New pen for Christmas. The Ferris Wheel Press Brush pen, Echoes of Eaton. Really nice black satin finish. And I can’t wait for the brass to patina and make it look all old and vintage. 🖤🖤🖤

Picked up a Pilot Parallel today because the art shop I went to on a whim had them and this thing's pretty nifty. I am NOT familiar with calligraphy at all but
It's a fun pen.

I bound a book!
Hello, I just bound this, which is I guess basically my second proper bookbinding project that I have fully finished. Also my first time binding a fic that I wrote myself, so the entire process from writing through typesetting and binding was my project.
Book information:
Title fonts - Frosty, Body font - IM Fell English, bound in octavo format with a square back bradel binding. Cover graphic printed onto book cloth with an inkjet printer. Edge painting underlayer with J. Herbin Émeraude de Chivor and sprinkled with Golden high flow acrylic in Iridescent Gold Deep (Fine), and Windsor & Newton ink in silver. Endpapers are paste paper I got at Codex this year. Book cloth is something from Book Craft Supply, though I am not sure what because I got it in a mix of samples in a kit. Anyway, I am really happy with how it turned out!
The fic: Mountain's Depths which I wrote for the Rare Kinks Buffet Prompt Fest 2024.

You've mentioned using fountain pens in passing before. Do you have any pens, ink, and paper you prefer? Tried and true supplies? Others saved for special times?
Paper: AFFORDABLE! I would say that answer is in jest, but my budget is giving me side eye. While I do have special paper for special things that may or may not intersect with the use of fountain pens, it is for a greatly limited reason. Most of the time, I'm writing on whatever paper/notepad is in reach and it is for this reason that most of my nibs are F or EF to limit feathering. Because cheap paper will suck ink out of a pen faster than you can refill it if you use a M nib or larger.
Pens: Pilot Kakuno, my beloved. I have found them to be accessible to my budget and accessible to my needs. I have a few set aside (with corresponding ink) for use in magical endeavors. If they get lost or I drop it nib down, it's not a reduction in my net worth.
Ink: Diamine, my beloved. J Herbin, my lover. For black, there's nothing like J Herbin Onyx for me.
If I could only have one: Pilot Kakuno EF + J Herbin Onyx, please and thank you.
Right now my fountain pens and inks have been put in storage because I just don't have the room to go all in with them again. Once I finish rearranging some stuff and clearing out some debris from my life (emotional and physical), I'll be able to sit down with my pens again and stain my fingers unique combinations of colors.
I have a few Edison pens, and some Stipulos, but the day I dropped a LE Stipulo one foot onto a tile floor and shattered the end knob off of it was the day that I realized I'm not paid enough to have a "true" fountain pen habit. Give me the Kakunos and Metropolitans, and I'll be okay.

I said that I would do a little trip report if I ever bought some of those cheap Chinese fountain pens on AliExpress, well I bought two Jin Hao pens for around $20 total and wow, they're really nice. The nib on the silver one writes more smoothly than the nib on my Parker IM which cost me $100 back in 2011. I spent $8 on this pen. Goddamn. They're just both really nice pens with very smooth nibs and they came with convertors with very large reservoirs. The small converter was my only real complaint with the Jin Hao pen I already owned (the nib on that one isn't as smooth either). Also love how the Green one's clip is in the shape of a guitar, I didn't even notice that when I ordered it.
I should buy a few more bottles of ink. I really like J. Herbin inks, I use them exclusively. I should get a few more colours, they've got a nice pale purple called "Poussière de Lune", and I'm running low on the "Bleu Nuit" blue and "Lie De Thé" brown, I've got enough to last me a while though.
But yes, Chinese fountain pens from AliExpress, they're very good.

hi! I was wondering what you used for your silver doodles? (Paper, markers, etc?) love your art :)
AHH!! i used a LOT of different pens on that page, let me give you the rundown (i assume you mean this one)
Tumblr media
first were all of my currently inked fountain pens - i have a few that i havent filled for a while just b/c theyre a pain
Tumblr media
left to right: moonman m2 inked with sailor manyo sakura, kaweco sport in limited edition iridescent pearl inked with j herbin diabolo menthe, moonman n6 inked with j herbin corail des tropiques, nahvalur original in peter draws artist edition silver inked with sailor manyo sakura, twsbi eco inked with pilot iroshizuku hana-ikada, twsbi diamond 580 in special edition iris inked with pilot iroshizuku hana-ikada, and a lamy safari in special edition light rose inked with diamine soft mint! all nibs are fine except for the twsbi eco, it has a bold nib
i also used the tombow fudenosuke brush pen, a red pilot g2, and a couple other random black pens i had laying around (cant remember the specific ones)
for the markers, i use copics because i am unfortunately that bitch, SOWWY. i recommend buying cheaper alcohol markers like ohuhu or touchfive/touchnew instead. the generic michaels brand ones are prone to dye crystalization so i cant recommend them
the paper is just shitty sketchbook paper, i think its literally strathmore Sketch(tm) paper, the one with the yellow cover. i have to put a piece of paper between the pages to make sure markers dont bleed thru, but it surprisingly handles fountain pens really well. also im just guessing because my friend gave the sketchbook to me as a graduation gift and she ripped the cover off to hide how much (or more accurately, little) she paid for it :P im still friends with her shes awesome
