing their arms out in front of them for dramatic effect.
“Well duh, I have an in between! You aren’t the only one, yknow. Did you get a bunch of those creepy, contradicting books from all around the place? The one that told me the useful information was in all caps, and the other one was talking about how great the place is and constantly used smiles. Not the traditional one though, like, it used the brackets instead of the parenthesis.”
Karl shoots up in surprise, they had gotten those too?! He was never aware that there were other time travelers that existed, let alone were able to get into other peoples in between! He nods, eager to ask them questions.
“So, where were you planning on going? You said you didn’t mean to come here, right?”
Y/n nods, remembering where they were trying to go previously.
“Yeah! I forgot the name, but I know that it’s some place underwater. An abandoned city or something. Enough about me though, one of the main reasons we both time travel is to tell stories, right? So tell me about the places you’ve been! Also, what’s your name? You got mine but I never got yours.”
“Ah, right- I’m Karl-!”
Karl turned around and flipped up his hoodie to show his light gray initials embedded onto the white hoodie. Y/n had a long, white robe with vine-like accents on the hems. The ends of the sleeves had Y/n’s initials on them as well.
“Well… the first place I’ve ever visited was this place I like to call….’The Town That Went Mad’! Ever play the video game ‘Town Of Salem’? It was basically that and I was like the host of it, sorta.”
Karl proceeded to explain the different personas and people to Y/n, there were people like Cornelius the Wise, Helga, Miles Memeington, Mayor Jimmy- Helgas husband, Robin the Orphan, Bob (he’s a builder, yknow), Catboy (very deep voice, no one knows why but it’s a strange contrast to the ears and tail. Mutant or furry??), and Jack the Farmer. He explained from how the orphan had tricked the entire town that he was a murderer when he was instead the Jester, to explaining what the word “dunderhead” meant in Helgas context after explaining how she ruthlessly and openly got her husband executed and then soon proceeded to sleep with Bob.
Both of them were crying tears of laughter, listening and recalling their own stories. By the time Karl had finished telling his story, Y/n was on the ground wheezing from how funny they thought the story was.
“And your telling me they all just, DIED?! That’s so anticlimactic, I love it!”
It’s been maybe 3 hours or so of them discussing stories and laughing. As much as these two travel across the fabrics of the universe, they would have never imagined being able to finally tell someone about their travels and experiences!
Y/n then started talking about a Sky Dynasty that lived up in the clouds in a kingdom called The Kingdom Of Synnefa. When they had dropped in, they would have fallen straight through the clouds if a kind man by the name of Galen hadn’t found them hanging off a building ledge for their dear life! Galen let Y/n drop into his wagon and he took them to get Skywalkers, shoes specifically make for walking on clouds.
Y/n had then explained how a very old looking man who looked to be a pig hybrid approached them, asking them if they were new. Apparently the old pig man was the guardian of the Grand Library, saying how he adored the Kingdoms Greek history and fables. The funny part is that his name is Icarus, a very unfortunate demise that Icarus had in the past but apparently that was a sensitive subject for Icarus and he would get very upset if anyone brought it up.
Another 3 hours went by of this time Y/n telling their stories of their travels to The Kingdom Of Synnefa! Both Karl and Y/n were having a wonderful time chatting with one another about both the confusing rivalries between the carnivores and herbivores of the kingdom, as well as how the kingdom was slowly dying due to the mass amounts of pollution damage the “ground dwellers” have been inflicting on The Kingdom Of Synnefa.
Soon though, Y/n had to jump into their next travels- as well as Karl. They said their goodbyes to each other, both obviously upset about having to stop the fun and interesting chat.
“Look, when I leave I’ll figure out how I got in, okay? If I don’t figure it out, it’s been a real pleasure Karl Jacobs. Anyways, off to the abandoned water city I go!”
Karl nods and waves his hands frantically at them, eager and hopeful for Y/n to visit him again.
“See ya around Y/n!”
Y/n then proceeds to take out a small book and pen from inside their robe. They open it and quickly scribble something down before closing it and putting away. Y/n gives Karl a last friendly smile before disappearing in a snap. Before that, they manage to give him one last message.
