Something our dirge gets 100% percent right is the "in retrospect definitely autistic kid from your elementary school who was seemingly good at everything and had long blond hair and rectangular glasses" archetype. I've known like three guys who fit that exact description

3 reasons why Colgate could make a Cinderella run in the 2022 NCAA tournament
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/32965ab11596f30052299b13891e8702/1775b7462ca44de2-9c/s540x810/2498c31bf27f7328b4fbf7b06b673a8daa9ef05e.jpg)

The Raiders have been here before. Now they’re looking to take the next step.
Team: Colgate Raiders
Record: 23-11 Conference: Patriot League Seed: 14 First Round Opponent: Wisconsin (Friday, 9:50 p.m. ET) DraftKings Sportsbook odds: Colgate +7.5, Colgate +6000 to reach Elite Eight
What You Need to Know
For the third time in as many years (excluding 2020), the Colgate Raiders are headed to the NCAA tournament after rolling through the Patriot League and gobbling up the conference’s automatic bid.
Here are three things you need to know about the Raiders before deciding whether or not to pull the trigger on a 14/3 upset of Wisconsin.
1. They can light up the scoreboard
History tells us that offensive-minded teams one-bid leagues are far more likely to pull first round upsets than teams that have gotten to the Big Dance primarily with their defense. That’s good news for a Colgate team that ranks second in the nation in three-point shooting (40.1 percent), eighth in assists per game (17.2), and 11th in effective field goal percentage (59.9 percent). In their three Patriot League tournament games, the Raiders scored 91, 81 and 74 points.
2. They’re hot
Every team from a one-bid league is going to be riding a winning streak of some sort into March Madness (well, except Jacksonville State I guess ... grow up, NCAA ... let Bellarmine play), but the Raiders have been particularly hot. Colgate has won its last 15 contests, hasn’t been beaten since a 4-point loss at Boston U. on Jan. 28, which is also its only setback since all the way back on Jan. 4.
Eleven of Colgate’s 15 wins on this streak have come by double figures. The Raiders were especially dominant in the Patriot League tournament, winning their three games by 28, 20 and 16 points, respectively.
3. They’ve already shown they can slay a giant
Colgate played an extremely challenging non-conference schedule, nearly pulling upsets of both NC State (77-74) and Pittsburgh (71-68). The ACC team who wasn’t quite as fortunate against the Raiders was Syracuse, who got blown away by Matt Langel’s squad, 100-85 back on Nov. 20.
While Syracuse isn’t nearly the team Wisconsin is, Colgate will likely try to utilize the same game plan against the Badgers they they rode to victory against the Orange: Take a bunch of threes, make a bunch of threes. The Raiders launched a total of 43 shots from beyond the arc against Syracuse, and connected on 18 of those. Jack Ferguson and Nelly Cummings both went 6-of-13 from deep to lead the outside onslaught.
Why They Can Advance
Any team that shoots the ball as well as Colgate does is going to have a chance in virtually any game it plays. What separates the Raiders from other mid/low major teams in this tournament that have the ability to score is that Colgate also happens to have a pair of bigs (6’11 Jeff Woodward and 6’10 Keegan Records) who should be able to keep Wisconsin from dominating on the glass.
But the biggest reason Colgate has a shot at advancing is who they’re playing. After a string of narrow victories, Wisconsin enters the NCAA tournament coming off back-to-back losses to Nebraska at home in its regular season finale and Michigan State in its first game of the Big Ten tournament.
Perhaps more troubling than that is the fact that, as the chart below shows, the Badgers have a propensity for taking (and not making) a whole lot of bad shots.
: We ranked every NCAA tournament team using ShotQuality's shot selection and shot making metrics. Five teams rank in the top 10% of the NCAA in both categories: Gonzaga (1) Purdue (3) Loyola-Chicago (10) Vermont (13) Colgate (14) pic.twitter.com/CfkdSv1vHX
— ShotQuality (@Shot_Quality) March 14, 2022
A team that can get from deep against anyone against a team that is prone to lengthy droughts and lapses of poor judgment on offense is the perfect recipe for a closer-than-expected 3/14 game.
What Past Cinderella They Remind Us Of
The 2018-19 Colgate Raiders.
So technically Colgate wasn’t a Cinderella three years ago, but their statistical profile from that season is eerily similar to their current one. That Raiders team shot the three at a nearly 40 percent clip, had nearly an identical record as this year’s group, and entered the NCAA tournament with a lengthy winning streak that had been capped by a dominant run in the Patriot League tournament.
Colgate was a 15-seed that year, but they pushed second-seeded Tennessee to the absolute brink before ultimately falling in the final minute, 77-70. Do not be surprised at all if this year’s Raiders put a similar scare into another power conference opponent that has aspirations of playing deep into March.

