My Thoughts On... #47 - Fan art ✏️🖋️🖌️🎨

A whole lot of you are familiar with fan art. Drawings of one's favorite celebrities, TV show characters, movie characters, YouTubers, mascots, etc. Anyway, I'd like to share my thoughts on fan art. For as long as I've been on Tumblr, I would post a fan art drawing every Friday (Fan Art Friday). Back in my early years of Tumblr, I would post a fan art drawing of anything to do with social media, mainly YouTube. Then around mid-2018, I started drawing my favorite YouTubers as characters from shows on Cartoon Network. But then around late 2020, close to November, I realized that it felt pointless of me to draw my favorite YouTubers as characters from a television channel that I didn't exactly grow up with. So I decided to start drawing YouTubers, most of which I watched all the time, as characters from shows on Nickelodeon, which is a channel that I did grow up with. Now, for those of you who have seen my fan art of YouTubers as Nickelodeon characters, you might've noticed that a huge majority of every YouTuber ever known has been drawn as a NickToon or character from a live-action Nickelodeon show. You probably thought to yourself "Wow, this person is a fan of all YouTubers." Or somewhere along those lines. I don't know, I'm no mind-reader. Well, here's the thing. Most of the YouTubers that I drew as Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon characters, I've rarely ever watched their content. Yeah, I never watched much in the way of MrBeast, Markiplier, CinnamonToastKen, CaseOh, Elise Ecklund, Liza Koshy, Lilly Singh, Dave Days, JonTron, Boogie2988, NoFate247, DanTDM, Ninja, Keemstar, iJustine, Jenna Marbles, Logan Paul, Jake Paul, Tyler Oakley, Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, MirandaSings, Black Nerd Comedy, Kendall Rae, Good Mythical Morning, Jelly, ReviewBrah, One Giant Onion, Nikocado Avocado, Guava Juice, Billiam, JB ONeill, TheOdd1sOut, Chris Stuckmann, Bobby Parrish, Mama Doctor Jones, Trey Kennedy, Jiemba Sands, Daniel Thrasher, Katie Wootton, Brave Wilderness, WavyWebSurf, AmazzonKane, David Dobrik, Peet Montzingo, PhantomStrider, Diaper Dynamo, iShowSpeed, or Jessii Vee. Which leaves me to wonder, can you do a fan art drawing of a famous person, TV character, movie character, YouTuber, mascot, etc. even if you aren't an all-time fan of them? It feels like it defeats the purpose of it being considered fan art. Gives it some irony. Well, what do you think? Should I build up an interest in a YouTuber's content before making fan art of them, or does it not matter? Anyway, those are my thoughts on fan art. At least, my fan art.