“Hopefully!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isaac wakes up in his bed by the sea docks. Meeting what seems to be his friends and roommates, Benjamin, Cletus, Charles and Monroe. Distant arguing can be heard from the docks. One of the voices sound oddly more familiar than the others to Isaac. Isaac walks over to the dock and finds two people arguing.
“What’s going on here? Why are you guys arguing so early in the morning!”
The two people stand up and point at each other.
“MONROE DOESNT GIVE ME BACK THE F*CKING FISHING ROD!”
“BECAUSE THE LAST TIME YOU CAUGHT A FISH YOU KILLED IT, CLETUS!”
Monroe? Their voice sounds oddly similar to someone else’s, but Isaac can’t quite put his finger on it. He looks down ignoring the minor situation, when he sees a small leather book- then it clicks. Monroe is Y/n! But before Isaac confronts Monroe (Y/n), he picks up the small leather book. It isn’t the one that Y/n had when they left Karl’s In-Between, but it instead had what looked like the directions and coordinates for The Lost City Of Mizu!
“CHARLES! GET THE F*CK OVER HERE SO YOU CAN GUIDE US TO THESE COORDS!!”
Charles walks out of the shared dockside house alongside Benjamin, I hand him the book and start heading for the boats when Monroe stops me. They whisper loud enough so that I can only hear.
“Karl? Is that you?”
“Y/n?! You recognize me!”
We get on the same boat while the others get on theirs as well, and set off following Charles to The Lost City Of Mizu.
“Okay first, we call each other Isaac and Monroe, okay? Don’t break character.”
“I don’t even know HOW I remember! Usually I don’t until I leave!”
“Well that doesn’t matter right now, just try to act like Isaac and not Karl.”
And that’s what they did. Karl was Isaac and Y/n was Monroe.
Once they found The Lost City Of Mizu, they met a man named Ranbob. Ranbob was the last resident of the city, and offered to show the group around. Rooms and rooms of full on history! It was like a huge museum filled with information of a place Ranbob called The Dream SMP, and Karl and Y/n were eating it up. Ranbob had suddenly disappeared, but the group didn’t pay much mind of it as they were trying to get into the Tree Dome.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Tree Dome room was as marvelous as it was big. The tree was absolutely beautiful, and was also the supply of oxygen for the now abandoned city- though the tree still looks to be thriving tremendously. The group spots a chest on the tree and nominates Cletus to go and retrieve it. Branch after branch and he’s finally up there! But soon after fallen and blown into oblivion because in suddenly appears Ranbob with loads and loads on TNT. Placing it all around the tree and the room, all he says is
“No one survives when they come here.”
And
BOOM!
He sets off the TNT in the tree, Cletus. Before he died, Cletus luckily tossed the group the book he essentially died for so before reading it, the group ran out of the room and shut the iron doors.
The rest of the group had also found a book that had a key to a “Secret Room”, and very soon after they were making they’re way down a certain “Secret Room” only to be met with another book and a room to the side full of lava parkour. Apparently the last person to try and make it past the lava parkour failed, but they know the key or next clue HAS to be there, so Benjamin is nominated to do the lava parkour, failing and falling into the lava on the final step. Bravely after watching his friend die, Isaac (Karl) decides he’s gonna take a go at the parkour, and succeeds! He gets the key and directions to the final room before they can escape and heads to the final room with Monroe and Charles.
The final room is...strange, to say the least. Black brick walls and flooring, the walls lined with diamond armour and weapons. At the end of the small hallway rested what looked like a terrarium. One of the walls were made of glass so they could look in, and what they saw wasn’t what they were expecting. A normal flat biome with grass blocks, a mini cave in the corner that had a few gold ores in it if you looked hard enough, and the strangest of all was the statue of a looming, smiling, green figure in the very center.
“Everyone had a person they idolized.”
Ranbob suddenly appears, interrupting the 3 taking in the room.
“Ranbob? Dude what the f*ck?!”
Y/n reaches for one of the diamond axes lining the wall, when suddenly Ranbob unsheathes a netherite sword.
