"Ozai is just a shallow villain."
I see this argument far too often, so let me put this one in the ground once and for all and explain why Ozai is one of the Greatest Big Bads of All Time...and I'm going to do it with just one shot.
First, before anything else: appreciate the animation here. Not sure who the animator was, but I believe JM studios worked on this, so shout-out to that company and its fine animators!
But now...analysis!
In this moment, right here, Ozai literally burns away any genuine arguments that he is anything less than Him. Yes, just a few hours ago, he was blustering about how he is now "The Phoenix King". Yes, a month or so ago, he held a meeting just to proclaim to all of his advisors and children how he would become the Supreme Ruler of All the World. Yes, he's an egotistical, genocidal lunatic with one of the biggest god complexes ever put to screen.
But then...he sees Aang. The Avatar attacks his airship, knocking it out of the sky. And that's when Ozai snaps out of his power fantasy and becomes the Final Boss.
He doesn't hesitate for a second. The trappings he'd dreamed of wearing for so long, the fine clothes he adorned himself with for the occasion today...he pulls them from his body. The ornate cloak of the Phoenix King, the freshly made symbol of his power...he burns it. He discarded his crown, and already shed his (ridiculous) helmet when he realized that it would hinder him on his mission--so now he's just a man.
In an instant, Phoenix King Ozai has shed himself not only of his cumbersome garments, but of any pretense that he needs anything but himself to show his power.
And that is only the first part!
He does not look around for help. He does not order his crew to follow him from the ship; there is no cry of "Seize him!" He does not turn to minions, or secondary schemes, or even seize a weapon (there is none more potent than him right now). He calls fire from his own hands, and leaps down to enter the battle himself.
He does not curse the ruination of his scheme. He does not tell anyone to bear witness. In this moment, Ozai has one purpose, and that is to kill the one person in the world who can challenge him, the legend that the Fire Nation has feared since the days of Firelord Sozin: the Last Airbender.
All it took was for Ozai to see this challenger, and he descended onto the field of battle himself. He had no interest in backup, no need for witnesses to his glory: he had one task in mind, and he was going to do it.
#firelord ozai#ozai#phoenix king ozai#avatar: the last airbender#atla#ozai is a man with a lot of bluster and ego but unlike so many others he BACKS THAT UP#and while I feel like he might have used guards to fight aang#and certainly ran and hid in a bunker when the fire nation was being invaded#that was pragmatism#had appa not been present the entire invasion force would have been crushed and there would have been nothing left#ozai is proud and evil but he's not stupid#also GOSH this is fantastically animated

the whole argument that katara looks more ..older/mature with zuko and not childish like with aang =kataang bad is silly cause.
note how Aang looks older/more mature here compared to the painted lady .. which is acutally from the same animation house The Moi animation studio (you can find this on the credits on netflix)
aang looks about 13 here he looks older than s1/2 aang and nothing is said about it.. his head is normal size here and nto super cartoony and i have a theory to this. TSR is a serious episode.. they don't want it to look cartoony ..a simple answer.
Note that aang goes through changes too, his head can be a Bobblehead or normal size.. . its not some grand kataang/zutara ship conspiracy its prob to fit the theme of an episode as the moi worked on TSR/ painted Lady and its the same company .. there's no antizutara nonsense going on. its just what fits the tone of the episode scene nothing more. JM: worked on the Headband...
there are so many people involved in animation/storyboards/ and the show i just dont get how people buy into conspiracies.. do they think everyone is on it that bryke hovers over peoples head going, make katara look moer appealing with aang seems silly right? cause it is.
I prefer TSR/ western Temple Aang/Katara myself.. but there is def no conspiracy here

This would also significantly effect the animation industry in North America too, as studios will sometimes outsource their series work to animators in South Korea, (such as studios JM Animation, DR Movie, and MOI Animation for Avatar The Last Airbender and later Korra where studio Mir was involved in pre-production, like storyboarding, making them a significant source of creative input for the series).
