When you were younger, you frequented the famous The Last Drop in the undercity, where you became friends with a small group of somewhat brothers. You frequented that bar because, apart from the fact that they had a delicious tomato juice that you had never tasted anywhere else, there was a certain pinkhead girl who had accepted you into the group and integrated you into it as if you had always been part of it.

You both had very different personalities, while she was hard, determined and direct, you were more quiet and reserved in certain aspects. And yet, you complemented each other perfectly. You admired her a lot, or so you thought.

Little by little, you both grew to trust each other. You frequented her space, she invited you on adventures with her group and she told you things she couldn't tell her younger sister or her brothers.

You wanted to mentally beat yourself up when you realized that you no longer saw Vi as a friend, but that you were beginning to feel a certain attraction to her. They were confusing feelings for you at the age you were. You never said anything because you finally had a friend you felt you could count on and you didn't want to spoil your friendship with those silly feelings you were sure you could ignore.

One day, the subway city seemed to go to hell and was covered in mourning. Vander passed away and you never heard from the boys, Powder or Vi again.

You attended to one last customer as you escorted him to the door, said goodbye in a light whisper and closed the door as you turned the Closed sign. After your mother's passing, leaving you completely alone in the undercity, you took over your business, a humble junkyard frequented, as far as you knew, by some of Silco's henchmen.

Leaning on the counter, you noticed that one of the shelves was missing a few knick-knacks, and frowning you realized that the wretch had stolen them. You cursed to yourself as you lightly tapped the counter. Since that day had been hard days for you, you were facing the world all alone. You knew that Powder, or Jinx, as she now called herself, was “fine”, but you still knew nothing about the others, not even Ekko, with whom you had exchanged a few words.

You heard knocking at the door. “Closed, it says so on the sign” you shouted from inside the shop as you finished packing up. Still, the knocking did not stop.

Snorting, you headed for the door, opening it in complete anger. “It's closed! Don't you know how-” you shut up when you saw the person in front of you. That totally unmistakable pink hair, the freckles on her nose and her powder blue eyes staring straight at you. “Vi?” you muttered in a whisper. You felt her arms wrap around you tightly, and you still confused, it took you a little while to return her embrace.

You felt the warmth of her body against yours hit you full on, and you definitely felt like you were going to burst into tears. She was so beautiful, grown up, more grown up, stronger, more everything.

“Where were you all this time?” you mumbled asking into the crook of her neck, still not letting go of her arms. “Stillwater” she replied in a whisper, still wrapping her arms around you. You stood for a while longer holding each other, you had needed this for a long time, and to be honest, you had to hold back the urge you had to cry.

“You're... so changed” she murmured once she broke away, looking you up and down, ending up in your eyes. You let out a giggle.

“Not you, you look the same. You have the same punk face you had seven years ago” you joked with her while you gave a light tap on her arm, noticing how stiff it was. Seeing her made you feel strange, you felt the same as when you were little, you still had that feeling towards her, but it was possible that having seen her again after so many years, had increased those feelings. “How did you get out of jail? And why did they arrest you in the first place?” in Zaun the word was spreading fast, but from that day on you shut yourself away from taking care of your mother and the store, you didn't know anything about what had happened. Vi gave you a brief summary, told you everything that happened that day and how it all went. You couldn't believe what you were hearing, a piece inside you shattered as you learned of your friends' passing.

“And about how I got out...let's just say the council got me out” you arched an eyebrow at her response. What would the council want her for?

The door burst open. A girl, who looked about your age, blue hair and slanted sky coloured eyes, appeared in this one. You frowned, for she did not look like someone proper from Zaun, despite her robes.

“Vi? You got it?” the girl spoke to the girl. Confused, you looked at her.

“Have what?” you asked, looking at your once friend. She looked at you, you watched as she swallowed, and when she was about to speak, the taller one cut her off.

“Information. About Jinx” your gaze shifted to the stranger. Her gaze towards you, while trying to be neutral, you could sense a bit of distaste in it. You didn't understand anything, but what you did seem to understand was that they knew each other.

“Give me a few minutes, cupcake” you felt something inside you snap a little more. the taller one snorted and walked out of the store again, slamming the door behind her. What's wrong with her? you asked yourself, still staring at the door.

“Who is she?” you asked in a whisper.

“Caitlyn Kiramman, the officer who pulled me out of Stillwater” Vi replied as she shrugged her shoulders. You mumbled lightly. You had a lot of questions.

“Cupcake?” you asked in a mocking tone, though to be honest, you hadn't been the least bit amused. A few years ago it had been you she called in that nickname, “because you were so sweet, like a cupcake” she had once told you. “Are you with a piltoverian?” you asked, this time, raising your voice a little higher than you would have liked.

“What?” Vi shrugged. “What's your problem? It's not like you released me from prison, honey” she teased wryly as she looked directly at you. At this point, you got the feeling that Vi had forgotten her entire past, or at least a past where you belonged in her life. Years ago you thought she might reciprocate your feelings, perhaps. Now it was clear that had never been the case for her.

“Go away. I don't have any information from Jinx. Ask somewhere else” you spoke softly. You really were out of strength to fight. You didn't want to, at least not with her. Taking her by the shoulder you accompanied her to the door, and opening it, without saying goodbye, you slammed the door once she set foot on the street. You closed the door with every possible lock.

“Anything?” ”Nothing. Never mind, we'll ask at the brothel” after those murmurs on the other side of the wall, you couldn't help but feel your tears start to fall one after the other more and more abundantly. You felt a pressure in your chest, you felt full of guilt. You were alone again, with your heart hanging in your hands.

You thought maybe you had overreacted, that you shouldn't have treated Vi like that after not having seen her for so many years, but your feelings got the better of you.

And once again, you decided to disengage from the issue and whatever happened from that point on.