“Don’t touch anything.”
That’s enough to get Y/n to back up from both the weapons AND Ranbob.
“How are you even here? We thought you DIED!”
But Ranbob didn’t seem to be bothered nor wanted to be bothered by such minuscule questions, and instead walked towards the glass of the terrarium.
“This is my idol. His name is Dream.”
“Was he a good person..?”
Karl questioned hesitantly. He didn’t wanna anger or irritate Ranbob after seeing what he said to Y/n.
“Hmm, yes, he’s a good person. Depending on what you think.”
Karl walks up to the glass and shatters an opening with his elbow. He, Charles and Y/n step into the terrarium, observing the statue and its habitat more closely. But they didn’t get the chance to say much more. Ranbob unsheathes his sword for the last time, trapping everyone inside the terrarium.
“No one makes it out alive.”
GASP!
“What the- where are we?”
“Y/n…? Y/n! Your back!”

Charles Schulz vs Andrew Dobson: What a Blockhead!
There are certain things about Dobson’s behavior and particularly his approach at being a nerd and presenting himself as someone who enjoys the art of storytelling that I have issues with. Issues I want to tackle on in more detail within later entries quite a bit.
One such tendency is, that he mocks directly or indirectly the work and accomplishments of others.
See, if Dobson doesn’t like you as a content creator because he does not like something you work on, he will try to show it. He will make stupid assumptions of you (like how he accused Kojima of being a sexist creep because of Quiet and how he deals with “male gaze” in MGS compared to Death Stranding), half heartedly mock you (look at anything he makes about Ethan Van Sciver) or he will call a piece of work boring and dull based on a minor element instead of overarching problems (calling Batman the character a white supremacist based on the dumb work of only one author).
By doing that he also tries indirectly to insinuate that he is better in some manner, though most of the time it really just shows his own ego and that his pet peeves are rather petty compared to the overall quality of the work he criticizes as well as its flaws.
One such sight of ego boosting while mocking the work of his better is in my opinion to be found in this comic he uploaded sometimes around 2016/17 randomly online.
Tumblr media
This comic in my opinion is both laughable and insulting. Why? I will explain soon.
First however I want to clarify that I get that this comic is supposed to be a joke mostly. The old “What others expect, what I expect” thing, where the punchline is supposed to be the discrepancy between the two fractions and what they expect, mostly by making one of the expectations come off as worse than the other. However, I find the punchline to be Charlie Brown (and as such what Dobson seems to see as something he does not want to be favorable compared too) quite insulting. Why, as I said, will be elaborated on sooner.
First, let me just get on the part I find laughable: The fact that Dobson in his own head seems to believe he can be even remotely compared to people like Paul Dinni, Bruce Timm, Greg Weismann, Justin Roiland, Miyazaki, Shigeru Miyamoto and all the other character creators and animators whose creations we see in the first panel.
 Dobson, don’t make me laugh. Putting aside the fact that those people are animators more than cartoonists, what makes you even believe in your wildest dreams you are on the same level as them? The fact you too are an animator, seeing how you graduated from an art school with a degree in that field? I have seen your contributions to the field and honestly, I would expect a bit more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0tdWNCrIxo
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps6PfiUCxHQ
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PyonOqClf8
 I give you credit, you can animate. Which is more than I can say for myself when it comes to the arts. But when you look what other freelance animators can do online, some of them younger than you and NOT with a degree in animation…
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=64&v=FmkAcGz1BJk&feature=emb_title
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97IfPfjSaDg
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEUoxQ4qSfs
 Viviepop’s demo reels alone are just gorgeous to look at and more fluid than what I have seen of you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFlha-KOKCc
 And it is not just the technical quality, Dobson. It is also just the overall “originality” of your work. Cause this is the thing with those animators hinted on in the first pic and even many, many freelancers/fanartists as well as webcomic creators online: They have a spark of originality in presentation and storytelling that you lack. I will one day go more into detail for that, but here is the most brutal thing I can say at the moment: I know shitty porn fanfictions, that have more plot development and character growth than all of Alex ze Pirate.