This would mean Netflix would be affected more significantly than it initially appears, since South Korean artists not being paid fairly by Netflix would effect the animation industry as a whole.
To paraphrase another article, Netflix has apparently tried to turn to South Korean writers amidst the WAG strike, but they feel exploited too.
DUUUUUUDE! Get it South Korea!
That's the article directly. Please give it a read.
If South Korean actors and writers strike against Netflix, Netflix would be COMPLETELY fucked.

Series Review: Creature Commandos
Series Review: Creature Commandos is a strange, violent, and pretentious beginning
It seems that the competition to see which cinematic universe of the superhero genre is better than another continues to be a hot topic, while Marvel prepares the premiere of the third and final season of the animated series What If...? DC Studios does the same by presenting what is the beginning of a new universe. After the failures and cancellations of the SnyderVerse and other productions for film and television, two years after James Gunn was assigned to this position, and things have taken a different direction, we still don't have a clear idea of how he wants to do things. On the one hand, the "famous" ArrowVerse started a franchise on CW in October 2012. That connected directly with other series and spin-offs such as The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning, and the recently finished Superman & Lois as well as the animated miniseries Freedom Fighters: The Ray and Vixen tried to create something new and never before seen on television by exploring the multiverse of these characters in more depth. It is now in 2024 that Creature Commandos arrives, an animated series for adults based on the eponymous DC Comics team produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation is the first television series and the first installment for the new DC Universe led by James Gunn. What is the animated series Creature Commandos about? After the events of The Suicide Squad (2021) and the first season of Peacemaker (2022), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assembles a very unconventional secret operations team made up of monstrous beings they call Creature Commandos, led by General Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo). Together, they will have to put aside their differences to rescue a small nation from the power of Circe (Anya Chalotra), who threatens to start a war. After a controversy of back and forth after this series was announced by Gunn and Safran in 2023 and they revealed the plans and projects on their list of a new DCU, for or against this, we ask ourselves why formally start with this animated series? The answer is simple and it is because the formula that Gunn has to rescue secondary or canceled teams of antiheroes works under the context of being able to delve deeper into them and humanize them. This peculiar team has been published by DC Comics, Creature Commandos are impossible and military beings located during World War II, created by JM DeMatteis and Pat Broderick, the original team made its debut in the comic Weird War Tales # 93 in November 1980, and was made up of the human leader Matthew Shrieve, a werewolf, G.I. Robot, a vampire, Frankenstein's monster and a gorgon, after its medium success and acceptance, a more modern team was introduced in its miniseries Creature Commandos #1/8 in 2000, written by Tim Truman and drawn by Scot Eaton. This controversial and long-awaited release has finally been released dividing opinions, some believe that this is good and for those who do not, this is a pretext to integrate them into what will be the new Superman movie soon to be released in 2025, we are facing an animated series for adults with language, sexual scenes and explicit graphic violence that focuses on a team made up of monsters The Bride (Indira Varma), G.I. Robot, Weasel, Doctor Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky/The amphibian Woman and Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour) who use and hold captive below the law to undertake impossible missions to save the world. This series could seem like a new version of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Suicide Squad in a different version, the comparisons are obvious since Gunn uses the same formula to humanize them, however, what we have seen on screen in these 3 episodes of the 7 that complete the first season have gone from good to better to much better. As expected, the references give a definitive closure to what the previous DCU and raise what this new adaptation according to Gunn's own words will not be linear as they have done in the House of Ideas, although there will be a connection between all of them, things will be told at different times and flashbacks within the same projects, a risky idea that if put into practice before possibly would have worked better, which does not guarantee that in these new projects, it will work as the studios expect. Once again we see that the director of