what I learned from the Italian gp 2024:
- 33 and 44 fans unite against the common enemy (mclaren’s illegally fast car)
- my dislike of carlos sainz has almost completely evaporated in favor of eternally hating on lando norris
- charles wdc is written in the stars it’s coming it’s gonna happen
- max is going to basically light milton keyes and the red bull garage on fire because that’s an atrocious car
- charles and max are basically the only two people who can rely on each other to help them succeed
- i hate james vowles
- vcarb stays in misery
- kevin magnussen has decided to take a week off and generously give his car to the new haas driver, Ollie, for a test drive in baku

the cafe norpinto is sooo cute. plus Franco seems like the type to make a “what your order says about you”, then it’s actually just whatever lando orders (I’ve seen so many fics about his fav being cappuccinos or hot chocolate, wondering what your take would be) and then something along the lines of “hot” or “sexy” or “pretty” or something
but also would love to peep your decidedly not pg-13 rated thoughts howeverrrr I do also understand how volatile Tumblr can be
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOL ok norpinto cafe au
franco doing a buzzfeed quiz ("what is this website, it is so ugly!") to try and figure out what coffee lando corresponds to.
lando actually hates the taste of coffee in my mind, so he's always putting weird syrups in there and franco is like. "this is so... eh, how do you say again, alex? unhinged. but the customer is always right i GUESS... dios mio, british people are so strange".
franco 100% watches lando's streams when the cafe is slow, and alex, his coworker, gently makes fun of him
lando's order is NEVER the same and then it becomes this recurring game of franco trying to guess what BIZZARE flavour combo lando will do that day ("strawberry matcha and coffee? you are crazy but you are free")
franco and alex's coffee machine definitely have looooads of fun stickers on it. lando might even make stickers to give to them.
"hi, hello, hola welcome to williams coffee, where our machine is a bit slow but we are not!!"
there is a community board where other drivers cameo and leave post it notes. yuki is in there somehow. he is their favourite customer even tho he's always angry. oscar comes in and goes and barely says a word to them but always leaves a really big tip. leo leclerc has a polaroid in the cafe as "employee of the month".
james vowles is the landlord and is a class enemy
my non pg13 thoughts are that lando thinks he can top franco, but is in fact incorrect, and franco gives him the ride of his life and lando is like... wow i have been missing out. the even funnier version of this is that they're chaotic switches and bonk their heads at some point. like, messy, but cute. actually there is not reason this could not happen in this AU too but use ur imagination...

Alright I don’t think anyone wants to read all these answers from me but I’ve never been one to shy from divulging internet data so let’s go.
Thank you for the tag @wigglesforonce
Who is your favourite driver?
Gewis Hamussel. I love Lewis and George equally and I’ve stood by this for 3 years and I won’t stop now. If I’m forced to pick one for a form I’ll pick Lewis because I loved him first and longer, but otherwise I refuse to choose.
Do you have other favourite drivers?
I will die for Mercedes Reserve/Junior Frederik Vesti. He’s just such a great little dude, cheerful, calm, confident, I LIKE this small (tall) man. Doesn’t hurt he’s a fantastic driver.
Doriane Pin is also a new favourite. Go go pocket rocket!
I also have a confessed love for Jack Doohan, he’s very gender. I suffer a fondness for Yuki, Zhou and sometimes Esteban and Oscar. I also am quite fond of the McLaren and Penske FE drivers (a deep hate for mclaren makes this very conflicting. I am aware.)
Who is your least favourite driver?
Oooof, now it’s easier to list drivers I like than drivers I hate cause it’s a long list, but the crown really has to go to Max Verstappen, with a supporting role for Fernando Alonso. Most drivers I don’t like fall into one of two characters - shitty on track, and shitty off track. For example, I don’t really have a good reason to beef with Roman Stanek as far as I know, but he fucked my f2 drivers enough on track he is now my mortal enemy. On the other side, Lando Norris is a perfectly serviceable driver. But he’s also a cunt. So fuck him. Most driver fall into both on some level, or confirmation bias reinforces it, but Max and Fernando embody both and I could probably give a TED talk about why they damage the sport for the future. Also they’re *deeply* racist. So fuck them.
Do you root for drivers of do you root for teams as well?
Drivers. I’ll root for the team in the case that constructors points will mean good things for my drivers, but I hate the idea of being a corporate fan. Businesses aren’t your friends. I’ll often use merc as a catch all, because both its drivers are my favourites, so it’s easier to speak about the team as a whole. But if both boys left and they dropped Fred and Dori, I’d drop merc like a hot rock.
If you like teams, who do you root for?
I WILL admit a fondness for certain Mercedes engineers like Bono, Shov, James, etc. The love and passion shown in the debriefs and BTS videos- but I don’t really count that as supporting the team so much as the players? It’s complicated, I just think Toto Wolff and Merc upper management fucking suck. Call that what you will. I like James Vowles and the roll he’s been taking at Williams is impressive, but I can’t really say I support Williams when I’m neutral on the drivers. I’ll generally warn against supporting bosses because it’ll always bite you… but I’m a hypocrite and James come back to Merc pls.