One more day in your routine, you closed the store once the last customer of the day had already walked through the door to go out into the street. As usual, you swore on the sign indicating that the store was closed to the public, and began to sweep and tidy up the shop to have it ready for the next day first thing in the morning.

The last six months had been an odyssey for you. You did not stop hearing everywhere you went about the return of Vi, about everything that was happening in the city above and especially what was happening with Jinx. You stayed on the sidelines, even though wherever you went you were gathering information.

You had been thinking a lot during this time, thinking about the pinkhead and how everything could have been different if only the Piltover girl had not been there. You didn't blame Vi, you knew she had every right to hang out with whomever she wanted, but you couldn't help but feel angry and jealous at the slightest thought that she would never be with you.

You heard a knock at the door. You sighed, you were not in the mood for this kind of nonsense. You ignored the knocking, the sign was clear, they would notice. Even though you kept sweeping and cleaning, the knocking didn't stop and your patience was limited. Just as you were about to say something to the person who kept insisting, the sound of the door opening startled you. You turned to complain, but you saw her.

She was significantly changed. Her pink hair was badly dyed a very dark black color, and her eyes were made up in a totally disastrous way. She was dressed in black and several bandages covered various parts of her body. You frowned at the sight of her looking like that.

“Did you fall in a puddle of oil?” you asked as you went back to your work. You heard her snort. Glancing sideways at her you noticed she was wobbling a bit, and taking a couple of steps forward, she looked like she was almost going to fall, leaning against the counter. You put the broom aside and approached her, the smell of alcohol becoming more and more present. “Have you been drinking?” you asked. She simply nodded. You snorted a little and bit your tongue.

You slipped one of her arms over your shoulder, and holding her by the waist, guided her to the back of the store to go upstairs to your apartment. She stumbled over her own feet as she walked, making your steps clumsy as you climbed the stairs. She mumbled things you couldn't understand, but she seemed hurt, for some reason.

Once you got up to the apartment, you directed her to the living room to sit her carefully on the couch. She looked at everything with curiosity, and in silence, you went to the kitchen to bring her a glass of water. You held the glass out to her and she, with a murmur of thanks, took a sip.

“It hasn't changed a bit...” she murmured still observing the humble decor of your living room. “And your mother? How is she?” he asked awkwardly. You didn't answer, didn't even look at her, just shrugged. Vi got the message right away. “I'm sorry, I shouldn't- fuck, sorry” she mumbled setting aside the glass.

“Why did you drink so much?” you asked leaning against the back of the couch. Vi did the same, settled back and let out a sigh. She even seemed to find it hard to speak. “Drink water” you took the glass again and held it out to her. She heeded and took another sip.

“Things aren't going well...” she muttered. You knew what she was talking about, nothing was right when a war between two cities was about to explode.

“Something I heard” you simply mentioned. Vi looked at you. The only thing she thought when she looked at you was that the dim light coming through the window really fell in a very angelic way on your body. She always thought you were a jewel in the rough, someone who didn't have to belong to this city, someone who deserved better from everything life had given her. “Your girlfriend? All good with her?” when she heard those words come out of your mouth she frowned and growled.

“No,” she replied. She didn't add anything else. You didn't want to ask either, you supposed that also added to things not going well.

“I'm sorry” you mumbled. You weren't sorry. If you had to be honest, you were kind of glad it hadn't worked out with that girl. The atmosphere was starting to feel tense as you weren't talking anymore. You listened to Vi take sip after sip of water. She started to sit up a bit, you took it for granted that she was starting to sober up and become more aware of the situation.

Still silent, you felt her head rest on your shoulder. “You don't know how much i've missed you all these years” she murmured. You felt her hair brush against your cheek, and you couldn't help but fall into nostalgia, letting your cheek rest against her head. “I've missed you so much too, Vi...” you felt her hand brush against yours before taking her fingers in yours. Her hand was warm, unlike yours, which always had cold fingers. You enjoyed the warmth her body emanated, closing your eyes slightly, enjoying the company you both gave each other.

For her part, Vi during her stay in Stillwater, always dreamed of a scenario similar to this, without the alcohol and tragedies in between. Just you and her sharing such a sweet moment as you were doing at that moment. Ever since she was little she had always felt a certain attraction to you, you were always so sweet and positive that she felt you two complemented each other perfectly. You could say that her heart melted a little more when, that same night, instead of kicking her out of your tent, you offered her your help and shelter.

“Thank you, for everything” she murmured still leaning against you, stroking the back of your hand with her thumb. You felt, hearing her voice so calm, your heart skip a beat.

“You don't have to give them away. I wasn't going to let you down, you're my Vi” you murmured back. The girl couldn't help but smile. Your Vi. She was yours.

“And you're my cupcake” you rolled your eyes, letting out a chuckle.

“That's not so clear to me, cutie” you joked, referencing that it was the same nickname she had used with her ex.

“You’re mine too” Vi sat up on the couch, both of them very close to each other. Her eyes connected with yours and you both became lost in each other's gaze. Placing her hand on your chin, she brought her lips to yours, leaving a small kiss on them. You felt a slight shiver run down your spine. You had just experienced what you always wanted, and in such a sweet way, that you could only think you were dreaming. But when Vi started kissing you one after another, feeling her lips on yours, you knew it was real. You reciprocated each of the kisses Vi gave you sweetly, and as you parted, you both looked at each other and laughed lightly.

“You don't know how long I wanted to do this,” Vi said leaning her head back against the back of the couch, looking directly at you as she kept smiling, her cheeks rosy.

“You don't know how long I've waited for you to do this” you leaned against her, leaving a kiss on her cheek. “I've always liked you, you know? These years have been torture...to think you could have been-” Vi stopped you when you felt her hand on your cheek, caressing it in the sweetest way possible.

“Time has passed, and I'm already here. And I'm not going to move from your side.” you smiled at the girl's words. You took it as a correspondence.