A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) does not understand that using criminals and now monsters to do the dirty work behind the back of an American government that prefers to look at the other way in situations of imminent danger to humanity is not a good idea, now she has been restricted by Congress from using humans in this type of mission. The best option and the only one she has is to recruit Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) as a leader, in this team of non-human prisoners for a mission that consists of helping the small nation of Pokolistan that is an ally of the U.S. and taking care of the safety of the soon-to-be-throned Princess Ilana Rostovic (Maria Bakalova) against the Amazonian Sorceress Circe (Anya Chalotra) and her allies The Sons of Themyscira who support this villain to conquer the rest of the world. The team is made up of monstrous and unusual beings, they have a sensitive, deep, and even human side with their tragic and tortured souls, Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk) is a radioactive being who can burn everything around him and who has a cynical and sarcastic attitude, G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn) has been programmed to kill Nazis regardless of his main directive having a specific timeline, Weasel (Sean Gunn) from the Suicide Squad a child-killing and very violent weasel, Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao) is an amphibious woman, The Bride (Indira Varma) the second creation of Victor Frankenstein who is also the internal leader of this team and finally Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour) the now intelligent and millionaire stalker and murderer. In its context and style, this series could be defined as a bloody, obscene, and vulgar adventure. The fact that Gunn uses this type of character again to deepen and humanize them is already a very worn-out cliché that ensures media success. Each of these 3 episodes dedicates its own time to tell us 2 stories in one. On the one hand, we have the conflict of this nation, and on the other, the internal conflict and the story of these characters who in a forced way share a camaraderie that turns out to be very familiar to them so as not to feel so alone and disoriented in a world that they no longer know and to which they do not belong.
The 3 episodes that are already available are:
1. The Collywobbles. The small nation of Pokolistan is being attacked by the sorceress Circe and her followers, in response to this the now director of A.R.G.U.S. Amanda Waller assigns Rick Flag Sr. as leader of the mission who will have to protect, defend and help her heir Princess Ilana Rostovic and in turn stop, Cire after the US Congress canceled the Task Force X program after what happened in Corto Maltese and for endangering human lives now recruits a team of non-human inmates from Belle Reve penitentiary, The Bride, Doctor Phosphorus, G.I. Robot, Weasel and Nina Mazursky under the code name Task Force M, the plan is for the team to settle in the castle and from there carry out the assigned operations.
2. The Tourmaline Necklace. In 1831, Eric asks his creator, Dr. Frankenstein, to create a wife for him from female corpses. After successfully fulfilling his request, Victor teaches the Bride how to speak and function normally, much to Eric's dismay. Despite his advances, the newborn creature continues to fear the presence of this monster, causing her to flee and take refuge in her creator. Sometime later, Victor gives the Bride a tourmaline necklace, and as expected, the two fall in love and have sex. Eric, upon seeing this, kills his father and creator, causing the Bride to attack him and then flee. For decades, Eric harasses and pursues her around the world, even though she rejects him at each encounter. In the present, the Bride and Nina are searching for the necklace in Victor's mansion when they are attacked by Circe, and although they fight, they have already lost this battle.
3. Cheers to the Tin Man. G.I. Robot is created and programmed to join the Easy squadron to fight during World War II defending them and killing Nazis, years later in the 60s the United States government gives him to the scientist Will Magnus to study him and create a new robotic army, years later and already in the 90s G.I. is found in a military antiques store by the collector Sam Fitzgibbon establishing a new friendship with him, which will be put to the test when the robot learns that his now friend is part of a neo-Nazi group and carries out his main and most important directive: kill all Nazis and their allies, after this crime G.I. is sentenced to prison in Belle Reve, already in the present, Task Force M arrives at Victor's mansion and rescues Nina and the Bride but Flag realizes that it was a distraction from Circe to attack Rostovic's castle and kill the princess, when the team returns and finds the castle being attacked Flags with the help of G.I. They manage to stop Circe, who, now defeated, is the one who has condemned the world.
