Jan 4 - My Thing for Today was deciding today was not a day for doing things. Lazed around in bed reading, stayed in PJs for the day, “making supper” consisted of hauling a tub of chili out of the freezer to nuke and making a small pot of rice to have it with. Dishes can wait until tomorrow. Napped for a while this evening. Probably going back to bed within the next couple of hours at most.

Some days you just have to say “fuck it”, turn over, and stay warmly cocooned.

I talked to my dad for the first time in over two years today. We chatted for a good twenty minutes, talking about his new girlfriend, his truck that he's been fixing up, that he went to visit a good friend of his for New Years to support them after they had an amputation, how he got out of jail a few months ago and has been doing good and his life has been peaceful since then. It was nice to talk to him and hear about how he's been happy and healthy.

I told him about how I'm living in Connecticut now, talked about work & then casually mentioned my partner. Its the first time I ever talked to him about the fact that I'm queer, and I told him about her and her family and how good to me they are. He was actually supportive & said he wanted to get to meet her and her family sometime.

It really meant a lot to me. My dad is a former Christian preacher & said a lot of homophobic stuff to me when I was growing up. Ever since I was a young girl I've been emotionally distancing myself from him out of fear of being rejected. Now, it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my heart. I really hope this is the start of a better relationship with him.