After the storm you were finally starting to see the sun.

While I do think Isha dying was the most obvious thing in Arcane (was anyone surprised she died? I’m curious) I do enjoy the parallels between Jinx&Isha in this scene in particular

I think it kinda parallels the explosion from ep 4 in season 1, where powder lets the bomb go lose everyone. Since Isha is meant to be a foil to young jinx

However, in comparison to Powder- Isha’s actions are most likely able to save everyone, unlike Powder. which IMO symbolises the turning of a new leaf. I mean you have this kid who is 100% innocent see the good in someone and decides to do good as well. Like the cycle of violence between the two factions (upper and under) can finally end and come together (to SOME degree, I don’t think everything will be solved in a second) against Ambessa.

It also adds onto the fact that the impact of powders explosion was kind of the final thing fkr Vander (didn’t really kill him), and how Isha kind of did the same (and most likely didn’t kill him)

OHHHH Isha, u where destined to die 100% but you’ll always be famous

uhhhh probably like, the tiny moments… like getting into the intimate details of a scene or interaction or emotion. I get a little purple prose-y sometimes but i like it :)

it takes me an inordinate amount of brain power to write passing time in a way that makes sense gjfhdhf so many of my fics are super contained so I don’t have to worry abt it but with longer ones that span across more time, I always agonize over pacing 😵‍💫

very cool! im not proficient enough in any of the ones I’ve learned to do it confidently tho lol

Let’s hate on Taylor now screaming it’s all PR, she’s all PR (we know she’s all about PR always has been).

Strange it never bothered them before like last year, earlier this year but a “fake contract” comes out and this has been backed up by actual players in the industry and Taylor is now an issue because it supports their theory about Chris.

I’m sorry but I’m still trying to see all the PR moves from Chris like Taylor is doing. You know the pap walks, the articles oh wait there isn’t many. I tell you it’s the worst PR relationship/marriage ever.

All celebrity couples do PR real or not it’s all part of the business, it keeps their name out there. Ben and JoLo did it a a lot,Ryan and Blake have just spend the last 2 months doing it to promote their movies and get her out of a shit show. Minka still does it occasionally even the couple everyone claims is private Ryan and Eva do it when required.

Of course agencies/managers etc are behind it all because that’s would keeps their clients in the public eye and makes money for everyone. It’s been like that for years and always will be. It’s the same with just about everyone that’s famous they need to be out there to be seen.

You know who you don’t see doing it are couples like RDJ/Susan or Scarlet/Colin.

So where does leave Chris and AB? Again for a PR relationship they are doing nothing to sell it.

What we had interviews beginning of August for Jinx - a product he is spokesperson for, ASP work again a site he began then before set pics which yes is PR but it wasn’t just him it was mainly for DJ but when u are filming on the streets of NY you will get papped. There are photographers who literally make their living papping round film sets. Do we get any pap pics or sightings when he was in ATL outside of work? One dinner pic that came out a year later. Last year we got a hand full of fan/restaurant/bar pics which were all fake and old 🙄)

So someone please tell me how the hell are Taylor/Travis are the same situation as Chris/ AB cause to me one is doing PR (whether real or not) and the other isn’t.

She’s clinging to the pr contract leak and Taylor and Travis being pr so she can keep pretending that she’s right about Chris. Doesn’t matter that it has been proven many times it’s a fake leak she won’t let it go. And to keep comparing Taylor to Michael Jackson is hilarious to me. Taylor is as big if not bigger and she doesn’t have allegations against her 🤔 capt needs to take a break

• living with yeonjun has got to be the most chaotic yet relaxing thing ever

• he always cooks you breakfast, and if he's not there early in the morning because of schedules he always leave u something to eat or texts you before you wake up something along the lines of,

• "good morning my love, make sure to eat."

• living with him sometimes gets a little messy, although it's always the result of a moment to be remembered whether y'all were being messy in the bedroom (if you know what i mean) or if y'all were making a mess in the kitchen throwing flour everywhere

• when he is home in the morning you always see him sleeping in the most awkward position, one half on the bed, and the other off

• he always moves around and although you don't mind cuddling with him you push him off because it gets hot at night sometimes

• yeonjun likes to act hard and tough but he is a little baby and is always all up on you at home

• if you're working from home, schooling from home, he's always somewhere in your vicinity whether is his head laying on your lap while he's scrolling on his phone or him just simply sitting across from you

• he's just ALWAYS near you, and he wishes he could just bring you everywhere he goes too includingg shows but he knows he can't

• yeonjun is usually tidy and he doesn't mind doing your laundry or folding your clothes because he likes to show his love with service, but he is also a very affectionate and touchy person and like i said

• HE LOVES BEING WITH YOU, ON YOU, IN YOU!?!?!

• usually for lunch time, you guys order take out or someone close to you guys brings food since you guys don't really like to cook because it, "takes away precious time"

• he ALWAYS has dinner in the freezer, fridge, or pantry and he loves feeding you his foods even though he definitely doesn't mind keeping it all to himself, but he just wants to make sure his baby is well fed.

• because yeonjun has busy schedules and isn't home a lot he makes sure you don't stay up waiting for him to get home

• or if he's not in the country he's just always texting you and making sure you're okay and well taken care off

• although baby can get a lil rough in the bedroom cough cough, he loves taking care of you, and making sure someone is also looking after you when he's not there

• so he might be texting your mom, sister, brother, dad, best friend or whoever it is he knows is closest to you making sure they check on you

• although, sometimes you guys get into fight

• but he NEVER goes to bed mad at you because since he usually leaves early he would regret being mad at you and leaving

• he hates ending anything on a bad note, so he always makes sure to tell you he loves you and that he's sorry if you guys fight nearing the end of the night.

• he always brings you souvenirs, especially teddy bears, and stuffed animals because when he's not home at least he knows you've got company, even though it's not real company.