While these 3 episodes go from good to very good and better, James Gunn's handling of the stories is more fluid than in his previous live-action productions, the fact that it is an animated series gives him more freedom to tell each thing in more detail and go deeper with them in a perverse game with the viewer, making us empathize with these characters and their tragic stories, which he has adapted to a more modern and real world. The first episode focuses on political issues and a direct attack on feminist groups by a group of activists who are now fighting for men's rights and who are also helping a villain. On the other hand, and in the same vein, the Creature Commandos' mission is to protect American interests because of their interest in oil, which has unleashed this whole conflict that may or may not end in a war. The second episode manages to have three important things in favor of its plot: it goes deeper into the main conflict, then details the story in more depth, the origin of The Bride, and finally sets out what direction the mission will take. The third episode presents us with a flashback of what G-I-Robot has been since its creation and why it is considered a danger to humanity. The animation, while good, is nothing new. We have already seen this type of design in Warner Studios Animation's animated films for some years now, only now it has the bonus of being explicitly more violent. The character designs are intended to be like an animated vignette with CGI backgrounds when presenting its action sequences, which are very well done. The flaw here is that we again see Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad but with another name and other characters. It is disappointing that Gunn uses a comfort zone to his advantage, which he is already used to and which has worked for him according to the team and context he handles. Something simple so as not to go into so many details and which serves only to link facts and situations with the main project, which is the Superman movie. Following this, the series regrettably and pretentiously stumbles over its narrative rhythm, which leaves things unfinished to complete others. Its format and duration, which ranges between 20 and 27 minutes in length, interrupt what we want to continue watching, a strategy that ensures that as viewers we are hooked on watching it week after week, which in turn increases the number of followers and subscribers to the platform. Its structure also has a design that we have seen before, directors Matt Peters and Sam Liu alternate the episodes trying to make them have a symmetry that is very identifiable, while one focuses more on the drama and the other focuses on the action, something that could well be an exercise that works in another medium but that here poses its own rules. The voice cast is made up of Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, Frank Grillo, Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Peter Serafinowicz, Benjamin Byron Davis, and Viola Davis who do a great job with these characters, who understand, develop and deepen with the dialogues written by Gunn. The music is composed by Kevin Kiner and Clint Mansell who return to work with Gunn after their time on the Peacemaker series with new songs that, although none of them are completely outstanding, do not go unnoticed, the help of classic songs such as the opening theme is a new version of the song Moliendo café by Venezuelan Hugo Blanco, now performed by the Romani band Fanfare Ciocărlia. In conclusion, Creature Commandos works halfway as a worthy opening for a new universe, something incoherent but that works under its context and that, although it does not disappoint, it does not meet the expectations that were had of this new DCU. Let's hope that the episodes that follow conclude in a good way and that we have better projects in the future. Creature Commandos is now available on the Max platform. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdahDEpqPA8 Read the full article

MARDI 18 JUIN 2024 (Billet 3 / 4)
« VICE-VERSA 2 » (1h 36min)

Dare To Roam Launch Campaign from JM Blay on Vimeo.
NYC-based agency Harper + Scott approached us to create an animation for the launch campaign of Dare to Roam (DTR), a new accessories brand specialising in antimicrobial bags founded by Ciara Princess Harris and themselves.
The idea was to create a beautiful and dynamic animation to show the antimicrobial technology used to make the bags. By infusing the textiles with titanium dioxide and silver chloride technology, they create a dependable shield that inhibits the growth and reproduction of bacteria, mould, and mildew, keeping their users safer for longer.

So, I am gonna bring back my list of why I think JK loves JM and JK being a giant marshmallow, in general. Since I have seen so many peeps throughout the weeks say that JK is uncomfortable, JK doesn't like JM, JK only does fanservice with JM, etc. I thought it would be nice to see what I think he actually is: a human being. I know shocking, right lol.
So, let's go! (Of course, these are my opinions. You don't have to agree with all of them, but do not make me feel less for believing in them. Please. Thank you.)