Your characters and stories tend to be derivative and you barely take any risks in telling a story. Neither in your fanbased work (like the Miraculous comics) nor your original content (mostly because you take comfort in four panel strips anyway)  and when you have an idea for something on which the basis idea actually sounds good, you screw it up by a lackluster execution. One example I want to give for that, would be this fanart of yours in regard to Steven Universe.
Tumblr media
(I apologize for not getting one in better quality) This pic was something Dobson created around 2015 for Steven Universe. The picture is supposed to show Lapis, trapped under the ocean following the events of the season 1 finale of the show. A very emotional situation if you are aware of why Lapis sacrificed herself and was “banned” to the ocean floor. Short explanation: Fused with Jasper and then took primarily control of the fused being they became (Malachite) by using her water powers to bond it with heavy water chains on the ocean floor, so that Jasper would not hurt Steven anymore.
 How much of that was even an emotional strain on her and her psyche was in one episode of season 2 even a theme, as seen here.
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK3l8mGNhMg
 I am not even a fan of the show and I get the emotional weight and impact of Lapis actions.
So… why is that not conveyed in the artwork? If you are so talented Dobson, why is none of the strain and despair on the character? The idea of a pic showing Lapis under water, longingly looking up, even in despair is a good basis for a fanart. But the execution lacks any emotional detail. You want to know how I would execute the thing if I had the artistic talent? Make the picture a huge horizontal pic, where we slowly decent from water surface down the ocean. The light getting dimmer. Blue turning into dark. The silhouette of a hand and an arm similar to Malachite’s in the background, trying to travel up, the fingertips barely touching the surface. Heavy chains around the flesh. Symbolic of the fusion trying to break free and cause havoc. And down on the dark bottom, beaten and exhausted Lapis with tears in her eyes and chains all over her body like she is Jacob Marley, desperately trying to keep Malachite at bay for the sake of the only being on earth who ever showed just a little bit of kindness towards her.
 Why can’t we have something like this here, Dobson? If you were even remotely as original as the creators you want to be compared with, I think you could come up with something like that and perhaps even draw it.
But you know, his delusions of being as good as them is one thing. It is even funny.
Pissing over the Peanuts is another. Dobson, what are you trying to hint at?
That people comparing you to Charles Schulz and his creation is in your eyes automatically a sort of insult? That it is something that should at best only be a mockable punchline in a comparison?
Just to clarify a few things: I am NOT much of a fan of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts as a property. As a child, I was just not very entertained by them. Yes, I saw animated movies, episodes and specials of them here and there and my grandparents gave me volumes of them to read, but as a whole I never thought them quite as entertaining than other comics or cartoons I watched. Some parts of Peanuts animation felt to me often times like just dead air (especially parts of Snooby dancing with Woodstuck, as they had no function to move the plots forward) and I really could not stand how some characters treat Charles on a regular basis. I mean, we all agree that Lucy is one of the worst female characters in fiction and that even while we hate Family Guy, this clip likely gave some of us some sort of satisfaction, right?
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZkJAx8FycI
 But before the Peanuts fan out there go and want my head on a silver platter, let me make one thing clear: I may not like the Peanuts franchise… but I respect it and the man behind it.
 Charles Schulz drew the comic strip from October 1950 till late 1999 (the final strip being finished months before it would be published on February 13 of 2000, one day after he died of colon cancer) , creating a total amount of 17,897 Peanuts’ strips. His work marks a major impact in the nature of newspaper comic strips and inspired many people out there, including Bill Watterson, to create comics or be in the field of animation. His achievements include among other things, that he created what many people consider the first animated Christmas special ever. The names of his creations became nicknames for the Apollo 10 command module and its’ lunar modul. Four of the five Peanuts movies in existence (animated made for tv specials not withstanding now) were written by him. And the fifth was only not by him, because that one came out in 2015, a decade and a half after he died.
And speaking of things Schulz wrote for the Peanuts, let me mention two things. Two things that though I am not a fan of the Peanuts, I have mad respect for existing in the realm of animation. Two animated specials that stuck with me ever since I was eight.
 “What have we learnt, Charlie Brown?” from 1983 and “Why, Charlie Brown, Why?” from 1990.