• if yeonjun wasn't as famous as he was he would spend all his time with you, so any break he gets he is ALWAYS with you

• he never usually has people over except the rest of the members, and even then he'd rather just be alone with you since he see's them almost everyday

• he's a homebody just because of you <3

• living with yeonjun has got to be the most memorable and life changing experience

• although there's ups and downs you are his whole world

hello anon, i finally compiled it all!!

1. I actually only started writing it down around Miami/Barcelona so you don’t get the start of the season and I missed Austria (the best races, I’m awful).

2. I will only choose the best ones here and put the rest under the cut for those interested.

3. One of our comms is a professional journalist, the other drives for Ferrari in gt3 and used to drive in F3 and F2 hoping to get to Ferrari one day before having a big crash. Please consider that bias when reading these, thank u!

One of our comms was p2 in gp2 in Monaco and they told him for podium he first needs to go backstage and "meet Prince Charles". - "You mean Prince Albert?" - "Oh right, Charles is not prince YET."

The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion - 如意芳霏

okay so i’m back with my recent finished drama! and guess what? i’m totally in love with this drama🥰 i can’t even describe how! so this drama reunited the couple lead from 2018 drama titled Legend of Yunxi. starred by Ju Jingyi as Fu Rong and Zhang Zhehan as Prince slash Duke Su (the subtitle mentioned Duke instead of Prince peeps) or Xu Jin. i didn’t follow or even knew this drama exist till i saw a bit of the drama clip where Fu Rong was chased by Ju Shui’s guards and got saved by Duke Su on instagram and contemplating whether should i watch cause i’ve another on going drama but ends up watching it and completely topped others of my on going list! so without further ado, the story started at Fu’s Residence where Fu Rong was staring at her lil bro’s fish kite that stuck on a tree. she was trying to get away (from climbing the tree) with responsibility blabbering but failed😂 then she offered to buy her brother new kite but Guan Ge (her lil bro) refused and she finally agreed to help her bro to take the kite then went up to the tree. she finally almost reached the kite but suddenly her father appear on the scene which made her surprised and she fell off the tree. she scratched her hand and broke her bracelet (the bracelet was a gift from her master named Liu Ruyi who is also the owner of Ruyi Pavilion) day has changed to night and Fu Rong went to sleep. she often foresee something bad that will happen when she’s dreaming and always want to change that thing. she dreamed an accident will happen on Yuedan commentary by Ju Shui. Ju Shui is a famous writer slash Fu Rong’s childhood friend who’s also a disguised figure by Duke An the younger brother of the current Emperor (Duke Su’s father). next is about Duke Su who just got back from the front line from endless war to the capital because his dad wants him to investigate the corruption that’s currently happening in the capital. Duke Su is an outcast who got foreseen as a bad luck and short life when he was born. Duke Su has enemies everywhere as he just got back to the capital because of the rumor circling and also because he’s investigating the corruption case. he got invited bu Ju Shui to the Yuedan commentary, and the bad things who was foreseen by Fu Rong will happen to Duke Su (𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁! no worries peeps, Fu Rong saved Duke Su!) a day before the event, Fu Rong tried to investigate the place which placed at Ju Shui Pavilion, but end up got chased by his guards😂 (the scene that made me watch this drama HAHAHA-unimportant, skip!) before the chasing scene, Fu Rong disguised as a man slash fortune-teller and built a stall in front of Ju Shui Pavilion, Duke Su arrived and came to the stall cause he wanted to find out whether he will die young or not. Fu Rong said Duke Su is bless with wealth and will get noble rank also have a long life. she ran-away to get her main intention done but failed and got chased. at the almost end of the chasing scene, she spread some powder to the guards so they’ll become temporary blind but it fireback at her so when almost got caught, Duke Su saved her! they went to somekind of river(?) and chit a bit of chat also his face almost got discovered by Fu Rong and she also warned him to not join the Yuedan commentary because a disaster will happen, then left her after. the day where the commentary held arrived, they finally met again. Fu Rong found out something was strange on the top of the hall because it was the only spot that’s clean when the others are dirty. the event started and a block dropped right infront of Duke Su but Fu Rong saw someone cutting a rope before then rushed toward Duke Su and saved him! before she run away, Duke Su caught her hand and said “it’s you again” (he recognized Fu Rong because of yesterday fortune-telling things but not Fu Rong obviously because Duke Su was wearing a hat that covered his face). after he spoke, Fu Rong recognized the voice and knew he was the man that almost kill her yesterday. Duke Su presume Fu Rong wanted to kill him at the beginning, not only Duke Su that has negative thoughts, Fu Rong also take Duke Su as a jinx. after they clear their misunderstanding on each other, they keep accidentally bumped into each other unintentionally and fell in love with each other. okay imma gonna stop it’s getting too long here🥴

i really love the lovey-dovey of Duke Su and Fu Rong and hate the fights between them (well of course, i mean who would want the couple to fight rite peeps😌) the same kind of fight at Yunxi is happening again in this drama i tell u dat. let’s not forget about Fu Rong’s big sis Fu Xuan and one of Duke Su’s trusted man Wu Baiqi love story too. i really appreciated small detail provided by the production team, at the beginning of new faces there’ll be an introduction of the character. to me it really helped a lot. i love the lead characters especially Fu Xuan, she’s such a precious sister. how the Fu’s sister cares for each other is really touching (reminds me of my sis🥺). let’s not forget Duke An that’s very cunning in this drama, he love nong nong (Fu Rong’s little name at home) also try to kill Duke Su because he thought Duke Su killed his mom and try to split Duke Su and Fu Rong along the drama with dirty tricks (it’s getting worser in every episode) - if only Duke An was as cute as he is on the spin-off episodes i would not resist to find him cute🤪

find out what’s going to happen next urself! if u guys haven’t watch it and plans to watch it, please do so! i hope u guys enjoy the drama like i did!