JK is a known starer. The members know it, ARMYs know it. However, I have never seen him stare at another member like he does JM. His eyes literally sparkle when he looks at him. He stares at him like he is his sun to his sunflower. I mean I think he thinks JM hung up the moon and sung the stars into existence himself. Man, I need someone to look at me like that.
Everytime JM does something cute you can practically see him melt in the background.
His nose scrunches up into the biggest bunny smile I think I will ever see, then he proves me wrong when another member makes him laugh. He throws his body back when he laughs and it only makes me smile in joy to see him show his happiness that openly with us. I am positive I remember him at the beginning of BTS, he wasn't that loud with his laugh or expressing his joy. When I see him now, it makes me melt to see him feel comfortable in himself, in the members, and in us, his fans, to show us that part of himself.
I cannot get over how he will talk so gently to not only animals but also inanimate objects. Watching him talk and bounce after that frog in ITS, was frankly cute as hell. Him bending down to talk to a bug, pretty sure it was a caterpillar, made me realize how young his soul feels to me.
Actually, while I am on this, I want to talk about a theory I saw passed around that made me instantly think of JK. The theory is about how this is JK's soul's very first time at life. And that's why he is so amazed by everything and it looks like he is discovering new things all the time.
For example, the animal and inanimate object thing.
Another example would be how his eyes literally glow when watching fireworks. It's like everytime is his first time catching a glimpse of them. I wish I had that view of this world, to be honest.
A third example is how he will look at his hand as if he is discovering it for the first time ever. If you have seen this, then it is the cutest thing I have seen.
Moving on, I love how he clearly loves all of his hyungs. You can see it in how it physically and mentally hurts him to see them in pain. He keeps things to himself when he sees them suffer.
You can see it in how he will mess around and rough house with Jin. Seeing them kick at each other is the funniest thing to witness because I do that with my younger brother.
You can see it in how much he looks up to and respects RM as a leader and a hyung. He trusted him when he joined in and I am sure that has only solidified over time.
You can see it in how he knows Yoongi will let him get away with anything. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that JK at one time was the only one to have the key/password to Yoongi's studio. If that doesn't scream trust, then I don't know what does.
You can see it in how he loves to show so much skinship with Hobi. I feel he looks up to Hobi for advice and loves to make him laugh and smile. Seeing them interact is so lovely and I enjoy ever moment of it.
You can see it in how he and Tae are trying to build back their relationship. While watching their ITS conversation, it broke my heart to realize that this had happened. And the audacity of people to believe that this is fake. Excuse me and my language, but fack you. Tae and JK don't need you or that attitude. However, being given the chance to see it grow once more is beautiful and amazing. I can't wait to see more cute moments between the two.
Now, here is the biggest one, in my opinion. I don't know if all those who say JK hates JM or is uncomfortable with JM are stupid or what. Have you watched him in the beginning with JM? Have you watched how he wasn't that big with overt skinship, especially with JM? How he would push him away when he felt it was too much? Obviously, I don't believe in any of the bullshit that states that JK hated or hates JM. It was pretty obvious that JK just wasn't that affectionate on camera in the beginning. (Pretty sure it was JM that stated that JK is more touchy off camera with him.). JK has grown into himself throughout the years and we can see it clearly through how much he shows of himself. If JK wasn't comfortable, then JM would know and back off or JK would push him off. Simple as that. He is a grown man and he knows how to stand up for himself, especially with people who he has been with for years. JM would also recognize when he is pushing a boundary. He has shown that he won't do that to JK, especially when he tells him to back off.
A favorite of mine is how consistent JK was when turning to JM with whole body when he is talking. Yes, he may have done it with the other members, but never to the degree he has done it with JM. And that is pretty significant in my books. To show somebody that you have their full attention, even in front of thousands upon thousands of fans, is beautiful and very, well, showing of their close relationship, in my opinion.
I love how I can see at times JK fall further into love or fall all over again when JM does something.
I love how JM feels safe enough to jump casually in JK's arms and JK just accepting it like it is the usual.