How long have you been into F1?
This will be my fifth season watching now. My first race was Austria 2020
What got you into F1?
My dad has been a life long f1 fan, from the 70’s to now, so I grew up with it always being around, but it wasn’t until I was back home from uni during the pandemic that I sat down to watch with him, because he was finally willing to explain it to me. I also came across f1 memes on Reddit and it got me hooked. I didn’t join F1blr until 22 though, when I discovered rpf content organically.
I’ve been a hamilton fan from day one, he’s a sort of home town hero, and I remember being in the room and my dad’s cheering when he won the first championship. Runs in the family
Do you enjoy fanfic/RPF?
Be fuckin wild if I didn’t, considering I write it lmao.
How do you view new fans?
I say this as the strongest compliment I can— I have no fuckin idea how you guys survive being here given the shit show of the last couple years- but I’m always excited to welcome new people to the Gewis side of things.
I also end up frequently as the guy going “how can you support x given their shitty history ” only to learn someone is like a couple months in and understandably has no idea about that yet, leading to an accidental crash course on the current grids fuck ups. I’m very sorry to those people, it will happen again.
Are your friends and family into f1 as well?
Here and there, my dad is probably the most passionate of them and its my favourite when we can watch together but my mom will ask what’s going on, and my larger family are fans but in the very… het sense of it. We would struggle to watch together. As for friends, my poor long suffering partner let me drag her into it (go follow @thatsmemate ), and most of my friends are from f1blr, so of course they are.
Some of my old ex stevetony friends I still keep touch with don’t watch, but ask me every now and then what’s been going on in the f1 world, because they are deeply sweet.
Are you open to talking to other fans/making friends?
Always. Always, always, always. I am generally a nervous guy in new places and conversations, but once settled I’ll chat your ear off.
I do often need other people to reach out to me first, I can’t often tell when someone wants to speak, so I wait for them to speak first, and when chatting I get forgetful and can struggle to remember to reply when busy. Some people find that a turn off, and that’s fair enough.
What I’m saying is if I don’t reach out first or reply slow. Don’t assume I hate you, I just struggle to juggle all my tasks these days. Disability is a bitch.
Wow, over sharing, I said you’d get it
—
Not tagging anyone bc I haven’t been paying attention so I don’t know who’s been tagged and who hasn’t, and I don’t want to embarrass myself. If you want to join in, I’m your tag.

Formula 1: Mercedes debacle at the Austrian GP: Worse than the war of the stars
Check out http://sportworld.news/2018/07/01/formula-1-mercedes-debacle-at-the-austrian-gp-worse-than-the-war-of-the-stars/
Formula 1: Mercedes debacle at the Austrian GP: Worse than the war of the stars
While Max Verstappen sensationally won the Austrian Grand Prix, Mercedes experienced a debacle: First the Bolide of Valtteri Bottas broke down, then the strategy department failed and in the end Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton also suffered a severe defeat. For those responsible, an historic day to forget.
When Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton drove each other into the car at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, the much-cited “Star Wars” reached its climax. Instead of a double victory, there was a double loss. Instead of cheering and champagne, frustration and disappointment. “Absolutely unacceptable”, Mercedes CEO Niki Lauda shouted after the crash and Toto Wolff added no less angrily: “The manoeuvre was hara-kiri.”
The head of motorsport had his hands full with the arch-enemies Rosberg and Hamilton. Again and again there were squabbles, mutual attacks and in the worst case collisions, whose consequences Wolff had to act over and over again.
Compared to what happened this Sunday in the otherwise so tranquil Styria, however, these were little odds and ends. “It couldn’t be crueller. For me, the most painful day of my Mercedes time, much harder than Barcelona,” Wolff summed up his emotional world to RTL, shaken as if by an earthquake. Starting from the speed, one could have easily reached “first and second place”, but then “everything that could go wrong”.
In fact, Hamilton and his current team-mate Valtteri Bottas were already several seconds behind the competition after the first rounds. Red Bull? Ferrari? They probably didn’t even feel the air turbulence caused by a modern Formula 1 car in advance. The silver duo was too far away.
“You are comfortably first and second”, Wolff described the scenes, “then suddenly your one car rolls out”. It was Bottas whose hydraulics gave up the spirit – and who thus indirectly gave the competition victory.
While Ferrari and Red Bull reacted immediately to the next Virtual Safety Car phase and ordered their four drivers to change tyres, Hamilton surprisingly stayed out.
A mistake, as it turned out. When the reigning world champion had finally headed for his own pits, he had been returned to fourth place. “A complete blackout of Mercedes. I have no idea why they didn’t react,” criticised RTL expert Timo Glock about the silver hibernation in the middle of the Austrian summer.
The question arises why Mercedes did not react as quickly as Red Bull and Ferrari. For one thing, Glock assumed, they were distracted by Botta’s failure. On the other hand, they simply speculated, as Wolff later confirmed: “We thought the (VSC) phase would last longer and we could still react in the following round.