BACKGROUND:

The aurors is very much a family business for the Bishops. For over five generations, the Department of Aurors has not went without at least one Bishop in its rank, and quite often it was much more than that. Having a family so closely interwoven into the department, meant several renowned American aurors were well acquainted with the family. Martin Hattori and his family were regular attendees at the Bishop Family Christmas, as well as other famous names such as the Henshawes and the Cranes. Harlow’s mother’s side would be prestigious in its own right, with her mother hailing from the Department of Magical Security, and her aunt, Imelda Hawthorne, serving the department as a beast medical examiner.

With such a long and storied history with the aurors, Harlow’s career path had never been an option for them, since childhood they along with their identical twin, Willow, were trained for a future that had already been chosen for them. Willow took to this training like a fish to water, the Bishop gene flowing strong through her veins. Harlow struggled immensely. They were never the athletic type, always too slow to the draw, much preferring to take their time and do as they pleased.

Their lack of skill never mattered though, they were going to become an auror, that didn’t mean they had to be a great one. It wasn’t until Ilvermorny when they found their true passion, that of alchemy. Alchemy took time, it meant hours of great study, and knowing the in’s and out’s of the various earthly metals and their magical properties. It didn’t require great athletic ability and skill, it required a studied and focused mind. And Harlow loved it.

Still that didn’t matter, they were a Bishop, and while yes alchemy could be a hobby of their’s, something that could no doubt help them in their future career, it would not be their livelihood. Willow, perfect and strong Willow, would continue to be the epitome of Bishop excellence. She’d go on to be the president of the Dueling Club, a master in her DADA class, and the apple of their parents’ eye. To say Harlow resented their sister, would perhaps be too strong a word, but jealous? That they were full of.

Still, the twins got along as well as most siblings. They were close, but not one another’s best friends by any stretch of the imagination. They led different lives for the most part, until school ended and they were both set out on the same path once more. The Cody Auror Academy would be the twins’ next destination, and there the two’s differences in abilities became only more apparent. While Willow excelled, Harlow got by, only truly succeeding in their potions courses. It was in these courses though, that they learned of a job that sounded right up their alley. Alchemy and potion specialists were a growing occupation within the Department of Aurors. Most divisions had at least one, and each of the four major squads had one of their own as well. Spending the majority of their day solving alchemical puzzles sounded like their dream occupation, and so Harlow suddenly found themself more invested in their auror training.

After graduation, the twins would be set out on different paths once again. Willow would be hired straight into the Mountain Squad as a recruit, while Harlow would find a job working out of the Colorado Auror Division. It was outside of their sister’s imposing shadow where Harlow would truly come into their own. They would never become a great dueler, but their skill in potions and alchemy helped earn them a highly regarded spot on the team as their go-to auror for cases involving the branch of magic. This skill, after seven years in the division, would eventually help them get into a squad of their own. But it wasn’t the Mountain Squad who had come offering them the promotion that got them one step closer to their goal, but rather the Central, the very squad their aunt worked as its beast medical examiner.

Their relationship with their sister would grow distant as the years wore on, even with both twins working for squads of their own. They rarely saw one another except for family holidays, and when they did it was amicable but not much else. On some days it was easy for Harlow to forget they even had a twin- that was until they looked down at the coiling black rat snake on their forearm. The tattoos were a spur of the moment decision on the night of their graduation from the auror academy. Both of them a little in their cups, had decided to mark the event with matching tattoos. Harlow, though, being the alchemist they were, wanted to get ones that came with an enchantment in the ink. The enchantment they’d settled on involved that of distress signals woven with a bonding spell. What this meant for the tattoos was that each twin would get a black rat snake on the arm, Willow’s on the left, and Harlow’s on the right. If one twin should ever be in danger, then the tattoo would appear on the other twin’s arm. With both going out into dangerous positions of their own, they decided it would be the perfect enchantment to get.

For twelve years Harlow would bear their tattoo, but their left arm would remain ink free. It was a comforting charm to have, even if they weren’t as close as they once were, it was nice knowing wherever Willow was, that she was safe and thriving. That would change, however, six months ago, when suddenly Harlow awoke to find her left arm bearing their sister’s tattoo. They immediately called the Mountain Squad, seeking information on their sister’s whereabouts, but were instructed that whatever their sister was doing, was classified- even for Harlow. It would be two agonizing weeks later, when the news hit of the missing aurors that Harlow would learn the truth of their sister’s whereabouts.

The twelve missing aurors were all pulled from the Mountain Squad, President Ortega’s former squad. Willow along with eleven others had been sent on a rescue mission to gather fleeing muggleborns from the country who was collapsing into chaos. Six months later, little information has come back about their sister, but Willow’s tattoo remains on their arm. An Extremely Detailed Guide to Writing A Character In DC

hey what’s up its ur gal queen morgaine comin atcha live with another Extremely Detailed Guide!

in the wake of shows like veep and house of cards, tons of political and adjacent characters have sprung up round the rpc, many of whom live in Our Nation’s Capital™. i’ve seen guides for how to write characters that live in nyc, la, san francisco and lots of other places, but not for how to write characters that live in dc. but Fear Not! i live here! i’ve been living here for well over five years! i can’t wait to leave!

so here is a LONG-- and i DO mean LONG-- list of Spicy DC Shibboleths you can use to make your character realistic, straight from the mouth of a grudging native. ready?

IF YOUR CHARACTER’S IN DC, THEY SHOULD....

use the metro. the metrorail, called ‘the metro’ by locals, is our version of the t ( boston, ) the tube ( london ) or the subway ( nyc, ) and most locals rely on it to get from point a to point b. much like the other commuter systems listed above, most people use a plastic card, called a SMARTRIP CARD, to pay for fare, which is anywhere from $2 to $6 depending on the time of day. ( the metro charges more for ‘peak hours,’ which is the afternoon / rush hour time period between four and eight pm. ) the metro has numerous stops all throughout washington dc proper, maryland and virginia, and we usually refer to the lines on it by their colour ( eg red, yellow, green. ) unless your character is the queen of sheba and gets carried by servants or has Nerves of Steel and drives everywhere, they probably use the metro to get where they need to go.