I love how JK and JM are synched up when dancing. It shows that while the members all practice together, they also spend a lot of time practicing between just them two. To see them, fling their head back, flick their wrist at a certain point, dip your shoulder at a specific angle, and pump your chest at the beat is amazing.
I love how JK obviously is JM's cook. I mean Jin said it himself. Just look at the recent RUN episode where it looks like he was trying to help JM,even though they were on different teams. Also, wasn't it JM that said that he is a great dishwasher. Ain't that something. Well, another piece is added to the puzzle that is JK and JM.
I love how JK would close his eyes when JM would put his hand on him.
I love how JK knows where exactly to rub JM to help him with his pains.
I love how JK tried to cheer up JM when he cried during that concert. JK telling him it's okay to cry and then immediately moving to check on him once his speech is done. I also remember him doing something silly to make him laugh?
I love how JK wears big clothes and he doesn't care what gender the clothes are geared towards. He will wear it and he will wear comfortably and with pride. I loved seeing him in that modernized hanbok. He looked positively stunning. He also at times looks like a marshmallow man.
I love how JK is willing to lose, so that JM can win.
I love how JK willing lost a game to room with JM.
I love how JK's first official gift he gave was to JM.
I love how JK is so confident with himself on stage. Not to be confused with arrogance or how he is ofd stage.
I love how he dotes on JM like he is the hyung and not the dongsaeng of the relationship.
I love how he sweetly planned a trip with JM and secretly created a video to present to him and the world.
I love how he and JM made Serendipity their song.
Honestly, I could go on and on about this man. I am Jimin biased and I love how I feel as if JM showed me how much he is in love with JK throughout the years.
JK is not some toy in ship wars. He is not the fanservice gamekeeper or whatever. He is not abusive. He is not hateful. He is not an excessive liar. He is not a jealous monster. He is not arrogant. He is not a cheater. He is not uncomfortable with JM. He is not toxic. All these things are not what JK is. He is a human being and human beings are multi-faceted. He has layers to his personality. Allow him to live the way he wants. He owes us nothing, especially since he doesn't know us.
Just support him. Love him, but not blindly because he is human. Have a nice day everyone.
wow anon, this was beautiful, thank you.
This and so much more is what makes Jeon Jungkook.... Jungkook.
Jungkook is a beautiful person, complex, honest and enigmatic at times.
This and more is why many of us are in love with Jimin and Jungkook's relationship and why we don't need to label it. Why we don't need them to label it.

Jetter Mars + Ehoba collection complete!
Scanned the whole thing in a few hours yesterday and cleaned it up last night. But I was tired and decided to post them and this post tomorrow. Tomorrow is today, so here are the links. (All my other works are on archive.org as well. ) I need to re-scan anything, let me know.
Jetter Mars on Dropbox
Jetter Mars on Archive.org
I will cross post this on Twitter (@candy_sonic) and on my Kofi after I post this here.
Under the cut is the history of Jetter Mars and the manga(s) if you don't know much about it. It's a bit long so no pressure if you skip it.
In other news, I found and bought the last two Ehoba Doujinshis early this week - When You Wish Upon A Star (R-18 version) and Equal 1! I tried to combine shipping, but Star shipping out the day after I bought Equal. Not sure when they'll get here, I'm guessing by next month.
Tagging active Asto Boy and Jetter Mars fans:
@z-skull @snaileo @xblubotx @cookietastic @thelilithmachine @ab-kusoposting @eimie1
In the late 70s Osamu Tezuka, worked as director at the Toei Animation studio, wanting to continue working in animation. He proposed a remake/sequel to the 60's Astro boy called 'Mighty Mars' series which Toei approved. However, the rights to 60's AB belonged to Mushi Productions, Tezuka's anime company that went bankrupt in '73. The rights then went to it's sponsor company, Meiji Seika Kaisha, Ltd afterwards. So no official remake was possible.