Nevertheless, the shock in the Mercedes warehouse may still have moved within a manageable range at this time. After all, Hamilton was one of the best riders in the field in his ranks, who had also strapped on ten laps of fresher tyres. But there was no attack. Instead, World Championship opponent Sebastian Vettel rushed in from behind and overtook the Silver Arrow pilot in a close wheel-to-wheel duel.
“We threw away the victory,” Hamilton grumbled with his usual calm voice towards the team. “I threw away the victory”, strategy boss James Vowles apologized and tried to motivate his protégé: “You still have a chance of making up for places. We believe in you!”
But there was no sign of making up places in the rounds after that. On the contrary: what followed was the culmination of the fiasco. “This is certainly the worst weekend I’ve remembered in a long time. Today everyone in the team feels the pain”, says a broken Hamilton after the race: “A day to forget”.
Instead of attacking and regaining Vettel’s position – let alone winning – Hamilton suddenly followed suit. His tires broke, a second stop was inevitable.
When eight laps before the end the fuel pressure eased, Hamilton had to give up and the world championship lead was lost to Vettel again, the historic drama was perfect.
Historically, because it was Hamilton’s first retirement after 33 races in a row with the finish. Historically, because Mercedes’ last technical double retirement was from the 1955 Italian GP (even though four drivers took the wheel for the silver arrows and Juan Manuel Fangio Piero Taruffi celebrated a double victory). And because the last general double-out wasn’t quite as long ago, but the said Spanish Grand Prix two years ago wasn’t exactly yesterday either. By the way, this race was won, as luck would have it, by a certain Max Verstappen.
The positive thing about this day for the Stuttgart team is that the next race is already scheduled for next week. And in Britain, Hamilton has always been strong lately. “Now we have a few days to rearrange ourselves and resolve these difficulties before Silverstone,” says Chief Engineer Andrew Shovlin, looking ahead: “There we want to retrieve the performance that we know we are capable of.

What’re your thoughts on America’s sweethearts Logan Sargeant and Chloe Chambers?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I promise you those on Logan’s are eagles, I was using a double line brush sometimes you get what you get
Lets start with the easy one- Chloe! I know so little about her but she seems like a good egg, synth loves her and I am super fond! I cheered when she won, I look forward to seeing her alongside Este and Ollie next year because I think they’ll make a thoroughly chaotic group of children. Yes este included. She seems great! Go kiddo!
Logan… Logan is complicated. I really don’t hate the guy, but I can’t make myself love him. He suffers from being slap bang in the middle of slightly misplaced frustration at a system that’s not on him, and frustration with his fans. It’s not his fault, I feel deeply sorry for the lot he’s been stuck with and the critique levelled at him very fast, but I also think a lot of people baby him when the reality of F1 is just gutting and frustrating sometimes. My opinions are very driver meta heavy, so I’ll stick them under a read more bc not everyone wants to read that
I feel for Sargent, I feel for his fans. Not everyone swims, I was a fan of Nicky who he replaced, and I adored the guy but he just wasn’t fit for F1, and part of that is drive and part of it is just confidence. Logan had a harder entry, but greater confidence, but that just doesn’t always translate to a drive. And that. Sucks. You can hate it and grieve it and it will hurt. But I also don’t think James Vowles is the enemy for telling him he has to preform. I don’t think he was evil for switching the cars. He has 1000+ people at grove to protect and they don’t have the safety or money Logan does. James didn’t hire him but he gave him the best shot he could with incredible gentle hands for that first year. But that just cant last forever. You sometimes have to choose between your driver being babied because they are young, which means they aren’t trusted, or trusted, but that means responsibilities and pressure.
While it’s not what he wants and it sucks, Logan does have options, has a safety net in Indy car who seems desperate for him to return home, or I was even saying to friends he would be a great shout for formula E! He has options, and whatever happens he has achieved a dream many don’t, in getting in an f1 car at all. He should be damn proud of that.
Which is also why I feel a little bitter sometimes- I see a lot of people calling out that Logan was never give a shot- he was absolutely pulled too fast, but he WAS given an astronomical opportunity. You can think what Williams did wasn’t fair but what’s even crueller is the people who don’t get what Logan did at all. I’m a Fred fan, so I wanted him in Logan’s seat if it was vacated, and as it becomes clear that’s not very likely to happen, all I get to see is the fact Logan got a shot my guy might not. People can call Ameriphobia, but being American got him his seat, having sponsors and family connections following him got him his seat. He’s no nepo baby but he wasn’t helpless…Some people have none of that, no matter how they preform, how hard they try. Is any of this Logan’s fault?
No, Logan’s not Merc (or Toto), he has no say, he’s fighting for his own life. but I also can’t really… detach him from that. If he does stay, good, if he goes, I think he still has so many opportunities to shine. I see in Logan not the man himself, but the shadow of those before, and those who could have been.
I also caution y’all this is a personal opinion most definitely not shared by wider fandom or teams- but it’s where my head is at. If you don’t agree— trust me, I’m already suffering. I have so much sympathy for the guy which is WHY I feel so much. I have far less thoughts about dudes I hate
Driver opinion Bingo