.....complain about the metro. this is a huge one. however much your character currently complains about the metro? it’s not enough. they need to complain more. for a system supposed to make travelling easier, the metro sure is awful at working consistently. the metro is a dumpster fire on wheels. and there is always some Bulled Shite going on with it, i promise you. your character’s train is late. your character’s train stopped for no reason on the way to a station. some drunk frat bros from au just got on and they’re being loud and drunk. it’s late and the trains are only running every twenty minutes. your character’s metro track might Literally catch fire. the train your character thought was their train dumped them out at a certain stop and now they have to wait fifteen minutes for another one. the metro SUCKS and we ALL hate it, but we’re STILL Beholden to get on it every Focking day to try to go to work or school because Deep In Our Heart of Hearts, we know that driving here is way worse. so yeah, we accept our fates to get on the HellRail9000 every day, but we’re gonna bitch about it the whole time.

probably not live in dc proper. ‘but queen morgaine, my character is a sexy rich 54-year-old illustrious powerlez politician! she has to have the Best Pad around for miles!!’ i hear ya ( also, is she single? ) but The Fact of The Matter Is, it’s really hard to find somewhere to live in dc proper for a multitude of reasons. for one thing, it’s WICKED expensive. ( though that also means, of course, if your character is loaded, don’t worry about this part. ) for another, dc has succumbed to a terrible gentrification problem, which means that more and more regions in the city are being forcibly transformed in order to make them ‘nicer’ for young up-and-comers, displacing longtime residents in the process. it’s Not Unheard Of for your character to live in dc proper, but it would be more realistic for them to live in its outskirts instead ; and people who live in surrounding areas all say they live in dc anyway. popular areas ( especially for politicians or other well-off characters ) include:

bethesda, maryland. the $8 Coffee Snob Epicentre of the dc metro area. LOTS of rich people here. expensive to live in. tons of Chic Fancy Restaurants, lots of cutesy expensive boutique shops ( like sugarfina, lululemon, anthropologie and sweetgreen ) lots of wealthy older ladies walking dogs in Athleisure. very expensive and prestigious private schools here too, like stone ridge and sidwell friends school, but also a few very large public ones, such as bethesda-chevy chase ( bcc. ) the national institute of health headquarters are also here. probably your top-tier best bet for a rich or otherwise Well-Off character. about fifteen minutes into dc proper via metro.

chevy chase, maryland. super nice, though a little on the Pricey side. people here tend to be more Modest about their money, so this area is pretty affluent, it’s not as hoity-toity as bethesda. awesome shopping-- right next to friendship heights in dc, which has lots of high-end stores like jimmy choo, bloomingdale’s, whole foods, etc. about five to ten minutes to friendship heights, fifteen to twenty minutes via metro into downtown dc. ( it’s also right next to the region with the same name in dc. )

kensington and garett park, maryland. i used to live here!! quiet and VERY cute. kensington has an adorable historic district down a hill, with a tea room and 'antique row,’ a block of vintage shops. east of bethesda, about ten minutes there by car. beautiful brightly-coloured victorian houses here. has a Small Town Feel and lots of kid-friendly Wholesome activities, so lots of older people and families with young kids live in these areas. huge beautiful art and music venue, strathmore, is here as well. about thirty-five to forty minutes into dc proper via metro.

arlington, virginia. i don’t go here very often so i can’t Vouch for it as hard but my dad used to work here so i’ll try. probably the most Work-Focused and Capital-G Government area outside dc. mid-tier expensive, but not a whole lot to do other than work or go to school from the Overwhelming Presence of federal buildings, colleges, and businesses here which makes it a less popular choice. big area, proximity to dc ranges depending on what part of arlington you’re in-- anywhere from five or ten minutes or half an hour away via metro.

alexandria, virginia. sort of like arlington, but prettier. i don’t go here much either, but it’s also a popular choice for those working in dc but wanting to stay in virginia. its Main Hangout, old town alexandria, sits right on the potomac waterfront, and supplies most of the area’s non-work activities. has lots of ~Small Town Charm~, cute bars and restaurants and a couple niche museums, like the apothecary musuem. lots of bakeries here as well. also mid-tier expensive. about forty minutes away from dc via metro.

if your character isn’t a rich politician or is otherwise just Dead-Set on living IN dc, here are some popular areas in the city itself, from most to least expensive.

georgetown. EASILY the Most Elite, Absolute Ritziest and overall Top-Tier Prestigious neighbourhood in the district. means most of its denizens are wealthy snobs, and the cost of living here is astronomical-- if bethesda has $8 coffee, georgetown’s are $8.50, before tax. georgetown is very hilly, full of townhouses and paved with cobblestones, so your character will probably do a lot of walking and stair-climbing. it’s always busy, and even though the snobby people irritate me every time i go, the shops ( lush!! sephora!! dr. martens!! ) and 700 bakeries with adorable treats ( sprinkles cupcakes!! baked and wired!! ) keep me from staying away completely.

jinx proof, a wicked good tattoo parlour, is here as well!!

downtown dc. probably what you think of when you think of ‘washington dc,’ because most of what makes dc dc is down here, as you might imagine. has the capitol building, most of the museums, chinatown, the white house and ford’s theatre. SUPER expensive because of this.

dupont circle. my personal favourite area of dc, just a few minutes down the block from downtown. lots of great food and shopping-- fantom comics, my favourite comic book store, beefsteak, a vegan restaurant are some of my Usual Haunts here. mid-tier expensive.