He change the name to Jetter Mars and the main theme of the show was about Mars learning about the world around him and growing as a person, opposed to Astro's struggling to create a world where robots and humans could live peacefully together. There's still similarities such as Astro and Ochanomizu VA voicing Mars and Dr. Kawashimo.
Tezuka was involved in it's early development only. Toei Animation collaborated with Madhouse thus most of the animators were were ex Mushi employees. It's was translated into Italian (called 'Captain Jet') and a Spanish dub (called 'Jet Mars: The Bionic Boy') but no English dub.
Tori also owned a company called Televiland, who created Jetter Mars mangas and allowed Popy (now called Bandai) to create other JM merchandise. If you searched for Jetter Mars merch, then you seen them. Most look haunted TBF.
JM reception was not bad but not good either, with people wanting 60's AB back. Adding to that, Tezuka lost interest after 27 episodes (Less then a year) due to Toei's micro managing tactics. A few years later he obtained the rights to Astro Boy and created the remake in color - the 80's version of Astro Boy - at Tezuka Productions. This was his last Astro Boy project before his death in '89.
Jetter Mars faded in to obscurity, save a few cameos, one known one is in Astro Boy: Omega Factor (Really good game BTW) and referenced in Atom: The Beginning.
However, like most of Tezuka's lesser known works, Jetter Mars does have it's fans - and those fans are Astro Boy fans! A fansub also exist even if it's a bit wonky in places. And even the manga got reprinted back to 2019.
There's multiple versions of the manga, 4 to be exact. But the first one, created by Ikahara Shigeto (credited as Ikehara Shigeru in the manga) or Shigetoshi Ikehara is the only one to be reprinted.
Shigeto was one of Tezuka's pupils and assistant, working with him on Marvelous Melmo at Tezuka Productions in '79. Funny enough, he never worked on an Astro Boy manga but on the Rockman (Mega Man) manga's in the 90's. The only other Tezuka properties he worked on was a 3 part manga version of Marine Express (2016-2018). The vols are pretty cheap but IDK if I'll get it. I mean, does anyone really liked Marine Express like that? He mostly worked on licensed properties but he does have an webcomic called Monsieur Akashi. All the info I have about him is from the Mega Man wiki.
Again like the anime, Tezuka never worked on any versions of the manga. And as mentioned before, no version of the manga was reprinted untill 2019, Shigeto version only. Until then, the few people who was aware of any JM manga assume the was only one manga- Shigeto version- and assumed is was lost media.
The Shigeto manga adapted some of the anime episodes and thus can be considered canon. There's very little know about the other versions save a few pics so I can't talk much about them in terms of quality.
So why did they republish the manga? Who knows? Astro Boy Reboot been in the works near a decade with near nothing to show for it, so I doubt his remake/alternative series will get one anytime soon. We can only wait and see.

who animated ‘Invincible’?
so I hear there’s an Amazon superhero show called ‘Invincible’ where Bezos’s money was apparently thrown at, along with a lot of expensive voice actors, producing some pretty technically cool gory fight animation.
I was talking about it recently w alex, and naturally we wanted to know who made it (especially since she said the quality wildly varies between some quite interesting fight sequences and some jank as hell character animation in the less ‘important’ scenes)... but it’s weirdly hard to track down the animation credits online. like, it looks like they do credit the animators in the show itself, but you really have to dig into IMDB to find out, best as I can tell, that the flashier shots were probably created by Korean animators at Maven Image Platform, notably Haeyoung Jung and Minsoo Kim. more detailed research below.
Sakugabooru has some credited scenes, and some uncredited; mostly the credited scenes point to two of Maven’s animation directors Haeyoung Jung and Minsoo Kim.
