What happened to Geisha after WW2? Did many not return? Did they have issues regaining business? And same for Juuyo! (Not like they had nice lives, just wondering since the Karyukai shut down one year after the war.) Were the Juuyo recaptured? If you have a more lengthy explanation on everything I'd love to read! <3
After World War II many geisha did not return to the profession as many kagai outside of Kyoto were outright destroyed by bombings and the geimaiko who stayed, along with the professionals who supplied them (clothiers, hair stylists, artisans for various accessories, etc.), were conscripted for factory work, many of which were also destroyed or separated them from their families. Those who did return were the ones who owned businesses that were still intact, or who lost everything and had no where else to turn but back to the karyukai. Business actually picked up surprisingly quick as government contracts were quite lucrative and allowed those with businesses and connections to the karyukai to visit and revitalize it once again. I can't speak for what happened to the jūyo as I just don't know about them ^^