 In the first special, which functions as a semi sequel to the fourth Peanuts’ movie “Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown”, the characters actually travel across France and after ending up on Omaha Beach and Ypres the special turns into a tribute to the soldiers who fought in World War 1 and 2, elaborating on the sacrifices made during the war by showing actual footage of fights, recordings of Eisenhower and reciting the poem “In Flanders Fields” among other things. Do you know how impactful it is to learn about the world wars as a small kid, by being reminded of the actual sacrifices others made in order for your own grandparents to survive?
 And speaking of grandparents, I lost my grandmother as a child by cancer. So when I saw the second special I mentioned, you can bet it stuck with me. After all, of all the things in the world, the Peanuts addressing the seriousness of cancer by having a story where a friend of Linus is diagnosed with leukemia and we follow the emotional impact it has on Linus and the girl? Again, I may not like the franchise, but I am not ashamed to admit I think the special treats the subject with a lot of respect and dignity while telling a good story. You bet your ass I get a bit teary eyed when the little girl survives her leukemia treatment and finally gets on that swing again. Those two specials alone are more mature than ¾ of the shit Dobson likes to gosh about, including his oh so precious gay space rocks. And just for those things existing I have respect for Schulz, his creation and the impact it had on so many people. As such, Dobson “belittling” the Peanuts, at least for me, is a freaking insult. The only way Dobson could have been even more insulting is if he called Schulz something derogative.  Dobson should be glad if his life’s work in total could even amount to 10% of what Schulz has done and achieved.
 Cause Dobson, you are NOT a Charles Schulz. Schulz served during the second world war on the front, fighting actual Nazis instead of calling idiots on the internet fascists for not liking Star Wars. He had integrity and work ethics that drove him to draw and write over 17.000 strips, while you can not even finish one FREAKING story. He knew how to tackle a mature subject, while you make shitty shipping jokes involving Ladybug and Cat Noir and claim Steven Universe knows how to be about psychological trauma, when it just romanticizes abuse. He may have drawn simplistically, but at least he could tell a joke instead of constantly berating others for not sharing his opinion. He did all of that and more without having graduated from college.
 And what have you done, Andrew Dobson?
If Dobson reads this, there is one thing in my opinion he should take away from more than anything else: That if people compare him to Charles Schulz’s work, that it means a) he should not be ashamed of it and b) they overestimate him.

A Hat in Time - Victorian AU
This idea has been jumping around in my head for literally weeks.
Its a Victorian AU inspired by works like Jane Eyre and other Capital “R” romantic novels from the time period.
Please feel free to ask questions! I’m having lots of fun with this.
I’m also not sure what to call this AU - suggestions are appreciated
There is going to be a LOT of information below the line, read at your own risk!
Setting:
On the north side of Subcon forest, there is a small village and, just outside of it, is a prestigious manor owned by the Arelius family. The manor is over 100 years old, and has many nooks, crannies, and secrets.
Basic Plot:
While living and working at Subcon manor, ever adventurous Harriet Timms finds a secret staircase leading down to a secret room where a man was chained to the wall. Not knowing anything about him or the manor, she begins to befriend the man - who she calls “Snatcher” after he takes her food that he was willing to share. Meeting him starts a domino effect that will reveal the dark secret of the Manor - and perhaps put the poor girl in more danger than she realizes
Main Characters:
Harriet Timms
Tumblr media
An 8 year old Orphan who was “given” to the Subcon Manor after being deemed “unadoptable” by the orphanage where she lived due to her rambunctious personality. She does cleaning and other menial chores along with Mu, and while being pretty high energy, does manage to win people over with her bright smile and surprising kindness. In this AU, her “Hat” is a thick, satin ribbon that she ties into her hair every day and decorates with pins.
Lady Vanessa Arelius
Tumblr media
The lady of the manor who runs it while her husband is “away” on a world trip (he has been gone for 3 years at this point), she has an undercurrent of menace to her, and has a very, very short temper. She seems nice at first, but being on the other end of that short temper will teach you quickly to listen to her. She can and will gaslight you, yell at you, and then the next minute will apologize. She’s clearly hiding many secrets.