What can I found out about these guys? Jung was a key animator on AtlA and Korra, meaning this can perhaps be considered a descendent of the animation tradition that began with Wonderful Days at Tin House, hen became JM Animation during AtlA and finally Studio Mir during Korra (see youtube guy The Canipa Effect for more on that story). since 2015 he’s been largely working on superhero stuff. Kim meanwhile seems to have pretty much exclusively worked on that same superhero stuff since 2014. I could speculate that that’s when Maven was founded? but their website does not have any especially useful information on their history, even if you machine translate the Korean text, and nobody else seems to have written about them.
Maven have posted some key animation, by Maeyoung Jung himself:
youtube
Maven are given a rather dismissive credit as ‘animation services’ (services like: doing the actual animation). a bunch of other companies are listed on IMDb, but the vast majority of individuals credited as key animators and animation directors are Korean names. Seems likely to be American boards animated by Koreans, as usual.
But other websites add some confusing wrinkles. First there’s this Canadian studio, Wind Sun Sky. their website makes bold claims about ‘creating the animation’ at their Vancouver and LA studios, with help from studios in japan and korea... studios which they don’t name! the korean studio must be maven, but who’s the japanese studio? what exactly did WSS, not an animation studio but a ‘transformative content company’, actually do - the storyboards? I have to assume the staff listing on their website is only the most senior staff, because it includes a couple of directors but no animators... but I suspect it’s still one of those American companies that hands it off at the storyboard stage.
who else we got? IMDb credits K&R production who did ‘animation timing’ and ‘animation check’. I can’t positively identify these guys; IMDb says they’re British, but I can only find an American VFX company which I’m fairly sure isn’t the one.
so no idea who the Japanese studio is. WSS also don’t show up on IMDb so maybe it’s incomplete.
then there’s Wikipedia, who say nothing about the production in their article, but their infobox lists ‘T.A.P.’ as the only production company on the show. so who the heck is TAP? it certainly doesn’t seem to be The Animator Project, first result on google, which is a therapeutic project rather than a production studio. all I can find is some reference to TAP as a production company appearing on MyAanimeList, seemingly having worked as an outsourcing studio on four anime series. is that the same people? are they the japanese studio cited by Wind Sun Sky?
anyway. anyway. I don’t want to necessarily make a big thing of it, because I don’t know the full story... yet, it does seem weird to see how a series that sounds like it leans quite heavily on animation to convey its story (the vast majority of commentary talks about the quality of animation and amount of violence) could just... through accident or intent, more or less bury the actual creation of that animation. no wonder it would come across as disjointed. americans have a long history of treating korean animators like machines, so it’s not surprising exactly... i don’t know what conditions were like on this show but i caught very distant rumblings that the animators aren’t happy either? (epistemic status: someone on reddit thought that some instagram posts seemed a bit off. take this with a big old grain of salt. I imagine you would need to be able to read Korean to get a decent picture.)
of course, i guess if you’re amazon you can do whatever the fuck you want.

Life goes on
Now that hospital drama is thankfully finished we can carry on with our lives meaning, we can continue our obsession over “what is next and when???”
As for the group, the last Bangtan Bomb/Episode was 5 days ago, somewhat of a lengthy time between Bombs since the “extended holiday” began. They’ve been dropping those pretty frequently until this week.
No news on the Seoul concert(s) either way, whether they are still planning to proceed or not. No ticket sales announcements that I know of.
The Grammys getting postponed sort of threw a kink in the calendar I guess, they ran out of content that was supposed to tide us over til end of January. (Imagines the content producers furiously gleaning all the raw footage looking for more crumbs to throw us...HEY! how about those missing Mingukkie moments from ITS2??? JK massaging JM’s shoulders???? Show us JK going to wake Jimin up!!!!)
I know, in our wildest dreams...
Yes we did get the Stay Alive teaser verse and it was excellent. Kookie’s voice is heavenly. Wishing/hoping we’d get an official animated MV for it.
And yes, they’ve been subtly dropping hints about being in the recording studio.
Something is coming soon. Hobi’s mixtape? Wonder if his recent road trip is associated with shooting MV footage for it. Probably not because he would be keeping it top secret. But my imagination can run wild too.
