#JWCT I JUST WANNA TALK ......

hey so who decided it was a good idea to give darius survivor's guilt. TWICE.

watching jwct at the end of the week will be my little prize for completing state testing, marching band and concert band rehearsal. Just a little treat for what is to be one of the most mentally challenging weeks of the school year.

Okay, so I finished JWCT and-- it was a great season.

Ben was awesome this season. All the mentions to how much he'd grown were funny, and the Big Ben joke was as well. I really liked him and his moments with Darius and Yaz, most of all with Yaz; I always enjoyed their friendship, and I loved how they talked about their feelings again. Also-- he has a girlfriend? A girlfriend?

Kenji's moments confronting his father and not letting himself be manipulated again were among my favorites this season. His conflict with Darius and their brotherly moments were cool to watch. Darius' whole arc, his grief and guilt over Brooklynn's supposed death was among my favorite arcs this season.

Yaz and Sammy were awesome in general, both individually and as a couple. Yaz is my favorite character, and I loved her arc. As someone with PTSD myself, I am very pleased with how the show didn't shy away from it and fully saying "PTSD". Personally, I am pretty happy that Yaz's PTSD was handled so realistically and with such care. Sammy was a badass this season, and her feelings and anxiety while dealing with Yaz apparently pulling away, her grief over Brooklynn's supposed death and the fact that her parents for some reason don't talk to her were handled realistically. I specifically wanna know what happened between her and her parents, because she adored her family and her family adored her as well back in CC; I really wonder what the conflict is that they're not talking anymore. Yasammy as a couple is awesome as well, as I said: their conflict is handled very well and you can understand both sides. The resolution was great and their moments in general were awesome. They're still easily the best couple of this show (not that it had a lot of competition), and probably one of the best in animated media in general. I love them.

Brooklynn being alive at the end? I think everyone called it, lmao. My girl is far too cool to just die, sorry, she can't die. I can't wait to see the others find out and their reunion.

Now, my thoughts about the other ships this season-- Brookenji and Dinostar lmao? I cheered when I found out Brookenji broke up; I was never a fan of the couple, sorry, it was TOO forced. Now, the whole Dinostar thing-- I was a bit suspicious of the way Darius was acting about Brooklynn and all, but I didn't think they were actually gonna have him admit he was in love with her, so that took me by surprise. I know they said it was unrequited, but yeah I don't buy that. I'm predicting it: it will turn out that it's not unrequited, that Brooklynn actually has feelings for him and they're going to pull a love triangle between her, Darius and Kenji. Pfff, it's like I'm seeing it. I'm really not a fan of love triangles tbh. But if it happens (and it's probably gonna happen, I can see it coming), I hope it ends up with Dinostar endgame instead of Brookenji. Like I already said, I really don't like Brookenji. And I've always been more neutral with Dinostar (and Benrius; I like, them too but don't pay them that much mind). I liked Dinostar platonically a lot, and while I didn't care much of it, I also never minded the idea of them becoming a couple. In fact, Brookenji took me by surprise while watching the show because to me if they were gonna pair Brooklynn with someone, I always thought it'd be Darius rather than Kenji, because I thought they made more sense. So, yeah, if it's Brookenji or Dinostar, Dinostar all the way for me lmao. Still not looking forward to the love triangle if it happens lol.

Also, Bumpy being a mom. Fave moment of the season.

Anyway, I need a second season. Like, right now.

pre jwcc: she grew up in a household that wasn't the best, most nights she felt numb and depressed, other nights fueled by pure anger, and she was in constant emotional manipulation. she was friends with sammy as they grew up near each other and one night, mallory snuck out of her room around midnight, hiding in one of the cattle's room thingy (forgive me) and sammy found her in the morning. after a explanation, she found a way for mallory to get emancipated, and sammy's parents let her live with them. so technically they aren't her legal parents now but she considers them as such since they treat her as a daughter. it was only a few months after her adoption before she left to the camp with sammy.

jwcc: she left to the camp with sammy, not wanting her to be alone on a dangerous mission, and she barely ever left her sister, conjoined at the hip basically all the time with a few exceptions. when they did split up, she seemed to always end up with ben, which led to them becoming close friends due to just constant closeness.