Lord Lukas Arelius
Tumblr media
After a simple misunderstanding, Vanessa locked him down in a hidden room of the manor to “teach him a lesson”. She visits him every day and tries to get him to admit his wrong doing, but the years of isolation have made him bitter and nihilistic - claiming that he would rather die down there. He has not seen anyone but Vanessa in years, and isn’t too keen on naive little visitors... at least at first
Morgan Uldenreich
Tumblr media
Or “Mu”, for short. She’s 11, and has worked at the Manor since she was 7 years old for similar reasons to Harriet. She hates going into town whenever the “Mafia” is coming through - and she connects them to the scars on her face, which garnered her the mean nickname of “mustache girl”. She seems deathly afraid of Vanessa, but also clearly craves validation and approval from the lady of the house
Cecilia Carlile
Tumblr media
Or CiCi, and she is more often known, is the head cook of the manor, and also manages the children that live and work there. She’s pretty headstrong and will butt into your situation if she thinks she can help. She’s fiercely protective of the  children in her care and has been known to snap - even at her employer. Why she hasn’t been fired isn’t much of a mystery. She’s perhaps the best cook in the whole of northern England
Markus Arelius
Tumblr media
Lukas’ twin brother who lives in a larger city about a days trip from Subcon - he runs the family law office. He dearly misses his brother and - while suspecting that Vanessa is not telling him the truth- tries to trust the woman whens he tells him that Lukas sends his regards. He only meets Harriet once during a visit to the manor for business purposes, but their conversations lead Harriet towards the final confrontation with Vanessa - kind of.
Side Characters (references to come!):
Damien Jacob Graves (DJ Graves)
A formerly traveling musician, he currently works at the Canary theater as the head musician under the owner and director (See below). He’s pretty laid back, and loves taking the shit out of this man who can’t fire him because he’s the only person willing to work with him. He’s one of the few men left that knows how to play a hurdygurdy - a surprisingly useful skill
Richard “Conductor” Connors
The owner of the Canary Theater (called “the dead bird”  by locals - who find his plays to be rather dark and violent even for theater at the time), Richard is a retired train operator who lives out his crazy stories on the stage. Despite his very prickly exterior, he is a devoted family man who spends almost all of his free time with his daughter and her children. He finds an appreciation for Harriet’s energy and is in some ways her first friend in Subcon
Delilah Munchen
The local florist in Subcon. She is somehow able to make both the natural flowers of Subcon look beautiful, and grows extremely rare flowers in her small greenhouse. She also makes decorative dried flower pins in her spare time, and gifts some to Harriet to decorate the ribbon she wears in her hair.
Beatriz “Bow” Santiago
A girl who Harriet befriended back at the Orphanage. They were practically sisters, and Harriet promised her that she’d come back one day and they’d both run away. She’s holding Harriet to that promise - gifting Harriet with the ribbon she wears.
The Mafia
A gang that wanders around Subcon forest. Before Lukas "left”, he’d managed to chase them away, but they’ve been making a comeback in the village since he disappeared. They cause nothing but trouble and no one likes them
“The Dwellers”
A group of people that live on the edge of the village, are known for superstitious beliefs and prophetic sayings
“Subconites”
What the citizens of Subcon proudly call themselves - this includes the other employees who work in the manor

“The Road” exhibition collected images from 46 artists from across the country to create an exhibition that celebrates, highlights and explores the American road and all that it in-tells.  The exhibition will survey the notion of the American Road. The road is an iconic theme that runs in some of the best and well known American photographers work such as Stephen Shore, Ed Ruscha, Alec Soth and many others . Photographers have traveled these vast landscapes and across thousands of miles to document this country and all that surrounds the road; the landscape, the gas stations, the motels, the diners and everything that comes by its side and its lifestyle.
Curated by Dana Stirling & Yoav Friedlander and hosted at the JKC Gallery in New Jersey.
The Road will run from February 24th through March 27th with a reception and talk on March 12th from 5:00-7:00 pm. The talk will be at 6:00pm.