it’s also a historic Gaybourhood: one of the earliest lgbt protest marches and the first real dyke march Ever was held here in 1993! capital pride is also hosted here every year.

capitol hill. despite the name, not the austere, cutthroat Essence of DC Politics you’d probably think. pretty quiet, lots of row houses ( something dc is famous for, see the ‘bits and bobs’ section at the end here. ) lots of ~Indie~ businesses and coffee shops. was home to phase 1, the area’s oldest lesbian bar, till it closed in 2016 ( rip mama!!!! ) mid-to-lower-tier expensive.

u street / cardozo. ah, U Street, my Other Home. great food here, like sugar shack donuts and ben’s chilli bowl. but u street’s Star Attraction is most of dc’s music scene, most notably All Flavours of rock ( esp punk, ) indie and alternative--i spent almost all of my teenage years Cavorting About till the wee hours of the morning on school nights at concerts, parties and diy shows on u street. mid-to-lower-tier expensive.

adams morgan. also an Artsy Hangout in dc. lots of restaurants and bars, lots of Weird Shops, has the adam’s morgan festival every year. home to a gay bar, pitcher’s, and dc’s newest lesbian bar, a league of her own! mid-to-lower tier expensive.

georgia avenue / petworth. most of my friends who live in dc proper live here. not a Designated Gaybourhood but lots of gay people, there’s a lesbian party at a bar here every month. lots of animal shelters. good bar scene and ample public transport. right next to howard university, so quite student-heavy, but pretty quiet. lower-tier expensive.

takoma park. i also love it here. ~Technically~ just called takoma, but since it’s mixed with the super-close town in maryland, takoma park, locals tend to just. call it that. quiet and relaxed HippieTown, called ‘the berkeley of the east’ and ‘the people’s republic of takoma park’ with good reason-- lots of Greenie Boutique Places, lots of hybrid cars and ~Progressive~ ally lawn signs. adorable food co-op and tons of bookstores. pretty inexpensive.

none of these Jive with your character and you Really wanna get Spicy, they could could always live in baltimore and get the marc train ( another lightrail serving the dc, maryland and west virginia areas ) every day for a half-hour commute to dc.

have Opinions about food. greater dc has a very strong restaurant and food scene, made easily accessible by the metro. there’s ALWAYS something cool to eat in dc anywhere you go, and we love telling people about it.

said Food Opinions are often very divisive, and people argue their side with as much Fervour as those debating pineapple on pizza. for example, one thing people fight about here is mumbo sauce: ‘are you for or against,’ ‘what exactly is it and what do you put it on,’ etc. the one i get dragged into is ‘georgetown cupcake vs baked and wired.’ my dad’s staunchly pro-baked and wired and anti-georgetown cupcake, i love ‘em both, but every time we’re in georgetown we bicker.

never fall short of things to do. like i said, dc is ALWAYS bustling on any given day. sure, a lot of it’s expensive and very often alcohol-focused ( like nyc, we do a lot of wine and beer tastings, cocktail parties and galas ) or otherwise geared towards adults, but if you hop on the metro or a bus, you’re almost guaranteed to find something. see the ‘places of note’ bullet here for some ideas.

have gone to a museum at least once. the area surrounding the national mall and capitol building also has our museums, which are owned by the smithsonian institution. they’re the first place i reach for when i want something to do, and i’ve been going to them so frequently and for so long that james smithson is practically my third parent lol. they are free, which is what makes them so hugely popular, and the Big Three are the national museum of natural history, the national air and space museum, and the national gallery of art. everyone who comes to dc goes to at least one, even if they never go again, and if your character lives here, they’ll probably go to several. ( they also make great date spots, fyi. )

have Opinions about the national cherry blossom festival. dc has lots of cherry blossom trees along the tidal basin and potomac river, given to us as a token of friendship by japan in march of 1912. to celebrate, the national cherry blossom festival is held every spring from late march to early april when the trees are in peak bloom. it isn’t so much a Hard and Fast Festival but more of a fourteen-day period with various cherry blossom- and japanese-themed events, like kite-flying, marathons and sake-tasting with a Great Big Street Fair at the end. people flock to dc every spring just for the cherry blossoms, and most locals either love it, take five billion photos and celebrate with thematic cupcakes and cocktails, or Loudly hate it and call it an overhyped tourist trap ( while still sneaking their annual cherry blossom pic for facebook On The Sly. ) your character should probably be one or the other, i don’t know a lot of neutrals.

probably not call it ‘washington dc.’ if your character does call it that, it should be a defining trait and / or signify that they’re new or visiting. no one here calls it that, we either call it just ‘dc’ or ‘the district.’ it’s not Sacrilege, like calling boston ‘beantown’ ( yuck ) or san francisco ‘frisco,’ more like calling nyc ‘the big apple’-- we just think you sound like a dweeb.

complain a LOT. however much your character is complaining, it’s not enough. they need to complain more. dc locals are ALWAYS complaining about something, in a way similar to a cranky new yorker. i’ve never known a dc local, especially an office worker, who wasn’t complaining every five seconds about one thing or another, and this is largely attributed to its wealthy, ambitious and politically-driven population-- most of us here are Important Individuals, or think we are ; so unfortunately lots of people look down upon those who are not also doing Important People Things.......and end up acting like entitled brats as a result. the metro, like i said, is the biggest one, but other topics of District Annoyance include--

the president’s motorcade. not super common, but takes forever and holds up traffic.

the beltway. the interstate 495, typically just called the beltway, is a highway that makes a loop around dc, as well as the surrounding areas of maryland and virginia. almost always road construction, an accident or traffic no matter what time of day it is and it’s just Generally Terrible. if your character is driving, they’ll probably complain about the beltway.

interns. dc has TONS of interns, especially in the spring and summer. most of them are between the ages of twenty-two to twenty-five, and they come here to work in government buildings or for specific senators and representatives. the most popular place to intern is capitol hill, so ‘interning on the hill’ is something your character will hear or say a lot. most locals don’t like them because they’re super arrogant about what they’re doing and can’t go five seconds without bringing it up.