escaping nublar: walking off that island and getting home was a horrendous mission, and when they did; mallory was visibly different. not just from the scars cause by the dinos but she just seemed drained constantly again, never sleeping, barely eating, back to the quiet girl she was a year ago. it didn't help everyone was off in different places, but being back on the farm was a good distraction from longing feelings (coughforbencough) and nightmares (specifically the scorpius & mosasaurus) and other various bleh-ness.

pre jwct: she mostly stayed at the farm with sammy, helping out around there and caring for bumpy (she mentally promised ben she wouldn't let any harm come to his baby) and the various animals, trying to help lift some of the load off sammy's shoulders. though she did take a break to visit darius at the same time as brooklynn since she needed to talk to darius about something important that she didn't know how to act on (coughherfeelingsaboutbenagaincough) and such :3 she was the one who dropped brooklynn off at the site, and that's where she was kidnapped and brought to dr sarr

jwct: while the others were having their mission, she was in the lab being tested on so not much really happened until s2ep10 where they find the lab and escape it

kenji and ben were the first to find her wandering, but just hid unsure who it was (she had a cloak on covering her tail and stuff) but when darius and the girls were fighting miss blind she made a proper introduction, walking in holding the plushie that ben got her after they escaped during a carnival. she took the cloak off and stood with Soyona, while she pushed him into the pen (mallory def smiled when she thought the dino off'd him and 100% chuckled during the camera footage of him getting knawd on) but she didn't make it to the van with brooklynn and was left to simply explode in the lab which is where she met the group again (i'll maybe write about that)

i kinda wanna do a episode by episode rewrite including her (not so much rewrite but what's she's up too during the episode??) but maybe not idk if y'all think that's cool I might

HAPPY PANEL DAY!!!! hoping for a brooklynn-centric episode for today's screening 🙏 (not even manifesting i genuinely have a good feeling about this one)

now that the trailer's been out for a few days let'sssss talk about how the rest of the camp fam might react to finding out ben knew brooklynn was alive (since kenji's reaction has already been made thoroughly apparent LOL):

SAMMY - denial denial denial. not over brooklynn, but the fact that ben would keep them in the dark like that. less so because she's a naturally empathetic and forgiving person but more so because it'd be hard to accept that ben couldn't trust them. especially after their whole thing in s1e05, sammy would have thought they'd be past this by now. still, i think her and ben might be able to get over that hill faster than him and kenji

YASMINA - hurt, confusion, but maybe ... understanding? i think after all the work she's put into healing her trauma, she'd try to see things from ben's perspective. not only have they always shared a sort of kinship with each other, but a big part of yasammy's strife in s1 had to do with yasmina pulling away from sammy, so she might be able to personally relate to ben doing the same thing to them (i.e. hiding the truth from his friends). i'd make reference to a plot point from s2e01 to further support this speculation buttttt i don't wanna spoil that for anyone who hasn't watched the recaps, so i'll just leave it at that for now!

DARIUS - this one is ... hard. darius has a tendency to shut down in situations where he feels guilty or betrayed: it happened in jwcc season 1 when ben fell from the monorail, it happened in jwcc s2 when brooklynn made that "cool dad" comment, it happened in jwcc s5 when kenji sided with his father, and it happened once more in jwct in the aftermath of brooklynn's "death" (which he admits to himself circa s1e02, "you're right, i did hide!"). so i can very much see darius responding with ... cold despondence. a kind of deafening disappointment. but, i don't know if darius's hurt over ben hiding the truth from them would totally override the relief and hope he might feel at finding out brooklynn is alive, in contrast to kenji's anger. if they get more details on brooklynn's whereabouts, the kinds of things she's been up to, i can also see him being more willing to look past that, partially out of an obligation to make things right (still feeling guilty about standing brooklynn up the night she was attacked) and partially out of sentiment (being in love with brooklynn). meanwhile, kenji wouldn't have these same hangups, at least not to the same degree as darius; while i believe kenji still loves brooklynn, maybe even looks back on certain aspects of their relationship fondly, i think he's well past being deeply, truthfully in love with her. basically, i don't think there would be as much multiplicity to his emotions in this situation in comparison to darius, which is what makes summing up darius's potential feelings that much more difficult for me