Colgate: 2021 Patriot Men's Basketball Champions
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/34b7d3647eb76009870b0135954fd70e/e166860c2614b89c-3e/s540x810/e7e606b95997e33c01fae14c8fc2eb2d8903419b.jpg)
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- — Tucker Richardson scored 17 points and Jordan Burns and Jack Ferguson 16 each to lead Colgate to a 85-72 win over Loyola Maryland on Sunday for the Patriot League Tournament championship.
Colgate (14-1) advances to its fourth NCAA Tournament where it's never won. Its last appearance came in 2019.
The top-seeded Raiders, in their fourth straight Patriot League title game, led the entire way in extending their program-record win streak to 13.
"This is as unified a group as I've ever been around," Colgate coach Matt Langel said. "I mean, with everything that's going on in the world they've been able to have difficult conversations and grow as a group. And, you know, amidst COVID and all the obstacles that we face, they just keep coming back for more, and they so love one another."
The Raiders made 14 of 23 3-point attempts for 61%, including 7 of 9 in the second half when they pulled away. Richardson had four 3-pointers and four teammates also hit from behind the arc.
Ryan Moffatt added 11 points and Nelly Cummings 10 for Colgate, which came in averaging over 86.4 points per game, tied with Baylor and second only to top-ranked Gonzaga.
"This is what we've been battling to do the whole season," said Burns, a senior. "It's been a crazy journey, but we're so glad we're the team that came out on top. This year gave us the energy to not take any practice lightly and to just continue to go out there and work hard every single day, and I think that's why when it came down to the end, we were able to stretch that lead and end on a comfortable note."
Jaylin Andrews scored 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting for Loyola. Santi Aldama, sixth in the country in scoring at 21.8 points per game, finished with 13 points after scoring 33 in a semifinal win over Army. Isaiah Hart added 11 points. The Greyhounds shot 47% but made only 5 of 22 3-point attempts.
Loyola (6-11) came into the tournament as the ninth seed with a record of 4-10 after not starting play until mid-January and getting off to a 1-7 start. The Greyhounds trailed only 38-33 at halftime, but an 11-2 run put Colgate up by 17 midway through the second half and the lead remained comfortably in double figures.
The two teams didn't meet during the regular season as the league split into three regional mini-conferences because of COVID-19 concerns. Colgate, which began play Jan. 2, faced only three different opponents until reaching the conference tournament.
Now it's on to the NCAAs where the Raiders know they have a monumental task ahead. In its NCAA Tournament history, Colgate has faced two No. 1 seeds and a No. 2.
"These guys will remember this for the rest of their lives, so we'll have a couple days to get ready for somebody who's really good," Langel said. "We'll have to put a game plan together. I know that our guys will pay attention and now they'll be super excited. I think we're really good team, we've got a lot of dangerous weapons, and can hurt you in a lot of ways, and so if we can find a way to defend and keep somebody from getting easy shots against us, I think we really like our group and I know they'll be ready to go."

