Marvel Comics Reveals "Venom War" Issues and Tie-Ins for August 2024

The Venom War is about to kick off with both Eddie and Dylan Brock vying to be the sole Venom host and past and present symbiote characters will be forced to pick a side. The Venom War has been building with Al Ewing's laying the groundwork in the current Venom run, but the war will spill out into it's own comic and tie-in comics / issues.

August will see the release of:

Venom War #1 (of 5) from Al Ewing and Iban Coello (on sale August 7, 2024) in which father and son Eddie Brock and Dylan Brock are both determined to be the one true Venom.

Venom #36 from Torunn Gronbekk and Cafu (on sale August 14, 2024) sees an older Dylan Brock - Old Man Venom - time travelling in order to guarantee the correct victor in the Venom War, with his first jump taking him into Spider-Man's history.

Venom War: Spider-Man #1 (of 4) from Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Greg Land (on sale August 14, 2024) puts Spider-Man back in the black suit. After all, Peter Parker was Venom's first host and maybe he is the best choice.

Venom War: Carnage #1 (of 3) from Torunn Gronbekk and Pere Pérez (on sale August 21, 2024) has Carnage rallying his own troops. His own plans may even involve that little "deadly-to-symbiotes weapon he discovered in CARNAGE #8."

Venom War: Venomous #1 (of 3) from Erica Schultz and Luciano Vecchio (on sale August 21, 2024) has Black Widow picking a side in the Venom War. Black Widow is looking into those "horrific experiments Alchemax has been running based on their symbiote program… but she isn’t the only one! Natasha’s old teammate from her Secret Avengers days, now known as Agent Anti-Venom, is also on the case!"

Venom War: Zombiotes #1 (of 3) from Cavan Scott and Juan José Ryp (on sale August 28, 2024) follows a new strain of symbiote that can reanimate the dead and change the living with just a bite. "That’s right—zombie symbiotes making symbiote zombies!"

Wednesday morning I had planned on going for a swim but the wind was making it very messy. The plan was to try later in the day but of course that didn’t happen.

I had my weekly call with Mum and then we had a lovely call with Paul and Sharon. The rest of the day was spent food shopping and cleaning and of course watching the TdF. Thank goodness we did get to watch the Tour as we saw history being made with Mark Cavendish’s 35th TdF win.

We did make it out for a drink in the evening before heading home to watch a movie.

Thursday morning was cycling morning. I met Marjolein who’s back from the Netherlands, and Jose met the group. Unfortunately the group came up to Marjolein and me just as the wind also started to pick up. If you look at my Strava you’ll see I have a number of pbs at the start of the ride, not exactly how I like to start my rides. I slipped off the back before I blew myself to pieces and met up with Marjolein further up the road who’d also backed out gracefully before exploding 😜

We then settled in for a very pleasant ride with coffee at St Pere Pescador. Jose meanwhile headed off to La Ganga with the group.

Jose and I met up for lunch back at L’Escala. We decided to treat ourselves as the rest of the afternoon was to be spent finishing the cleaning and cooking a cheesecake, etc ahead of the family’s arrival. We did of course have the TdF on in the background.

Finally it was time to walk up and meet the bus. Marjolein happened to cycle past just as the bus was arriving so they all got to meet her straight away. It was amazing to have them all here, I still can’t quite believe it.

The bus had been late leaving Barcelona, so given it was after 8pm by the time we’d walked down to the apartment tonight we just hung out on the balcony. So busy talking I forgot to take any photos 🙄

Brazilian police raid pro-Bolsonaro businessmen accused of coup talk, sources say

Brazilian police on Tuesday conducted raids targeting several businessmen who have backed President Jair Bolsonaro's re-election, two sources said, after a media report accused them of discussing the virtues of a coup d'etat if the far-right leader lost the October vote.

Federal police confirmed they were carrying out eight search warrants in five states at the direction of Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who became head of Brazil's top electoral court last week. Police did not name the targets.

Two people with knowledge of the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the targets of the raids included Jose Isaac Peres, who is the chief executive officer of shopping mall operator Multiplan Empreendimentos Imobiliarios SA (MULT3.SA), and Meyer Joseph Nigri, the chairman of homebuilder Tecnisa SA (TCSA3.SA).

Billionaire Luciano Hang, the founder of department store chain Havan and one of Bolsonaro's most prominent supporters, said he had been targeted in the operation, which he blamed on news coverage distorting his comments in a group chat.

Spring is in the air

Tuesday morning dawned sunny but windy. After some careful route planning we headed out for a nice ride. Marjolein and I went a bit shorter and enjoyed schnekens in St Pere Pescador on the way home.

Later Jose and Charlie arrived back in L’Escala and I joined them for a post ride drink and a bit of tapas. The sun was shining and life is good 😎

Tuesday afternoon, what was left of it, was spent doing a few chores before settling in for an evening of nebula watching YouTube cycling videos.

Wednesday was another glorious day but thankfully without the wind. First thing was calls with home, always lovely. After that we got ourselves organised and went to our Spanish discussion group, it’s slowly coming back to me.

Charlie and Cathy picked us up and we headed to Roses for the Ruta de Tapa. It’s huge, they have about 85 bars participating, we managed 6. It was great fun. The highlight I think was were we barbecued our own chorizo (see the video). Unfortunately there was quite a bit of bread in the various tapa, so I was feeling somewhat bloated by the time we headed home, but still a great afternoon.

We got Charlie to drop us a little way out so we could walk off some of the food. On the way home we dropped into an exhibition showcasing 8 female artists as part of International Women’s Day last week. Very interesting.

A quiet evening at home having been out for most of the day. We watched a replay of the last 55km of Milano-Torino.

Brazilian police raid homes of pro-Bolsonaro businessmen linked to coup chat

Brazilian police launched an operation on Tuesday against eight businessmen who are suspected of being part of a WhatsApp group that discussed the benefits of staging a coup d’état if President Jair Bolsonaro loses the October election against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT). News of the WhatsApp group was revealed by the Brazilian online newspaper Metropoles on August 17.

“I prefer a coup to the return of the PT. A million times,” wrote Jose Koury, a pro-Bolsonaro real estate magnate from Rio de Janeiro, three weeks ago. As part of the operation, the police searched the businessmen’s homes, blocked their social media accounts and reviewed their bank accounts.

The raid targeted billionaire Luciano Hang, the owner of the department store chain Havan, which features replicas of the US Statue of Liberty outside its stores. Hang, one of Bolsonaro’s most prominent supporters, said on Twitter that police had appeared at his home at 6am. He denied having spoken about staging a coup in the WhatsApp group.

Also targeted by police were Jose Isaac Peres, CEO of shopping mall operator Multiplan Empreendimentos Imobiliarios SA; Meyer Joseph Nigri, chairman of homebuilder Tecnisa SA; Ivan Wrobel, the owner of the engineering company W3; AfrânioBarreira Filho, from the restaurant chain Coco Bambu; and Luiz André Tissot, the owner of the furniture firm Sierra Móveis.