DC’S STREET SYSTEM AND THE QUADRANTS.

the city of dc is shaped like a broken diamond, and split into four sections, called quadrants: northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest, with the capitol building marking the middle.

maryland borders the north half of the quadrant, generally, and virginia the south.

dc streets run three ways: east-west, north-south, and diagonally, and the streets are named with numbers, letters ( excluding j, x, and z, ) states or a combination.

lettered streets go east-west, numbered streets go north-south, and diagonal streets have state names.

the national mall runs west and east, respectively, away from the capitol so all the east-west letter streets run next to or parallel to them.

starting with the capitol, the first east-west streets north and south of the capitol are called a st, the second east-west streets north and south of the capitol are called b st, the third is c st, etc.

because there are two of the same number or letter street, you should include the quadrant if you’re mailing something or giving an address. like ‘555 k street nw, washington dc 42069.’

if that sounds confusing, it is. here’s a diagram that might help.

now that i’m done with specific traits, here are some Places of Note in dc you can set your threads in and your character can frequent!!

the smithsonian museums. i can’t make this list without putting my Beloved smithsonian museums first, sorry! they’re all wicked sick, but i’m particularly fond of the natural history museum ( which recently got new ocean and fossil halls i’ve been obsessed with, ) all of the art galleries ( we have five ) and the brand new african-american museum!

politics and prose and kramerbooks. politics and prose is a dc-based bookstore with its Main Store in chevy chase, but has locations in a couple other parts of dc. it also has smaller satellite stores that are part of busboys and poets, a combination restaurant and spoken-word venue. kramerbooks is a single independent bookstore in dupont circle. it’s open super late and has a cafe, called afterwords, on top!!

georgetown cupcake. like i said, it’s a cupcake bakery headquartered in georgetown, with a bethesda location as well! known for its Cute Ass Pink Boxes.

the wharf. waterfront entertainment district in southwest, popular with rich people. awesome music venue, the anthem, where i’ve seen florence + the machine and kt tunstall but it’s primarily fancy restaurants, high-end shopping and cocktail bars, including a milk bar.

baked and wired. like i said, georgetown cupcake’s rival. REALLY BIG cupcakes, which it calls ‘cakecups,’ with flavours like ‘uniporn and rainhoes’ and ‘chocolate doom.’

the black cat. goth / punk music venue and entertainment space on u street. i went to my first ever Capital-G Goth Event here shortly after i turned fourteen!! i love this place a lot and i hung out here all the time in high school. lots of great diy or less-mainstream artists play here, like waxahatchee, ex hex and daughter, and i go to their smiths vs the cure and depeche mode-themed parties every year.

the 9.30 club. the black cat’s cleaner and slightly hipper older sister, just a few blocks away on u street. i also love this place dearly and saw most of the concerts i’ve been to here, including haim, kate nash, new politics, the vaccines and sleigh bells. this is where most big indie and alternative bands play when they come to dc. there’s a coffee bar on the topmost area!!

the satellite room. 1960s-themed diner right behind the 9.30 club. open really late, awesome food especially vegan milkshakes and really cool arcade games in the back!! been here after many a concert In My Day.

nellie’s sports bar. gay sports bar across the street from the 9.30 club. great food and awesome drag brunch!! can be really crowded on weekend evenings though, so proceed with caution.

pitchers / a league of her own. gay bar and lesbian bar in the basement of said gay bar respectively in adams morgan. i’ve not been yet, but i’ve heard it’s fantastic!

strathmore. art and music venue in bethesda / kensington. has a mansion, for small concerts and a tea room, and a huge beautiful concert hall that seats over a thousand people for symphonic and other bigger concerts.

eastern market. craft fair in capitol hill that sells handmade goods, artisan food and fresh produce from may to october, roughly. great Wares, but hot and miserable unless you go early.

fantom comics. adorable comic book store in dupont circle. i’ve also been coming here for ages!! it has mainstream comics and indie ones, and it hosts events as well!

bits and bobs / miscellaneous info--

montgomery county in maryland, where i live, has a five-cent charge for plastic bags in grocery stores. it’s really annoying and your character will probably lie to the self-checkout machines when they buy stuff or complain about it to cashiers.

the grocery stores here are giant ( litcherally just stop and shop with a different name, ) safeway, and wegmans. we also have smaller region-specific ones like mom’s organic market, magruders and yes!

ocean city in maryland, virginia beach in, Well, Virginia, and rehoboth, dewey, lewes and bethany beaches, which are all in delaware, are where most locals go for summer vacations.

almost everyone who says they live in dc, doesn’t actually live in dc. they usually live in a surrounding area, like bethesda or silver spring, and say ‘dc’ for brevity’s sake.

you can’t buy alcohol at a grocery store in maryland, but you can in dc and virginia.

sometimes metro stops will Randomly shut down for maintenance, which means that sometimes you have to get off at that stop and wait for a ‘shuttle’ ( aka a free bus ) to take you to the next one. it’s the worst thing ever.

most of the houses in dc proper are row houses, which more closely resemble nyc’s brownstones than row houses elsewhere. maryland and virginia tend to have more Real Live Houses, townhouses and apartments.

marylanders LOVE their state flag for some reason, and because so many of them live and work in dc, you’re bound to see it there too. the maryland flag is absolutely FUCK-UGLY and they plaster it on EVERYTHING. bumper stickers, keychains, phone cases, you name it, even board shorts and tank tops.

those cameras on traffic lights that take pix of you when you speed? everywhere. you WILL end up with a ticket from one eventually.

we have three international airports, reagan international, dulles international and bwi. dulles and reagan are metro accessible, but bwi is in baltimore, so it’s not.