The desperate search for missing Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts has so far led investigators to question a pig farmer who reportedly twice pleaded guilty to stalking, while a suspect in an assault on a jogger in another Iowa city and a man seen surreptitiously snapping pics of young girls on a run have also been analyzed for any possible connections.
But, so far, cops have come up empty.
On Wednesday, a pig farmer in the area told Fox News seven FBI investigators arrived at his home last Friday and asked to search it without a warrant.
Authorities probed the property for nearly two hours, taking photos of the interior of the home and also searching the man’s garage. The farmer said investigators asked to interview him off the property and kept his cell phone overnight to check his records. He added he “has nothing to hide” as cops search for Tibbetts, a sophomore at the University of Iowa who was last seen in nearby Brooklyn on July 18.
WHO-DT reported that the farmer said in an interview that he doesn’t know the family and hopes Mollie is tracked down soon.
“I don’t know who those two [officials] were but they took me down to the fire station Tuesday and questioned me for two hours,” the farmer said. “I don’t remember what they asked me.
He added: “I just thought it was a waste of time, but, oh well.”
WHO-DT, citing Iowa court documents, also reported that the farmer has entered guilty pleas for two instances of stalking – one in Poweshiek County in 2009 and another in Marion County in 2014. The station named the farmer late Wednesday, but he spoke to Fox News on the condition that his identity would be withheld.
Police have not identified any suspects in the case, and are expected to announce at 12 p.m. ET Thursday the reward for information leading to an arrest has skyrocketed from $2,000 to $32,000.
The search for Tibbetts has involved numerous law enforcement agencies on the local, state and federal levels – and for the first time Wednesday appeared to cross state lines as police in Kearney, Missouri, said they investigated a possible Tibbetts sighting.
“The Kearney Missouri Police Department did respond to a possible sighting on 7-26-2018 at a truck stop within our jurisdiction,” Sgt. Joe Kantola said in a press release. “Officers conducted a thorough search of the area, spoke with all possible witnesses, and reviewed all available video footage. A report was sent to the investigating task force regarding this possible sighting.”
Mollie was last seen when she left her boyfriend’s home to jog on the evening of July 18. The boyfriend, Dalton Jack, shares the house with his brother and his brother’s fiance, and Tibbetts was staying there to watch Jack’s dogs while he worked in Dubuque. Police have formally cleared Jack, who was in Dubuque at the time Mollie vanished.
Police in that Iowa city, which lies on the state’s border with Wisconsin and Illinois, said Wednesday they arrested a man accused of assaulting a jogger earlier this week – although as of now, the case currently has no known ties to Tibbetts’ disappearance.
Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Jensen told Fox News the jogger had stated to investigators she was running near the city’s fire station on Sunday night when she was approached by a man who had offered her flowers and tried to grab her.
“The male subject, later identified as Greg Thomas Langel, 22, of Dubuque, grabbed the female victim’s arm when she refused to give him her phone number,” the police department said in a statement. “She was able to pull her arm away and kicked Langel when he tried to grab her again.”
The department said they tracked a suspicious vehicle observed by traffic cameras in the area of the reported assault back to Langel, who made “limited admissions about the incident.” He has been charged with simple assault and was taken into custody Wednesday on a warrant.
In Pella, about an hour’s drive away from Brooklyn, police said Tuesday they took a man in for questioning after he was captured on surveillance footage last Friday taking pictures of female joggers.
Pella Lt. Shane Cox told Fox News that during questioning the man revealed why he had taken the photos, but Cox said he would not disclose that information.
“I’ve got the detectives fact checking everything he’s given us,” Cox said. “At this point there are no criminal charges.” And, Cox added, he doesn’t expect there to be any charges.
Cox also told Fox News on Tuesday his department has been in contact with the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office regarding the case but have not found it in any way linked to Tibbetts’ disappearance.
Tibbetts’ father Rob, brothers Jake and Scott, and her boyfriend have urged the public in a series of wide-ranging, exclusive interviews with Fox News Channel to send in tips to police.
“Just think. Think about what you saw and call the authorities. I really think that’s how we are going to get Mollie back. I really do,” Rob Tibbetts told Fox & Friends early Thursday morning.
Fox News’ Cristina Corbin and Andrew Keiper contributed to this report.

had to doodle the birthday boy
Jack's birthday was on 3/18 but I missed it. However I think he's the kind of guy to never mention when his birthday is, and might even prefer being congratulated late because he doesn't like seeking attention. So happy BELATED birthday Jack Langel
In celebration I drew how he would respond to being asked what he wants for his birthday
